Since Creation, Jesus Has Come; and He Will Come Again! MESSAGE SUMMARY: As we enter the Advent season, we're invited to embark on a profound spiritual journey that connects us to the very foundations of our faith. This series, 'Firstborn,' takes us back to the dawn of creation, reminding us of God's masterful handiwork and His ultimate plan for humanity. We're challenged to confront the reality of human sinfulness and our deep need for a Savior. This narrative arc from creation to redemption beautifully sets the stage for the coming of Christ, both in His first advent as a humble baby and His promised return as the triumphant judge. As we reflect on these themes, we're called to examine our own lives and prepare our hearts for Christ's coming. How can we, in this season, align ourselves more closely with God's grand design for humanity? TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, God is working His will in my life. (Philippians 2:13). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): 1) Jesus as the Light of Life: John 1:4-5, John 8:12; 2) Creation and God's role as Creator: Genesis 1:1-31 (entire chapter on creation), Colossians 1:16; 3) Human sinfulness and need for a Savior: Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12; 4) Advent and the coming of Christ: Isaiah 9:6-7, Luke 2:1-20; 5) Zacharias and Elizabeth: Luke 1:5-25; 6) Mary and Joseph: Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-38; 7) Second Coming of Christ: Matthew 24:30-31, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. But the specific thing that God is calling you to may not be in that chart. You can still repent and believe that he is fully trustworthy. Repent of your sins against the Lord God today. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. As we begin our yearlong study of the book of Genesis, we must stop and consider all the theology and worldview data that is contained in the first verses of the Bible. God was in the beginning and created the world by the word of his power. Everything Christians believe depends on this!

The story in Genesis 1 is often read with the wrong questions in mind. Instead of addressing how the world came to be, this story describes the one who caused the world to be. It is a story of “who”, not “how”. As we read this story about a God who is a Creator, we see over and over again that this world was created by a good God to be a blessing. Our response is simple: to turn to Him in worship.

This week we kick off our series exploring the Trinity: Knowing God! For the first sermon of the series, we are looking at God the Father as a Creator. We see this characteristic of God from the first words of the Bible in Genesis 1 and as Austin points out, what God creates, communicates who He is!

By [wbt_preacher_link preacher=”Vince Finnegan”] To God be the glory – Romans 16:27; Galatians 1:5; Ephesians 3:21; Philippians 4:20; 1 Timothy 1:17; 2 Timothy 4:18; Hebrews 13:21; 1 Peter 4:11; 5:11 God is not who we want Him to be; rather, He is who He says He is regardless of our understanding, acceptance, or approval. Genesis 1:1 The word “God” occurs 32 times in Genesis chapter one and thus draws attention to the most important reality of our lives – GOD IS! Exodus 3:13-14 “I am” derived from the Hebrew verb “hayah” meaning “to be” and is wisely translated “I am,” for the word denotes past, present, and future. When God said to Moses “I am who I am,” in essence He was saying I am the existing one, the eternal one, and the present one. Our God's name is Yahweh ─ Exodus 6:6-8; 8:28; 10:8,16,17; 20:2, 5, 7,10,12 Yahweh is The Creator ─ Genesis 1:1; Exodus 20:11; 31:17; Revelation 4:11 Yahweh is the Most High God ─ Genesis 14:18-20; Deuteronomy 10:17, 18 Yahweh knows the future ─ Genesis 15:13-14 Yahweh is Just ─ Deuteronomy 32:3-4; Genesis 18:25 Yahweh is everywhere present ─ Deuteronomy 20:1-4; 31:6-8 Yahweh is Holy ─ Leviticus 11:44, 45; 19:2; 20:7, 26; 21:8 Yahweh is a covenant keeper ─ Genesis 17:1-8 Seek God, and you will find Him. Deuteronomy 4:29; Exodus 33:18-19; Yahweh is compassionate, gracious, abounding in lovingkindness and truth, and forgiving ─ Exodus 34:6-7 Yahweh is faithful ─ Deuteronomy 7:9 He is also our provider, healer, director, protector. The post God According to the Torah first appeared on Living Hope.

