Joel means Yahweh (Ya) is god (el) in Hebrew, which is a reverse of the order of the prophet Elijah's name - God (el) is Yahweh (Ya). Both make the case that there is but one God, and He is Israel's God, Yahweh. Both names, I think, are designed to call to mind the passage from Deuteronomy enshrined in Judaism's famous Shema prayer: Deuteronomy 6:4–5 “Hear (Heb. Shema), O Israel: The LORD (Yahweh) our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." (ESV) Jesus quotes this passage in all three synoptic gospels, so that its truth is fully established (Matthew 18:16). We might say that the theme of Joel is The Day of the LORD - past, present, and future, and how we are to respond to it, even in the midst of the judgment: Joel 2:12–14   “Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the LORD your God? (ESV) There is a great deal to think about in this book - a mix of past, present and future days of the LORD. As usual, this summary of Joel may be useful as you read/listen to this book of God's word. https://youtu.be/zQLazbgz90c?si=-Fho0nlpDqiqZxOH

Click the player above to watch the video or read the transcript below.Thank you, Mark. And thank you for dropping by to listen.Time for another history lesson.I have always been fascinated by how people developed things throughout history.Think about it.The very first people on earth had to eat. But there were no stores—no supermarkets, no Walmarts, no Costcos, no McDonalds or Burger Kings. And no DoorDash to bring the food right to their door. Yet people still had to eat. They had to look around the world they lived in and try to figure out how they would survive.Check out the image of the field of wheat below. If you saw that field of wheat and you were really hungry, you might grab a stalk, pull it out of the ground and start gnawing on it. If you did that, I don't think you would enjoy what you were eating. But I guess if you were desperately hungry, you might grab anything that growing out of the ground and eat it, hoping that you would satisfy your hunger without making you sick.Historically, what fascinates me is that people figured out that the field of wheat in front of them was food. Good food. But they had to do some things first. They could take that stalk of wheat, remove the heads from the stalk, clean the kernels from the head, get rid of the outer husk of the kernels, and then take a couple of rocks to smash the kernels into flour. With that flour, they could add some ingredients, heat it in a fire, and create a tasty loaf of bread.Would you have ever thought of doing something like that?I don't think I would have.Which means that even if I was surrounded by a field of wheat, I just might starve to death. I certainly wouldn't have a loaf of bread, or an English muffin, or a cinnamon roll. The Family MillstoneArchaeologists have discovered that people learned to process wheat thousands of years ago. Initially, a family might get a couple of rocks to crush the grain into flour. Probably something like a mortar and pestle.Over time, however, things became a little more sophisticated. People made two circular stones: one stationary stone was placed on the ground, and the other was set on top of it. The kernels were placed between the stones and the top stone was rotated by hand, crushing the kernels into flour. The stones were small, 12 to 18 inches in diameter, weighed between 20 to 30 pounds, and they worked for a single household. The Donkey MillstoneBut for a larger farm, of if a group of farmers got together, they needed something bigger to handle turning their wheat into flour. They created what was called a “mýlos onikós” which means “donkey millstone.”The mylos onikos was a very large millstone. It could be 3 to 5 feet in diameter, 6 to 12 inches thick, and weigh hundreds of pounds. Some have even been found that weigh over 1,000 pounds. The millstones were so big and heavy, they needed an animal such as a donkey to turn them.Hence their name.Jesus and ChildrenWhich brings me to the point of today's history lesson.About 2,000 years ago Jesus was teaching his disciples an important lesson. He had a child brought to him and he explained:“… whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” — Matthew 18:6 (ESV)Jesus didn't mince words when he described what someone deserves if they cause a child to sin.He used the term “mylos onikos”, which his listeners understood to mean a massive stone that weighed hundreds of pounds. The image is brutal. If you play a role in causing a child to sin, Jesus says you deserve far worse than having a millstone weighing hundreds of pounds tied around your neck, being taken out on a boat into the ocean, and being dumped overboard. It's a serious warning. Are We Leading Children Astray? As we look at our world today, are the influences bombarding our children leading them to sin?Streaming videos, social media, movies, TV, video games, smart phones—even our schools and some of our churches. Our children are spending hours every day marinating in a culture that seems determined to keep them from the God who loves them while encouraging them to embrace sin as a way of life.Ask God to show you how to be a light to the people, especially children, that He brings into your world today. Before I go, I'd like to share a blessing with you from the Old Testament.“May the Lord bless and protect you; may the Lord's face radiate with joy because of you; may he be gracious to you, show you his favor, and give you his peace.”Numbers 6:24-26 (The Living Bible)Until next time … be the reason someone smiles today This is a public episode. The Way of Life | April 27, 2025Pastor Bria BradshawJohn 20:19-23 ESV - On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”✓ The risen Jesus still meets us where we are!✓ Nothing can keep Jesus from coming and standing among us.✓ When Jesus speaks, it is reality.THE WAY OF LIFE I. This devotion on Job 19:23-25 captures one of the most powerful confessions of faith in all of Scripture: “I know that my Redeemer lives.” Even in suffering, Job declares a living hope in his Redeemer—a hope fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who stood upon the earth, died, and rose again for us.Just as Job longed for his words to be engraved in stone, let this truth be written on our hearts: Our Redeemer lives! And because He lives, we have hope that endures beyond suffering, beyond death, and into eternity.

