Why does God need a name in the first place? John Mark argues that it's because there are many "gods". He surveys scripture passages relating to gods and demonic beings, not only warning us that they are real and should never be worshipped, but that Yahweh is the one true creator God and is higher than them all. Key Scripture Passages: Exodus 34v6-7, Exodus 12v12, Exodus 15v11, Exodus 20v2-4, Psalm 82, Mark 5v1-13, Ephesians 6v10-12This podcast and its episodes are paid for by The Circle, our community of monthly givers. Welcome to our special Musaf Rosh Hashanah Pesukim series. We're now in the fourth pasuk of Shofarot. As we discussed, the first three pesukim of Shofarot refer to the shofar of Har Sinai. The next three refer to our shofar, that we blow on Rosh Hashanah, and the last three refer to the shofar of the times of Mashiach. Our pasuk today is from Tehilim 47,6 עָלָ֣ה אֱ֭לֹהִים בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה בְּק֣וֹל שׁוֹפָֽר׃ Hashem/Elokim (in His trait of justice) goes up in the Teruah, Hashem (with His trait of mercy) b'kol shofar. The Teruah , which is a broken blast of the shofar, refers to Hashem's justice, and that's why the term Elohim , which is God's justice, is used, whereas Shofar refers to the straight sound of the Tekiyah , and that refers to Hashem's trait of mercy. This is quoted by the Maharsha in Rosh Hashanah 32B and indicated in a famous Midrash brought down the Pisikta Rabbati parashat מ - David Hamelech tells us there is no greater force than the shofar that removes God's trait of justice and brings Him close to mercy. On Rosh Hashanah God sits down on the chair of justice and when we blow the shofar, God switches from His justice to His mercy. That's why it starts off, Elohim - God plans on going up as an Elohim , and the power of the shofar turns Him into Hashem . So God switches from His chair of justice to His chair of mercy. The Slah, also known as the Noda BiYehuda (his real name was Rabbi Yehuda Landau), was one of the Gedolim of a few hundred years ago. In his sefer on Hagigah 14A, he shares something fascinating: What are these two chairs? What's this chair of mercy? Does Hashem have a separate mercy chair? He cites the Yalkut Shimoni in Malachim 2,46 which talks about the wicked king Menashe. Menashe caused a lot of idol worship. His father Chizkiyah saw, with Ruach Hakodesh , how bad he would be, and therefore he didn't want to get married, until the prophet came and told him, " You're going to die because you don't want to have children." He married the prophet's daughter and ended up having this Menashe. Menashe was extremely wicked. He actually killed the prophet, his grandfather! Ultimately , Menashe was caught by the enemy and was placed in a copper cauldron. They were about to boil him alive. After calling out to all the idols and not getting answered, he said, " I remember my father taught me a pasuk, 'When you are in pain and all difficulties are happening, return to Hashem, your God.' I'm going to try it." So he called out to God, but the angels were blocking the windows of the heaven, so as not to allow his prayer to go up. They said, " God, this man put an idol into the Bet HaMikdash! We're going to let him return in Teshuva?!" But God, so of say, has to follow the rules. God made a tunnel under the Kiseh Hakavod and allowed his Teshuva to sneak in. Says the Slah, That is the Kiseh Rachamim/the chair of mercy. When God wants to, so to say, circumvent the angels and let somebody in, He lets them in . What exactly does that mean for us? How are we to understand this? The Yaarot Devash , Rav Yonatan Eybeshutz says something fascinating ( helek rishon derush 15) He says, Chizkiyah didn't want to get married because he saw Menashe with Ruach Hakodesh . But, he says, Ruach Hakodesh comes through angels, and therefore he was not privy to the final, happy ending of Menashe being chozer B'Teshuvah, because the angels didn't believe Menashe was deserving. Based on the angelic knowledge of the future, there was no hope for Menashe. That's why Chizkiyah didn't want to have children. But what he didn't know was that Menashe would be accepted by God. It says he ended up becoming the chief of all Baalei Teshuva in Gan Eden!. Chizikiyah didn't realize what he brought into the world through Menashe. Fascinating . What's even more fascinating is this chair of mercy, where God looks down and doesn't just see where we are right now, what we're fit for right now. God sees the Teshuva in the person, and the greatness of our future. This is different than what we learn from Yishmael, about the way you are now. He quotes a midrash in Bereshit 53,14 that says that when the angels wanted to kill Yishmael, Hashem said, I see what you don't see. I see the Yishmael is going to make Teshuva . The angels didn't know that. They knew his wickedness. They didn't know his Teshuvah. And that's the concept of the chatira . The Yaarot Dvash says, look at how much Hashem does for us, that there can be someone that even the angels don't see any hope for, and Hashem, with His mercy, opens a special door for him. He says, This is one of the miracles that God does for us, and quotes the Pasuk in Tehilim, Even Maasu HaBonim Hayeta L'Rosh Pinah/The rock that the builders despised becomes great, and says it refers to Baalei Teshuva. The angels despised him, yet he became the chief, even greater than Sadikim. That is M'Et Hashem Hayta Zot/This is a miracle of God . It's one of the wonders that God does for us, that He's able to see what's going to happen and accept even the most distant person in Teshuva , which is aroused at the time of the shofar. So, whoever you are and whatever you are, that's what happens at the time of Shofar .

