Today my guest is the fabulous Farryn VanHumbeck. You may know her from her Hallmark movies, "Looks Like Christmas," "Summer of Dreams," "Christmas Homecoming," and "Wedding of Dreams," but that is only a smattering of the incredible credits on her resume to date. I had the honor of meeting this young woman in person a few years back, and the maturity and talent she displays are far beyond her years. She is enchanting, intelligent, and authentic to the core, and I look for amazing things in her future, so watch this space! She began with Tim Burton, and now she finds herself a Hallmark favorite. (As a side note, she pays a lovely tribute to one of her co-stars who recently passed, Anne Heche. At the time of recording, Anne was alive, so the kind words Farryn speaks about her serve as a living memorial for this talented actress who we lost far too soon.)FOLLOW FARRYN:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/farrynvanhumbeck/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/farryn.vanhumbeckTwitter: https://twitter.com/farrynvhumbeckIMDb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5947387/

If you had a label, what would it say? Now, would that label need to be swapped out depending on who you were marketing yourself to? A blue label for work, a yellow one for home, a purple one for your friends? All that labeling gets complicated. So it begs the question… Why do we feel the need to have so many different labels depending on the audience? Why can't we just wear the one description that fits us most authentically; exposing our vulnerabilities, our strengths, and just…embrace it? This week, Karlee shines the light on a particular piece of wisdom courtesy of brand building expert Farryn Weiner. When reflecting on how Covid-19 has changed the way she does business, Farryn highlights the importance of shared values, alignment, and authenticity. In this episode, you'll hear how the upheaval of Covid-19 has helped her focus on the type of business owner she wants to be, and how that decision relates to knowing the kind of person she wants to be. She shares why emotional intelligence is becoming more important in the workplace, and reveals how vulnerability is really the key to happiness and fulfillment. Fynn immediately disguises himself using his Remembrance Guild patch and tells the party that he knows where to go, leading them all towards his parents' church.

Having worked in marketing her entire career, she founded Dialogue — a digital brand marketing consultancy dedicated to expanding the influence and growth of luxury and lifestyle brands — in 2017. She rebels against formulas in favor of meaningful and lasting relationships, and her unique approach has catapulted most, if not all, of today's biggest brands. In this episode, she and Farryn tackle the age-old elusive question of what is influence? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Farryn Weiner is the Founder & CEO of Farrynheight. Farryn spent the last 15 years mastering her craft as a storyteller through a variety of creative fields. After graduating from NYU film school, she spent time at different magazines and tech companies before ultimately landing at jetsetter.com and formally entering the world of marketing. When she worked at Jetsetter, social media was emerging as a game-changing portal for two-way brand communication and she was fascinated by the power it gave brands to own their narrative and talk directly to their customers. She then went on to work in marketing roles at Michael Kors and most recently, Sweetgreen, helping expand their footprint nationwide. Along the way she had countless conversations with founders and VCs and understood a common deprioritization of marketing & branding in the early days of a start-up. She knew from her experience how critical it was to build this foundation and wanted to create a bad ass team of marketers who could fill that gap. That's how Farrynheight was born.Today at Farrynheight, Farryn runs a brand strategy and marketing SWAT team. Their sweet spot is to work with early stage startups to help them launch or relaunch their brands. The team is unique in that they are incredibly selective about the clients they work with, serving as an extension of the core team and completely replacing the marketing function in some cases. Their mix of all-star women enables them to seamlessly zoom in and zoom out, helping founders understand the high-level strategy behind building a powerful brand as well as the tactical steps needed to execute on that brand vision day to day. To date, they've worked with companies like Reformation, Bandier, Highline Wellness, Monument, Scent Bird and more.Tune in to hear Farryn's story!EPISODE TOPICS: (2:43) Farrynheight snapshot today(4:35) Background and founding story(7:36) Building brand strategy - approach(10:45) Building brand strategy - tactics(14:03) Staying a great brand for decades(16:58) Scaling a service business(22:18) People-light businesses(24:03) Marketing strategy - tactics(27:41) Favorite brand campaigns(31:28) Future of DTC(36:11) What hasn't worked well in building Farrynheight?(42:33) Transparency(46:33) Balancing ambition and happiness(51:16) What drives you?(53:15) Farryn's wellness stack(59:37) Farryn's startup manifestoFarrynheight - farrynheight.comFollow Farryn (@jetsetfarryn) on Instagram // TwitterFollow Farrynheight (@farrynheight) on Instagram // TwitterFarryn's content and learning recommendations The Founder - www.thefounderpod.com Follow The Founder (@founderpodcast) on Instagram // LinkedIn // Twitter // NewsletterDon't have time to listen to the full episode? “We worked hard this past month. Let's take a pause and enjoy it,” says our very own brand marketer, Jwala Gandhi. “Those little things make a big difference.” But how does one do that in a WFH world? The lines are blurred, the screens omnipresent. The concept of time off seems redundant when you're working from the comfort of your own home in sweats. In this special bonus episode, Farryn opens the floor to the Farrynheight team to talk about the chronic exhaustion we know as burnout. We're surrounded by work, so how can we tell if we're almost – but not quite – burned out? “We often say stand for one thing and express it a million ways, which is why I say ‘strategy actually liberates brands to explore and experiment' around their mission and vision.” Jonah Fay-Hurvitz is Head of Strategy at Red Antler, a branding agency based in Brooklyn, New York, that works with some of the greatest startups and new ventures defining the past decade. From Casper to Allbirds, Fay-Hurwitz is the man with a plan that's partially responsible for a fresh new guard of brands that are doing things differently, more responsibly, more transparently, more connectedly, and more in touch with their audiences and communities. In this episode, Farryn and Jonah unpack the “why's” of the world...way beyond brand strategy. “Once we establish the ‘why,' we can then take a brand's product or service to a more meaningful place that goes beyond anything functional, and to a place that speaks with emotional weight and purpose.” Hosted on Acast. “No one takes the time, even five minutes, with a blank piece of paper to write a plan for their life,” says Musa Tariq. The former Global Head of Marketing at AirBnb applies the same strategy to life as he does the countless brands he advises. In this episode, Farryn catches up with her longtime friend to explore the concept of storytelling. “I've put together so many proposals, and project plans for so many different things, from shoes, to cars, to computers. But so many people have never done that for themselves,” Tariq states. From brand values to points of distinction, Tariq advocates for the same approach in building both brand and personal identities. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Showing up is half the battle, how we show up matters. That's what celebrity stylist and GQ veteran, Sophie Lopez, believes. “You are your own walking billboard of who you are. It's an advertisement of you,” says Lopez who counts the likes of Kate Hudson as one of her top clients. “It's about zeroing in and figuring out what serves you,” says Lopez, “what makes you feel a certain way, and also what might present out to the world what you want in order to achieve or reach something.” In this episode Farryn and Sophie explore the overlapping worlds of branding and fashion. How personal presentation shapes a meeting, a day, even a career and all the ways in which we display our own brand without even noticing it. Hosted on Acast.
