#80: Coach Rick Byrd is the former Belmont University men's basketball head coach. During his time coaching he won over 805 games as a head coach, which ranks 12th all time in NCAA Division 1 basketball. In 2021 he was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and has been the recipient of the prestigious John R Wooden Legends of Coaching Award, as well as many other highly regarded awards. Under his leadership Coach Byrd led Belmont to 8 NCAA tournaments, 17 conference championships, and consistently had victories over teams like North Carolina, UCLA, Cincinnati, Stanford, and more in his final 14 seasons. Just as impressive is Belmont posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher 20 consecutive seasons and every player that completed eligibility earned his degree.On the show Coach Byrd shares about growing up in Knoxville, Tennessee, playing college basketball, getting into coaching, treating people with respect, building a team, leadership, sustaining excellence, and much more.Enjoy the show!

Ernie DiGregorio is a Former NBA Rookie of the Year athlete in 1974 and a Collegiate Hall of Fame basketball player. He's an effective coach that focuses on one-on-one skills coaching to athletes of all ages, a seasoned motivational speaker to various businesses, community organizations, youth groups, and nonprofits, and the author of "star with a BROKEN HEART", "MILEY'S BIG SHOT", and "ALPHONSO SAVES THE PLANET."He was born in the small town of North Providence RI. He developed himself through tireless practice and dedication into a wizard with the basketball and became Ernie D. He defied the odds to become an All-American at Providence College where he met Dave Gavitt and Marvin Barnes and along with their teammates carried the team to the Final Four in 1973. For his efforts Ernie was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. He went on to be drafted as the 3rd overall pick in the NBA draft by the Buffalo Braves and was awarded the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1974. He had a successful NBA career that was cut short by injuries, but he continued in coaching and teaching the game to kids. He is currently an aspiring writer and working on a variety of projects including “Miley’s Big Shot”, an incredible coming of age story for children. He is also working with his alma mater Providence College to release his book “star with a Broken Heart”. A story of hopes and dreams, hardship and triumphs, overcoming racial boundaries, addiction, and perhaps most importantly, friendships that became family….all filtered through the lens of a turbulent American history in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The book is dedicated to Father Robert Morris OP who was a leader at PC and founded the MLK Scholarship Program. The book is slated to be released shortly and Ernie is working on taking this incredible story to the big screen.

The 34th edition of Whe're They At features Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer as a player AND coach, Lenny Wilkens. He was one of the greatest players to come out of the New York City area, graduating Boys High School in Brooklyn. He starred at Providence College, later being inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He was a 9-time NBA All-Star as a player AND 4 times, he coached in the All-Star Game. Coach Wilkens led the Seattle Supersonics to their ONLY NBA championship in 1979. He was part of the coaching staff for the legendary 1992 U.S. Olympic Men's Basketball Team, aka the Dream Team and won another Gold medal leading the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team. He is one of four individuals to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a player AND coach. Last but not least, he is part of the NBA 50th Anniversary team and was recognized as one of Top-10 coaches in NBA history. Mr. Miles has been the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) Owls Men’s Basketball coach for 45 years, and is one of the four winningest coaches in the nation, having reached his one thousandth win on February 1, 2014. Mr. Miles’ accomplishments are impressive, including: * 3x NAIA National Basketball Coach of the Year (2004, 2008, 2012) * Inducted in the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018 * National Association of Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year (2012) * National winner of NAIA’s Champion of Character award for all sports in 2009 * A.T. Slats Gill All-Sports Coach of the Year (2004) * DNA Award at the Oregon Sports Award show (2013) * Guardians of the Game Pillar Award for Advocacy from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (2013) * 3x NAIA National Championships * Received the Coach Wooden “Keys to Life” Award at the Athletes in Action Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast (2015), held each year during the Final Four Mr. Miles is native to Southern Oregon, and is an alumnus of Southern Oregon University. In 2005 he was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award at a dinner held in his honor. Donald is really impressed and says Florida will be a contender all season long 9:55 Jason unveils his unified theory of the 2017-18 season… it boils down to one word: Rebounding! 14:10 Donald talks about Marvin Bagley, and we wonder where he ranks among the all-time greats at Duke, freshmen or otherwise. 18:30 Donald brings up ESPN’s “odds of winning the game” silliness.