Give Thanks #4 Let Every Breath Praise the Lord By Louie Marsh, 11-24-2015 Each of the five books of the Psalms closes with a doxology (Psalm 41:13, 72:18-19, 89:52, 106:48). This entire Psalm can be seen as a doxology that not only closes the fifth and final volume of the collected Psalms, but also closes the entire Book of Psalms. Psalm 150 contains no argument, no real teaching, no real explanation. It is an eloquent, passionate cry to all creation to give Yahweh the praise due to Him. Intro - video 1) I should praise the Lord EVERYWHERE. 1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Psalm 150:1 (ESV) Jesus SERVES ME in a heavenly sanctuary. 1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, Hebrews 8:1 (ESV) Jesus makes His sanctuary among BELIEVERS.. 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 2 Corinthians 6:16 (ESV) Jesus sanctuary on earth is BELIEVERS BODIES. 16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV) JESUS HIMSELF will be my sanctuary in heaven. 22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. Revelation 21:22 (ESV) 2) Why should I praise the Lord? 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Psalm 150:2 (ESV) His mighty His excellent 3) HOW should I praise the Lord? 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Psalm 150:3-5 (ESV) * Trumpet: “Sophar, from its noble, cheering, and majestic sound.” Lute: “Nebel; the nabla, a hollow stringed instrument; perhaps like the guitar.” * Harp: “Kinnor, another stringedinstrument, played on with the hands or fingers.” * Tambourine: “Toph, drum, tabret, or tomtom, or tympanumof the ancients; a skin stretched over a broad hoop; perhaps something like the tambarine.” Dance: “Machol, the pipe… It never means dance; see note on Psalm 149:3.” Stringed instruments: “Minnim. This literally signifies strings put in order; perhaps a triangular kind of hollow instrumenton which the strings were regularly placed, growing shorter and shorter till they came to a point.” * Flutes: “Ugab. Very likely the syrinxor mouth organ; Pan’s pipe; both of the ancients and moderns.” * Loud cymbals: “Tseltselim. Two hollow plates of brass, which, being struck together, produced a sharp clanging sound.” Clashing cymbals: “What the high-sounding cymbalsmeant I know not; unless those of a larger make, struck above the head, and consequently emitting a louder sound.” Show picture of me in band in college “The list of instruments is not meant to be comprehensive, though it may be. We do not know what instruments the ancient Jews had. The point is actually that everything you have can be used to worship God.” (Boice) The broad list of musical instruments tells us that God wants every class and group of people to praise Him, because these instruments were normally played by different types of people. “The horn was the curved ‘Shophar,’ blown by the priests; harp and psaltery were played by the Levites, timbrels were struck by women; and dancing, playing on stringed instruments and pipes and cymbals, were not reserved for the Levites.” (Maclaren) 4) WHO should praise the Lord? 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!... Psalm 150:6a (ESV) Derek Kidner noted that the literal phrase is, “Let all breath praise the Lord.” John Trapp wrote, “Or, Let every breath praise the Lord… We have all as much reason to praise God as we have need to draw breath.” “The word nesamah [has breath] denotes all living creatures, endowed with life by the Creator (Genesis 1:24–25; 7:21–22), but always in distinction from the Creator.” (VanGemeren) Show Mary Jane pics - explain 5) It ends as it begins in the LORD. 6 … Praise the LORD! Psalm 150:6b (ESV) Praise the Lord = HALLELUJAH! “Your life may resemble the psalter with its varying moods, its light and shadow, its sob and smile; but it will end with hallelujahs, if only you will keep true to the will and way and work of the Most Holy.” (Meyer)
Desiring God, Discipling Others | Sermons from New Covenant Church Cebu
Knowing facts about God and Genesis is surely helpful, and doctrines from the book of Genesis are as fascinating as they are necessary. However useful these are, they will not be enough for the Christian life. One of the things that make up a huge part of our relationship with God is our awe, admiration, and amazement of Him. We must always be captivated by His magnificent attributes. In fact, one of the problems or causes of boredom when it comes to Scripture reading is the tendency to memories facts, without meditating on His attributes.
You probably know some generous people. You probably want to be a generous person. Did you know God is a generous God? That's the reality at the heart of the creation narratives in the opening chapters of Genesis. In this episode of SermonCast, Dr. Matt O'Reilly explores why God's generosity is unstoppable, even when faced with human greed.