My father was a schoolteacher, and summertime meant extended driving trips. We began at home in Chicago and drove to South Dakota and Mount Rushmore — across to Cheyenne- up to Yellowstone - down through the Rockies — and into Silverton, where we would camp for an extended time.In the months leading up to those trips, Dad would always post a large map of the United States on our refrigerator door. This map contained the grand view of the entire journey. For on it, with indelible ink, Dad would trace our path. However, he never traced it out all at once. You see, all seven of us kids would set aside money from our newspaper routes in an effort to help pay for the gasoline for the trip. So, as the funds for gas accumulated, the indelible ink indicating how far we could go extended across the map. It was always a great day when the ink made its way back to the beginning, because we knew then that we had collected enough money to pay for the entire trip.A funny thing, though: We never brought this map on the trip. The "grand view map" was too general. For the actual trip we needed a more detailed map, so we took along our Rand McNally Road Atlas, complete with all fifty states! I loved that map because it contained inset maps of large cities and all kinds of information the refrigerator map didn't have. The creation account in Genesis 1, like the map on my family's refrigerator, is the grand view in which mankind is seen as the pinnacle, but only within the context of all of creation.Chapter 2, on the other hand, is like one page of the Rand McNally map, which shows in full detail what the pinnacle (mankind) is really like.In one breath, chapter 1 spoke of the creation of man in the image of God as male and female. Now, however, beginning in2:4, the writer focuses our attention specifically on humankind. He wants us to camp here for an extended time. This is exciting, because chapter 2 deals directly with one of life's big questions: "Who are we, really?"" -David Helms, pp. 49-50Imagine you are a cartoon. You live in a 2D world--height and width. Let's say you can think like you do now. You have the same questions about life and eternity. You live in a animated world that is real. Eventually, you realize that there's order in your cartoon world. You see clues in the consistency of things, the order of things, the purposefulness of things and the beauty of things. This leads to more questions. Eventually, the cartoonist begins to reveal more to you through other characters. And at some point you realize that there is a creator of the cartoon world in which you live. In fact, the great cartoonist exists and created you on purpose for a purpose. If you found yourself in this situation, how would you respond? How would you feel about the great cartoonist? Would you be grateful that he created you when he didn't to? Or would you complain about he color of your costume? Would you be in awe that there exists a being so powerful that at the stroke of a pen, he could create life? Or would you complain about the story plot of your life? My hope is that as we listen to God through His Story in Genesis, we will wrestle with these questions in 3D+. Because this is like the world in which we live. There's a creator and he is God. His name is Jesus and he created you on purpose for a purpose. My hope is that you will come to understand and believe this to the degree that it moves you to gratitude and worship. Not just when we sing a song but 24//7. That it will shape the way that you live and the choices that you make and the narratives you choose to believe and the people you hang out with. Let's look at Genesis and ask ourselves 2 questions as we do:God, what are you saying to me today?God, what do you want me to do about what you're saying to me today?CONTEXTGenesis (beginning) is a book of beginnings. It's primeval history (universal world history) of the world (universe) made up of 5 stories with the same structure. (1-11)The FallCainSons of God marrying daughters of manThe FloodTower of BabelThey all follow this 4-fold pattern:Sin: the sin is describedSpeech: There is a speech by God announcing the penalty for the sinGrace: God brings grace to the situation to ease the misery due to sinPunishment: God punishes the sinPatriarchal history (12-50) or the history of Israel's founding fathers. It continues to reveal the many graces of God based on the gracious promise God made to and through Abraham in Genesis 12:3."Genesis is about grace." Sin, then grace. Sin, then grace.Grace is often times defined as an acronymGod's RichesAtChrist'sExpenseGrace is undeserved favor.Genesis is also about God's fidelity. God is faithful even when we're not. God keeps his promises even when the people the promises are for threaten the fulfillment of the promises."If we are faithless, he remains faithful--for he cannot deny himself." 2 Timothy 2:13People are wonderful and awful. The bulk of Genesis affirms our terrible sinfulness. Therefore, salvation had to come by faith (we certainly didn't deserve it or could earn it)Genesis 15:6 Moses writes, "Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.""There's only one way fallen humanity can be saved--the Genesis way--by faith. There has never been another way." -HughesWho wrote Genesis? According the Old and New Testaments, Moses c. 15th century BC. Jesus confirms this.Kind of cool: Genesis 1:1 is 7 words. 1:2 is 14 words. And the chapter ends with 3 verses of 7 Hebrew words (21 words).SERMON I. Primeval history (1-11)--God and the worldA. God and the beginningBereshith Elohim Bara is the Hebrew for this phrase, "In the beginning God...""In the beginning" of our universe - Hebrew bereshith God was there in the beginning before time and space existed. The beginning of universal history. He has always existed. He never began or was born.He will always exist. He lives forever.Elohim = God or gods; not plural for number here but intensity i.e. Most God you can getGenesis, the OT, and the Bible are all about God, his creation and his glory. The Bible assumes God's existence. Never debates it. Says the fool believes there is no God in Proverbs. It's one thing to doubt or question whether he exists or notIt's another to ignore the many evidences of his existence and conclude he doesn't exist; too much evidence from natureB. God and the universe (1:1): "God created the heavens and the earth.""God created the heavens..."Heavens = skiesHeaven 1: as we think about itSpaceOur sky as we think about itEarth = land (they would have understood it as the ground)We see from the rest of the chapter that God spoke things into existence. God created out of love for us and his sonUs - we now existHim - he now has a bride (not that he needed one)God created from nothing - Hebrew