Isaiah – The Old Testament Evangelist foretold the complete plan of salvation fulfilled in Jesus Christ. In today's study, we uncover 10 key steps to salvation as revealed in the book of Isaiah, showing how God's redemptive plan was always centered on Jesus, the Messiah.
This week, we're focusing on detoxing our soul and finding true life in Christ. What does this mean?Sin created a separation from God that only Jesus could mend. Because God loved the world so much, He gave His only Son to bring us back into His family (John 3:16). Through Jesus, we are offered salvation, redemption, and the truest life possible—a life filled with purpose, contentment, joy, and peace. This abundant life isn't free from storms, but it remains vibrant despite them. Living this life comes at a cost: surrendering our way for Jesus' way. As disciples, we follow His teachings, His example, and His guidance, embracing His truth and life (John 14:6; Matthew 11:28-30).In this message, we'll unpack Jesus' yoke as seen in the Sermon on the Mount and explore the spiritual practices He teaches—giving, prayer, and fasting. We'll dive deeper into fasting, one of the most underutilized yet transformative practices, and its power to:1.) Starve the flesh and align us with the Spirit (Galatians 5).2.) Amplify our prayers and deepen our union with God.3.) Stand with the poor, blessing others while drawing closer to Christ (Isaiah 58).Fasting isn't just about giving up food; it's about replacing our strongest desires with our deepest desire—to know and walk with Jesus. Whether it's a regular practice or a response to a crisis, fasting helps us seek God in a meaningful way.Take the challenge: Remove something this week—maybe a meal—and turn that hunger into a moment with the Lord. Let's draw closer to God together!
Radiant, Part 5The Light of Christ | Isaiah 9:1-7
What do you desire? Maybe it's material items, fame, and fortune. Or maybe it's deeper desires, like joy in hardship, fulfillment in life, or peace in chaos. Whatever you desire, Jesus can fulfill. This Christmas Eve we are finishing our series, Radiant, we'll see how Jesus changes everything and that everything we could need He has it. Jesus' birth changed everything. He fulfilled the prophecy that was foretold by Isaiah nearly 700 years before His arrival. Christ was the light amid darkness and the promised Messiah. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this year, be encouraged that the coming of Jesus meets our deepest desires and needs. We are given a child born to humbly represent us, a divine king to righteously reign over us, and a savior to passionately rescue us. Jesus fulfills our every need, bringing us hope, joy, and satisfaction in our souls. Join us this Christmas Eve and reflect on what this season truly means for all of us. Christ is the light of the world. Merry Christmas, church family!

Since Creation, Jesus Has Come; and He Will Come Again! MESSAGE SUMMARY: As we enter the Advent season, we're invited to embark on a profound spiritual journey that connects us to the very foundations of our faith. This series, 'Firstborn,' takes us back to the dawn of creation, reminding us of God's masterful handiwork and His ultimate plan for humanity. We're challenged to confront the reality of human sinfulness and our deep need for a Savior. This narrative arc from creation to redemption beautifully sets the stage for the coming of Christ, both in His first advent as a humble baby and His promised return as the triumphant judge. As we reflect on these themes, we're called to examine our own lives and prepare our hearts for Christ's coming. How can we, in this season, align ourselves more closely with God's grand design for humanity? TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, God is working His will in my life. (Philippians 2:13). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. August 31, 2024 Today's Reading: Introit for Pentecost 15 - Psalm 51:7, 10-12; antiphon: Psalm 51:2Daily Lectionary: 1 Kings 16:29-17:24; 2 Corinthians 10:1-13:14; 2 Corinthians 9:1-15“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow… Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.” (Psalm 51:7, 10-12)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Psalm 51 is a prayer of a broken man. David has nowhere to hide; his sin is exposed. He has nowhere to turn except to the one he has sinned against. David knows he has a gracious and merciful God, and so it's to God he turns with pleas for forgiveness and restoration. Can you relate to David and his prayer? Are we as honest and as utterly broken over our sin as David? When we are caught red-handed and the darkness of our heart is exposed, where do we turn? Where do we go? We, too, turn to David's Lord. We find God's tender answer to our pleas for forgiveness in Jesus. After all, He is the one in whom all the prayers for mercy find their “amen.” Jesus knows our struggles and our failings, and He did something about it. He shed his blood so that “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” (Ephesians 1:7). Jesus also knows how we are prone to question, “Am I really forgiven? I don't feel like it.” The Devil loves to create doubt in us as well, “How can God forgive you? Look what you've done! Again!” God does not want his children to live in doubt. His forgiveness is real, complete, and certain. He wants you to be certain, too, so that you might live in the joy of his gracious love, so he gives you the Gift of Baptism. In Baptism, we find all of David's pleas before God answered in the promises of your Baptism. By the water of your Baptism, God has washed you and made you clean from all your sins (Titus 3:5; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Acts 22:16). You have been born again from above by water and the Spirit, making you a new creation with a new heart (John 3:3-5). Through your Baptism, you are joined to Christ, and so He is present with you always. He has wrapped you in the garments of salvation; you are clothed with Christ (Isaiah 61:10; Galatians 3:27). In your Baptism, you now live walking in newness of life – God upholding you by His Spirit (Romans 6:4). What grace! What love! For you! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.In Baptism we now put on Christ – Our shame is fully covered With all that He once sacrificed And freely for us suffered. For here the flood of His own blood Now makes us holy, right, and good Before our heav'nly Father. (LSB 596:4)-Rev. Darrin Sheek, pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Anaheim, CA.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.The new Guiding Word series takes you through all the books of the Bible in six volumes. Starting with the Books of Moses—Genesis through Deuteronomy—you will explore every passage of every chapter of each book with the help of maps, diagrams, links between the testaments, and clarification points.