This devotion on Job 16:19-21 beautifully highlights the comfort of having a heavenly advocate. Job, in his suffering, longs for someone to plead his case before God—a longing fulfilled in Jesus Christ, our Advocate (1 John 2:1). In Christ, we find the One who not only witnesses our struggles but intercedes for us (Romans 8:26). When human comfort fails, when accusations arise, and when tears fall, our Savior stands in our defense.

Scripture:  Exodus 20:17, Mark 7:21-23, Matthew 6:33, 2 Corinthians 10:5, 1 Timothy 6:6-10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” Exodus 20:17 Covet - to yearn to possess or have what belongs to another. Covet - insatiable desire for more at the expense of others. Today's tenth word is unique as it regulates thought. The other ten words all regulate behavior (e.g. have no other gods, remember the Sabbath Day, honor your parents, don't steal, don't murder). We see in scripture how our thought-life has a huge influence on our behavior: Cain - Genesis 4 Joseph's brothers - Genesis 37 Korah - Numbers 16 David - 2 Samuel 11 Ghazi - 2 Kings 5 We see in the Bible that our thought-life greatly controls our behavior, actions and even our futures.  As the mind thinks - so we behave.  Pathology Envy Jealousy Dishonesty Relationships Dissatisfaction Focus Mental health Financial issues Where does coveting come from?  Mark 7:21-23 tells us, “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” (ESV)  Jesus is calling us to realize our thought-life matters! How do we stop coveting?     1.    Christ - we need to look to Jesus and remember that He died on the cross and rose for us. Matthew 6:33 tells us to rely on Him and 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”     2.    Contentment - while in this fallen world, we still know what the future holds: life forever with God. This is where our containment is found - in the promise of our future with Him. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 “But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”     3.    Celebration - celebrate what we have. In Philippians 4:4-7 we are told, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Celebrate the good things of God and have a thankful hearts. God's 10 Words are still powerful words today. He gives them to us to:     1.    Protect us - keep us on His path     2.    Reveal our sin - so that we come to Him     3.    Give us direction - that guides our lives and shows us how to live When we take to heart God's Ten Words - that brings blessings to us as believers AND blessings to the world. What are we not willing to let go of? What are we holding on to tightly that isn't serving us? What are we attached to? Like this monkey, the enemy keeps us from finding true freedom in Christ because. While we may want all that Christ promises us, we are not willing to let go of that which is keeping us bound, chained, and imprisoned. The only way to truly experience God's freedom is to surrender everything to Him. John 8:34–36 (ESV) Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Greek — logos Hebrew — dabar Creation Revelation Salvation THE WORD IS JESUS Creation Revelation Salvation THE WORD IN THE BELIEVER Creation — You Have Been Made New Revelation — Know God! Salvation — Enjoy Hope! 2 Timothy 4:8 (ESV) Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. Genesis 1:1,3 (ESV) In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. … And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Acts 17:28 (ESV) “In him we live and move and have our being”; as even some of your own poets have said, “For we are indeed his offspring.” Psalm 33:6 (ESV) By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. Jeremiah 1:4 (ESV) Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Psalm 107:20 (ESV) He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. John 1:29–30 (ESV) The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.'” John 1:3 (ESV) All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. Colossians 1:16–17 (ESV) For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Hebrews 1:1–2 (ESV) Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. John 3:17 (ESV) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. John 14:6 (ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Hebrews 1:3 (ESV) He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature. Mark 9:7 (ESV) This is my beloved Son; listen to him. John 6:68 (ESV) Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of life. Romans 8:1 (ESV) There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 4:1–2 (ESV) I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,

