In Genesis 3 we have the record of how sin first entered the world through the yielding to temptation by the first created humans - Adam and Eve. The Apostle Paul says also, that at this time death also first came to the Adamic creation as a result of sin - Romans 5verses12. Adam and Eve after their creation - Adam from the dust (Genesis 2verses7), and Eve from Adam's side during a God-induced sleep (2verses20-25) - the man unable to find a suitable partner from the lesser creation; and feeling first, lonely; then joyous with a compatible companion. Chapter 3 commences with an introduction to the snake, who at that era had great powers of observation; limited reasoning capacity; and the ability to talk. The snake suggested that Adam and Eve were being deceived and held back by the Elohim (God). And so, after seeing the fruit of the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil" was attractive (pleasant to the eyes); it was good, and an excellent quality (good for food); and its clinching appeal - "a tree to be desired to make one wise" (the pride of life. Paul tells us in Philippians 2 that Adam and Eve grasped for equality with God - which thing our Lord Jesus Christ never did when tempted. The Apostle John tells us in his first letter chapter 2verses15-17 that all temptation and sin fall in one or more of these categories. Having sinned they were expelled from the garden; James tells us in chapter 1 the process of sin within every human mind -verses 13-15. Having disobeyed God, He the Almighty must in justice enforce the law He had given. Adam and Eve now had the sentence of death activated within them - this is called "mortality". What was possible before transgressing was now "a law within them" (Romans 7verses21-25) - i.e. now an inevitability. The human race now found that from this point forward all descendants from the first human parents found that sin cannot be overcome in their lives every time that each of us is subjected to temptation -Romans 6 tells us that they were bond slaves to sin. It required God to produce a Saviour, His Son, who although bearing the bias to sin within himself; this being the entail of the effects of Adam and Eve's first sin, would himself be sinless - though Jesus was of our identical nature (Hebrews 2verses12-18.

On today's show, Episode 181, this is the SECOND PART of a discussion that I had with Professional Mechanical Engineer Andrew Hoy about the biblical Hebrew Ohel Mo'ed – the tabernacle or the tent of Elohim (“God”) as described in the Bible in Exodus Chapters 26 and 27. As a professional mechanical engineer and the son of a professor of mechanical engineering, Andrew Hoy approached the subject of the tabernacle structure with exacting attention to detail, drawing on his knowledge of Hebrew, textual biblical evidence, and the mathematical constant referred to as 3.14, commonly known as “pi.” What Andrew discovered in the Exodus Hebrew texts challenged him to reconsider the traditional tabernacle model and to begin accepting the textual biblical evidence showing that the Israelite Tent or Tabernacle was a circular structure with a dome-shaped design. Join me for the second part of our discussion about what Andrew discovered about the biblical tabernacle and why the information is so vital to our Hebraic and Messianic Torah Walk of Faith.

In this episode, Rabbi Ben presents a profound teaching from the *Degel Machaneh Ephraim* on the transformation of Jacob to Israel. Through a mystical lens, we explore Jacob's wrestling with God and man, his ascent from constriction to expansiveness, and the deeper significance of his name change. Drawing on the *gematria* connection between *Elohim* (God) and *HaTeva* (nature), Rabbi Ben reveals how Jacob's journey symbolizes our own struggles to rise above the limitations of the natural world and find divine presence in every moment. Tune in to uncover the timeless wisdom of this story and its relevance to our spiritual growth today.
