The TROUBADOUR PODCAST is an incredible journey into the world of country music, specifically focusing on Red Dirt, Texas Country, and Independent artists. Hosted by two knowledgeable and passionate individuals, this podcast offers a delightful mix of interviews, stories from the road, and insights into the music industry. Whether you're a die-hard country music fan or just starting to explore the genre, this podcast is an absolute must-listen.
One of the best aspects of The TROUBADOUR PODCAST is undoubtedly its hosts and guests. Not only are they incredibly talented and accomplished artists themselves, but they also have a knack for storytelling and engaging their audience. Each episode feels like sitting down with old friends, as they share fascinating tales from their careers in the music industry. The conversations are often humorous, insightful, and filled with genuine passion for their craft. It's refreshing to hear from such authentic voices in an industry that can sometimes feel overly produced.
Another standout aspect of this podcast is its ability to introduce listeners to new artists and songs. While it's always enjoyable to hear from familiar names in the country music scene, The TROUBADOUR PODCAST goes above and beyond by showcasing lesser-known talent. This not only exposes listeners to a wider range of musical styles but also helps support independent artists who may not have mainstream recognition yet. It's a wonderful way to discover hidden gems and expand your playlist.
As for the worst aspects of this podcast, it's hard to find any major flaws. Occasionally there may be some technical issues with audio quality or background noise during interviews, but these minor hiccups don't detract from the overall enjoyment of the show. Additionally, some episodes may focus more heavily on specific sub-genres or regions within country music (like Red Dirt or Texas Country), which may not appeal to every listener. However, given the diverse range of content covered by The TROUBADOUR PODCAST, there is still something for everyone to enjoy.
In conclusion, The TROUBADOUR PODCAST is an absolute gem for country music enthusiasts. From its engaging hosts and guests to the abundance of stories and insights shared, this podcast truly captures the essence of Red Dirt, Texas Country, and Independent music. Whether you're a long-time fan or just curious about exploring the genre, give this podcast a listen - you won't be disappointed.
Brody Buster was a child prodigy on the harmonica and was already making appearances on major television shows like the Tonight's Show with Jay Leno and the 90's sitcom staple Full House, all before he turned 10 years old!!! Brody was baptized into the blues scene in Kansas City at a very early age and began forging a career that has allowed him to share the stage with the likes of B.B. King, Keb Mo, Quincy Jones, Chaka Kahn and others! As you'll hear in the episode, his battle with addiction nearly took him completely out of the game altogether, but thankfully, he's in recovery and back to playing live and he's got a brand-new record perfectly titled, Redemption, coming out in the Spring of 2025. This is another episode that really highlights what a presence on social media can do for you in getting visibility and making connections with other well-known artists that can not only eventually become friends and colleagues, but also help you with your own career. The #1 way you can support The Troubadour is by visiting our Patreon page Carly and I were thrilled to have Josh Crutchmer back on the show to talk about his 3rd and latest book, Red Dirt Unplugged. Along with working a day job for a little ol publication called the New York Times, native Okie and Red Dirt Music Fan, Josh Crutchmer, is a journalist who's played a significant role in getting recognition for the artists and the music we all dig for years now. For example, Josh just spent an entire year basically embedded with Wyatt Flores as he rides a very hot streak into the fall. He was in the studio with him as he recorded his latest album. Josh has also been spending a lot of time with The Great Divide as they capped their comeback this year with some Texas Music honors as well as their Opry debut in July and their Ryman debut (opening for Wyatt) coming in December! Over the past year, Josh has also had his articles published in Rolling stone featuring artists like Flatland Calvary, Wade Bowen, Dylan Gossett, Koe Wetzel, American Aquarium, Cody Canada, Reckless Kelly, Muscadine Bloodline, Dasha, Shane Smith, Old 97s and Charles Wesley Godwin. So, let's just say Josh has his pulse on the scene and the exciting time we're all experiencing in our favorite genre of original music. We were thrilled to have him on the show and we can't recommend his book highly enough! The #1 way you can support The Troubadour is by visiting our Patreon page Based in Refugio, Texas, songwriter Devin Michaels received his first guitar in 2017 and has been weaving his thoughts into music ever since. His quiet nature meant that music could be an outlet – a way to get out all the things he couldn't otherwise say. While he was raised on George Strait, Merle Haggard, and his grandmother's beloved Tejano music, Devin puts something a little grittier out into the world from his own fingertips. He combines influences from the music of his childhood with elements of rock and alternative to create a sound that is loyal to classic country but can entertain a rock n' roll crowd easily. His songs conjure vivid images, making audiences feel every emotion Devin has poured into each line. Whether it be