Jesus Calling Pt. 1 Ephesus: First Love Lost By Louie Marsh, 11-3-2024     1) Jesus is in CONTROL.   “1“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands.” (Revelation 2:1, ESV)   ·       He can - & will – execute JUDGEMENT on the church at any moment.   2) Jesus KNOWS!   “2“ ‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary… “6Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.” (Revelation 2:2–3,6 ESV)   ·       Jesus knows and UNDERSTANDS how hard it is to follow Him.   “13“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:13–14, ESV)   ·       He ENCOURAGES me to keep going.   “9And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9, ESV)   ·       He COMMENDS me for standing with Him.   “23His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.'” (Matthew 25:23, ESV)   Nicolaitans – not sure who they really were. Speculated the leader might have been Nicolaus in Acts 6:5 was leader. Very doubtful -the one thing we do know is they were almost surely early gnostics.   What's a gnostic? (How cruel to claim to have the ultimate truth, but refuse to share it until you've jumped through a hundred hoops). Modern examples of Gnostics: Scientology, orgs who claim to have ancient knowledge, but you have to climb the ladder to find out.   3) Jesus demands ACCOUNTABILITY.   “4But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.” (Revelation 2:4, ESV)   “36I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,” (Matthew 12:36, ESV)   4) Jesus commands me to RETURN to Him.   “5Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.” (Revelation 2:5, ESV)   ·       Remember the love I had for God.   ·       Repent – TURN AROUND and get back there.   5) Jesus reminds me to LISTEN UP.   “7He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.  (Revelation 2:7a, ESV)   6) Jesus REWARDS those who overcome.    To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.'” (Revelation 2:7b, ESV)

Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe John 17:7-8 JESUS' WORD TO THE DISCIPLES Jesus came from the Father The Father sent the Son HOW DOES THE BELIEVER KNOW THE TRUTH? … receive the word … know the word … believe the word … live by the word 1 John 1:1–2 (ESV) That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us John 1:1 (ESV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 10:10 (ESV) I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 6:51 (ESV) I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” John 6:68 (ESV) Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life Mark 1:17–18 (ESV) “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. John 12:26 (ESV) If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. Hebrews 2:1 (ESV) Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. John 14:9 (ESV) Jesus said to [Philip], “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? Colossians 3:16 (ESV) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 1 John 2:3–6 (ESV) And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. Mark 9:7 (ESV) And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”

QUOTES FOR REFLECTION “Oh! that gentleness! how far more potent is it than force!”~Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855), novelist and poet in Jane Eyre “Meek. Humble. Gentle. Jesus is not trigger-happy. Not harsh, reactionary, easily exasperated. He is the most understanding person in the universe. The posture most natural to him is not a pointed finger but open arms … You don't need to unburden or collect yourself and then come to Jesus. Your very burden is what qualifies you to come.” “When you come to Christ for mercy and love and help in your anguish and perplexity and sinfulness, you are going with the flow of his own deepest wishes, not against them.”~Dane Ortlund in Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers “Our attitudes control our lives. Attitudes are a secret power working twenty-four hours a day, for good or bad. It is of paramount importance that we know how to harness and control this great force.”~Irving Berlin (1888-1989), famed songwriter “People may hear your words, but they feel your attitude.”~John C. Maxwell, author and speaker “As we come to grips with our own selfishness and stupidity, we make friends with the impostor and accept that we are impoverished and broken and realize that, if we were not, we would be God. The art of gentleness toward ourselves leads to being gentle with others – and is a natural prerequisite for our presence to God in prayer.”~Brennan Manning (1934-2013), author and clergy “The power of just mercy is that it belongs to the undeserving. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.Hebrews 13:20–21 (ESV) Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's Easter message, “Come." Key Verses: John 11:25–26 ESV “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”” John 3:16 KJV “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Matthew 4:19 ESV  “And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”” Matthew 14:27-29 ESV  “But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.” Sermon Topics: Easter, Salvation, Faith

Acts 20:16-21; 1-7; 10-16, ESV; Acts 9:15-16, ESV - Jesus calls us to go to the least reached with his love and hope. In 2018, All Nations sent a young worker, John Chau, to a remote uncontacted people group, the North Sentinelese. Upon arrival, John was reportedly killed by bow and arrow. The cost to go is real. The cost for audacious churches to send workers to the least reached is equally real.