bara; this reminds me of an old joke:An atheist scientist came to God and said, “We've figured out how to make a man without you.” God said, “OK, let me see you do it.” So the atheist bent down to the ground and scooped up a handful. But God stopped him and said, “Oh, no you don't. Get your own dirt!”Primary or absolute creation is from nothing (what only God can do)Secondary or relative creation is from something (what we can do)God or Elohim (gods in Hebrew) is plural as a literary device to intensify the word. This isn't just a god. This is the God of gods. God is the point of the Bible. God is pre-existent. He existed before our universe did because he's eternal and uncreated. Before time and space, there was God.God is powerful. He created out of nothing.God is personal. He personally spoke creation into existence. He personally walked in the garden with Adam.C. God and the earth (1:2): "Now the earth (land) was formless (wild) and empty (waste), darkness was over the surface of the deep (abyss = chaotic darkness), and the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) was hovering (overshadowing) over the waters."The world starts out as a dark, chaotic, wild wasteland without form. God will form it, frame it, fill it and then finish it. Here he begins to form it through his Spirit. The triune God is at work here.Have you ever been at sea, miles out, at night? Maybe on a cruise ship or a deep sea fishing trip so far out that you can't see any lights or land? It's creepy and a little scary. God creates/works as a triune GodFather--Genesis 1:1; 26Son--John 1:1-2; Gen 1:26Holy Spirit--Genesis 1:2; 26The Spirit working chaos to order is seen when the Holy Spirit "overshadows" Mary making her pregnant with Jesus in the virgin birth (new creation). The Holy Spirit comes down like a dove onto Jesus at his baptism in the waters (symbolizing chaos and judgment). The Spirit raises Jesus from the dead, bringing him back to life. (Bethencourt) This is the first of many examples of the Holy Spirit doing this kind of work.II. Patriarchal history (12-50)--God and Abraham's familyCONCLUSIONBottom line: The universe begins with God speaking it into existence from nothing.God deserves our worship. Therefore, we should worship him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. God creates out of love. Love creates and connects relationally.God wants us to worship him with our lips and our lives. (Hebrews 13:15-16)Invitation““Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭36‬-‭39‬ ‭NIV‬‬Bottom line: What is God saying to me right now? What am I going to do about it? Write this down on a sheet of paper. What I hear you saying, Lord, is ___________________.[my name] is going to believe/do __________________________________________________ as a result. Finally, share this with your Home or Mission group this week when you gather as a testimony about what God is doing in your life. In Joshua 22:21-29, the two and a half tribes that had chosen their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan were confronted by the ten tribes because of the great altar they built. These borderline tribes answered the accusations against them by making excuses and blaming God and others for their bad choices and sins. Notice the first things they did was invoke the name of the Lord six times as they replied to the charges; and in so doing, they used the three fundamental names for the Lord: "El [the Mighty One], Elohim [God], Jehovah [the Lord]." They were claiming that their intentions were pure and that the Lord knew their hearts.   Of course, the fact that the Lord knows our hearts, and that we've taken an oath, is no guarantee that our actions are right, because we don't know our own hearts (Jer. 17:9). All sorts of questionable activities can be shielded by, "But the Lord knows my heart!" When a whole nation misinterprets what is supposed to be a good deed, and it brings them to the brink of war, then there must be something wrong with that deed.   The accused tribes made it clear that they weren't setting up a rival religion because the altar they built wasn't for sacrifices. Rather, they were putting up a witness that would remind the tribes west of the Jordan that Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh were a part of the Jewish nation. But what is interesting is that these “borderline” tribes pointed to the children as their concern. But it wasn't their children who would ask, "What have we to do with the Lord God of Israel?" No, their children would be provoked by the children of the tribes in Canaan! Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh were not even living in the land of God's choice, yet they feared lest the children across the river would lead their children astray! It is obvious to us that the danger was just the opposite.   Not only did the “borderline” tribes accuse their fellow Jews of having worldly children, but they even accused God of creating the problem in the first place! "For the Lord has made the Jordan a border between you and us" (Josh. 22:25). No! They were the ones who had made the Jordan River the dividing line! In choosing to live east of the Jordan, the two and a half tribes separated themselves from their own people and from the land God had given to all of them. They put their cattle ahead of their children and their fellow Jews, but they blamed God and the other tribes for the problem that they created.   They also claimed that this great pile of stones was a “witness altar” to the unity of the nation and to their obedience. But was it? No, it was a witness to expediency, the wisdom of man in trying to enjoy "the best of both worlds." The two and a half tribes talked piously about their children, but it was their wealth that really motivated their decision to live east of the Jordan.   Somewhere near this "witness altar" were the twelve stones that the men had carried from the midst of the Jordan River (4:20-24). It reminded the Jews that they had crossed the river and buried their past forever. But  Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh had crossed the river and gone back again. Their "altar" contradicted the altar that Joshua had erected to the glory of God. "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God" (Col. 3:1).   Like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, when confronted by God for their disobedience, they made excuses and ultimately blamed God for their sin and bad choices. I'm afraid that too many of us today as believers are doing the same thing.   May the LORD help us to simply confess our sin and ask forgiveness. 1 John 1:6-10 describes exactly what we are doing when we claim to be right instead of acknowledging our sin and asking forgiveness.   God bless!