the angsty and angry Wasted Time, or the heartbreakingly haunting ballad, Whiskey, he brings the listener on a journey rather than simply telling them a story. Backed by a five-piece band, Devin creates music for people who love hard and hurt deeply. He sees himself and his music as an outlet for the brokenhearted. Bones has written with the Bon Jovi, collaborated with Jelly Roll and he takes a self-described Chameleon-like approach to music. On July 12th his new record “Love out of Lemons”, dropped. He's actually playing in Sturgis, SD tomorrow night at the Full Throttle Saloon for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and for the whole month of September he's on tour with another one of my favorite bands, Blackberry Smoke. For my Texas friends Bones will be at Gruene Hall with the Steel Woods on October 17th. On top of all that, he's just seems like a good dude. The #1 way you can support The Troubadour is by visiting our Patreon page It's Monday, July 8th, 2024 and this is an episode I've been excited about since we got it scheduled. In January of 2024, Americana band Mike and the Moonpies officially announced they were changing the name of their band to Silverada. Their brand new self-titled record just came out and it's got some bangers on it. Silverada is fresh off of an album release party at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and their upcoming tour schedule is insane! For example, this coming Friday and Saturday nights they are playing at Billy Bob's and Gruene Hall respectively. And in the next few months they've got dates everywhere from Washington, D.C. to Seattle and from Milwaukee, WI to Luckenbach, TX, and just about everywhere in between. Frontman Mike Harmier tells us about some new songwriting techniques he employed for this new record and some of you songwriters out there might just have some new tools to put in your bag. So, here we go with Episode 194 of the Troubadour featuring Mike Harmier of Silverada! We're also excited to say that we are now an affiliate for Sweetwater. The #1 way you can support The Troubadour is by visiting our Patreon page This episode features our interview with Country Music artist Donice Morace. You can't fake authentic. You know it when you see it – and you know it when you hear it. Authentic isthe best word that can be used to describe Donice Morace. From his chiseled good looks and easy-goingpersonality that exude the confidence of a man who knows exactly who he is, to his music which catchesyour ear and takes you back to another era when country music was defined by vocal stylists who were immediately identifiable, Donice is truly authentic. Donice began his journey in music at the tender age of six when his father bought him his first guitar. By the time he was a junior in high school he was singing in choir, and after seeing George Strait in concert while in college at Texas A&M, it became clear to him that music would be his life's calling. The Vidor,Texas native found inspiration from the music of Keith Whitley, George Jones, and Conway Twitty. And while those country traditionalists helped to shape his own sound, it was two local country music heroes, Tracy Byrd and Mark Chesnutt, who gave Donice a good blueprint when it came time to take hiscareer to the professional level and launch his own band. “I learned so much from watching how they had handled their careers. It was like Honky Tonk 101. Donice continued to grow his stock with the release of his debut self-titled EP in 2017, which featured the top 25 single, “Good Hurt Comin' On,” and “WD-40 and Duct Tape,” which was accompanied by a music video, and peaked at number 15 on the Texas Regional Radio Report. He doubled down with the release of his debut album ‘Long Live the Cowboy' in 2019, unashamedly putting the cowboy back in country music. Fast forward to today, Donice recently released his latest critically acclaimed album ‘This Life I Love,' marking a watershed moment for Donice to continue stake his claim on the country music landscape. The album features his recent trilogy of hit singles and music videos, “One Drink In,” “Goin' Goin'” and “Wait Til I'm Gone.” Individually and collectively, these songs have shone a bright light on the Texas native, notched him a win as “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the 2022 Texas Country Music Awards, and garnered high praise and coverage from some of country music's largest media outlets. Donice Morace remains the “One to Watch” in the neo-traditional country music movement that he is helping to spearhead. We're also excited to say that we are now an affiliate for Sweetwater. Today on episode #176 of The Troubadour we are joined once again by Dallas Wayne Pryor of the Lazy Wayne Band. Dallas was our guest on Episode #134 almost 2 years ago when that episode was release on August 22nd of 2021. We're going to find out what Dallas and the Lazy Wayne has been up to since then. I'm also excited to have him on the show because The Lazy Wayne band will be taking the stage in my little hometown of Scandia, KS on Saturday July 8th for the Scandia Riverfest so I'm really looking forward to that. I also want to remind everyone that we could really use your support on Patreon. Since we started the patreon page we're now up to 11 supporters and we appreciate every single one of them. But we could really use some more help to keep our fire alive and know that more than just these eleven folks love what Carly and I are doing here. But for now, let's roll into to episode #176 of The Troubadour featuring a fellow Kansan, Dallas Wayne Pryor of The Lazy Wayne Band.

