Check out start.nurp.com/doctors to learn more. --- The Salad Mafia has spoken—and apparently Tim's anti-salad rant struck a nerve. This week, Drs. Tim and May Hindmarsh turn the studio into a highly questionable test kitchen as they taste their way through some of the strangest processed foods currently sitting on grocery store shelves. Dill pickle baked beans? Kansas City barbecue ramen? Dye-free Flamin' Hot Cheetos? Unfortunately, yes. But underneath the chaos is a bigger conversation about what's actually in the food we eat every day. From ultra-processed ingredients and sky-high sodium to artificial dyes, high-fructose corn syrup, and the seed oils hiding in everything from snack foods to cooking sprays, Tim and May take a closer look at how far modern food has drifted from, well…food. They also break down the so-called “Hateful Eight” seed oils, discuss alternatives like extra virgin olive oil, ghee, beef tallow, avocado oil, and butter, and question whether removing a few questionable ingredients really makes processed junk food “healthy.” And because this is BS Free MD, there's also a baseball injury story that will make every man listening instinctively cross his legs. In This Episode The fallout from Tim's now-infamous anti-salad rant A wild taste test featuring dill pickle baked beans, ranch-flavored fries, barbecue ramen, and dye-free Cheetos What ingredient labels reveal about ultra-processed foods Why “healthier” junk food may still just be junk food The surprising amount of sodium, oils, additives, and artificial ingredients hiding in common snacks The “Hateful Eight” seed oils and where they show up in the food supply Olive oil, ghee, beef tallow, avocado oil, butter, and other alternatives discussed by Tim and May How portion sizes can turn occasional treats into everyday staples Why Tim and May argue that the real problem with processed food is the processing itself The grocery-store reality: aisles of packaged foods versus comparatively small sections of whole foods One absolutely brutal baseball injury—and the player who somehow kept playing The Bottom Line Tim and May aren't arguing that one bag of Cheetos is going to ruin your life. Their point is much simpler: foods designed as occasional treats have increasingly become everyday staples. As Tim puts it, the problem isn't necessarily having an unhealthy treat once in a while—it's when “garbage like this” becomes a regular part of the diet. Sometimes the simplest approach is the best one: stop obsessing over which version of processed food is marginally “healthier” and start eating more actual food. Dan and Hutson are back in the Kid Cave—and this time, they're putting their taste buds to the test! After the popularity of their sunflower seed and Big League Chew flavor bracket, the guys decided it was time for the real thing: a massive sunflower seed taste test! With more than 25 different flavors and brands, Dan and Hudson sample everything from Peanut Butter & Jelly and Chili Lime to Backyard Barbecue, Dill Pickle, Maple Brown Sugar, Cheddar Jalapeño, S'mores, Cinnamon Rolls and more. Each flavor gets a rating from 1 to 5, and there are plenty of surprises along the way. Some flavors completely miss the mark, while others turn out to be much better than expected. They also discover that one thing matters a lot when it comes to a great sunflower seed: how long the flavor lasts. Which seeds earn the coveted 5-star rating? Which flavors are total disappointments? And which unexpected flavors might be perfect for the dugout—or even the tree stand? Grab a bag of seeds and join Dan and Hutson for one of the tastiest episodes yet of The Kid Cave Podcast!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's Friday on Brightside and we're kicking things off with a Utah burrito taste test! Send me a Text Message! The good life does not start with activity. It starts with rest. We don't rest from our work, we rest into our work. The order is significant. We've turned the concept of the Sabbath into a day off, a much needed rest from our busyness, but the Sabbath was not meant to be a passive resting; it was always an active turning from work to God. Basically, God has said, "Once a week I'm going to carve out a day for you. I'm going to remove it from the curse; call it holy so that Satan can't mess with it and I'm going to fill it with blessings. Primarily the blessing of me. And I'm good, so good; you won't regret this day. It'll be like the old days, back in the garden, aday to remind you that I actually want to spend time with you."See Sabbath is one day a week to taste-test heaven!
