Join Caroline, Laura, Maritess and Parker alongside former co-hosts Alissa and Evie for this memorable episode. SPECIAL GUESTS Alissa Brown, MSN, RN, CMSRN, NPD-BC is a clinical nurse educator from the University of Utah Health. She has been working in the health care industry for almost 12 years, and started her nursing career as a med-surg bedside nurse on an Ortho, Trauma, and Surgical Specialty Unit. It was through that experience in the med-surg unit where she discovered a passion for education, and pursued a master's degree. She is a lifelong learner, and loves to teach. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, she's not all work, and definitely enjoys play! She loves to travel, and tries to plan as many vacations each year as she can with family and friends. Alissa loves to read, listen to podcasts, and geek out to documentaries and crime shows on the weekends. She's a total fair weather fan when it comes to Utes Football, but will cheer in all the right places, or get mad when her husband tells her to during a game. Evie Harris, BSN, MA, RN, FNE lives and works in Baltimore, MD and has been an RN for 4 years, and is also a Forensic Nurse Examiner. She works on a busy med-surg unit in the roles of staff RN, Charge RN, unit education council representative, & preceptor. Evie has previous careers in management, teaching, & on-air radio co-producer/co-host. Her future career goals include nurse management & nurse administration, as well as nursing entrepreneurial endeavors. Evie enjoys spending time with her daughter, traveling, laughing at all things, and anywhere there is music, you will find her singing & dancing, even at work, with her patients & colleagues. CO-HOSTS Caroline Ashman, MSN, RN, CMSRN was born and raised in England. She had two dreams in life – to become a nurse and live in the United States. She accomplished the first task in 1985 and then in 1991, immigrated to America. She currently serves as a Nurse Leader. She has also been afforded the wonderful opportunity to teach Med Surg Review Courses across the United States and in Europe for AMSN. Collecting air miles and sharing stores along the way, she is thrilled to join the Podcast team and recognize that the specialty of medical surgical nursing is alive and well. Caroline lives with her husband Jimmy, in metro Atlanta and has two grown daughters, Jennifer & Emily. Laura Johnson, MSN, RN, CMSRN has been a nurse since 2008 with a background in Med/Surg and Oncology. She has held many positions throughout my career including management and leadership. In this new social distancing era, Dennis connects via Skype with his longtime friend, actor and filmmaker Jack Plotnick, to talk about Dennis's current online obsession; Jack's epic musical short Alien Mini Mall Tetralogy, in which he plays two different aliens as well as several alien clones who wrestle with life's big themes at a mini-mall on Santa Monica Boulevard. Jack talks about what inspired him to start the journey, shooting at his neighborhood mini-mall, why he chose the music of Styx and Rush and turning a woman's fur collar into a wig. He also discusses the the donut shop-owner who embraced the process and the fed-up dry cleaner who banished him from the property. Other topics include: his lack of the embarrassment gene, what making silly comedy videos has brought to his life, how doing them improved his drama acting, how doing silly videos has gotten him work, the connection between Kenny Rogers and Jack's Girls Will Be Girls character Evie Harris and making fun of Ron Howard's Masterclass faux pas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFa7OGjvM-8

Dennis visits the one and only Miss Coco Peru in her lovely San Fernando Valley home for an emotional rollercoaster of an interview. Dennis shares the touching coincidence he experienced at Coco's February show "She's Got Balls." He then pulls himself together to discuss other topics like Coco's origin story, her Terms of Endearment catharsis and the power of vulnerability. Her hilarious "Grand Theft Auto" YouTube video is also broken down as her memories of making out with Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet in Girls Will Be Girls. Also on the docket: Coco's yearly visits to her husband Rafael's home country of Spain, the nudist resort gig that turned out to be awful, Coco's encounters with stars like Allison Janney, Taylor Dayne, Bea Arthur, Anna Nicole Smith, Jeffrey Tambor and Ben Vereen and the poop sketch that Dennis collaborated on with Coco and Jack Plotnick as Evie Harris that scandalzed the LA charity world. Dennis visits his old friend, filmmaker and actor Jack Plotnick on the eve of the release of his sci-fi dramedy Space Station 76, starring Patrick Wilson, Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Jerry O'Connell and Marisa Coughlan. Jack talks about the inspiration for the film, its long, winding road to fruition and what's it like to watch Matt Bomer pleasure himself with a robot hand. Also discussed are Jack's bound-for-Broadway jukebox musical "Disaster!" (co-created with Seth Rudetsky), what it was like to be part of "Ellen's" game-changing Coming Out episode, putting Sir Ian McKellan to sleep on the set of "Gods and Monsters" and the early days of his illustrious "Girls Will Be Girls" character Evie Harris. (FYI, the photo of us was taken at our friends Guy and Nir's Malibu wedding in the fall of 2013 and I'm rocking the Mad Men suit I talked about in the podcast "So This Is What Striking Looks Like.") More Jack Plotnick fun to come in an Extra episode. Stay tuned.
One of the most beloved films featuring drag queens of all time is Girls Will Be Girls, where three actresses at various stages on the Hollywood food chain navigate the minefield of love, aging and ambition. The film features the raunchy ensemble of Coco Peru, Varla Jean Merman and Evie Harris, all drag queens who had separate careers but were brought together like Charlies Angels to create a dynamic comedy trifecta. We heard that after this photo was taken, Evie Harris had a three way with Shields and Yarnell. Photo by Dennis Hensley. The entire project was a way for openly gay TV writer Richard Day and his friend Jack Plotnick to vent their fRustrations as gay men working in Hollywood.Although Girls will be Girls was a hit with critics and audiences, the making of a sequel was cost prohibitive. Now, thanks to digital video cameras and fundraising tools like Kickstarter, fans raised the funds needed to create the apocalyptic sequel coming out next year: Girls Will be Girls 2012.Today we are joined by Jack Plotnick, the man behind Evie Harris sharing with us the anguished journey of actors in Hollywood trying to find meaning in their lives and the origins of Evie Harris, a washed-up, alcoholic, aging C-List actress.➤ What Coco Peru and Varla Jean Merman have to say about their co-star when she’s not around.➤ How being a sloppy drag queen got him working with Sir Ian McKellen on the Oscar nominated film Gods and Monsters.➤ Learning how to love acting and auditions as an actor.➤ And daily affirmations actor and trans folks can say to find the joy and purpose in life.
