This week, we tell a story that starts differently from most of our episodes. Instead of being a renowned athlete, from an early age, he was a decent high school athlete, then joined the military, as a firefighter, where he did tours in Iraq. He also began fighting. His skills were just right for the burgeoning business of MMA, and he landed a spot on UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter", where his strangeness first came to light. In the years to come, his behavior became more bizarre, with odd attacks, strange & violent attacks, and some of the weirdest antics, ever seen in a courtroom!Have war & fires not be quite dangerous enough for you, be the strangest guy on a reality show, and believe that you don't need medication, despite all the evidence to the contrary with Daniel Barrera!! Eric and Rod revisit the 2009-10 season which MSU entered ranked preseason #2. This was largely because the previous final four team lost only Travis Walton and Goran Suton but was returning senior Raymar Morgan, Big Ten player of the year, Kalin Lucas, Delvon Roe, and sophomore Draymond Green. They had a number of setbacks in the non-conference leading to a 10-3 record but started the Big Ten schedule 9-0. Then the wheels metaphorically came off and they lost 3 in a row but still managed to limp across the finish line to tie for a Big Ten championship with Purdue and Ohio State. A first round flame out in the Big Ten Tournament against a bad Minnesota team in OT left expectations low and a 5 seed heading into the NCAA tourney. Few were high on this team until Kalin Lucas started playing like the player he was the year before in the first round by scoring 25 in defeating 12 seed New Mexico State. Suddenly, MSU was looking like a force to reckon with if only they could find a way past Kansas in the Sweet 16. MSU was cruising to an easy second round win against Maryland when Kalin Lucas tore his ACL in the second half. Last second heroics and maybe a little help from Northern Iowa in defeating Kansas led to MSU making it all the way to the Final Four. It was the Final Four matchup against Butler where Draymond Green was clearly fouled in the act of shooting while down one with only a few seconds left. The no-call was in part responsible for a narrow loss and missed opportunity to take on a pedestrian Duke team for the national championship. What if Kaliin Lucas hadn't torn his ACL? What if the foul is called and Draymond at least splits the pair of free throws? Eric and Rod talk about what they think would have happened. Learn more about your ad choices. This week, we explore the life of an unlikely World Series hero, who took all that good will, and flushed it directly down the toilet. A love of booze & amphetamines led to a tough transition to a life, after baseball. He never quite adjusted. A very public divorce & stalking arrest tarnished his image, but that pales in comparison to the time that he killed that lady, with his car, after hanging out with Playboy models! It's a real roller coaster of a story, from underdog, that you root for, to arrogant jerk, at whom you shake your head!Break your foot, right before the MLB draft, come from obscurity to become a World Series hero, and ruin all the admiration for you,. with several acts of stupidity with Jim Leyritz!! This week, we check into a man, who worked his way onto an NFL roster, almost exclusively on the back of his ability to use his body, with reckless abandon, to take down, and preferably hurt, opposing players. Some cracks began to appear, while still playing. He attacked a reporter, and fought with coaches & teammates. But once he retired, the full impact that his physical style began to show, on his brain. A charge of twice firebombing a business associate & long time friend. He had an epic, and disturbing showdown with police, who wanted him top stop choking & hitting his wife, with a remote control. But they didn't much better luck, with the whole thing escalating from violence to a showdown! All of this, and the NFL thinks his brain is fine!!Make it to the top of your profession on pure grit & violence, deny firebombing your friend's family home, and try your best to remember the months of the year with "Mean" Gene Atkins!! The Final Four Is Not On The Schedule - A Michigan State Basketball Podcast.

Eric & Rod return to the 2019-2020 MSU basketball season and project what would have happened if COVID never came and we were able to enjoy the basketball postseason. In this episode we recap the season and look at the bracket seedings to come to a final four and our best guess for who comes out on top. Final Four teams: Kansas, Seton Hall, Maryland, and Michigan State. Then we discuss the importance of the Mike Garland retirement has on the coaching staff. What he meant for the players, coach Izzo, and what sort of person they need to replace him. Special thanks to listener Patrick in suggesting this fun topic. Learn more about your ad choices. This week, we look into the life of a man, was in trouble since middle school, and kept a steady pace of police interaction, through pretty much his whole life, so far. He came from bad circumstances, being called "crusty" as a kid, but used basketball to overcome that situation, making himself an extremely wealthy man, in the process. All of that, and he never left his friends behind. Which sounds nice, unless your friends continue to beat, shoot, attack, street race, and be accused of even worse. He never quite understands that each arrest made it a little harder to believe that he was trying to change!Get tired of your husky pants, with snaps for a button, work hard to make something of yourself, and make everyone think you're not only a moron, but a bad guy with Zach Randolph!! This week, we check out the life of the man who inspired Sylvester Stallone to write the Rocky character. He came from the streets, liking a barroom brawl even more than a fight in the ring. In boxing, he was known mainly for two things, being the bloodiest fighter, maybe in boxing history, and getting a shot, out of nowhere, to fight Muhammad Ali, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Just like Rocky! He spends the rest of his life selling liquor, legally, and for a little while, selling cocaine, illegally. A federal investigation brings an end to that, but years later, he's in hot water, again, this time for being involved with memorabilia counterfeiting!! The crazy never stops with this guy! Be tapped, out of the blue, to fight for the heavyweight title, become the inspiration for the Rocky franchise, and love to fight, any time, any place with Chuck "The Bayonne Bleeder" Wepner!! This week, we head under the mask, with a hockey goalie, who is a perfectionist, a hall of famer, and a huge drunk, who causes problems at hotels, and seems very willing to fight police officers. He was a hero, wherever he played, and that seems to be part of the problem, because even judges would tell him what a hero he was, while they were sentencing him. He persevered, though. And his latest arrest was caught on video, and it's as embarrassing as it gets! All of this, while owning a company that makes whiskey! On today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about the commitment of Jaylon Robinson to the Ole Miss Rebels and Lane Kiffin. We talk about how at Central Florida and Tennessee the slot receiver is not really a thing and how that was the likely selling point for Robinson by Charlie Weiss Jr.   We talk about decision day for Jaden Rashada and we talk about how impressed we are with him. We talk some measurables but we are really impressed with Ole Miss going all in on him when a Manning is an option. Even with Marcel Reed already commited Rashada is the play and all of that should at least make Rashada honored.   Finally, we talk to Derek Vandygriff about Ole Miss baseball rising from the ashes but they have firmly placed them selves on the NCAA Tourney discussion and I would hate to see them as a #2 or #3 in my regional.    WANT MORE OLE MISS SPORTS CONTENT?