Why does God need a name in the first place? John Mark argues that it's because there are many "gods". He surveys scripture passages relating to gods and demonic beings, not only warning us that they are real and should never be worshipped, but that Yahweh is the one true creator God and is higher than them all. Key Scripture Passages: Exodus 34v6-7, Exodus 12v12, Exodus 15v11, Exodus 20v2-4, Psalm 82, Mark 5v1-13, Ephesians 6v10-12This podcast and its episodes are paid for by The Circle, our community of monthly givers. Welcome to our special Musaf Rosh Hashanah Pesukim series. We're now in the fourth pasuk of Shofarot. As we discussed, the first three pesukim of Shofarot refer to the shofar of Har Sinai. The next three refer to our shofar, that we blow on Rosh Hashanah, and the last three refer to the shofar of the times of Mashiach. Our pasuk today is from Tehilim 47,6 עָלָ֣ה אֱ֭לֹהִים בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה בְּק֣וֹל שׁוֹפָֽר׃ Hashem/Elokim (in His trait of justice) goes up in the Teruah, Hashem (with His trait of mercy) b'kol shofar. The Teruah , which is a broken blast of the shofar, refers to Hashem's justice, and that's why the term Elohim , which is God's justice, is used, whereas Shofar refers to the straight sound of the Tekiyah , and that refers to Hashem's trait of mercy. This is quoted by the Maharsha in Rosh Hashanah 32B and indicated in a famous Midrash brought down the Pisikta Rabbati parashat מ - David Hamelech tells us there is no greater force than the shofar that removes God's trait of justice and brings Him close to mercy. On Rosh Hashanah God sits down on the chair of justice and when we blow the shofar, God switches from His justice to His mercy. That's why it starts off, Elohim - God plans on going up as an Elohim , and the power of the shofar turns Him into Hashem . So God switches from His chair of justice to His chair of mercy. The Slah, also known as the Noda BiYehuda (his real name was Rabbi Yehuda Landau), was one of the Gedolim of a few hundred years ago. In his sefer on Hagigah 14A, he shares something fascinating: What are these two chairs? What's this chair of mercy? Does Hashem have a separate mercy chair? He cites the Yalkut Shimoni in Malachim 2,46 which talks about the wicked king Menashe. Menashe caused a lot of idol worship. His father Chizkiyah saw, with Ruach Hakodesh , how bad he would be, and therefore he didn't want to get married, until the prophet came and told him, " You're going to die because you don't want to have children." He married the prophet's daughter and ended up having this Menashe. Menashe was extremely wicked. He actually killed the prophet, his grandfather! Ultimately , Menashe was caught by the enemy and was placed in a copper cauldron. They were about to boil him alive. After calling out to all the idols and not getting answered, he said, " I remember my father taught me a pasuk, 'When you are in pain and all difficulties are happening, return to Hashem, your God.' I'm going to try it." So he called out to God, but the angels were blocking the windows of the heaven, so as not to allow his prayer to go up. They said, " God, this man put an idol into the Bet HaMikdash! We're going to let him return in Teshuva?!" But God, so of say, has to follow the rules. God made a tunnel under the Kiseh Hakavod and allowed his Teshuva to sneak in. Says the Slah, That is the Kiseh Rachamim/the chair of mercy. When God wants to, so to say, circumvent the angels and let somebody in, He lets them in . What exactly does that mean for us? How are we to understand this? The Yaarot Devash , Rav Yonatan Eybeshutz says something fascinating ( helek rishon derush 15) He says, Chizkiyah didn't want to get married because he saw Menashe with Ruach Hakodesh . But, he says, Ruach Hakodesh comes through angels, and therefore he was not privy to the final, happy ending of Menashe being chozer B'Teshuvah, because the angels didn't believe Menashe was deserving. Based on the angelic knowledge of the future, there was no hope for Menashe. That's why Chizkiyah didn't want to have children. But what he didn't know was that Menashe would be accepted by God. It says he ended up becoming the chief of all Baalei Teshuva in Gan Eden!. Chizikiyah didn't realize what he brought into the world through Menashe. Fascinating . What's even more fascinating is this chair of mercy, where God looks down and doesn't just see where we are right now, what we're fit for right now. God sees the Teshuva in the person, and the greatness of our future. This is different than what we learn from Yishmael, about the way you are now. He quotes a midrash in Bereshit 53,14 that says that when the angels wanted to kill Yishmael, Hashem said, I see what you don't see. I see the Yishmael is going to make Teshuva . The angels didn't know that. They knew his wickedness. They didn't know his Teshuvah. And that's the concept of the chatira . The Yaarot Dvash says, look at how much Hashem does for us, that there can be someone that even the angels don't see any hope for, and Hashem, with His mercy, opens a special door for him. He says, This is one of the miracles that God does for us, and quotes the Pasuk in Tehilim, Even Maasu HaBonim Hayeta L'Rosh Pinah/The rock that the builders despised becomes great, and says it refers to Baalei Teshuva. The angels despised him, yet he became the chief, even greater than Sadikim. That is M'Et Hashem Hayta Zot/This is a miracle of God . It's one of the wonders that God does for us, that He's able to see what's going to happen and accept even the most distant person in Teshuva , which is aroused at the time of the shofar. So, whoever you are and whatever you are, that's what happens at the time of Shofar .

