He publicly baptized into the fellowship of the Hope St. Baptist Church, Glasgow, some time between the ages of 11 and 13. He was educated at the Glasgow High School & Glasgow University. On the return of David Maclaren from Australia, the family moved to London. In 1842, at the age of sixteen, Maclaren entered Stepney College, a Baptist institution in London. Maclaren was twice president of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and president of the Baptist World Congress, in London, in 1905. He received honorary degrees of divinity from both Edinburgh & Glasgow Universities. In 1896 the citizens of Manchester had his portrait painted for their art gallery. Many attempts were made to draw Maclaren from Manchester, but he remained there despite his dislike of the climate & the workload, of which he sometimes complained. In 1903, he was made pastor emeritus and retired from the active ministry. † ••• “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”, Romans 10.17, NKJV . ••• What is the ‘Logos'? ••• What is the ‘Rema'? ••• What is the difference between the Logos and the Rema? ••• What is the difference between hearing and understanding God's Word? ••• What are 4-life actions for hearing the voice of God? ••• Are you going to ask your small group to pray that you be more intentional about hearing God's voice through the power of Holy Spirit? ••• Pastor Godwin Otuno expounds on this and much more on the exciting journey of Fresh Encounters Radio Podcast originally aired on October 5th, 2024 on WNQM, Nashville Quality Ministries and WWCR World Wide Christian Radio broadcasted to all 7-continents on this big beautiful blue marble, earth, floating through space. Melanie MacLaren's lyrics have been described as “haunting yet humorous” and possessing a “sentimental cynicism” that “oozes with Gen-Z relatability.” This duality shines through in all aspects of her music— she's a classic finger-style guitar that grew up playing classical, but uses ambient beds and distorted trad instruments to punctuate her compositions. At her core, Melanie is a realist, with a gift for language that extracts beauty from even the darkest reality and a unique ability to blend a tongue-in-cheek sensibility with timeless folk style. In this in -depth conversation, prepare to discover a rising star as you have never heard before. With topics as dealing with grief, to creating a beautiful song from the 'mundane' details of life to so much more. For tour dates, visit: www.melaniemaclaren.com
Witness to Yesterday (The Champlain Society Podcast on Canadian History)
Nicole O'Byrne talks to Ian MacLaren about his four-volume set, Paul Kane's Travels in Indigenous North America. An all-encompassing exploration of the nineteenth-century painter's documentary record and controversial place in Indigenous studies in North America. Paul Kane has been called the founding father of Canadian art, and Wanderings of an Artist among the Indians of North America a classic of Canadian literature. Yet his studio canvases are stereotypically generic, and his book is infamous: in word and in image, it depicts vain, vengeful, vicious, violent, and vanishing Indigenous people, disregarding its subjects' lived experiences and providing little of ethnohistorical significance. Paul Kane's Travels in Indigenous North America rediscovers the primary fieldwork underlying Kane's studio art and book and the process by which his sketches and field writings evolved into damaging stereotypes with significant authority in the nineteenth century, in both popular and learned circles. A painstaking, panoramic exploration, Paul Kane's Travels in Indigenous North America also studies the artist's oeuvre in terms of his contemporaries, his technique, and the complicated history of the provenance of the works. The whole lays the groundwork for future discussions of the pertinence of Paul Kane's documentary record to Indigenous studies in North America. I.S. MacLaren is professor emeritus of history and English at the University of Alberta. Image Credit: MQUP If you like our work, please consider supporting it: bit.ly/support_WTY.
The “big data infrastructure” world is dominated by Java, but the data-analysis world is dominated by Python. So if you need to analyse and process huge amounts of data, chances are you're in for a less-than-ideal time. The impedance mismatch will probably make your life hard somehow. So there are a lot of projects and companies trying to solve that problem. To bridge those two worlds seamlessly, and many of the popular solutions see SQL as the glue. But this week we're going to look at another solution - ignore Java, treat Kafka as a protocol, and build up all the infrastructure tools you need with a pure Python library. It's a lot of work, but in theory it would make Python the one language for data storage, analysis and processing, at scale. Tempting, but is it feasible? Joining me to discuss the pros, cons, and massive scope of that approach is Tomáš Neubauer. He started off doing real time data analysis for the Maclaren's F1 team, and is now deep in the Python mines effectively rewriting Kafka Streams in Python. But how? How much work is actually involved in porting those ideas to Python-land, and how do you even get started? And perhaps most fundamental of all - even if you succeed, will that be enough to make the job easy, or will you still have to scale the mountain of teaching people how to use the new tools you've built? Let's find out.– Quix Streams on Github: https://github.com/quixio/quix-streamsQuix Streams getting started guide: https://quix.io/get-started-with-quix-streamsQuix: https://quix.io/ Tomáš on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tom%C3%A1%C5%A1-neubauer-a10bb144Tomáš on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TomasNeubauer0Kris on Mastodon: http://mastodon.social/@krisajenkinsKris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krisjenkins/Kris on Twitter: https://twitter.com/krisajenkins --#podcast #softwaredevelopment #datascience #apachekafka #streamprocessing

I am bringing him on the podcast for numerous reasons, one of which is because he is my sister's boyfriend's doppelganger. But besides that, he has taken the internet by storm and made a brand out of helping people build their own LTO. Today we cover a lot of information, especially regarding his massive 6 figure purchase of Grant Cardone's mentorship. Having experimented with veganism, vegetarianism, keto and several other diets, he is confident that there are human-specific ways to eat. Finlay wants to give a platform for voices in the nutrition and diet world to push back against the Anti-meat narrative and help people reclaim their right to a healthy life. He is the author of Bio-hack Your Sleep: Achieve the sleep you've always dreamed of, which is available on Amazon. As the host of the very successful and entertaining podcast Chatting Fit with Finlay MacLaren, he has hosted interesting conversations with several of our former guests, including Dr. Anthony Chaffee, Dr. Natalie E. West, Dr. Bill Schindler, and Belinda Fettke, among others. Continuing the episodic series on MacLaren Hall, my guest Gilbert Bao has spent more of his life in state custody than he has outside of it. From being removed by children's services at the age of 8, to a revolving door of juvenile detention and then sentenced to 24 years to life in California State Prison, Gilbert has come out on the other side. He admits that there are daily adjustments to be made. But his freedom is worth it.
