Starting from the beginning of the show, each week we recap an episode of The Golden Girls and we end each episode with a fully researched deep dive into something from the Golden Girls universe! In episode 24, THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME! BIG DADDY IS COMING TO MIAMI! That's right, Blanche's father is bringing all his Southern charm for a visit… but he also has an announcement. Shenanigans ensue when a neighbor's tree falls onto the ladies' lanai and Sophia has to put a Sicilian curse on the guy to get him to take care of it. For the week's deep dive, Patrick is telling us the story of Ellen Stewart, who created the downtown Off-Off-Broadway theater La MaMa. It was at La MaMa that Torch Song Trilogy, the play starring Estelle Getty which led to her landing the role of Sophia on The Golden Girls, was created, and the woman behind the theater's creation was a trailblazer in the downtown arts scene. When Albert Poland was a teenager, he wrote to Judy Garland requesting that he create The Judy Garland fan club and she accepted. Tune in to hear this amazing story! Legendary Producer and General Manager Albert Poland's work has spanned the dawn of Off Broadway to the Broadway blockbusters of the 1980s and 1990s and beyond. He worked with them all, from an unknown Sam Shepard and David Mamet to Edward Albee and Arthur Miller. He was also the founder of the Judy Garland Fan Club as a young teen. STAGES-a theater memoir is more than an insider's view of his many major productions, although there is plenty of that, from The Fantasticks and Little Shop of Horrors to Long Day's Journey into Night and from The Grapes of Wrath to The Boy from Oz. Witty, colorful, unconventional, and wickedly insightful, Poland has had a career that comprises a fascinating portrait of the social and cultural landscape of New York, from the '60s to the present, seen through the lens of a life in the theater (and yes, he managed the play with that title). You will get intimate and personal views of such stars as Judy Garland, Bette Davis, Hugh Jackman, Vanessa Redgrave, Truman Capote, and Liza Minnelli, as well as such theatrical titans as Cameron Mackintosh, Bernard B. Jacobs, Gerald Schoenfeld, and Ellen Stewart. Poland is the co-author/editor of The Off Off Broadway Book, and is a principal player in Michael Riedel's best-seller Razzle Dazzle: The Battle for Broadway. In June of 2019, The Off Broadway Alliance presented Albert Poland with a Legend of Off Broadway Award.

Recovery Recharged with Ellen Stewart: Pushy Broad From The Bronx®: Just Feel Good with Best Selling Author Andrew Kap Andrew Kap is a #1 best-selling author of the book, The Last Law of Attraction Book You'll Ever Need To Read. Andrew Kap is best known for taking topics that many would find overwhelming, and condensing them into actionable, more consumable content. After getting his perennial best-seller "The Last Law of Attraction Book You'll Ever Need To Read" past one hundred thousand copies in sales, Andrew followed it up by publishing “3 Words I Used To Sell 100,000 Books” where he lays out an organic marketing strategy for success that any nonfiction author can implement on their first day learning it. Both of Andrew's books have enjoyed #1 Best Seller status in multiple categories on Amazon and continue to serve more readers with every passing day. Andrew Kap is best known for his perennial best-selling “The Last Law of Attraction Book You'll Ever Need To Read.” After selling 100,000 copies and garnering thousands of five-star reviews, he realized the one type of reader he'd still never reach was one who was resistant to the term “Law of Attraction” itself. So, he challenged himself to write a new book giving readers just as much value and action steps for improving their lives …without ever actually saying the term “law of attraction” in any of his explanations. The result — a brief user-friendly follow up, that can be gifted to anyone regardless of their beliefs, titled “Just Feel Good.” Andrew is now taking this message out to the world in this new more concise way, paving the way for more readers to be served in the process. For Video Edition, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/PUshNVucPFI Legendary Producer and General Manager Albert Poland's work has spanned the dawn of Off-Broadway, the Broadway blockbusters of the 1980s and 1990s, and beyond. He worked with them all, from an unknown Sam Shepard and David Mamet, to Edward Albee and Arthur Miller. He was also the founder of the Judy Garland Fan Club as a young teen. An insider's view of his many legendary productions, although there is plenty of that, from The Fantasticks and Little Shop of Horrors to Long Day's Journey Into Night, and from The Grapes of Wrath to The Boy from Oz. Witty, colorful, unconventional, and wickedly insightful, Poland has had a career that comprises a fascinating portrait of the social and cultural landscape of New York from the early 60s to the present, seen through the lens of a life in the theater (and yes, he managed the play with that title). We talk about Judy Garland, Hugh Jackman, and Liza Minnelli, as well as such theatrical titans as Cameron Mackintosh, Gerald Schoenfeld, Bernard B. Jacobs, and Ellen Stewart. Poland is the author of Stages: A Theatrical Memoir
Joel Zwick is a director and producer, known for My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), Tango Shalom (2021) and Elvis Has Left the Building (2004). He worked on the television series Perfect Strangers, Full House, and Family Matters, His father was a cantor from an Orthodox background, and Zwick had his bar mitzvah at an Orthodox synagogue. Zwick went to Brooklyn College ('62), where he taught in the School of Film. Zwick was active in the Off-Off-Broadway movement at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, which was founded by Ellen Stewart in 1961. He worked with the La MaMa Plexus company at the East Village theater and on tour both domestically and internationally. He performed with La MaMa Plexus in Jan Quackenbush's Inside Out in 1968. https://entertainmentbusinessleague.com The Entertainment Business Wisdom podcast and its hosts are providing this podcast as a public service.