My father was a schoolteacher, and summertime meant extended driving trips. We began at home in Chicago and drove to South Dakota and Mount Rushmore — across to Cheyenne- up to Yellowstone - down through the Rockies — and into Silverton, where we would camp for an extended time.In the months leading up to those trips, Dad would always post a large map of the United States on our refrigerator door. This map contained the grand view of the entire journey. For on it, with indelible ink, Dad would trace our path. However, he never traced it out all at once. You see, all seven of us kids would set aside money from our newspaper routes in an effort to help pay for the gasoline for the trip. So, as the funds for gas accumulated, the indelible ink indicating how far we could go extended across the map. It was always a great day when the ink made its way back to the beginning, because we knew then that we had collected enough money to pay for the entire trip.A funny thing, though: We never brought this map on the trip. The "grand view map" was too general. For the actual trip we needed a more detailed map, so we took along our Rand McNally Road Atlas, complete with all fifty states! I loved that map because it contained inset maps of large cities and all kinds of information the refrigerator map didn't have. The creation account in Genesis 1, like the map on my family's refrigerator, is the grand view in which mankind is seen as the pinnacle, but only within the context of all of creation.Chapter 2, on the other hand, is like one page of the Rand McNally map, which shows in full detail what the pinnacle (mankind) is really like.In one breath, chapter 1 spoke of the creation of man in the image of God as male and female. Now, however, beginning in2:4, the writer focuses our attention specifically on humankind. He wants us to camp here for an extended time. This is exciting, because chapter 2 deals directly with one of life's big questions: "Who are we, really?"" -David Helms, pp. 49-50Imagine you are a cartoon. You live in a 2D world--height and width. Let's say you can think like you do now. You have the same questions about life and eternity. You live in a animated world that is real. Eventually, you realize that there's order in your cartoon world. You see clues in the consistency of things, the order of things, the purposefulness of things and the beauty of things. This leads to more questions. Eventually, the cartoonist begins to reveal more to you through other characters. And at some point you realize that there is a creator of the cartoon world in which you live. In fact, the great cartoonist exists and created you on purpose for a purpose. If you found yourself in this situation, how would you respond? How would you feel about the great cartoonist? Would you be grateful that he created you when he didn't to? Or would you complain about he color of your costume? Would you be in awe that there exists a being so powerful that at the stroke of a pen, he could create life? Or would you complain about the story plot of your life? My hope is that as we listen to God through His Story in Genesis, we will wrestle with these questions in 3D+. Because this is like the world in which we live. There's a creator and he is God. His name is Jesus and he created you on purpose for a purpose. My hope is that you will come to understand and believe this to the degree that it moves you to gratitude and worship. Not just when we sing a song but 24//7. That it will shape the way that you live and the choices that you make and the narratives you choose to believe and the people you hang out with. Let's look at Genesis and ask ourselves 2 questions as we do:God, what are you saying to me today?God, what do you want me to do about what you're saying to me today?CONTEXTGenesis (beginning) is a book of beginnings. It's primeval history (universal world history) of the world (universe) made up of 5 stories with the same structure. (1-11)The FallCainSons of God marrying daughters of manThe FloodTower of BabelThey all follow this 4-fold pattern:Sin: the sin is describedSpeech: There is a speech by God announcing the penalty for the sinGrace: God brings grace to the situation to ease the misery due to sinPunishment: God punishes the sinPatriarchal history (12-50) or the history of Israel's founding fathers. It continues to reveal the many graces of God based on the gracious promise God made to and through Abraham in Genesis 12:3."Genesis is about grace." Sin, then grace. Sin, then grace.Grace is often times defined as an acronymGod's RichesAtChrist'sExpenseGrace is undeserved favor.Genesis is also about God's fidelity. God is faithful even when we're not. God keeps his promises even when the people the promises are for threaten the fulfillment of the promises."If we are faithless, he remains faithful--for he cannot deny himself." 