Play Episode Listen Later Apr 15, 2025 109:06

A 5th generation military man called by a purpose to serve our country, Commando Heston Russell put his life on the line in 5 tours of Iraq & Afghanistan. His calling to serve & willingness to sacrifice his life on the front line, filled him with pride until our country turned their back on him. Branding Heston a war criminal, the ABC released doctored footage and accused Heston of committing a war crime. Proving he wasn't even in the country at the time of the incident & that the footage had been manipulated, Heston was not only cleared of the accusations but he also won a landmark defamation case in the Federal Court against the ABC. Throughout this process, the politicians who had formerly called on Heston for his expertise did not answer his calls for assistance & the Australian Defence Force did not reach out to even check in on him once. Heston was abandoned by the people he served whilst in the fight of his life. However, now on the other side of a more tumultuous time, I was privileged to share this incredible conversation with him. There are a few things I admire about Heston. Of course, his service to our great country is one of them, but at the core of this incredible man is one of the most powerful stories & unique personalities I have had on the show. Here is what to expect for our chat:- Crushing all stereo types, Heston now openly speaks about his sexuality as a gay man - one of the very few who have walked his path in life to do so. - He shares some absolutely hilarious stories in the conversation that had me in stitches. The more wholesome message though is the importance of embracing who you truly are to live a fulfilled life & reconnect with your purpose in life.- We break down & discuss the mindset & character required to be a high performer in the special forces.- Heston intimately shares the words he wrote in death notes to family & friends before heading off on his most dangerous deployments. He believes that this is one of the most powerful exercises you can do to find inner peace & channel high performance.- We speak about leadership & why it seems to be lacking in Australian politics.- All of this & so much more in one of my all time favourite episodes of the show.Follow Heston & I on socials @bradleyjdryburgh @hestonrussellGo to https://hestonrussell.com/book for his incredible book! ⁨@HestonRussell⁩ on YouTube. If you enjoyed this episode, subscribe to the channel so that I can continue to interview the best guests from around the world & share the most entertaining & insightful conversations with you.Big love,Brad xx Hosted on Acast.