"You can taste the quality." —Katina Mountanos Most of what's labeled "extra virgin olive oil" on grocery shelves isn't giving you the extra virgin olive oil benefits you think it is — and Kosterina founder Katina Mountanos found that out the hard way. In this episode, Justine sits down with Katina to unpack why so much store-bought olive oil tastes flat, what polyphenols actually do in the body, and why the "don't cook with olive oil, it has a low smoke point" advice you've been following is flat-out wrong. Katina traces her obsession with real olive oil back to summers on her family's farm in Koroni, Greece — and the moment, years later, that a $12 bottle from a New York supermarket tasted nothing like it. That gap sent her through an olive oil sommelier certification, a deep dive into polyphenol research, and eventually a full-time business built on transparency: harvest dates, single-origin sourcing, and third-party testing for everything from acidity to microplastics. This episode is for anyone who's stood in the oil aisle wondering which bottle is actually worth it, and for anyone rethinking what "seed oil vs olive oil" really means for their health. • High-antioxidant extra-virgin olive oil can contain 500–1,000+ mg/kg of polyphenols, compared to roughly 150 mg/kg in average grocery-store bottles. • Smoke point is not the right test for whether an oil is safe to cook with — free radical emission under heat is what actually matters, and olive oil emits far fewer than seed oils. • A bottle labeled "Italian" or "Greek" extra-virgin olive oil can still be a blend of residual oils from multiple countries and harvests, bottled together under one label. • Plastic packaging accelerates rancidity and can leach microplastics, so glass or tin with a visible harvest date is a stronger buying signal than the words "extra virgin" alone. • Fresh, high-polyphenol olive oil produces a peppery burn at the back of the throat — the same sensation researchers first mistook for ibuprofen contamination. • Cooking with avocado oil or genuine early-harvest olive oil, instead of canola or other seed oils, is a low-effort swap with a real anti-inflammatory upside. Listen to the full conversation for Katina's grocery-aisle checklist and her at-home smell-and-taste test — then subscribe so you never miss an episode. https://tinyurl.com/Essential-Ingredients-Podcast Meet Katina: Katina Mountanos is the founder and CEO of Kosterina, a premium Greek extra virgin olive oil and Mediterranean foods brand built at the intersection of taste, health, and transparency. Raised between New York and the olive groves of Koroni, Greece, Katina grew up knowing what truly good olive oil should taste like. After becoming a certified olive oil sommelier and uncovering the powerful health benefits of high–polyphenol extra virgin olive oil, she launched Kosterina as a passion project while working in consumer brands at Walmart. Today, Kosterina's early-harvest, cold-pressed, high-antioxidant olive oils, fruit-infused vinegars, and olives are nationally available at Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, and online, and are recognized for both exceptional flavor and rigorous quality testing. Grounded in the Mediterranean diet, Katina's work champions cooking at home, clean ingredients, and replacing inflammatory seed oils with olive oil to support heart, gut, metabolic, and overall health. Send me a Text Message!Over the course of these episodes and even more the course of the years, I have had multiple people ask me, so what should I do on the Sabbath? How is it different from any other day? What's the purpose? At some point the thought came to me, "The Sabbath was meant to be a little taste of heaven. The Sabbath is one day a week meant to give us a little taste of heaven on earth. I'll be honest, the first time those words came out of my mouth, I thought "Oh... that's good. Way to go Dan. I've never read that, never heard anyone say that. Good job." Of course, I wasn't even close to the first with that thought. I found that the Jewish midrash written over 1000 yrs ago, contained the same idea. So what would it look like to bring an element of heaven into your Sabbath? What if that was God's intent all along...a taste test of heaven?

Send us Fan MailZero sugar, low carbs, organic ingredients, and “filtered six times” sounds like a win, but the real question is simple: do these hard seltzers taste good when you crack one after a long, brutal day? We put Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzers to the test and give honest, flavor-first ratings across Cucumber Lime, Grapefruit Melon, Watermelon Strawberry, and Spicy Pineapple. Some hit with a refreshing first sip, others fade into flavored water, and one scent sends the whole room into a full-body nope.Between pours, we talk about the kind of week that drives you to the cooler: punishing heat at work, smoke drifting down from Canada wildfires, and that campfire smell that follows you everywhere. Then we rewind to a bachelor party camping trip with canoeing, island nights, surprise storms, tarp engineering, and the hilarious “we just walked in with nine people” energy that takes over any bar. After the break, we get into “Ricky's Bad Choices,” a confession-style question game that escalates into stories about jail bailouts, messy decisions, and a couple of road-accident moments that turn unexpectedly serious. We wrap with final rankings, what we would actually buy again, and our standing rule for any drinking night. If you like real drink reviews, unfiltered storytelling, and a few hard-earned life lessons, hit subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find the show.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com