2 Timothy 2:13People are wonderful and awful. The bulk of Genesis affirms our terrible sinfulness. Therefore, salvation had to come by faith (we certainly didn't deserve it or could earn it)Genesis 15:6 Moses writes, "Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.""There's only one way fallen humanity can be saved--the Genesis way--by faith. There has never been another way." -HughesWho wrote Genesis? According the Old and New Testaments, Moses c. 15th century BC. Jesus confirms this.Kind of cool: Genesis 1:1 is 7 words. 1:2 is 14 words. And the chapter ends with 3 verses of 7 Hebrew words (21 words).SERMON I. Primeval history (1-11)--God and the worldA. God and the beginningBereshith Elohim Bara is the Hebrew for this phrase, "In the beginning God...""In the beginning" of our universe - Hebrew bereshith God was there in the beginning before time and space existed. The beginning of universal history. He has always existed. He never began or was born.He will always exist. He lives forever.Elohim = God or gods; not plural for number here but intensity i.e. Most God you can getGenesis, the OT, and the Bible are all about God, his creation and his glory. The Bible assumes God's existence. Never debates it. Says the fool believes there is no God in Proverbs. It's one thing to doubt or question whether he exists or notIt's another to ignore the many evidences of his existence and conclude he doesn't exist; too much evidence from natureB. God and the universe (1:1): "God created the heavens and the earth.""God created the heavens..."Heavens = skiesHeaven 1: as we think about itSpaceOur sky as we think about itEarth = land (they would have understood it as the ground)We see from the rest of the chapter that God spoke things into existence. God created out of love for us and his sonUs - we now existHim - he now has a bride (not that he needed one)God created from nothing - Hebrew bara; this reminds me of an old joke:An atheist scientist came to God and said, “We've figured out how to make a man without you.” God said, “OK, let me see you do it.” So the atheist bent down to the ground and scooped up a handful. But God stopped him and said, “Oh, no you don't. Get your own dirt!”Primary or absolute creation is from nothing (what only God can do)Secondary or relative creation is from something (what we can do)God or Elohim (gods in Hebrew) is plural as a literary device to intensify the word. This isn't just a god. This is the God of gods. God is the point of the Bible. God is pre-existent. He existed before our universe did because he's eternal and uncreated. Before time and space, there was God.God is powerful. He created out of nothing.God is personal. He personally spoke creation into existence. He personally walked in the garden with Adam.C. God and the earth (1:2): "Now the earth (land) was formless (wild) and empty (waste), darkness was over the surface of the deep (abyss = chaotic darkness), and the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) was hovering (overshadowing) over the waters."The world starts out as a dark, chaotic, wild wasteland without form. God will form it, frame it, fill it and then finish it. Here he begins to form it through his Spirit. The triune God is at work here.Have you ever been at sea, miles out, at night? Maybe on a cruise ship or a deep sea fishing trip so far out that you can't see any lights or land? It's creepy and a little scary. God creates/works as a triune GodFather--Genesis 1:1; 26Son--John 1:1-2; Gen 1:26Holy Spirit--Genesis 1:2; 26The Spirit working chaos to order is seen when the Holy Spirit "overshadows" Mary making her pregnant with Jesus in the virgin birth (new creation). The Holy Spirit comes down like a dove onto Jesus at his baptism in the waters (symbolizing chaos and judgment). The Spirit raises Jesus from the dead, bringing him back to life. (Bethencourt) This is the first of many examples of the Holy Spirit doing this kind of work.II. Patriarchal history (12-50)--God and Abraham's familyCONCLUSIONBottom line: The universe begins with God speaking it into existence from nothing.God deserves our worship. Therefore, we should worship him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. God creates out of love. Love creates and connects relationally.God wants us to worship him with our lips and our lives. (Hebrews 13:15-16)Invitation““Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”” Acts 2:36-39 NIVBottom line: What is God saying to me right now? What am I going to do about it? Write this down on a sheet of paper. What I hear you saying, Lord, is ___________________.