So go check it out! Today's guest, Ryan Lindsay, has had great success as a songwriter and storyteller having won several Country Music Alberta awards as well as having been a nominee for a Canadian Country Music Association award. Along with being a musician, Ryan is also a genuine outdoorsman having worked as a backcountry guide and growing up on the prairies of Canada. Due to extenuating circumstances…or put another way, due to my eldest son getting involved in a little scrap after school on the day this episode was recorded, I had to text Carly and let her know I was dealing with that little situation and she'd have to fly solo on this interview with Ryan. Which really is a bummer because I was excited to talk to Ryan about hunting, fishing and other outdoorsy things, along with his music of course…In any event, my son was dealt with, Carly pulled off the episode on her own, and here we are! So along with you, I'll be listening to this episode for the first time as well! Here comes Episode #175 of The Troubadour featuring our very own Carly Evan's visit with country singer and songwriter Ryan Lindsay.

Carly and I would be eternally grateful as we continue to try to keep our head above water with this thing. Back in March of 2021 Carly and I released Episode #112 of The Troubadour featuring a western swing band that I knew had a boatload of talent. The interview featured Ryan Humbert and Emily Bates of the Ohio based band named The Shootouts. At the time they were promoting their latest record entitled “Bullseye” produced by Chuck Mead. Well, since that time they've been grinding it out on the road and have cut another record called “Stampede” with Ray Benson and Sam Seifert co-producing. “Stampede” features guest performances by Ray, Asleep at the Wheel, Jim Lauderdale, Marty Stuart, Raul Malo and Buddy Miller. Not exactly a bunch of light-weights! Today we're catching up with Shootouts frontman Ryan Humbert to hear all about the new record and their debut performance at The Grand Ole Opry on February 24th, 2023 which just also happened to be the day “Stampede” was released. There're some great conversation in this episode that you won't want to miss so let's get to it! Here comes Episode #174 of The Troubadour and our visit with Ryan Humbert, frontman of the red hot western swing band, The Shootouts.

Carly and I would be eternally grateful as we continue to try to keep our head above water with this thing. Today's guest is a country artist that calls New Mexico home. He's got a killer baritone voice and you can just tell he's the real deal. Will Banister was immersed in the music of Merle Haggard, Hank and George Strait at a young age and you can really hear those influences in his music. His popularity on Tik-Tok, Instagram and Facebook has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years in response to his no fluff, off the cuff and honest posts. Along with touring here he's toured Europe to great accolades and he's even had a song in a Clint Eastwood movie. He's a very humble down to earth guy when you're speaking to him, but when he gets on stage or in a studio his talent speaks for itself. For our Oklahoma listeners Will's gonna be playing at Chiggers in Broken Bow on Saturday, May 6th and he's got a bunch of dates scheduled in Texas including one at Cheatham Street Warehouse on Friday, May 19th. All his tour date and everything else Will Banister can be found by visiting willbanister.com. Links for this and much more will be found in the show notes for this episode. So let's get to it! Here comes Episode #173 of The Troubadour and our visit with a true country artist. Mr. Will Banister.