Knowing Christ means we are in an all out war against the devil. We fight against sin and seek faithfulness not because we believe we can save ourselves but because Christ has saved us and we want to live faithfully and push back against anything and everything that would try to pull us away. 1 John 3:7-10 (ESV)Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.John 3:3-8 (ESV)Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Matthew 15:14 (ESV) And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit. Proverbs 6:23 (ESV) For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life, James 3:1 (ESV) Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. John 9:39–41 (ESV) Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,' your guilt remains. Matthew 5:27–28 (ESV) You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him Romans 2:23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law. Romans 3:22–23 For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:21–22 (ESV) But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Romans 3:27–28 (ESV) Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Philippians 1:9–11 (ESV) And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. John Flavel It is true, orthodoxy in itself is not sufficient to any man's salvation; but the conjunction of an orthodox head, with an honest sincere heart, does always constitute an excellent Christian. This Is Our God: Week 2Chase GardnerDescription: It's not that hard to believe that God could love us when we're at our best, but how could He possibly love us when we're at our worst? In week two of the series, Chase Gardner uses the story of the Samaritan woman at the well to show how Jesus goes out of His way to meet us in our shame. Message Notes:God is gracious and we don't need to prove ourselves. John 4:3 (ESV) Jews and Samaritans saw each other as unworthy of dignity or respect. Jesus intentionally goes to Samaria. John 4:7a (ESV) - The Samaritan woman goes to the well at a time when she knows no one will be around. John 4:7b (ESV) - Jesus speaking to this woman would have been seen as scandalous. John 4:9 (ESV) – Jesus isn't worried about what people are thinking; He just cares about this woman. John 4:10-14 (ESV) – Jesus is talking about her spiritual thirst. John 4:15-17 (ESV) – People often misinterpret that this woman is an adulterer. What if the problem Jesus was trying to fix was actually shame? Jesus is breaking every social rule to meet this woman at the epicenter of her shame. At our worst, Jesus still wants to draw near. John 4:19-26 (ESV) Jesus is the answer to receiving the forgiveness, acceptance, transformation, redemption, and unfathomable grace that you have to experience to truly believe. John 4:27-29 (ESV) The woman leaves her shame and runs to the people who have harmed her because they have no power over her anymore. Not only did God freely forgive her and love her, but He used the rest of her life in a powerful way.

God Reveals His Norming Norm We are often arbitrary in how we evaluate ourselves and others – But God has a perfect standard we are evaluated by – the Truth He has revealed to us in His holy word. Read Exodus 34:1-9 Dictionary.com defines truth as the actual state of a matter; conformity with fact or reality. What is the opposite of truth? Falsehood, or lies. Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolators, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. -Rev. 22:14-15 (ESV) All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. -2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV) Every biblical command God gives is based on His truth and is to help you flourish as His child. Every sin listed in the Bible has built in consequences that will be experienced when you reject God's truth for you and engage in that sin. Precept, Principle, Person (Josh McDowell). And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. -John 1:14 (ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me.” -John 14:6 (ESV) So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My Word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” -John 8:32, 36 (ESV) The one who rejects Me and does not receive My words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. -John 12:48 (ESV) The word for truth in Exodus 34:6 is the Hebrew word emet (H571), which occurs 125 times in the O.T. It is usually translated truth or faithfulness. The sum of Your word is truth [emet], and every one of Your righteous rules endures forever. -Psalm 119:160 (ESV) The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth [emet]. -Psalm 145:18 (ESV) Let the [lying] prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully [emet]. -Jeremiah 23:28 (ESV) Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness [emet] or steadfast love [hesed[, and no knowledge of God in the land; there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. -Hosea 4:1-2 (ESV) Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy [emet] and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. -Ex. 18:21 (ESV) Now therefore fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in faithfulness [emet]. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. -Joshua 24:14 (ESV) Teach me Your way, O LORD, that I may walk in Your truth [emet]; Unite my heart to fear your name. -Psalm 86:11 (ESV) They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen. -Romans 9:4-5 (ESV) Do not be arrogant toward the branches [i.e., currently unbelieving Jews]. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. -Romans 11:18 (ESV) My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. -1 John 2:2 (ESV)