[my name] is going to believe/do __________________________________________________ as a result. Finally, share this with your Home or Mission group this week when you gather as a testimony about what God is doing in your life. You don't have to get too specific to give him praise.PrayNOTESTruths to noteGod existed and exists eternallyGod exists in plural unity as the Holy TrinityGod was in the beginningGod was before anything existed in our universe and the universe itselfGod created everything that exists in the universe and the universe itselfGod creates something from nothing Latin ex nihiloAn atheist scientist came to God and said, “We've figured out how to make a man without you.” God said, “OK, let me see you do it.” So the atheist bent down to the ground and scooped up a handful. But God stopped him and said, “Oh, no you don't. Get your own dirt!”God creates with words. He spoke creation into existence. His words still have power.God creates purposefully for his glory and our good.God starts with light to display his creation and provide an essential ingredient for life.God only creates things that are good. In Joshua 22:21-29, the two and a half tribes that had chosen their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan were confronted by the ten tribes because of the great altar they built. These borderline tribes answered the accusations against them by making excuses and blaming God and others for their bad choices and sins. Notice the first things they did was invoke the name of the Lord six times as they replied to the charges; and in so doing, they used the three fundamental names for the Lord: "El [the Mighty One], Elohim [God], Jehovah [the Lord]." They were claiming that their intentions were pure and that the Lord knew their hearts. Of course, the fact that the Lord knows our hearts, and that we've taken an oath, is no guarantee that our actions are right, because we don't know our own hearts (Jer. 17:9). All sorts of questionable activities can be shielded by, "But the Lord knows my heart!" When a whole nation misinterprets what is supposed to be a good deed, and it brings them to the brink of war, then there must be something wrong with that deed. The accused tribes made it clear that they weren't setting up a rival religion because the altar they built wasn't for sacrifices. Rather, they were putting up a witness that would remind the tribes west of the Jordan that Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh were a part of the Jewish nation. But what is interesting is that these “borderline” tribes pointed to the children as their concern. But it wasn't their children who would ask, "What have we to do with the Lord God of Israel?" No, their children would be provoked by the children of the tribes in Canaan! Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh were not even living in the land of God's choice, yet they feared lest the children across the river would lead their children astray! It is obvious to us that the danger was just the opposite. Not only did the “borderline” tribes accuse their fellow Jews of having worldly children, but they even accused God of creating the problem in the first place! "For the Lord has made the Jordan a border between you and us" (Josh. 22:25). No! They were the ones who had made the Jordan River the dividing line! In choosing to live east of the Jordan, the two and a half tribes separated themselves from their own people and from the land God had given to all of them. They put their cattle ahead of their children and their fellow Jews, but they blamed God and the other tribes for the problem that they created. They also claimed that this great pile of stones was a “witness altar” to the unity of the nation and to their obedience. But was it? No, it was a witness to expediency, the wisdom of man in trying to enjoy "the best of both worlds." The two and a half tribes talked piously about their children, but it was their wealth that really motivated their decision to live east of the Jordan. Somewhere near this "witness altar" were the twelve stones that the men had carried from the midst of the Jordan River (4:20-24). It reminded the Jews that they had crossed the river and buried their past forever. But Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh had crossed the river and gone back again. Their "altar" contradicted the altar that Joshua had erected to the glory of God. "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God" (Col. 3:1). Like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, when confronted by God for their disobedience, they made excuses and ultimately blamed God for their sin and bad choices. I'm afraid that too many of us today as believers are doing the same thing. May the LORD help us to simply confess our sin and ask forgiveness. 1 John 1:6-10 describes exactly what we are doing when we claim to be right instead of acknowledging our sin and asking forgiveness. God bless!

