We loved this episode! The Jen and Dawson parts. The Joey and Dawson not having storylines together. Joey being a good roommate to Audrey. We'll take it all...with the exception of the Pacey and Karen story, which we have some issues with. How is it that Pacey is our least favorite character this episode? Making her first appearance in two years, Erin La Rosa returns to the podcast to discuss the original ensemble romance, PLAYING BY HEART.We break down why movies of this ilk never seem to work, and why this one stands out as one of the stinkiest, the standout performance from Angelina Jolie, and how projects like this even get produced in the first place. We also dive down a rabbit hole of MMA culture, Q-Anon conspiracists, and Y2K doomsday preppers (Really, anything to avoid talking about this milktoast film), and for the second week in a row, rip apart Crazy Stupid Love!Find Erin at: erinlarosacreative.comPatreon: patreon.com/podcastlikeits1989Twitter: twitter.com/podcastlikeitsInstagram: instagram.com/podcastlikeitsReddit: reddit.com/r/PodcastLikeIts See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Dawson's in Boston to see a shrink but instead of actually going he ends up at a frat party with Jack. Meanwhile, our dream friend couple, Jen and Pacey, talk about what she's going to do about Charlie and she ends up getting back at him with his other girlfriend, Nora, who we love. Audrey's mom is in town and Joey reluctantly goes to dinner with them, and ignores a lot of abuse being hurled at Audrey before she FINALLY stands up for a woman and we love it. Everyone ends up at a party on Pacey's boat where Dawson tells Joey that he blames himself for his dad's death and if she hadn't left a message on his phone, he would have gone back to LA and maybe his dad wouldn't be dead. Oof. Then everyone tells Dawson he doesn't need to apologize and we hate it. Join us for this deep dive into the 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek! Thank you so much to Killya for our amazing theme song. This episode made us defend frat boys and we're not thrilled about it. We love Pacey and Jen's friendship and wish we got a million more hours of them, but we're so confused about most of the rest of this episode. What are we even supposed to be rooting for with Dawson and Joey? Are we supposed to be mad at Jack? Because we're not. And finally, why must we always do Jen so dirty? Joey, Jen, and Audrey hang out and we love every second of it. Also, please tell us who our characters line up with in Sex and the City because we're having that conversation. Joey sees Pacey and dare we say growth—she doesn't throw Jen under the bus, and she isn't mad at Pacey. Wow, Josephine, we're proud. Also, she goes to see Pacey at his boat and yet another David Gray song has been cut, but this is just so swoon-worthy. Jen is having hot sex with Charlie but is worried that sex is all they are. Girl, have fun with this. We are begging you. And Jack gets invited to be the token gay at a fraternity and weighs his options over whether or not he wants that. Oh right, Dawson tells Mitch and Gail that he's dropping out of USC and that goes about as well as one would expect. Also, we get a lesson about eating ice cream in cars that no one will forget. Well apparently Joey and Dawson have spent the whole weekend together and talked about literally nothing, so here we are. Luckily everyone else is amazing so we continue to have a great time in season 5. Love this Jen and Charlie story so far and honestly, we hope Jen is having a great time with early-00s Chad Michael Murray, so many teenage dreams coming true there. Audrey continues to be the literal best as she takes Dawson around campus and talks to him about Joey. We even kind of like Dawson while he's with Audrey. Also, super into Pacey maybe starting work at this restaurant, oh and who is that girl that's leaving Pacey's boat in the morning, is it Jennifer Morrison?!? Yes indeed. We're shipping out to Boston this week. That's right, it's the start of season 5 and Joey, Jack, and Jen are in Boston starting college while Dawson has to stay in LA because he needs to wear sandals and cargo shorts to his internship on a movie lot. And we have so many questions. But honestly, we don't care about Dawson and Joey right now because Jack, Jen, and Joey are FRIENDS! And Joey's new roommate, Audrey, is incredible. And Audrey says that Jen's her new best friend and we have to scream about Busy Phillips and Michelle Williams for like 12 minutes nonstop. Oh also, Pacey's hiding out in Boston Harbor. I'm sure that's not going to blow up at any point. Guys, we loved this episode, and maybe it's because we are done with the slog of the end of season 4, but this one is fun and full of joy and here's where we start reminiscing about meeting each other, because this is about where it happened. LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT! It's the end of season 4 and we are VERY conflicted over this episode. Wouldn't it be a great episode about how hard it is to leave everything you've known and say goodbye to everyone you love if it didn't end LIKE THAT?!?!? Here's to you, Capeside High class of 2001! I guess it's your 20 reunion now, and wow how time has flown. But let's look back on the episode that gave us the 'you wouldn't have to ask, Pace' moment. The episode we got Andie back for a fleeting moment. The episode where Jack admitted that Tobey is his boyfriend. And of course, the episode where Jen finally got a fucking break. Well everyone is broken up and we're going to feel the pain of it. Gretchen is leaving Capeside and Dawson decides that what he should really do is join her on a road trip and skip his high school graduation. Joey takes Pacey to a Worthington party when the dean of admissions tells her that he has a proposition for Pacey. It's not the one they were hoping for though. And finally, Jen tells Jack she can't go with him to