This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” Luke 15:1-7 The Message“By this time a lot of men and women of questionable reputation were hanging around Jesus, listening intently. The Pharisees and religion scholars were not pleased, not at all pleased. They growled, “He takes in sinners and eats meals with them, treating them like old friends.” Their grumbling triggered this story.  “Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and lost one. Wouldn't you leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until you found it? When found, you can be sure you would put it across your shoulders, rejoicing, and when you got home call in your friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Celebrate with me! I've found my lost sheep!' Count on it—there's more joy in heaven over one sinner's rescued life than over ninety-nine good people in no need of rescue.” Luke 4:43 ESV“But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.” Mark 10:46-52 The Message“They spent some time in Jericho. As Jesus was leaving town, trailed by his disciples and a parade of people, a blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, was sitting alongside the road. When he heard that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by, he began to cry out, “Son of David, Jesus! Mercy, have mercy on me!” Many tried to hush him up, but he yelled all the louder, “Son of David! Mercy, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped in his tracks. “Call him over.” They called him. “It's your lucky day! Get up! He's calling you to come!” Throwing off his coat, he was on his feet at once and came to Jesus. Jesus said, “What can I do for you?” The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “On your way,” said Jesus. “Your faith has saved and healed you.” In that very instant he recovered his sight and followed Jesus down the road.”

Bible Study Don't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: . Sermon Notes Christians who are filled with the Spirit overflow In Ephesians 5:17, Paul commands that Christians "Be Filled with the Holy Spirit." He goes on to describe three results ("overflows") of that filling – worship, thanksgiving, and practicing submission in relationships Definition - "Submission is a voluntary act of coming under another person in order to lift them up in love" Paul's description from Phil 2 - “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Phil. 2:3–4 ESV) Jesus is the supreme example of practicing submission – on the Cross he voluntarily made himself less and came under unworthy sinners in order to lift us up into God's love and salvation Jesus remains king even though he practices submission. If we are in positions of authority, we can still practice submission without compromising our position (as a boss, parent, etc.) If we lack authority in a relationship and are expected to submit (to a boss, parent, etc.), we can still choose to do so out of reverence for Christ (5:21) which is a much stronger motivation Practicing submission requires wisdom and godly discernment. It does not mean submitting to harmful behavior from another person Practicing submission cannot happen in our own strength – it is the result of first being filled by the Holy Spirit! Sermon Application What is the command in Ephesians 5:17-21? What are the results? Can you think of a person who treats you with submission and service? Why must we be filled with the Holy Spirit before trying to practice submission in our relationships? Can you think of some examples where submission is not an appropriate way to treat another person? Describe how a person in a position of authority can still demonstrate submission toward someone below them? For the Christian, why is the motivation of serving Christ greater than the motivation of pleasing the boss or bettering one's reputation?

Walking in Spiritual Authority Mark 1:27 (ESV)“They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”Luke 9:1 (ESV)“He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.” Spiritual Authority Where do you get it? Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)“Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”John 12:49 (ESV)“For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has Himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak.” John 14:10 (ESV)“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does His works.” John 16:13-15 (ESV) “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore, I said that He will take what is mine and declare it to you.” “So, if Jesus and the Holy Spirit functioned under God's Authority then naturally you and I as followers of Jesus and temples of the Holy spirit should also.” How do you get it?   Matthew 21:18-22 (ESV)“In the morning, as He was returning to the city, He became hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, He went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And He said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”How do you lose it? Matthew 8:5-10 (ESV)“When He had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to Him, appealing to Him, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” And He said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,' and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,' and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,' and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who followed Him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.”James 4:7 (CSB) “Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” How do you use it? 2 Corinthians 13:10 (ESV)"For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.”