Elohim is the Hebrew word used over 2500 times to describe the sovereign God of creation. It implies the all-powerful nature of God, who is self-existing outside of time and space. Elohim implies a plurality of majesty, which is the triune nature of God. It does not imply that there are multiple gods, but one God, with a triune Godhead: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. All of creation reflects the image of the triune nature of Elohim. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…”—Romans 1:20 Elohim made Adam's race to bear His triune image. He has redeemed us to have a relationship with Him. Join Pastor Phil as he unpacks the triune nature of Elohim and how we can be His image-bearers on earth! The names Yahweh (LORD) and Elohim (God) often occur with tsebaoth “army” or “host” meaning “the LORD of armies/hosts” [240x in the OT]...the God who commands armies and fights for His people! In today's reading, young David drew near to the champion Goliath with a shepherd's sling and 5 stones (from a wadi). The Philistine ridiculed David and said he'd make pieces of him. David replied, “You come to me with sword and spear and javelin; I come to you in the name of the LORD of Hosts (Yahweh Tsebaoth), the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This very day the LORD will deliver you into my hand….” David didn't face Goliath with the latest technology or newest weapon; God's name was enough. Yahweh Tsebaoth is a title of great power. In Scripture, God's “hosts/armies” include the armies of Israel (here); heavenly bodies/luminaries (Dt. 4:19; Isa 40:26); angelic beings (Josh 5:14); and the created order (Gen 2:1) – all these worship the LORD and do His bidding. Yahweh Tsebaoth affirms His universal rulership that encompasses every force or army: heavenly, cosmic, and earthly. When captured in all of its thrust, Yahweh Tsebaoth is a most exalted title…the supreme and truly glorious King (Ps 24:9ff)! One day all kingdoms and nations will publicly acknowledge His complete authority, lordship, and reign.

Shalom be upon you, my dear listeners! In this second installment of Episode XIX, I will tell you about the MOST interesting Bible study in the passage of Genesis 18:22-33 that I had with one of my best friends in life and brother in Messiah Yeshua of 17 years and counting - LesPaul Stewart of Greeley, CO. Together we stumbled upon a mystery represented in the actual typeface of the text itself, pertaining specifically to the words 'ADONAI', 'Adonai', 'YHVH (יהוה) and ELOHIM (God). This discovery and the conclusions LesPaul & I have come to in reference to the Tri-Unity of YHVH ELOHIM יהוה אלוהים - Abbah Father, The Holy One of Israel, The Son of YHVH & Rüakh HaKodesh The Holy Spirit, are all here in this (hopefully) enlightening episode! Also, there's a small surprise at the very end! I do hope and pray that this episode blesses you and makes Messiah Yeshua even more tangible in your lives, dear friends, brothers & sisters! Enjoy!

Rabbi Steve Berkson addresses the topic of “Yeshua knows our thoughts and our struggle with authority”. We begin with the event where Yeshua healed a person by simply saying “Your sins be forgiven you”, which caused an uproar with the religious leaders of the time, accusing Yeshua of blasphemy. They could not accept the authority of Yeshua as Messiah because of their predisposed thinking of who the Messiah should be. Yeshua didn't fit their paradigm. What does “blasphemy” mean? Can just anyone commit “blasphemy”? What is meant by “the reign (kingdom) of Elohim (God) has come upon you”? Do you struggle with recognizing the authority of those you interact with? Have you found the teacher or leader who is meant for you? He may not be according to your paradigm, but this is the reason you are here–to figure out whose authority you are under, your's?, haSatan's?, Yahweh's?. Who do you think is in charge? This teaching is full of practical application material that will definitely keep you on the path to the Kingdom. Don't miss out on new teachings every week. Q&A Kindling Questions 8: How does the idea of Gen 1:1, Elohim being one God, match with John 1:1

The Tinder Bundle

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 24, 2021 19:22

Todays question Sydekie during one of his bible studies and he asked: How does the idea of Elohim one God match with John 1:1 Bereshith bara Elohim eth hashmayim v'eth ha'aretz. In the beginning "God" created the heavens and the earth En arche en ho Logos, kai ho Logos en pros ton Theon, Kai Theos en ho Logos. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word. Elohim (God, gods, divine ones, rulers) is a plural of eloah, which translates as “God”. And in context with the Creator in Gen 1:1, it has been assumed the ancient Israelites used this plural title with a singular verb, because of God's majesty. So though they believe there is one God, He is not just The God, but He is God of the God's. So the plurality was to represent His majesty. We see in many cultures this practice still happening today. So when we see this title of God, represented as a singular, even though grammatically its a plural, one must begin to question how to interpret John 1:1. For in John 1:1, we can distinctly see two separate beings, the Logos (a word (as embodying an idea), a statement, a speech), and the Theos (God, a god). What is fascinating is that theos is a title itself, not a name, which is the same for the term elohim. Elohim and Theos are titles for a specific being, or person, and in the context of these two verses, Gen 1:1 & John 1:1, it is the title of the one who is present in the beginning, at our first cause. When we can distinguish the fact that these are titles, then one can see a little more in the text. Genesis 1:1 is a statement of what is our first cause, and by whom did it happen. And who is “the Creator” in Genesis 1:1, something that goes by the title of God (Elohim). In John 1:1 we see there was another being, named "The Word (Logos)", present at the first cause, and this being was not only present at the first cause, but they