In this engaging conversation, Nurse Jessica Sites and Nurse Erica discuss a variety of topics surrounding Hurricane Milton and challenges nurses face during crisis situations. They dive into hurricane preparedness and the difficult decisions surrounding evacuation. They also touch on the impact of natural disasters on healthcare workers and highlight community relief efforts aimed at supporting nurses in need. Nurses struggle to access resources like gas during a crisis and community support is crucial. The conversation highlights the lack of emergency preparedness in long-term care facilities and increasing reliance on non-clinical staff. Thank you to our Enema Award Sponsor, Happy Bum Co. It's real ok? I've seen it. Somewhere out there among the expanse of these icy depths is a man; a man with conviction; a man with dedication; a man that believes. If there was ever a drink with a reputation, this is definitely it. Uncle Brad and Jules get into making a proper Long Island and Jules puts a twist on it with Jamacian Rum, Mint, and Bourbon... I mean, why not? Uncle B gives us the history behind the drink, and there's a little drama to share. Then Brad takes on a great question from Nathan Batley (all the way from Winchester, UK). He's been reading up on the old cocktail books like The Savoy Cocktail Book and Cafe Royal Cocktail book and asks, “could you outline the different measurements used like glass, wine glass, liqueur glass, etc (also talk about the ratios and what that means)?” We got you covered Nathan... mostly. Long Island Ice Tea Recipie (that actually tastes good) Chill your Collins glass In your shaker add: ½ oz Vodka ½ oz London dry gin ½ oz Tequila blanco ½ oz White Rum ½ oz Cointreau ½ oz Simple syrup ¾ oz Lemon juice (fresh squeeze) 3 – 4 dash Angostura bitters Shake for 15 – 20 seconds Double strain, over ice, into your Collins glass Add Coca Cola to top it off Give it a stir with your bar spoon Garnish with lemon wheel (on the rim or slide down the inside of your glass) Long Islands baby brother, Boozy Palmer In your shaker add: 3/4 oz Lemon Juice 3/4 oz Mint Syrup ¾ oz Jamaican rum 1 oz Bourbon ½ oz orange curacao shake Top with 2-3 oz chilled black tea & 2 oz cola Strain into collins glass Garnish with lemon slice TIP: How to interpret measurements in old cocktail books The Art of Drinking IG: @theartofdrinkingpodcast Jules IG: @join_jules TikTok: @join_jules Website: joinjules.com Brad IG: @favorite_uncle_brad This is a Redd Rock Music Podcast IG: @reddrockmusic www.reddrockmusic.com Learn more about your ad choices. I spoke with activist and veteran Greg Stoker about the recent campus protests in solidarity with Palestine, police repression, and imperialism. We explore the concept of the “imperialist boomerang” and how it relates to the brutal crackdowns we're seeing on college campuses.“APD, KKK, IOF, they're all the same!” and “There's no riot here. Why are you in riot gear?” were among the chants heard at the UT Austin Gaza Solidarity encampment. Greg witnessed droves of state troopers in riot gear cracking down on Palestine supporters and arresting over 100. In the face of state repression, UT protestors kettled the cops and even succeeded in pushing the police off campus. He tells me these officers were “tactically outmaneuvered by arts majors,” adding that “as a roided-out cop, that's kind of embarassing.”Greg Stoker served in the US Army special Operations Command during the war in Afghanistan. More recently, he launched Colonial Outcasts, an “anti-imperialist, anti-war, and anti-establishment” podcast that I highly recommend.Follow Greg on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Check out Colonial Outcasts, and watch on YouTube Colonial Outcast Cocktail Crafted by bartender Jesse Torres-45 ml Gin -15 ml Select Aperitivo, other red aperitivo, or Campari-8 ml Simple Syrup-15 ml Lemon Juice -22 ml Grapefruit Juice -Small pinch of salt -Miineral water Combine all ingredients except mineral water in a mixing tin and shake with cubed ice until properly diluted and chilled. In Episode 46, Mark Graban and Jamie Flinchbaugh spend a lot of time talking about AI, but that still, as