Today is Sunday, April 16th, 2023 and I'm probably more excited about releasing this episode than almost any other I've ever been able to record up to this point in my journey as a podcaster. This episode marks a full-circle moment in my life of music so indulge me for just a second while I take you down memory lane a bit. On July 4th, 1999 I was a twenty year-old wannabe musician. Several college friends and I had made the trek from North Central Kansas all the way to Luckenbach, TX for Willie Nelson's 4th of July picnic. That day I got to see many well-known and legendary musicians, and most of them for the first time in my life. But about 4pm on that hot hill-country Texas day, an absolute freak of a guitar player took the stage. What I witnessed over the next 20 minutes or so left me with my mouth gaping wide open. That was the first time I'd even heard the name Monte Montgomery, but I knew what I was witnessing was other-worldly; it was almost like seeing something from a different dimension. What Monte could do on an acoustic guitar seemed unhuman. His ability was incredible but the sounds he could get out of that guitar we're unlike any I've ever heard. I've been a big fan of Monte's ever since then and today, nearly 25 years after seeing him play that first time, Monte Montgomery is our guest today on The Troubadour. As you'll hear in the interview, Monte has an interesting backstory from picking up a guitar for the first time when he was about 13 years old, to now, being known throughout the world as one of the best acoustic guitar players alive today. Guitar Player Magazine named him as one their “Top 50 All-Time Greatest Guitar Players” and he can often be seen sharing a stage with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel or playing All-Star Guitar Player showcases at NAMM. Fact is, he'll be playing on May 5th at the Dallas International Guitar Festival. He can often be seen at the legendary Saxon Pub in Austin and for our Oklahoma listeners, Monte will be doing a two night stand at The Blue Door in Oklahoma City on May 12th and 13th. Links for everything and some embedded YouTube videos of Monte shredding his Alvarez can be found in the show notes for this episode at thetroubadourpodcast.com And also, if you can find it in your heart to throw Carly and I a bone, we would love to have you sign up as a supporter on our Patreon page so we can continue to bring you interviews with these great artists like Monte. You can sign up for as little as $3.00 per month and we'll even send you some podcast swag for doing so So take action now and go check the “Support The Podcast” tab at thetroubadourpodcast.com. So let's get into it! Here comes Episode #172 of The Troubadour and our visit with one of the greatest guitar players to ever live, Monte Montgomery.

So, the next time you need any new strings, picks, microphones, recording gear, etc. make sure to use this link! Today is Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 and on this episode Carly and I are stoked to bring you our recent visit with a great artist and songwriter from Manitoba, Canada named Del Barber. If you are already into other Canadian artists like Corb Lund and Colter Wall, you'll probably want to add Del to the list of highly talented singer-songwriters from up north. But first, I'd be remis if I didn't remind you that the #1 way you can support our podcast and keep hearing interviews with these artists and songwriters is by becoming a patron at our Patreon Page and it's super easy to do. Just pick one of the 5 tier packages, starting at as little as $3.00 per month and we'll send you some free podcast swag. Currently, we've only got 8 patrons that have taken advantage of this, but I know there's a ton more listeners that would be glad to help, if they only knew how. Well, Patreon seems to be about the easiest avenue we've found for folks that want to support the show to do so. Go check out the link by clicking the “Support The Podcast” tab at thetroubadourpodcast.com. Finding out about the music of Del Barber was really like a breath of fresh air for me. Del is a “songwriter's songwriter” and one quickly understands why he gets compared to guys like John Prine and has been featured in Rolling Stone. He's a very down to earth dude that lives in rural Canada about 4 hours from an airport and when he's not writing songs on his farm, he's enjoying the quiet remoteness of the land. As you'll hear he's an introspective guy, as most songwriters are, for me it was kinda like talking to an ol buddy I hadn't seen in years. His new album, “Almanac” will come out on April 28th and he and his band are getting ready to hit the road to showcase the new tunes. The tour starts this coming Tuesday, April 4th and they'll be all over the provinces of Canada grinding it out until mid-May. And for you Texas listeners, Del will be at the Mucky Duck in Houston on May 26th. He'll be adding more stateside dates before long so make sure you check out his schedule at delbarber.com and pre-order your copy of “Almanac” while your there. Links for everything can be found in the show notes for this episode at thetroubadourpodcast.com So let's get into it! Here comes Episode #171 of The Troubadour and our visit with Canadian singer-songwriter, and potentially my new deer hunting buddy, Del Barber

Today's guest, JD Clayton is a native of Fort Smith, Arkansas and things are really starting to happen for this kid. His new Album “Long Way Home” is getting lots of attention and if you check out his tour schedule at www.jdclaytonofficial.com you'll see just how busy he is right now. As you'll hear during the interview, the songs that make up the album were born during Covid, mostly while JD was working for a landscaping company in Nashville. So, in the past few years, JD has went from a day laborer to a guy who's opening shows for the likes of Dwight Yoakam and being a featured artist on the ever-popular Jam in the Van series. JD and I also go down the rabbit hole on vintage Gibson J-50 guitars and his performance of one of my favorite John Denver songs called “This Old Guitar”. Links for all this stuff can be found in the show notes for this episode. So let's get into it! Here comes Episode #170 and our visit with a great new artist I expect you're going to be seeing and hearing a lot of soon; JD Clayton.