were present with the one who has the title of God. And to add more depth to it, the Word is also known to be one with God, and is God Himself. Therefore, what we can see is Genesis 1:1 was a sum of the entire creation, being attributed to the one that bears the title God. And by the time we get to John 1:1, John begins to deepen our understanding of what God is, which is something that consist of more than one being, yet they are all in unison. Short little note: Genesis 2:4 is the first time we see God being called by a name, YHWH; and this was expressing the relationship between God the Creator and man. They were to be friends, and know each others names. But by the time of the New Testament era,we are told of another who has the saving power of YHWH, because we see in Acts 4:12, “there is no other name by which man can be saved”, referring to Yeshua, the Logos. And within the Scriptures we see Yeshua allude Himself to being the "I Am" of old (John 8:58), therefore making himself equal with YHWH, God the Father. But Philippians 2:5-11, let us know that Yeshua was equal with the Father, but laid aside His divinity to carry out His earthly ministry. And Rev 1:8 & 22:13, allows us to see that Yeshua is also the one "who was, is, and yet to be", which is another title that belongs to Elohim. How does the idea of Elohim one God match with John 1:1 Fairly easy, when you recognize that John 1:1 is getting deeper into understanding what constitutes the term and personhood of God. But in this instance, John begins to focus more on one person of the God head, rather than another. P.S. The Idea of God being a singular one, comes a little later in time, which we can examine another day. As well as, if it weren't for Yeshua, we would have never learned about the ministry of the third person in the Godhead, which is the Ruach Ha Qodesh, the Holy Spirit, but that's another conversation

HOW SHOULD WE UNDERSTAND THESE TWO BIBLICAL LAWS? ------------------------- Leviticus 19:18 - "...you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the YHVH." Matthew 22:35-40 - "Then one of them, a lawyer (scribe), asked him a question, testing him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”Yeshua said to him, “ ‘You shall love YHVH your Elohim (God) with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'  This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” -------------------------- Yeshua (Jesus) answered a question from one of the legal minds of his day, and with his response, he validated Leviticus 19:18 as the second most important commandment from the Word of God - "you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am YHVH."  But for me, this brings up another question: If I am to learn to love my neighbor, am I to first learn to love myself? This is a pretty tall order for some due to many personal and unresolved life issues! Conversely, if one is a narcissist, then true love for another is not even possible. So, for those who struggle with personal self-esteem issues, are we to then embrace the personality of an empath who learns to never say "NO" to the needs of another? In the Bible, "Love" expresses itself in a very specific way and we would do well to apply it and live it out, because biblical love, as it is written about in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Leviticus 19:18, and taught by Yeshua in Matthew 22:34-40 is not about loving yourself in order to love your neighbor. Biblical love is always about giving and passing it on from the source of all love that is given to us. However, before this can happen, we must receive YHVH's Love. Therefore, Yeshua taught (Matthew 10:8), "Freely you have received, freely give."  This is the basis from the Word of God for the biblical lesson of Leviticus 19:18 as I think it should be understood from Hebrew grammar and context: “I AM THE SOURCE OF YOUR LOVE TO/TOWARDS YOUR NEIGHBOUR, AS/LIKE HE (MESSIAH) IS UNTO YOU." Therefore, biblical love is NOT ABOUT first loving yourself; biblical love is about divine Love that is first given to us and then by receiving it, we are to give it out. The episode is introduced by the revolutionary sounds of Dre Island and Chronixx from a track called "Days of Stone" released on Dre's debut 2020 album, reminding us that the clock is constantly ticking and change must emerge from these oppressive times, for it was written. A touchy topic indeed, we were cautious to share our own personal experiences and lowpoints to keep this conversation as neutral as possible while still upholding our individual truths. In these times of violent spiritual warfare, where the masses are under attack and risk of mental infiltration by the media, the ruling class and society's various institutions, this episode can be used as a resource for enlightenment, confirmation, and comfort to those who are finding it hard to discern truth from lies on this manic matrix we call earth throughout the period of the refinement, evolution, and healing of our souls, minds, and hearts from generational pain and suffering. Original Broadcast: July 2008 Monthly Theme: Names of God In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) Elohim Elohim is the basic name for God in the Hebrew language. This month we'll meditate on the various names that God gives Himself in the Old Testament. Each name expresses a different aspect of God's character. This morning we start with the most basic and earliest. In good grammatical Hebrew, Elohim is plural and denotes gods in general. Even the idols of the nations were called Elohim. But God takes this name upon Himself in the beginning for two reasons. First, to proclaim Himself as the true God of the universe--its Creator and Preserver. Second, it helps to proclaim the plurality of persons in the Godhead. The plural nature points towards (but doesn't absolutely prove) the Trinity--Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The basic notion of God is expressed in Elohim as primarily the creative aspect of God. You should spend some time today thanking God for His Creation--and especially His creation of you. Amen.