always, begins with the whiskey. Episode page We both asked ChatGPT to consider all our ingredients for making a whiskey-based cocktail, and to invent an original recipe. Jamie's is called The Bourbon Harmony, although there was a lot in there to try to reach harmony, and Mark's was called the Spiced Cherry Rye Cocktail. The verdict for both drinks was that they were good, but probably wouldn't be made a second time. We had slightly different tactics in prompting ChatGPT to generate our recipes, which we discussed. We then spent a little time recognizing the passing of Don Petersen, former CEO of Ford in the late 1980s. Peterson was very different from an automotive CEO at the time, disrupting many practices whose time had come. Most notably, he brought in Dr. Deming to help influence the transformation. The discussion then turned into a deeper dive into how a lean thinker might look at artificial intelligence, machine learning, and more. This explored governance of AI, having good standard work and workflow design around AI usage, lessons of effective delegation while treating AI like an employee, when to use it, and even a few tips and tricks along the way. We saved the discussion of whether AI will be the end of humanity for when we might have a stronger cocktail. Have AI design your new cocktail, make it yourself since AI can't do that, and sit down for this interesting discussion. Cheers, or in binary... 01100011 01101000 01100101 01100101 01110010 01110011 Links and Info From the Show: Jamie's Bourbon Harmony recipe: 2 oz Bourbon (used Elijah Craig Small Batch), 0.5 oz Lillet Blanc, 0.5 oz Aperol, 0.25 oz Drambuie, 2 dashes Orange Bitters, 1 dash Angostura Bitters, Orange peel (for garnish) Mark's Spiced Cherry Rye Cocktail recipe: 2 oz Rye Whiskey, 0.5 oz Tart Cherry Liqueur, 0.5 oz Italicus, 0.25 oz Green Chartreuse, 0.25 oz Aperol, 0.5 oz Lemon Juice, Garnish: Lemon twist or a few cherries News of former Ford CEO Don Petersen passing away and Mark's blog post adding much context, including Dr. Deming GrantThornton's report on AI risks Jamie's YouTube video linking AI and problem solving Wall Street Journal on whether AI causes job loss Wall Street Journal on how AI changes jobs Podcast feed at LeanWhiskey.com or leanblog.org/leanwhiskey or jflinch.com/leanwhiskey Please review us and follow or subscribe on your favorite podcast platform!

In this episode, Jill discusses the role of lemon juice in passing kidney stones. She addresses common misconceptions about lemon juice and its effectiveness in kidney stone prevention. Jill emphasizes the importance of understanding individual citrate levels and the need for a 24-hour urine collection. She also highlights the significance of advocating for oneself and taking action to prevent kidney stones.TakeawaysLemon juice alone will not help pass kidney stones; it is the excess fluids, particularly water, that aid in the passage of stones.Lemons can be useful in kidney stone prevention if citrate levels are low, as citrate acts as a natural stone inhibitor. It is essential to have a 24-hour urine collection to determine if lemons or other interventions are necessary for kidney stone prevention.Taking action and making lifestyle changes are crucial for preventing kidney stones, and having a supportive community can make a significant difference.——This podcast is designed to entertain and inform — not provide medical advice. In this Cocktails & Capitalism conversation, I speak with Egyptian activist, entrepreneur, model, and feminist Merhan Keller. We connected between her recent trips to volunteer with the Egyptian Red Crescent where she has helped provide emergency supplies to displaced Palestinians fleeing Israel's genocidal bombardment.Merhan explains how her work as a model led to her vital involvement in the Egyptian #MeToo movement. We also discuss her personal connection to the Palestinian struggle and the tragic loss of her uncle in Egypt to an Israeli airstrike on a school during the Naksa of '67. Our conversation centers around the constant theme of glorious anger -- the anger we channel into action when faced with injustice. “And that's the beauty of it.