Get ready for an exciting message this weekend on The Chosen People with Mitch Glaser and Robert Walter. Listen as our hosts dive deep into history to explore the details behind God's historical Hebrew name: Elohim (God). Then, keep listening to hear Randy Newman's inspiring story of faith!
Elohim is the Hebrew word used over 2500 times to describe the sovereign God of creation. It implies the all-powerful nature of God, who is self-existing outside of time and space. Elohim implies a plurality of majesty, which is the triune nature of God. It does not imply that there are multiple gods, but one God, with a triune Godhead: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. All of creation reflects the image of the triune nature of Elohim. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…”—Romans 1:20 Elohim made Adam's race to bear His triune image. He has redeemed us to have a relationship with Him. Join Pastor Phil as he unpacks the triune nature of Elohim and how we can be His image-bearers on earth! The names Yahweh (LORD) and Elohim (God) often occur with tsebaoth “army” or “host” meaning “the LORD of armies/hosts” [240x in the OT]...the God who commands armies and fights for His people! In today's reading, young David drew near to the champion Goliath with a shepherd's sling and 5 stones (from a wadi). The Philistine ridiculed David and said he'd make pieces of him. David replied, “You come to me with sword and spear and javelin; I come to you in the name of the LORD of Hosts (Yahweh Tsebaoth), the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This very day the LORD will deliver you into my hand….” David didn't face Goliath with the latest technology or newest weapon; God's name was enough. Yahweh Tsebaoth is a title of great power. In Scripture, God's “hosts/armies” include the armies of Israel (here); heavenly bodies/luminaries (Dt. 4:19; Isa 40:26); angelic beings (Josh 5:14); and the created order (Gen 2:1) – all these worship the LORD and do His bidding. Yahweh Tsebaoth affirms His universal rulership that encompasses every force or army: heavenly, cosmic, and earthly. When captured in all of its thrust, Yahweh Tsebaoth is a most exalted title…the supreme and truly glorious King (Ps 24:9ff)! One day all kingdoms and nations will publicly acknowledge His complete authority, lordship, and reign.

Shalom be upon you, my dear listeners! In this second installment of Episode XIX, I will tell you about the MOST interesting Bible study in the passage of Genesis 18:22-33 that I had with one of my best friends in life and brother in Messiah Yeshua of 17 years and counting - LesPaul Stewart of Greeley, CO. Together we stumbled upon a mystery represented in the actual typeface of the text itself, pertaining specifically to the words 'ADONAI', 'Adonai', 'YHVH (יהוה) and ELOHIM (God). This discovery and the conclusions LesPaul & I have come to in reference to the Tri-Unity of YHVH ELOHIM יהוה אלוהים - Abbah Father, The Holy One of Israel, The Son of YHVH & Rüakh HaKodesh The Holy Spirit, are all here in this (hopefully) enlightening episode! Also, there's a small surprise at the very end! I do hope and pray that this episode blesses you and makes Messiah Yeshua even more tangible in your lives, dear friends, brothers & sisters! Enjoy!