Summary: Walking in the footsteps of Jesus begins with learning obedience. The things that we go through mold us into what God wants. Suffering is used by the Father to develop us into His sons. The result is a relationship in His presence and God pouring out His holiness on us. Show Notes: Do you believe God feels pain? He feels pain when He sees what has happened to His creation, especially the miserable plight that the human race has manifested. Why do people suffer? It may not have been the plan for individuals, but some seem to open up in a deeper way through suffering. This is a mystery. As a forerunner, Christ experienced suffering as he matured, not just when he was crucified. As Paul wrote, it's a privilege to help fill up the sufferings of Christ. He disciplines for our own good so that we may share in His holiness. It's our choice. Quotes: We see in the gospels how Jesus thought and reacted. Matthew 23:37 “How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Suffering has a way of either opening your heart wide, or it closes it. He allows you to go through it because you're going to open up to His love in a deeper way. The pain and sufferings we go through are allowing us to touch a part of God that is real too, that nobody wants to talk about or even acknowledge. We're becoming more like the Lord, who became more like His Father. This is what we're in this process of. We're becoming more like our Father who created us after His image. Light of Christ | Isaiah 9:1-7
In this section of Isaiah 40 the Lord is reasoning with his people. Through a series of questions he leads them to see his incomparable nature, power, and ways. Isaiah gives us a new understanding of God in Christ, and by it we are renewed in faith. Grace Community Church exists to build spiritually healthy people for ministry in the world. One of the ways that we pursue this mission is by gathering each Sunday for corporate worship, prayer, and biblical teaching. The corporate nature of this gathering is both edifying to the believer and a witness of God's grace to the world. Sermon speaker is Scott Patty unless otherwise noted.

The Lamb's Book of Life is God's Family Album with the names of all those saved through the Blood of the Lamb. At the Great White Throne at the end of time, Christ will open this Book to verify that the names of those who had rejected God and His salvation were not included in it (Revelation 20:11-15). So they are judged according to what is written in the books of their lives. Whether or not you are written in the Book of Life defines your eternal destiny (Revelation 20:12,15, 21:27). It is the Lamb's Book, for if anyone's name is included, it is because they have been redeemed by His Blood. Derek goes through the various Scriptures that refer to this Book (Daniel 12:1, Revelation 3:5, Luke 10:20, Philippians 4:3, Isaiah 49:16). On the one hand, the Bible talks about changes being made in this Book as time goes on, which reflects human freedom of choice. Many assume that our name is written in the Book of Life when we trust in Christ, but that is not supported by Scripture, which only talks of names of people being blotted out for rejecting God (Exodus 32:32,33, Revelation 22:19). In fact, everyone who is alive physically is written in the Book of Life at their conception, but if they die in a state of sin (having reached the age of accountability) their names are blotted out (Psalm 69:28). On the other hand, the Bible says that the final list of names in the Book has been foreknown and fixed by God from eternity, and so these names were written in His Book from before the foundation of the world (Revelation 17:8, 13:8), which reflects God's Sovereignty. Thus the Book can be seen from the 2 viewpoints of eternity and time, from God's eternal viewpoint and from man's temporal viewpoint. The eternal Book of Life is unchanging, but its manifestation in time necessarily changes, because of human free-will. At the end of time, as time moves into eternity, the temporal form of the Book will assume its eternal (fixed) form, which was written by God from the foundation of the world. Either your sins will be blotted out by the Blood of Christ (Isaiah 44:22, Acts 3:19), or your name will be blotted out of His Book (John 3:16,36).
