In 2020, Ellidy Pullin's life was turned upside down when her partner, Olympic snowboarder Alex ‘Chumpy' Pullin, died in a tragic accident. The couple had been trying for a baby, so in the deeply disorientating hours after his sudden death, when a friend suggested the possibility of a posthumous sperm retrieval – a complicated, and sometimes controversial procedure whereby sperm samples are taken within 36 hours of a person's death – Ellidy knew instantly that this was something she wanted to pursue. I've been in a relationship and living with my partner for about 3.5years now. When it comes time to have any deeper conversations he consistently shuts down,  whether this be about our relationship or discussing deeper topics of interest like politics, unpacking childhoods, relationships with parents, misogyny, the patriarchy, racism, religion etc. He will always listen and he is happy for me to say what's on my mind however he never knows how to respond or how to add to the conversation other than to say nothing or make a senseless immature joke. I really struggle in these moments as it makes me feel really alone. Like I am giving a lecture to someone or having a conversation with myself. I don't know what is the “normal,” amount of “deeper” conversation that most men typically engage in and for how long, or for how often? I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do, or if I am being unreasonable in asking for too much?  Eyes closed or eyes open during sex? My partner will wake up first thing in the morning and check his phone in bed while he's next to me and reply to work emails and messages he's missed overnight. Whereas I'm the type of person who likes to wake up and not go on my phone straight away. He will also often talk to me while on his phone and therefore not fully hear what I'm telling him. It really irks me as I like to have more boundaries around technology. I know I can't and shouldn't tell him what to do but I'm also struggling on my end because of it. What can I do? Chloe Fisher married her now-husband, Grammy-nominated DJ Fisher, in 2020. It was on their wedding night that Chloe fell pregnant for the first time. She would miscarry shortly after. It was from that point that Chloe, also a model, instagram influencer and entrepreneur, decided to use her platform to give voice to people who have lost pregnancies. For most of us the legacy of a loved one is kept alive through much more than a memory or a photo album. It is usually through a child or children, who help carry that legacy. This week we are joined by two incredible ladies, whose stories you won't believe until you hear them. Ell Pullin and Lotte Bowser are two friends brought together by the unimaginable loss of their partners, world champion snowboarder Alex ‘Chumpy' Pullin, and UK music agent Ben Kouijzer. Both Ben and Chumpy are known for their magnetic energy, their passion for life and music, and they have both left a huge imprint in the lives and hearts of everyone who knew them. Shortly after Chumpy's sudden death while out spearfishing in July 2020, Ellidy announced a miracle pregnancy with his baby after finding out about a procedure called postmortem sperm retrieval. After two rounds of IVF, Ellidy gave birth to Minnie Alex Pullin in October 2021.Lotte recounts her harrowing experience of when she flew to Mexico in October 2020 where Ben was undergoing alternative cancer treatments to try and save his life. One morning Ben was rushed into hospital and separated from Lotte after contracting Covid-19. Devastatingly, this was the last time she saw him alive. Lotte and Ellidy are also both experiencing cumulative grief, after losing their dads only a short time after their partners died. Their bravery and resilience is nothing short of admirable, and this conversation is one that we are both thankful to have been a part of.