Rabbi Steve Berkson addresses the topic of “Yeshua knows our thoughts and our struggle with authority”. We begin with the event where Yeshua healed a person by simply saying “Your sins be forgiven you”, which caused an uproar with the religious leaders of the time, accusing Yeshua of blasphemy. They could not accept the authority of Yeshua as Messiah because of their predisposed thinking of who the Messiah should be. Yeshua didn't fit their paradigm. What does “blasphemy” mean? Can just anyone commit “blasphemy”? What is meant by “the reign (kingdom) of Elohim (God) has come upon you”? Do you struggle with recognizing the authority of those you interact with? Have you found the teacher or leader who is meant for you? He may not be according to your paradigm, but this is the reason you are here–to figure out whose authority you are under, your's?, haSatan's?, Yahweh's?. Who do you think is in charge? This teaching is full of practical application material that will definitely keep you on the path to the Kingdom. Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Todays question Sydekie during one of his bible studies and he asked: How does the idea of Elohim one God match with John 1:1 Bereshith bara Elohim eth hashmayim v'eth ha'aretz. In the beginning "God" created the heavens and the earth En arche en ho Logos, kai ho Logos en pros ton Theon, Kai Theos en ho Logos. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word. Elohim (God, gods, divine ones, rulers) is a plural of eloah, which translates as “God”. And in context with the Creator in Gen 1:1, it has been assumed the ancient Israelites used this plural title with a singular verb, because of God's majesty. So though they believe there is one God, He is not just The God, but He is God of the God's. So the plurality was to represent His majesty. We see in many cultures this practice still happening today. So when we see this title of God, represented as a singular, even though grammatically its a plural, one must begin to question how to interpret John 1:1. For in John 1:1, we can distinctly see two separate beings, the Logos (a word (as embodying an idea), a statement, a speech), and the Theos (God, a god). What is fascinating is that theos is a title itself, not a name, which is the same for the term elohim. Elohim and Theos are titles for a specific being, or person, and in the context of these two verses, Gen 1:1 & John 1:1, it is the title of the one who is present in the beginning, at our first cause. When we can distinguish the fact that these are titles, then one can see a little more in the text. Genesis 1:1 is a statement of what is our first cause, and by whom did it happen. And who is “the Creator” in Genesis 1:1, something that goes by the title of God (Elohim). In John 1:1 we see there was another being, named "The Word (Logos)", present at the first cause, and this being was not only present at the first cause, but they were present with the one who has the title of God. And to add more depth to it, the Word is also known to be one with God, and is God Himself. Therefore, what we can see is Genesis 1:1 was a sum of the entire creation, being attributed to the one that bears the title God. And by the time we get to John 1:1, John begins to deepen our understanding of what God is, which is something that consist of more than one being, yet they are all in unison. Short little note: Genesis 2:4 is the first time we see God being called by a name, YHWH; and this was expressing the relationship between God the Creator and man. They were to be friends, and know each others names. But by the time of the New Testament era,we are told of another who has the saving power of YHWH, because we see in Acts 4:12, “there is no other name by which man can be saved”, referring to Yeshua, the Logos. And within the Scriptures we see Yeshua allude Himself to being the "I Am" of old (John 8:58), therefore making himself equal with YHWH, God the Father. But Philippians 2:5-11, let us know that Yeshua was equal with the Father, but laid aside His divinity to carry out His earthly ministry. And Rev 1:8 & 22:13, allows us to see that Yeshua is also the one "who was, is, and yet to be", which is another title that belongs to Elohim. How does the idea of Elohim one God match with John 1:1 Fairly easy, when you recognize that John 1:1 is getting deeper into understanding what constitutes the term and personhood of God. But in this instance, John begins to focus more on one person of the God head, rather than another. P.S. The Idea of God being a singular one, comes a little later in time, which we can examine another day. As well as, if it weren't for Yeshua, we would have never learned about the ministry of the third person in the Godhead, which is the Ruach Ha Qodesh, the Holy Spirit, but that's another conversation
