Of all the skills we have to learn as parents of medically complex children, one of the most difficult is often just finding a medical team that you trust, and that trusts and respects you as well. When it comes to dealing with doctors and other specialists, it can sound like they're speaking a different language, and we are often coming to the table from two very different perspectives. So in today's episode, Dr. Kelly Fradin, MD shares with us how we can better communicate with our child's medical team and advocate in a way that feels less frustrating. She offers some amazing advice on how to navigate getting second opinions, how to ask questions that get to the root of the issues at hand, and even how to find those seemingly rare physicians who are willing to go above and beyond for our children. If you've been trying to find better ways to work with your child's medical team, this episode is for you! And a big thanks to this episode's sponsor, MOOG Medical, maker of the Infinity pump. When it comes to the relationship between you and your physicians it should be seen and treated as a partnership. Where both sides are listening effectively to find the best treatment plan. In this segment, JessTheIE aka Jessica Wilson shares what prompted her to become her own advocate in her medical journey after dealing with difficult twin pregnancy, dealing with breast cancer, and helping others learn how to navigate and speak up for themselves too. See video here - https://youtu.be/p84xLUqXaQ4 WHO IS JESSICA? Jessica Wilson is a Self-Advocacy Coach from Pittsburgh, Pa, currently living in Atlanta, Ga. She works with minorities (in race, gender, education, socio-economic status, etc.), teaching them effective methods to speak up for themselves in the medical, employment, and personal relationship spaces. After experiencing a difficult twin pregnancy in 2017 and being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, Jessica knows that many people shy away from advocating for themselves when speaking to those perceived as authority figures - especially doctors and nurses. She believes that self-advocacy is a crucial life skill that we all should possess, and her goal is for everyone to strengthen their competency and put it into practice. Jessica has successfully advocated for herself against a major car manufacturer in a lemon law case, her medical team, and senior leadership at a Fortune 500 company. She is a natural logical thinker and complex problem solver and has used her passion for process improvement to launch a coaching career helping others develop and employ effective self-advocacy strategies. In addition to her life experiences, Jessica is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and Project Management Professional (PMP). Jessica holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida, as well as an MBA from the University of Florida. This episode of the #RockstarsRocking podcast features the rockstar duo Reid and Heidi and Reid Rasmussen, Co-Founders of freshbenies, out of the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX area.  Today's guests are a husband-and-wife duo; Reid with a background in benefits, and Heidi, who worked her way up the J.C. Penny chain from the sales floor to VP. They decided to take a shot at creating their own company after they found a hole in the benefit programs that Reid had been working with. This ‘hole' helped to birth ‘freshbenies', which combines telehealth, mental health, savings networks, and more, in one simple membership. In just a few short years, they've risen to National prominence and recognition, being named four times to the Inc5000 list of fastest growing companies. In this week's episode, we begin by discussing how they decided to form their own company, Heidi taking the risk to join Reid as the second employee after the J.C. Penny restructure made her redundant, and rebranding their company using the one name that 100% of their market research participants hated. We get into the explosive growth of telehealth, bundled services, and how having a concierge partner can act as a “travel agent” for your health, leading you to deals, and steering you away from bad providers. Reid and Heidi also discuss building a company to work remotely from the beginning and how to keep everyone focused on their goals, as well as being an “employer of choice” in the current talent war following the large ‘Great Resignation' that has definitely become the hot topic over the last many months. We round it out by talking about their clever “Brokers In Cars Getting Coffee” media segment, modeled after the famous Seinfeld series; “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee”. So, are you ready for more? Mom Tameka Diaz followed her gut that something was off with her daughter Evely (and had suspicions confirmed) not once, not twice, but three times! In each instance, she faced resistance of medical professionals and felt like she was on trial to prove that her daughter deserved tests and screens. The first time, Evely's profound heart failure was discovered. The second time, Evely received a sleep study after much resistance, and found she had severe sleep apnea and required surgeries and machines to help her breathe at night. And most recently, they found epilepsy after another round of fighting doctors to give her daughter the tests to look into her concerns. Because of these experiences, Tameka is passionate in empowering other parents to follow our gut and never stop fighting for them. About Ethical Seduction Podcast Ethical Seduction is a podcast that helps listeners improve their knowledge and skills related to sex and relationships. The show is hosted by four passionate humans, Steven, Kimberly, Eva, and Brandie, whose paths crossed in the local Nashville kinky community center called The Mark. The Mark is a non-profit, kink-friendly BDSM community center located in Nashville, TN, with a focus on education, inclusivity, sex positivity, and consensuality. Steven and Kimberly met there in 2015 with Eva and Brandie attending soon after. All four have been volunteering on a regular basis and serve as members of The Mark’s Management Team. Steven has developed several classes, including Ethical Seduction, and leads The Mark’s Welcome Team which greets new people entering their community. Kimberly also teaches, hosts community “play parties”, and is the acting benevolence coordinator for The Mark. Brandy is a registered nurse, serving on both The Mark’s Medical Advocacy team and Education Committee. And Eva is a Jill-of-all-trades helping check people in, teaching, assisting with various management duties, and she helps hosts Many Loves events for the local polyamorous community. The concept for Steven’s first Ethical Seduction class came about when he noticed how some people who came to The Mark struggled with certain social situations or with meeting new friends or partners. Sometimes people held themselves back because they were nervous, while other times they would accidentally make someone feel uncomfortable. And so Ethical Seduction was started as a way to better understand each other, to help people develop better social skills, and really empower them to be able to create the quality interactions they wanted. The Ethical Seduction Podcast was started last December as a way to further these discussions, to give people better sex and relationship education, and to help them get what they want both in and out of the bedroom!   Ethical Seduction Links and Resources Website homepage: www.ethicalseduction.com Blog page for this episode: https://www.ethicalseduction.com/blogging/creating-engaging-conversations-333 Podcast links to the show: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ethical-seduction-021-living-authentically-navi-bliss/id1544697470?i=1000519427762 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6Za2tRqZvO413SOyOR8rfi?si=pGjY8-1eSjWihLGswTdNeA Social Links: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ethicalseduction/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EthicalSeduction   Navi Bliss Links and Resources Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/naviblisscoaching

As an adult with Cerebral Palsy, Donna R. Gore has run into situations not readily covered by personal physicians. Most resources and treatments are geared towards children as those with the disability aren't expected to live a long life.  She has run the gamut of self diagnosis to putting together a "dream team" of doctors and recources to have her needs met. Donna will share her personal outcomes and advice for others who may be going down the same path and not know where to turn for the best care. She is also doing a detailed series on dealing with disabilities as an adult.