Boston Bay College because she doesn't want Grams to sell the house and move into the La Brea park (we know)senior living center to pay for it. It's the dreaded senior prom episode and man is this one tough. The Joey and Pacey of it all is the key but everyone's having a terrible time except for maybe Jack and Tobey who end up being really sweet by the end. Everyone is late in different ways in this ride of an episode. Gail is 2 weeks late in giving birth and she and Mitch still haven't picked out a name for their baby so they throw a naming party, which makes Joey super uncomfortable since her period is late and she thinks she's pregnant. Joey can't find Pacey to help her navigate her situation because his brother took him away to talk some sense into him after last episode. Meanwhile, Jack's late for tutoring and lets Tobey go early and then he gets beaten up because he's gay. Just some lightness for this episode. It's senior ditch day, which we can't remember if we had or not, but Joey and Jen are living out our dream for them by being there for each other in New York as Jen confronts her dad about their relationship. Meanwhile, Dawson and Gretchen are living out real life shit that's happened to us, by going on an unplanned road trip and then getting a flat tire and dealing with it. Don't worry, we'll be screaming about these teenagers and their decisions around sex some more. And of course, Pacey ends up with Drue at a dive bar, getting drunk on what is sure to be the cheapest tequila shots ever produced. Blech! It's college acceptance time and my god what a nightmare. Jack and Jen have decided that they're going to go to the same college but Jen is hesitant about going back to New York. When Dawson's parents and Joey's sister call the school and ask them both to call home about college mail (seriously, this was not a thing) they learn that Joey got into Worthington (a very real college) and Dawson did not get into NYU. But of course, reality is slapped into Joey when she doesn't get financial aid, and thus can't go. Dawson makes the choice to give her Mr. Brooks's money but Joey decides that if she's going to take it she needs to tell Dawson about her virginity, which is a choice. Pacey and Joey are HORNY and ready to bone each other like all the time, and we are very happy about this. In dealing with the aftermath of the ski trip and Mr. Brooks's death, we get, you guessed it, four different stories. In the first, Joey and Pacey miss the bus and have a post-coital discussion when they're waiting to get back home. In one, Dawson deals with his feelings about Mr. Brooks and how he lived his life. Do we think Dawson is scared he's going to end up like Brooks? Yes. Jen gets sent to therapy, which shockingly is happening for the first time, and maybe she'll come back? Let's hope, even if we don't love this therapist. And finally, Dawson and Joey kind of have a great night in a town that doesn't seem like it's Capeside, but Dawson ruins it by asking if Joey and Pacey have had sex, and then Joey ruins it by lying. We're talking about the absolute ridiculousness of Dawson possibly having control over ending Brooks's life, and the fact that Andy Griffith comes to say good-bye to Brooks. It's time for Dawson to meet Gretchen's friends, and one of them is Rachel True, and we are so excited about it. But the age difference between Dawson and Gretchen has never been more apparent. Meanwhile, Joey and Pacey have to take Drue and Anna (whose dad is president of the Capeside Yacht Club) on a double date, so Joey can get time off for the Senior Trip. Side note: on what planet are these guys the kind of people who go on a senior trip? It's Pacey's 18th birthday, and it's full of plot holes. Did Joey and Pacey ever go to Sunday night dinners? Because if they did, why is Joey so shocked at how much Pacey's family sucks? Dawson makes the rookie mistake of thinking just because you go on a date with someone, doesn't mean you're in a relationship. And why the fuck is Tobey so mean to Jack, and why is Jen encouraging Tobey's crush on Jack, when Tobey and Jack seem to really not get along at all? So many questions, so few answers. This week we're talking about all kinds of men behaving badly. Between Dawson, Pacey, and Drue, we have a trifecta of shitty dudes...and Joey isn't great either. Between Pacey trying to pawn Gretchen off on her ex, Drue sexually assaulting Joey (can this girl catch a damn break?), or Dawson trying to tell Grams her life, everyone is messy. And to top it all off, we end with a romcom trope that we kind of love and kind of hate. This one's a ride. Join us for this deep dive into the 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek! The fallout from Dawson and Gretchen's kiss at the holiday party is reverberating through Capeside, because when is a kiss ever JUST a kiss in this little town? Pacey and Joey are fighting over how Joey feels about it, while completely ruining their time without Bessie and Bodie watching over them. Jen and Jack go to Provincetown to a Gay Straight alliance meeting and meet Tobey, who, like every man on this show, must be a dick before he can be nice. Ugh. Merry Christmas in March. This episode is all over the place, with Joey completely out of her element and throwing Pacey under the bus at a Worthington networking dinner, while Gretchen negotiates to throw the annual Leery holiday part at Mitch and Gail's house. Meanwhile, Gail is WAY more pregnant than she should be at this point. Also, we learn that Grams is STILL not talking to Jen for the whole Andie taking an ecstasy tablet that Jen had, but did not procure for herself, so that's wild. Welcome to Dawson's Noir! And Congratulations to the class of 2001 (us)! This week we are trying to solve the mystery of who put the principal's boat and dog in Capeside High's indoor swimming pool (what is this high school?!?). We're here at the first bittersweet episode of senior year—we