Amin is in the studio to discuss the Jontay Porter scandal with Dan and Greg Cote. The show continues to expand on the Shohei Ohtani scandal, and how betting scandals are being policed in a world where gambling is legal. Then, Tim Kurkjian joins the show in front of his fake background to continue the conversation about Shohei Ohtani. Also, he is starting a new podcast with his son, and Dan is very excited that he gets to share this time with his son the way he got to share Highly Questionable with Papi. Plus, Tim is really bad at technology and we bring out the Looks Like Game to make him giggle. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

"One and Done" on NBC in 1935. I could only find one episode of "Professor Fiddle Dee Dee" played by Wendall Hall ... an accomplished ukulele and banjo player. A very interesting man who was considered a pioneer in early radio. He wrote "It Ain't Gonna Rain No Mo" that was the first popular song on radio. He sold 2 million records...worth a Gold Disk in the 1930's. Don't try to make sense of this show... the announcer even says "come back tomorrow for more Uke and Nonsense with Professor Fiddle Dee Dee" So who am I to argue with that? While Billy Parker was a mainstay on country radio, his claim to fame was as an influential disc jockey, not as a performer. Ironically, for all of the Top 40 hits he spun over the course of his decades on the air, not one of them was his own. Born July 19, 1939, in Tuskegee, OK, he began playing guitar as a child and by the age of 14 had made his professional debut on the Tulsa radio program Big Red Jamboree. A few years later, he began performing in clubs and in 1959 landed his first job as a DJ.By 1963, Billy was the regular daytime disc jockey on Wichita, Kansas’ KFDI and also hosted a Tulsa television program. In the same year, he cut his first single, “The Line Between Love and Hate,” and was named “Mr. DJ U.S.A.” in a nationwide poll, which helped land him at Nashville’s WSM. After releasing another record, “I’m Drinking All the Time,” in 1966, Parker began playing with Ernest Tubbs Troubadours in 1968 and stayed with the group for three years, until he joined Tulsa’s KVOO.Billy was named Disc Jockey of the Year by the Academy of Country & Western Music in 1975; he won the award again in 1977, 1978, and 1984.In 1976, he scored his first chart hit with “It’s Bad When You’re Caught (With the Goods),” from the album Average Man. He scored his biggest success in 1982 with the title track from the LP (Who’s Gonna Sing) The Last Country Song.He was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in 1992.See more on our website: https://www.voicesofoklahoma.com/interview/parker-billy/

THE TROUBADOUR PODCAST - The Premier Red Dirt, Texas Country and Independent Music Podcast

Every now and then in the course of my life I’ve came across talented people and I’m literally shocked that up to that point, I’d never heard of them or been aware of their work.  Carin Mari was one of those cases for me.  The first time I saw Carin play I was almost a little awestruck.  I’d went to enjoy one of Michael Martin Murphey’s Cowboy Christmas concerts in the beautiful Brown Grand Theatre in Concordia,KS near my own hometown of Scandia.  Murph, who’s currently in his early 70’s, was followed on to the stage by a handful of other male musicians in what I guessed to be in their 50’s, AND a beautiful young gal with a Fender Stratocaster strapped on.  You might say I quickly sat up and took note.  In short order the entire crowd was treated to some great western Christmas music as well as some of Murph’s classics including his iconic song, “Wildfire.”  I couldn’t help from keeping an eye on the girl playing guitar and singing harmonies alongside a Country & Western Music icon like Michael Martin Murphy with such poise.  She just looked SO damn comfortable and “in her element” if you get what I mean.  I immediately was curious about her and her backstory. A little over a year later I was acting as the Master of Ceremonies at a business conference banquet in Fort Collins, CO.  I’d been a part of the conference banquet for the last several years and there had always been an entertainment portion of the evening.  Previously we been entertained by comedians, hypnotists and even a traveling comedy troupe, but low and behold, the entertainment hired this particular year was a singer-songwriter from Buena Vista, CO named Carin Mari! So, that evening after meeting Carin and getting to watch her perform again I was able to ask her to be a guest on the podcast and she’s graciously accepted.  She’s got an interesting backstory involving her introduction to music and Murph at a young age which is really evident in her playing and singing.  You can just tell she is doing what she loves to do and has a great deal of passion for it.  Some folks go through their entire lives, never quite knowing or understanding what they were put on this earth for.  Carin isn’t one of them.  She’s here to make and perform music, and she’s doing just that. So, kick back and enjoy this episode of The Troubadour Podcast with the talented Miss Carin Mari. Born in London to Greek parents, Athena Andreadis - Athena to her fans - finally got the piano she wanted at 16 and has been performing in English and Greek ever since. An extraordinary singer/songwriter,  she sings, records and performs at clubs, top stages and major European festivals. She has seen her music score ads, films and television programs in Europe and has even been the subject of a BBC documentary. The US beckons, so she played at Hollywood's prestigious showcase venue, Hotel Cafe and blew away the audience.  Athena is currently recording her first US record and 4th studio album at The Village Studios in Los Angeles with producer Ethan Allen and a star-studded lineup of collaborators including Jimmie Paxson from Stevie Nicks band.Focused on the studio, she is still taking time off to talk with us this Friday.   Straight outta’ North Georgia comes a rock solid authentic country band, Smith and Wesley  - two brothers, Scott and Todd Smith.  Somehow these two siblings and their band blend  Jimmy Hendrix electric guitar action, gut-busting blues feeling, snare drum rock beats, and down home country western writing and singing that grabs you by the throat, shakes you until your boots loosen up and the kicks you out on dancefloor with music that says “Rock out America”.  Their debut album, Choices & Chances, just out on Garage Door records, will blow the doors off any Georgia barn or Hollywood nightclub.

There comes that moment in all of our lives when the gods align and that magic we have been waiting for finally happens. That moment came for singer, voiceover artist, actress E.G. Daily on a recent Monday night when she made her appearance on NBC's THE VOICE and wowed the world with her astonishing rendition of Faith Hill's “Breathe.” E.G. Daily isn't a newcomer to show business. She was the star of 80s cult classic movie PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE as Dottie, the voice of Tommy Pickles on Nickelodeon's hit cartoon RUGRATS and the guest star of widely popular shows, including the role of Leslie, Phoebes' ex-songwriting friend on FRIENDS. During the 80s dance music explosion, she created 3 top 10 hits which went #1 on the Billboard dance charts, and performed her own songs in over 30 film soundtracks including SCARFACE starring Al Pacino and MY SISTER'S KEEPER, the Cameron Diaz film. But did anyone know her name?If they didn't then, they soon will, thanks to that blessed moment on NBC's THE VOICE.