Grace Bible Fellowship Church

WELCOME: Good morning! If you are visiting with us today, I want to welcome you once again to Grace Bible Fellowship Church. It’s an honor to be worshiping with you today. John continues his instructions once again on the topic of love. In the past two sermons we have learned that we can be assured of our salvation and that we are commanded to be discerning. Now John returns to the topic of love for the third time in this epistle. Obviously, this is a very important topic. In 1 John 4:7-21 John says…. 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. 19 We love, because He first loved us. 20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. INTRODUCTION: In today’s message, I hope to show the relation of the perfect love of God to God’s character, Jesus’ return, a Christian’s claim of faith and the final Day of Judgment. But I am going to start with an overview of the doctrine of the Trinity to help us understand the perfect love of God. The doctrine of the Trinity is truly beyond our human comprehension yet it is definitely a part of scripture. Though the fullness of the Trinity is profound and difficult to understand, there is no doubt this is how God has revealed Himself – one God existing in three persons. Many have studied this doctrine and found it to be very weighty. For example, Jonathan Edwards, the famous pastor and theologian, noted after studying the topic extensively, “I think it to be the highest and deepest of all Divine mysteries still, notwithstanding anything that I have said or conceived about it. I don’t pretend to explain the Trinity.” The Bible is very clear that these three persons together are one and only one God. In John 10:30, Jesus says, “I and the Father are one” which validates that the Father and Son are one. First Corinthians 3:16 says, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” This highlights that the Father and the Spirit are one. Romans 8:9 makes clear that the Son and the Spirit are one when Paul says, “However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you…” And finally, John 14:16-18 and 23 demonstrate that the Father, Son, and Spirit are one; Jesus says, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you…. Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.” Now let’s take a look at the Old Testament which highlights the idea of the Trinity in several ways. The title Elohim (“God”), for instance, is a plural noun, which can suggest multiplicity. This corresponds to the fact that the plural pronoun (“us”) is sometimes used of God. For example, in Genesis 1:26 God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” In Isaiah 6:8, Isaiah says, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” There are also passages where all three persons of the Trinity are seen at work. In Isaiah 48:16, Israel is being reminded of their promised deliverance by each person of the Trinity: “Come near to Me, listen to this: From the first I have not spoken in secret, From the time it took place, I was there. And now the Lord God has sent Me, and His Spirit.” In Isaiah 61:1 it says, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and freedom to prisoners.” The New Testament clearly distinguishes the Trinity as three persons who are all simultaneously actively at work. For example, in Matthew 3:16-17 which highlights Christ’s baptism, all three persons were simultaneously active with the Son being baptized, the Spirit descending, and the Father speaking from heaven. In Matthew 6:9 where Jesus gives us the model prayer, Jesus Himself prayed to the Father. In John 14:26, Jesus says, God will send the Holy Spirit in His name. And in John 17:5, Jesus asks the Father to glorify Him. All these actions would not make sense unless the Father and the Son were two distinct persons. In other portions of the New Testament, the individual activity of the Trinity is highlighted. Such as in Romans 8:26 where the Holy Spirit intercedes before the Father on behalf of believers. Also in 1 John 2:1, the Son is our Advocate. In John 14:6, John reminds us that Jesus said the Holy Spirit would abide in believers. Again, in 14:18 and 20-21, Jesus Himself said He would abide in believers. And then in verse 23, the Bible states that the Father would abide in them. Each person of the Trinity is found distinctly working in a person’s life. There are other verses that can be highlighted but I hope that you are now convinced that God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit are One God manifested in three persons of the Trinity. The doctrine of the Trinity is crucial on an infinite number of levels since it is at the very heart of the doctrine of God. This doctrine is so significant, that the Trinity has implications not only for what believers think about God but also for how they relate to Him and to one another. It is the truth of the Trinity that explains God as a relational being. Based on that flawless relational model of the Trinity and God’s perfect desire and purpose to have fellowship with His creatures, the triune God designed us to be relational beings. Because God created us in His image, we therefore have the capacity to love others. This is perfectly demonstrated through our fellowship with God and with other human beings. Although human love falls far short of God’s love, it is a reflection of the perfect love that exists between the three persons of the Trinity. The New Testament mentions many kinds of love, but the supreme love is the perfect and complete love that comes from God at salvation. In Romans 5:5 Paul wrote, “The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” It is a love that does not derive from gushy feelings or a magical moment, nor is it attached to emotional romanticism; but instead it is the love that originates in salvation. Romans 8:28-30 highlights what true love looks like: Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. This type of love demonstrates itself in the good works of sanctification and according to Hebrews 10:24 it stimulates us to love and good deeds. However, the fullest expression of this love occurs when believers obey the Lord. 1 John 2:5 Whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. As I mentioned earlier, this passage is actually the third time John discusses love in this letter. First in 2:7–11 he presented love as a proof of true fellowship. Then in 3:10–17 John discussed love as evidence of believers’ sonship. This third discussion of love is an example of John’s cycling back through the letter’s moral and doctrinal proofs of salvation, each time providing his readers with greater depth and breadth. In this passage, John discusses the nature of perfect Trinitarian love as it relates to 1) the character of God, 2) the coming of Christ, 3) the Christian’s claim of faith, and 4) the Christian’s confidence in judgment. Let’s take a look at how…. PERFECT LOVE AND THE CHARACTER OF GOD RELATE 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. John begins this passage by stating “beloved” which means “loved ones.” He then urges them to love one another as “loved ones.” But John is referring once again to agapē love—unconditional, self-sacrificing love. He is not talking about some emotion based, physical attraction, or friendship type love, but instead he is talking about the love of self-sacrificing service. It is the love granted to someone who needs to be loved not necessarily to someone who is the cutest, most attractive or even someone who is lovable. Why do we need to extend love to one another? Because love is from God. Just as God is life and the source of eternal life, He is also the source of love according to 1 John 4:16. Therefore, those who possess new life and walk in His light, they will also possess and manifest His love, since everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Because we are God’s children and are manifesting His nature, we will love one another. Those who possess the life of God have the capacity and ability to love. However the one who does not love does not know God. No matter what an individual claims, if their life is not characterized by love for others, they are not Christians. It’s not enough to know about God, you have to know God. The Jewish scribes, Pharisees, and other leaders knew a lot about God, but they did not really know Him. The absence of God’s love in their lives revealed their lack of a real acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; therefore, they had no real love for others. God by His very nature is love, thus He defines love; it does not define Him. We can’t impose a human view of love onto God, He transcends any such human boundaries. Because God is love, it helps to explain a number of things regarding a proper biblical worldview. For example, it explains the reason God created us. In eternity past, within the perfect fellowship of the Trinity, God the Father purposed, as a love gift to His Son, to redeem a people who would honor and glorify the Son. Therefore, He created a race of beings out of which He would love and redeem those who would in turn love Him forever. Jesus says in John 17: John 17:7 Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; 8 for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. 