have to say goodbye to Andie McPhee. We have loved her since she ran into Pacey's dad's squad car and we will miss her greatly. Unfortunately, Andie's leaving Capeside is what brings all of our teens back together after the fallout of last week's rave and Andie's bad reaction to ecstasy. We're here to discuss it all, and listen to Sarah McLachlan for the entire last part of the episode. Join us for this deep dive into the 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek! Time to celebrate! Andie gets into Harvard and the gang all ends up at a rave. Andie takes one of the ecstasy pills that Drue gave Jen, and Jen has to be rave mom to Andie, who is TERRIBLE at hiding the fact that she's high. When the X reacts badly with Andie's antidepressants she needs medical attention, but before she can be taken away in an ambulance, Jack blames Jen for this scene, and must we continue to do this shit? Pacey feels bad that he didn't know there was a problem and stays at the hospital, while Dawson and Joey hang and try to have a conversation that doesn't go super well. I’m so excited to have my friend Erin Motz from Bad Yogi on the show today. We’ve been virtual friends for many years now, and it was my first time actually chatting with her in a voice format… not email or text-based. She’s SO fun and knowledgeable and I hope you enjoy listening to this one as much as I loved recording it! Here’s what we chat about: Background info and how she started Bad Yogi What are some of the things she loves about yoga? What are tips for someone who has never tried yoga but feels intimidated? (Especially during this online time and their first class may not be in person) About her move to the US and her experience living in France Plans for Bad Yogi Her personal fitness and nutrition routine and so.much.more. Here’s a little bit about Erin yet if you’re not familiar with Bad Yogi: Erin is the Co-Founder of Bad Yogi & voice of real yogis everywhere. She is a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer and has been teaching yoga for over 16 years. Erin believes to have been a student of the human body for over a decade. Her years of independent study in anatomy, biomechanics, kinesiology, and personal training with her experience teaching yoga to a diverse group of private clients—ranging from professional athletes to stay-at-home moms—have taught her how to get proven results. In her spare time, Erin is a wine drinker, cheese eater, and not your typical yoga teacher. You won't hear much Sanskrit, she totally forgives you if you don't know your asana from your elbow, and she believe that yoga is for everyone, from the kale loving vegan to the prize-winning deer hunter. Find Erin on her website, Instagram, Tiktok, the Bad Yogi Studio app, her Youtube channel, and her PB21 program. Resources from this episode: Get 15% off Organifi with the code FITNESSISTA. The green juice and gold powder are my favorites! Thank you so much for listening and for all of your support with the podcast! Please leave a rating or review if you enjoyed this episode. Whew, this episode is a ride and like not a great one. We have some great conversation about consent, abortion, and emotional labor, all of which are big topics, but mostly because this episode fails to actually have those conversations in its storytelling. Though we must say, this episode does have a few really great lines, and a great song was cut that we discuss in depth. Join us for this deep dive into the 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek! It's the last beautiful day of the season...or so Pacey thought. The Perfect Storm done Capeside style, this episode is action packed. We have Jen and Pacey in danger on the True Love; Joey, Dawson, and Drue thrown together for a school project; Dawson being totally oblivious to Joey's increasing panic. This is a great one, and showcases not only everything that we've been begging for for multiple seasons, but also sets so much into motion! It's the first day of senior year, and Pacey is officially not a senior, but he's not going to tell Joey because he's embarrassed. Mitch tells Dawson this for some reason and Dawson goes to Joey to tell her and it's a real nightmare. Meanwhile, Jack breaks up with Jen for Henry who has proven that he was not worthy of our time last year, and all in all, senior year is not starting great. We hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and sane. Hope we help you get through this week. Join us for this deep dive into the 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek! What happens after you sail off into the sunset? That's what we're talking about in Season 4 of Dawson's Creek. This week, Joey and Pacey come back from their trip and immediately start fighting, but is this the greatest fight ever? We love it. Dawson has the worst hair ever, and also is still hurt, but maybe has moved forward. Jen, Andie, Jack, and Dawson have been hanging nonstop this summer and we love it. We meet Gretchen Witter—a queen. And we get to discuss why the Real World New Orleans is involved with this episode. We hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and sane. At last the ship that launched a thousand ships is sailing into the sunset. Dawson tries to remind Joey of what they had before literally telling her she's free—and this is somehow not the end of their friendship. Jen, Jack, Andie, and Grams go on a wild Carpe Diem road trip so that Jen can apologize to Henry. Jack also goes to Ethan to kiss him and tell him that he's ready but it doesn't go as planned. Still, this is was such a huge deal at the time that we break it down for ya'll. Pacey and Joey finally get their happy ending and sail into the sunset on the ship True Love. And, of course, Dawson cries. Put on your life preservers and remember to ask permission before boarding. We're in for a wild ride! We hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and sane.
