Theology ought to be ruled by the biblical text. So says Prof. Yarnell, a systematic theologian who studied Hebrew and Greek and who makes careful use of those languages in his work. In this episode he explains the importance of the languages for theological reasoning generally, and specifically with reference to an OT text that was debated by Church Fathers such as Athanasius. Dr. Malcolm Yarnell III is Research Professor of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is Teaching Pastor at Lakeside Baptist Church. His publications include Who Is the Holy Spirit?: Biblical Insights into His Divine Person and God, Volume 1 of Theology for Every Person. Happy Emmy voting day! Before casting your vote, treat yourself to one last listen. I'm thrilled to have spoken with Production Designers Steve Morden and James Yarnell, along with Set Decorator John Sparano, about their Emmy-nominated special, "Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic." They share their incredible experiences and stories of transforming a grand vision into reality, honoring the legendary Dick Van Dyke in this remarkable variety special. Celebrating the life of a legend like Dick Van Dyke was no small feat, especially within the tight time frame provided. Yet, this challenge offered a unique opportunity to recreate iconic sets and decor from Dick's illustrious career. From meticulously replicating the "Dick Van Dyke Show" set—right down to one of the original lamps—to creating a stage that splits down the center to accommodate various performances celebrating his storied career, the team went above and beyond. At 98 years old, Dick Van Dyke was visibly moved by the faithful recreation of his former workplace. For designers and decorators, this heartfelt reaction is the highest compliment they could receive. Are you a fan of TV and film production? Biomimicry is a practice that learns from and mimics the strategies found in nature to solve human design challenges in a regenerative way. The Biomimicry Institute empowers people to create nature-inspired solutions for a healthy planet. Their goal today is for biomimicry to become a natural part of the design process, to create a new generation of innovators who support all life on this planet. Jared brings his entrepreneurial background and startup coaching experience to the Biomimicry Institute, where he supports startups as they commercialize biomimetic innovations that are addressing major climate and environmental issues. Before joining the Institute, Jared developed and ran startup training programs with Penn State University's incubator and accelerator programs and was the Program Director of Thought For Food, a global community of food and agriculture entrepreneurs. He is the creator of the open-source startup training toolkit Startup Guts, was an initial founding member of the AgTech company GreenTowers, and started a small food preservation company in rural Kenya. He has an Executive Certificate in Social Impact Strategy from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University. Show Notes: [1:21] - What is biomimicry? Jared explains what this means and how understanding biomimicry can help us solve a lot of climate challenges. [3:36] - Jared did not begin his career in this space. He shares how he found himself in the climate space and why it has become so important to him. [6:40] - You can't predict future customers if you don't understand their past behaviors. [7:34] - One of the most successful and exciting programs the Biomimicry Institution offers is a startup support program called The Ray of Hope Accelerator. [8:29] - Jared shares some of the data and statistics that show the success from The Ray of Hope Accelerator. [11:58] - Jared describes some of the companies that are a part of the Biomimicry Institute's portfolio. [13:21] - If we work with nature instead of against it, we can make things stronger. [14:36] - There is a lot to learn from nature and many ways to apply what we learn. [16:18] - A key component of the Biomimicry Institute's support is education. [19:25] - Jared shares how he and his team stay up to date on their own education and learning in the industry. [22:54] - What sets the Biomimicry Institute apart? [25:13] - There are several things that Jared is excited about when it comes to new technologies and new things to explore that could impact the climate world. [28:51] - This area has a ton of growth opportunities and potential for positive change. Links and Resources: Biomimicry Institute Website

If youth workers aren't teaching teenagers about God then how can we call what we're doing "ministry"? The doctrine of God is a topic that people tend to either take for granted or they are intimidated by it's grandeur. This conversation highlights some of the core aspects of the doctrine of God and why it's so important to talk about with teenagers. What is the vision behind the “Theology for Every Person” series? People are easily intimidated by the word “theology.” Why is it so important to promote theology for normal believers? Why start with the doctrine of God and not the doctrine of Scripture/Revelation? Could you give us an overview of the doctrine of God, what does that involve? Does someone need to believe in the Trinity in order to be a Christian? What about the new believer? Our audience is primarily youth pastors and volunteer youth workers… what advice do you have for them in talking about the Trinity and doctrine of God with teenagers, in a way that is simple to understand and doctrinally sound? Advice about a youth teaching series about the attributes of God? Dr. Malcolm Yarnell serves as Research Professor of Theology at SWBTS and as Teaching Pastor at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, TX, among other things. He's also written or contributed to many theology books – his latest project is a three-part series entitled “Theology for Every Person” and the first book has just been released, which focuses on the doctrine of God. To learn more about Dr. Yarnell, go to: https://www.malcolmyarnell.com/ MORE ABOUT THE BOOK: Knowing, loving, and worshiping God is the call and privilege of every disciple of Jesus. Because all Christians are part of his royal priesthood, theology is not just for those teaching in the academy or serving in ministry vocations. Theologian and author, Malcolm B. Yarnell, writes in his new book, God (B&H Publishing Group, March 5), “The first theologian to argue that the Bible should be in every person's language also argued theology is not merely for professional scholars. I agree with Erasmus of Rotterdam: Scripture is for everyone, so theology is for everyone.” Theology proper centers on God, exploring his existence, his divine nature, his Persons, and his attributes. In God, Yarnell shares an overview of these truths in the doctrine of God as well as other great truths in the doctrine of divine revelation. “You are not simply setting out on a journey toward deeper knowledge,” says Yarnell. “If theological study only results in knowing abstract truths about God, then we have not done theology well. Right theology invariably leads to right living and right worship, and this is our ultimate goal in these books and in this life.” God is the first volume of a three-part series entitled Theology for Every Person. The other volumes will include God's Word to the World, which considers God in Christ and his works of creation, humanity, and redemption, and God's Work in the World, which explores God the Holy Spirit and the divine works of salvation, the church, and the end. “This series is intended to help equip every Christian with their God-given call to serve God as a theologian,” writes Yarnell. “In other words, it is for you as a follower of Christ Jesus, whatever the other roles you fulfill in life.”

When the Yarnell Hill Fire abruptly changes direction, hotshot Brendan McDonough has to abandon his lookout post and run for his life. Meanwhile, the rest of his crew, the Granite Mountain Hotshots, are safe on a ridge, in what firefighters call “the black” – an already-burned area. But when the winds change direction, and push the fire towards the town of Yarnell, crew chief Eric Marsh makes a fateful decision: to lead his men out of their safe area, so they can help fight the fire.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The Granite Mountain Hotshots arrive in Yarnell to help fight what is now the number-one fire priority in all of Arizona. But crew chief Eric Marsh is frustrated when his guys are assigned to create fire breaks at the back of the fire. He wants his team to be on the front lines, where the action is. Meanwhile, driven by high winds, the fire begins to threaten the town of Peeples Valley, forcing the evacuation of the fire command center and throwing the entire firefighting effort into chaos.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