We know this because Jesus says in Matthew 12:30, "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” James 4:4 says, "You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." There is a for God and against God. There is fearing the Lord and not fearing the Lord. Everyone has a worldview Everyone has a worldview - it’s the lens through which we interpret and understand the world and our lives; it’s the reason behind what we do; it’s our belief system that is they why behind our what. Our worldview is either biblical or worldly. The Worldly Worldview rooted in Secular humanism: secular humanism is by definition "an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems." (merrium webster dictionary) Secular Humanism seen in the Bible - Romans 1:18-32 We need to heed Colossians 2:6-8: "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits[a] of the world, and not according to Christ. We are either rooted in Christ or rooted in empty deceit and human tradition." Three Essential Truths to Develop a Biblical Worldview It starts with knowing God. God is Creator - Genesis 1,2, Isaiah 40, Romans 1 God is Most High - Romans 11 God is the Divine Providence - Eccl 3:14 Write those three beliefs out - teach them to yourself - and to your children. Find verses that correspond with them. They are foundational to our worldview. From those truths found in scripture will begin to flow the reason for the life we live and have implications on ETERNITY. Voddie Baucham said in regards to worldview: "Scripture overrides and over arches everything unless we are actively intent on conforming our worldview to Scripture, what happens is we allow scripture to be conformed by our worldview. and we re-read things and try to make them fit instead of asking ourselves “why am I committed to this position in the first place? what is it that’s making me committed to this position in the first place?” Recommended Resources Total Truth - Nancy Pearcy An incredible tool in understanding and developing the Biblical Worldview. Pastor Anthony reads from Genesis 1:24 & 2:2.
Christmas 2016 - O come, O come, Emmanuel John 1:1-18 Vv 1-2. The Word - always existed, with God, was God. Why does John refer to Jesus as the "Word" in the introduction? He does not use the term again after these 18 verses. He uses other titles for Jesus: Son of God, Christ, Messiah.. Why not use one of those terms? DA Carson proposes that John, carried along by the Holy Spirit, wanted to capture the full scope of who Jesus is and what He did. He uses a term that was significant both to Jews and to Greeks. To Jews, the word, "word" was used of the word of God from the OT. V. 3. Creator Genesis, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." "And God said," He spoke all creation into existence by his word. The word of God was the agent of creation. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. (Psalms 107:20 ESV) God's word is the standard of holiness I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalms 119:11 ESV) In Jeremiah 1 and Isaiah 9, the word of God reveals God and his intentions. John is saying, Jesus is the ultimate word of God: Jesus is the agent of creation Jesus brings healing and deliverance Jesus is the ultimate standard of God's holiness Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God Jesus is all of those things as the ultimate word of God. In the OT, God revealed Himself through the words of the Law, the words of the prophets, through the poetry of the wisdom books. In the NT God spoke, not with just words, but with His Son. Jesus is God. He is not just a good teacher or a prophet. He is God incarnate, God in flesh. God and man. Jesus is the ultimate expression of God: Creator, Healer, Deliverer, Holy God. In Greek, "word" is "logos" "Word" meant to the Greeks "the reason that governs the world. " We use it in our "ologies". The understanding or thought about a topic. Theology - understanding of God. Biology - the thought (or study) of life. Vv 4-5 "life and light" - life in Him as ever-existing God Who gave life to everything that is living. His light is illumination of Who God is: what god is like in His perfect being What man is like: sinful, rebellious, rejecting God, needing a Savior Vv 6-8 Application: You exist because God created you. ...all things were created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:16b ESV) You were created for him, to love him with all your heart, soul, mind, strength. He asks for you to love Him with all of your being. "O come, let us adore him." Jesus lays 2 claims on your life: 1) He created you and 2) He bought you back from sin with the payment of a ransom that was his life for yours. "You are not your own, you were bought with a price, so glorify God with your body." (1 Cor 6:19b-20) He asks for you to glorify him with the new life that He gives you. To no longer live for yourself, but for him who loved you and gave himself for you. Vv. 9-11 "the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him." "He went to his own people, the Jewish nation, but they rejected him. How is it that the Creator could come to His creation and not be recognized? 1) The enemy blinds us. 2) Our idolatry has us imaging God in a form that serves us. DA Carson: We un-god God, and make ourselves gods. Vv. 12-13. "All who receive him, all who believe in him, he gave rights to be children of God.
The Bible begins with this simple, yet profound statement: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1). This statement is simple because we learn that everything was created by God. It is profound because of the magnitude of the creative power of God. In our sermon today, we shall focus on God’s creative power. https://firstbaptistscottcity.org/2015/09/14/god-is-the-creator-genesis-11/