The #1 way you can support our podcast is by visiting our Patreon page! We're also excited to say that we are now an affiliate for Sweetwater. So, the next time you need any new strings, picks, microphones, recording gear, etc. make sure to use this link! Today is Sunday, March 5th, 2023 and it's a big day here on The Troubadour! This episode unofficially marks the beginning of our 6th season of The Troubadour Podcast! And I've got to give some credit where it's due. If Carly Evans hadn't agreed to join me on this little idea of mine, after I struggled through that first season of about a dozen episodes on my own, I can tell you with 100% confidence, The Troubadour would have never made it this far. So a huge shout out to my wonderful co-host and friend, Carly! There's another reason why today's episode is so special. Back in the 1990s when I was spending lots of time in the cab of a tractor or swather during my teens, songs from today's guests were in regular rotation on the local FM station. As you'll hear on the show today, the band McBride & The Ride was formed in 1989 as a brain-child of Nashville record producer Tony Brown. Tony was aware of individual talent he saw in Terry McBride, Ray Herndon and Billy Thomas and brought them together and the band was formed. After a good run together, which included 5 top 5 singles back then, the group eventually went their separate ways but all remained active musicians, playing and writing for some of the best artists in country music. But now in 2023, the band is back at it, releasing new music and touring as a group again. Carly and I couldn't be more thrilled to have them as guests on today's show. If you'll recall, Terry was our guest on Episode #100, and to have the entire group here on today's show was simply a thrill. Within the show notes for today's episode, you can check out the YouTube link for their new single “Marlboros and Avon” complete with their signature and unforgettable harmonies. This interview was certainly a pleasure to be a part of and I can't wait to catch the band live sometime soon. For you Texas listeners, McBride & The Ride will be playing at the Kenney Store in Kenney, TX on April 28th , and they'll be at The Texan Theatre in Cleveland, TX on April 29th. For my Kansas brethren, they'll be playing at Knuckleads in Kansas City on June 1st. So let's get to it! Here comes Episode #169 and our visit with Terry McBride, Ray Herndon and Billy Thomas of McBride & The Ride. CALLING ALL HEARTS ACOUSTIC AT THE CASTLE

I'm not sure how he gets everything done in his life with everything he's got going on, but we're about to get some insight on that. Unfortunately or fortunately, however you want to look at, I wasn't able to take part in this episode and Carly had to fly solo interviewing Michael for this episode and she did a great job. For the first new episode of the year, we're starting out with an interview with singer-songwriter Chris Canterbury. Chris has a great new record out called “Quaalude Lullabies”; the name of the project itself had me interested from the get-go. The record is described as a nine-track collection of mostly sad songs and honest insight into razor-edged topics like addiction depression and loneliness. With a description like that, and as a songwriter myself who digs on that kinda subject matter, I knew I wanted to hear this stuff and learn more about this guy. Chris is originally from Louisiana but now calls Nashville home. I think you guys are really gonna enjoy this visit. So let's get to it! Here's the first episode of 2023 on The Troubadour Podcast featuring singer-songwriter, Chris Canterbury! Wanna give Pete and Carly a hand at The Troubadour AND get some free swag? CLICK HERE