9 I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; 10 and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. Also, the truth that God is love explains human choice. He designed sinners to know and love Him by an act of their wills although it is not possible without the work of the Holy Spirit. According to Mark 12:29-30, God’s greatest commandment is that people love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. This reaffirms that our choice to love Him is an act of our will, but to know Him is to love Him. As part of a biblical worldview, the reality that God is love also explains His providence. He orchestrates all the circumstances of life in all their wonder, beauty, and even difficulty, to reveal evidence of His love. We know this because in Romans 8:28 the Scripture says, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” By His divine providence, all things, from the minute and mundane, to the most significant and eternal, are all controlled by God’s hand. Lastly, because God is love it explains the divine plan of redemption. If God operated only on the basis of His law, He would convict all of us for our sin and commit every single one of us to spend eternity in Hell. And He would be just in doing so! But His love provided a remedy for our sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ on behalf of all who repent of their sin and trust in His mercy. Galatians 4:4–5 says, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” John 3:14–15 says, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.” And then in the most well-known statement of His earthly ministry, Jesus said: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. We have talked about ways God’s love is manifested through a biblical worldview, but what about His love for mankind in general. Well, He expresses His love and goodness to all through common grace. According to Psalm 145:9, the psalmist wrote, “The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works.” As part of this, God reveals His love through His compassion, primarily through His restraint of His final judgment against unrepentant sinners. His compassion is further expressed in His countless warnings to sinners of their ultimate judgment and through His continued offer of grace and mercy to all. However, this general love of God is limited to this life. After death, unrepentant sinners will experience God’s final wrath and judgment for all eternity. But God has a special, perfect, eternal love that He lavishes on all who believe and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This is the love Jesus displayed to the apostles when they were in the upper room: John 13:1 …having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. It is the type of love that Paul writes about in Ephesians 2: Ephesians 2:4 God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” John has covered how this perfect Trinitarian love relates to the character of God and now he says that this…. PERFECT LOVE AND THE COMING OF CHRIST ARE RELATED 1 John 4:9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Jesus Christ is the dominant manifestation of God’s love in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son who came into this world. He came to earth in the flesh to live a perfect, sinless life so that He would be our perfect sacrifice. The incarnation was the supreme demonstration of God’s divine love toward us. It is a love that seeks those who believe. It is a sovereign love because of God’s will. It is a seeking love because it is in search of those who would believe. It is not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. The term “propitiation” refers to a covering for sin. Jesus Christ became our covering so when God looks at a believer, He sees Jesus Christ His Son. The prophet Isaiah foresaw His propitiatory sacrifice hundreds of years before its fulfillment. In Isaiah 53:4-6, Isaiah said: Isaiah 53:4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. By this the perfect love of God was manifested in us. God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. John’s point is that since God, in sovereign mercy, graciously displayed His love in sending Jesus Christ to us, we should surely follow His example and love others with sacrificial, Christ-like love. God not only gave His children a perfect love when He redeemed us, He also gave us the ultimate model through His Son of how that love functions in selfless sacrifice. The cross should compel, even drive, us to love others. That is why John is encouraging all of us when he says, “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” John is re-emphasizing what he said back in 3:16: “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” No one who has ever truly been saved, believed in Christ’s atoning sacrifice and follows after Him, can return permanently to a self-centered life. Instead we should try to: Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. John has covered how the perfect Trinitarian love relates to the character of God, the coming of Jesus Christ and now he says that this…. PERFECT LOVE AND THE CHRISTIAN’S CLAIM OF FAITH ARE RELATED 1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. Right off the bat, John makes a very emphatic yet simple point: No one has seen God (referring to the Father) at any time. Because we have never seen God the Father and the fact that Jesus is no longer visibly present here on earth to manifest Him, we will not see God’s love unless believers love one another. If we love one another, God is going to be on display to others and it will be a testimony that He abides in us and His love is perfected in us. In other words, the “unseen” God reveals Himself through the visible love of believers. This is the love that originated in God, was manifested in His Son, and is now demonstrated in His people. In this passage John also sets forth several significant proofs to remind us once again that we can know we are saved. Assurance begins with the work of the Holy Spirit. We know this because Ephesians 1:13–14 says, “In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.” John assures us that we can know we abide in God and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. John has already focused on the perfect love of the Father and the Son, now he emphasizes the role of the Spirit. By noting the work of each member of the Trinity, John stresses that perfect love originates from the Trinity. This perfect love is accomplished through the work of each member of the Trinity and subsequently manifested in the lives of believers. Those who abide in God will reflect His love, because God abides in them and His Spirit is at work in their hearts. Jesus compared the Holy Spirit to the wind and said people can see only the Spirit’s effects. The Spirit’s work is not visible but the impact is. The reality of our faith enables us to know we have the indwelling Spirit. John says, “We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” This doctrinal test of belief in the gospel provides evidence of the Spirit’s ministry and presence in a believer. So saving faith is possible only because God grants it. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” In John’s case, his own experience of seeing and being with Jesus verified his faith. He bore witness that the Father has sent the Son to be Savior of the world. However, he would not have believed had the Father not chosen him and the Spirit opened his eyes to the truth. John says, “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, knows that God abides in him, and he in God.” A true believer has discerned the presence of the Holy Spirit, and has come to know and believe the love which God has for us. A true believer understands the eternal love of God, who is love, for He is the source of all love. Therefore, we can rest confidently in the assurance that the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. We will also further demonstrate the genuineness of our salvation by loving the Father and the Son, loving righteousness and fellow believers rather than the world’s system. In summary, we will increasingly love the way God loves as he transforms us into the image of Jesus Christ. Well, now John has covered how the perfect Trinitarian love relates to the character of God, the coming of Jesus Christ, the Christians claim of faith; and lastly he says that this…. PERFECT LOVE AND THE CHRISTIAN’S CONFIDENCE IN THE JUDGMENT ARE RELATED 1 John 4:17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. Believers are to have confidence in the Day of Judgment because they have an accurate grasp of the gospel and other biblical doctrines and love is perfected in them. The Day of Judgment refers in the broadest sense to the final day of reckoning before God. John says we can live our lives with confidence as we look to the day when Christ returns and we stand before God to give account. Second Corinthians 5:10 says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” All believers can have a boldness as we stand before God. John declares that boldness and lack of fear should characterize our thoughts as we consider the Day of Judgment. Why can believers have such confidence? John says, because as He is, so also are we in this world. This is an absolutely stunning and sobering statement. John says God the Father treats believers the same way He does His Son Jesus Christ. God clothes believers with the righteousness of Christ according to Philippians 3:9 and grants us Jesus’ perfect love according to John 13:1 and His obedience according to John 4:34. To think that we will stand before God’s throne as confidently as Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is overwhelming to me. When we reach our final accounting, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is (1 John 3:2). Believers who possess this perfect love demonstrate the reality of their salvation; therefore, they should not fear the return of Christ or God’s judgment because perfect love casts out fear. This real love dispels fear because fear involves punishment. However, believers perfected in love will not face final punishment. Romans 5:9 says, “…having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” Anyone who fears God’s judgment is not perfected in love. So anyone who professes Christ but fears His return evidences that something is seriously amiss. That’s because 2 Timothy 4:8 says that all true saints should love His appearing. What is it that is motivating believers to have this incredible assurance of the future? Well it should be obvious: We love, because He first loved us. It was God’s perfect love that sovereignly drew all believers to Him and enabled them to reflect His love to others. John says, “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.” It’s absurd to claim to love the invisible God but at the same time not show love to His children. John continues with a closing command: “this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.” True love seeks nothing in return, unconditionally forgives, bears others’ burdens, and sacrifices to meet their needs. Philippians 2:3–4 really emphasizes this well: Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. APPLICATION/CLOSING: God’s perfect love is a blessing for us to know and a joy for us to exhibit to others. Although perfect love enhances and enriches the emotional love we have for other people, this perfect love surpasses any kind of feeling the world experiences. It is a complete, mature love that reflects the essence of God and the work of Christ as it flows through believers to those in need. This applies especially to those who are a part of God’s family. We are to bear one another’s burdens and to do good to all especially to those who are a part of the household of faith. This love, which has characterized the triune God from eternity past, is also the mark of His children. John 13:35 says, “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Because this love so clearly comes from God, those who love like Him can be assured He is our Father. John says….

Yochanan (John) the beloved sat so close to Messiah at the dinner table that evening that he was able to rest his head upon His chest. He wanted to hear what was on His Master's heart. It was revealed to John that Judas would be the one who would betray his Master.Birthed from an intimate moment with Yahushua, this podcast reveals how crucial it is to have love for another.“A renewed command I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all know that you are My taught ones, if you have love for one another.”—John 13:34-35This commandment was given to the disciples just after Messiah revealed to John who would betray Him. Why would He give this commandment now, at this time? I believe that in the last days in which we are living, just as it was in the last day of Messiah before He was delivered up, we must have an undying love for one another. This is how the world knows who we are following as our Master but also how we know who among us is true to Him (or may have the potential to betray us.) For if they betray the Master, they betray us.People talk about loving one another, but do they really? How do we truly know who is part of the family of Elohim (God) and who is a deceiver/betrayer? We love one another and our Master by how we guard and obey His commands. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”—John 3:16Elohim (God) loved us so much that He gave us His Son so that now, the whosoever's, have a choice to make. Do we choose Him who is life, or do we choose ourselves and the world which is death? There is a conditional statement in this verse. If we believe in Him, we will obey His commandments and when we obey His commandments, we show that we love Him and therefore show our love for others who also love and obey and believe in Him.This is what family is about. If we see that someone who professes to be part of the family of Elohim, and has not love, we must encourage and admonish our brothers and sisters because this is our identification as family members. We must know what side we are on and who is on our side if we are to win this war!Messiah, at the dinner that night around the table, revealed the one who did not have love for Him. In these last days, we must know who has love for our Savior and who does not. If we sit close enough to the Master's heart, He will tell us who the deceivers are. It is most important that we stay tuned in to His heartbeat if we are to maintain the love and the bond of peace that is evident in the household of Elohim. Yeshua didn’t fit their paradigm. What does “blasphemy” mean? Can just anyone commit “blasphemy”? What is meant by “the reign (kingdom) of Elohim (God) has come upon you”? Do you struggle with recognizing the authority of those you interact with? Have you found the teacher or leader who is meant for you? He may not be according to your paradigm, but this is the reason you are here–to figure out whose authority you are under, your’s?, haSatan’s?, Yahweh’s?. Who do you think is in charge?