Theme of Revelation 22: At the end, Jesus tells us exactly how to finish well. 1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. 6 And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” 7 “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” 8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, 9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” 10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” 12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” 17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. How far in advance do you plan things?   No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” John 10:18 ESV   Jesus came to die. He states it plainly right here. So if you thought Jesus was a victim, or if you thought there was some possibility of a different outcome, this verse is a problem. This whole chapter is.   In fact, in verse 31, the Jews took up stones to stone him. The Jewish Law required stoning anyone who claimed to be God. So they clearly understood his claim. He didn't present himself as a good teacher. He was here, on our planet to complete the plan.   I believe the plan was created before Adam was created. God knew what it would take for this creature, a human, to have the kind of relationship he wanted to have with us. He planned this from the beginning.   That means I can't foil the plan. I won't ruin the deal. God's doing his thing. We get to be a part of his strategy simply by trusting Jesus and living among our friends. Our job is to do what Jesus says.   Today, let's do our job. On our Marketplace Mission Trip today's lesson is about serving others. We can serve others simply because our eternal destiny has been provided. It's a lock based on who Jesus was. He had the plan from the beginning. Our job is to live differently simply because we trust Jesus. Why not join us? Head over to https://community.followerofone.org and create a profile. 212 Christian Women Porn Addiction & Sexual Sin

Episode Summary:  Lust is a man's problem, right? Wrong. When we see lust as an exclusively male issue, it leaves Christian women with nowhere to turn when they struggle with the same things. A 2016 Barna study found 20 percent of Christian women use porn regularly. These women suffer silently and often feel alone with nowhere to turn. There are numerous resources for men struggling, but not women. Today's guest, Jessica Harris, made it her mission to break the silence, banish the shame, and bring women's struggles into the light of God's grace and forgiveness. Jessica and I talk about how Christian women can overcome porn addiction and sexual shame.  Quotables from the episode: With the advent of the internet came pornography accessibility to women. At the core of pornography addiction is loneliness, pressure to go further into other sexual exploits and harm. Often, those who struggle with porn addiction are searching for comfort, for belonging, and even the desire to disappear. Their worth, value, and identity become wrapped up and all about sex. Pornography divorces sex and intimacy. God has grace for women who struggle with pornography and/or sexual shame. Women who struggle with pornography can have a vibrant, abundant, and full life and future. We are image bearers of God, so our worth comes from Christ. He loves us and bought us with a price. The 3 signposts of shame are: 1) warning sign: during which there is an absorption with self; 2) Flight from exposure: we isolate from others to minimize the same; 3) Violence: we lash out and protect what we try to hide. Shame isolates; whereas God welcomes us into holiness. What hope do we have if we believe that the Giver of freedom wants nothing to do with us? The message Christian women need isn't “stop watching porn” or “porn is bad and contributes to human trafficking” etc. Instead, what they need is a reminder of God's grace and to know that shame is trying to keep them from the one relationship they need in order to experience true life-giving freedom. Grace is something we need every single day. Every single one of us. It doesn't matter our backstory, shame is always looking for a way to separate us from God, isolate us, and drive us back into the comforts we once knew (sin). There is grace and freedom to be found by drawing nearer to God not hiding from Him. When you are in the thick of a pornography addiction, or even in the beginning of trying to break free, it can feel like a battle you will never win. It can feel like you are going to spend the rest of your life actively fighting this, and I would want them to know that is not the case. Christ offers us freedom and abundant life and science itself has even proven that our minds and bodies can heal. So while the ideal picture of freedom might seem impossible right now, it's not impossible. Nothing is impossible with God. Shame, by its nature, isolates. It drives us into darkness and into secrecy and we lie to ourselves when we try to convince ourselves we can find freedom on our own. Part of freedom is found in community.   Scripture References: John 4:13-14 ESV “Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 10:10 HCSB “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 15:4 ESV “Abide in me, and I in you. Do you consider yourself pretty smart?   In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father for such was your gracious will." Luke 10:21 ESV   Jesus says God hid something from the wise and revealed it to infants. Where are you on that spectrum?   First, let's acknowledge that Jesus is probably being a bit sarcastic. As he mentions the wise and understanding, I believe he's being sarcastic. This takes place right after the disciples return from having gone throughout the countryside and cast out demons and proclaimed the truth of the coming Messiah. Jesus is celebrating how God is working.   I consider this passage to be a reminder that true wisdom comes from above. And we can only understand it through obedience to God. Godly wisdom comes from the Holy Spirit living in us. He reveals that true wisdom to his children, those listening to him and doing what he says.   What about you? Do you think wisdom comes from experience or from books? In some degree, it does, but true understanding of God comes from him. Let's remember today that our obedience puts us in the position to know him better and trust him more. Then we're available to be used by God in the lives of others.   We also discussed a parallel verse in Episode 329, Wisdom from Obedience.

Romans 1:16 | I Am Not Ashamed from CrossPointe Coast on Vimeo. Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe Scripture: Romans 1:16 I AM NOT ASHAMED THE POWER OF GOD FOR SALVATION 2 Corinthians 11:23–29 (ESV) Are they servants of Christ? I am [even more]—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death. Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea; on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant? 1 Corinthians 1:23 (ESV) _ we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,_ Luke 18:32 (ESV) For [the Son of Man] will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. Mark 8:34–38 (ESV) If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. Hebrews 12:2 (ESV) … Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 2 Timothy 1:8 (ESV) Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God … 2 Timothy 1:12 (ESV) … which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. Romans 10:10 (ESV) For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 3:23–24 (ESV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Romans 5:9 (ESV) Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. Romans 5:10 (ESV) For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. Hebrews 7:25 (ESV) Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. Romans 10:11 (ESV) For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” Romans 9:33 (ESV) as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” Romans 1:32 (ESV) Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:24-25 (NIV) Trial of Sanhedrin- If you are the Christ, Tell us. But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, and if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” - Luke 22:67-71 (ESV) Trial of Sanhedrin-So they all said, “Are you the son of God, then?” And he said to them, You say that I am.” Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.” - Luke 22:67-71 (ESV) Trial Before Pilate – Round 1 And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” - Luke 23:3 (ESV) Trial Before Herod- When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him. - Luke 23:8-9 Trial Before Herod – So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer. - Luke 23:8-9 (ESV) Trial Before Pilate – Round 2 He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. - John 19:9-11 (ESV) So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” - John 19:9-11 (ESV) Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” - John 19:9-11 (ESV) His Silence – Strips their Authority His Words – Speak to the Father's Authority His Actions – Prophetic Fulfillment We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us have turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. - Isaiah 53:6-7 His Actions – Prophetic Fulfillment He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, - Isaiah 53:6-7 His Silence – Strips their Authority His Words – Speak to the Father's Authority His Actions – Prophetic Fulfillment His Defense – His Own Authority His Defense – His own Authority No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father. - John 10:18 Jesus didn't feel the need to defend himself, neither will I Jesus didn't reason with unreasonable people, neither will I Jesus walked in purpose, so will I Jesus was raised to eternal life, so will I For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example and you must follow in his steps. He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. - 1 Peter 2:21-25 (NLT) He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. New Song Answers Weekend - Transformation Expressed - Pastors Tonderai and Ashley Bassoppo-Moyo - November 19th & 20th, 2022As those practicing the way of Jesus, we are called to sacrificial mission. This is the outward expression of the inward transformation process at work within us. That the whole world might know, we are on mission to be a city on a hill, the light of the world.TRANSFORMATION EXPRESSED 1 - Sacrificial mission is the outward expression of our inward transformation. If there is no sacrificial mission, if there is no pouring out, if there is no outward expression of the inward transformation - we live an incomplete picture of the Gospel.2 - Sacrificial mission requires living from the well. Matthew 25:23 (NIV)…”Well done, good and faithful servant…” “The extent of our sacrifice coupled with the depth of our joy displays the worth we put on the reward of God.” - John Piper  3 - Sacrificial mission requires your life.Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”John 12:24 (NIV)“Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”  A seed has to die in order for it to produce fruit.  Romans 6:5-7 (NKJV)“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.”  Romans 15:18 (NLT)“Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me, bringing the Gentiles to God by my message and by the way I worked among them.”  Expressed transformation reveals a life given over to the Lord. 4 - Sacrificial mission expresses Kingship. “Missions exists because worship doesn't….When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.” - John Piper The mission of the Kingdom is to bring others in that they, too, may come to know and express His Kingship in their lives. Matthew 5:14 (ESV)“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”  We are citizens of a different Kingdom - and a mark of our citizenship is the way we live.  John 15:8 (ESV)“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”  Fruit bearing is proof of transformation.   We have been entrusted with the Gospel, representing His Kingdom, and reflecting the official position of Heaven.   Matthew 5:16 (NIV)“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”  Mark 15:15 (ESV)“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.'”  Matthew 28:18-19 (NIV)“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…'”  John 20:21 (ESV)“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.'”  Luke 24:47 (NLT)“It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.'''  5 - Sacrificial mission turns the world upside down.  Acts 20:24 (NIV) “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace.”  Acts 17:1-6 (ESV)Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,  explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd. And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, ‘These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also….'”Luke 10:2-3 ESV“And he said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.'” Acts 1:8 (ESV) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
