From Bleu Nuit to Sex, Lies and Videotape to C.H.U.D. and everything in between, sometimes Nathan and our listeners have watched certain inappropriate movies at a far too young age. For September's episode, Mandy welcomes back Sects, Lies, and Videotape maven Gavin McDowell, who decided to take a very different approach from his last visit and assign Mandy a movie he was pretty sure (but not positive) she'd like: David Lean's 222-minute epic and perennial greatest-film-ever candidate Lawrence of Arabia. Tune in to hear the struggles of a parent trying to find three hours and forty-two minutes for a movie night, many musings on camel sartoriality, and whether Mandy did, in fact, enjoy watching two unbelievably gorgeous men make goo-goo eyes at each other for such a long time. There may also be discussion of the film.

A meticulously organized garage with labeled drawers for every type of nail and screw. A quiet family man who never raised his voice. A loyal employee of the family sprinkler business. This was the Jeffrey Gordon that everyone thought they knew – until police discovered what he'd been hiding between his mattress and box spring. When DNA technology finally connected Gordon to the brutal murders of Margaret Eby and Nancy Ludwig, investigators expected to find evidence of his crimes. What they discovered instead was a trophy collection so vast it would take weeks to catalog: approximately 1,200 pieces of women's underwear, many labeled with names, dates, and locations, hidden throughout his home, garage, and even behind his chimney. The man who appeared to be a model husband and father had been living a double life for decades as a voyeur and predator. The search revealed not just physical trophies but homemade videos filmed from hidden cameras in bathrooms, spliced together with movie scenes depicting sexual assault. Gordon had compiled his disturbing obsessions while maintaining his public persona as a quiet chess champion who helped his children with homework and attended church regularly. His own family seemed blind to the red flags – though his brothers privately referred to him as "the panty sniffer," they never reported his concerning behavior. Most troubling were the accounts from neighbors and acquaintances who had encountered Gordon's darker side years earlier. Multiple women reported finding him peeping in windows or discovering him in their homes, but when they informed his family, they were asked not to involve police. Despite previous imprisonment in Florida for similar offenses, Gordon had been protected by a wall of silence that allowed his behavior to escalate to murder. The Jeffrey Gordon case exposes how predators hide in plain sight, and how communities can enable their behavior through denial and silence. Listen as we unravel the investigation that finally brought him to justice and the shocking discoveries that revealed the true extent of his crimes. What other secrets might still be hidden in those meticulously labeled containers?Send us a text Support the show

In these pivotal middle episodes—"The Dark Defender," "Dex, Lies, and Videotape," "That Night, a Forest Grew," and "Morning Comes"—Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall, Six Feet Under, Safe) begins to feel the noose tightening around his double life. With the Bay Harbor Butcher case gaining national attention and Doakes (Erik King, Oz, National Treasure) growing more suspicious, Dexter must outmaneuver both the authorities and his own inner demons. As Dexter investigates his past and comes face-to-face with one of his mother's murderers, his connection with Lila (Jaime Murray, Spartacus, Warehouse 13) deepens—fueling chaos and impulsive decisions that threaten his bond with Rita (Julie Benz, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Desperate Housewives). Meanwhile, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Limitless) continues rebuilding her confidence after surviving the Ice Truck Killer, while Agent Lundy (Keith Carradine, Nashville, Deadwood) leads the task force hunting the Bay Harbor Butcher—unaware he's working alongside him. These episodes are packed with iconic and highly searched moments, including the “Dark Defender” comic book fantasy, Dexter's hidden camera dilemma, the explosive confrontation with Lila in Episode 8, and the increasing paranoia as Dexter's secret edges closer to exposure. The Bay Harbor Butcher case grows more intense, and Dexter's world teeters between control and collapse, setting the stage for the season's stunning conclusion. In this episode of Horror Hour with the Hanna's, we take a deep dive into American Psycho (2000), Mary Harron's razor-sharp adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's infamous novel. With Christian Bale delivering a career-defining performance as the impeccably groomed and deeply unhinged Patrick Bateman, this film slices into the heart of 1980s consumer culture, toxic masculinity, and moral decay—all with a wink and a blood-spattered smile. We explore the film's biting satire, stylish direction, and the ongoing debate: is Bateman a cold-blooded killer or just a delusional product of Wall Street excess? From the now-iconic business card scene to chainsaws and Huey Lewis, American Psycho continues to spark discussion 25 years later.Book Discussion: 15:30 - 26:11Follow Us on Instagram and TikTok: @horrorhourwiththehannasMusic by Aries Beats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPpnxLYrzVA

This is an encore presentation of a previous episode, originally airing in August 2023. --- The two sounds Tommy Prine says he remembers most growing up were having the AM radio on or his father (renowned singer/songwriter John Prine) workshopping tunes at the kitchen table. Journeying through adolescence, his eclecticism later manifested through acts like Outkast and System of a Down. But now, on the heels of This Far South — his debut album — Tommy has found his own unique voice that marries his mom's Irish wisdom and his dad's dry Midwestern/Southern wit. On today's show, Tommy shares why Radiohead's “Videotape” speaks to him, his experiences working with Nashville talents Ruston Kelly and Gena Johnson on This Far South, and how the artwork for this album feels like both an ending and a beginning. But Hogan's Heroes' Bob Crane lived a secret double life that very few people knew about. His custom-built pornographic paradises were hidden behind the closed doors of his dressing room and apartment. He was obsessed with extra-marital sexual exploits, and he documented them with cutting-edge technology. The joy he received from making people smile was matched only by his need to fulfill his darkest desires…a need that would end in murder. Send us a textHow do you make sense of the bizarre yet captivating world of Yorgos Lanthimos? That's what my brother Mike and I aimed to uncover in our latest Oh Brother Podcast episode. We kicked things off by wrestling with the perplexing narrative and stylistic choices in "Kinds of Kindness." While I couldn't get past the dissonant music and stilted dialogue, Mike helped me see the method in the madness by connecting it to Lanthimos's other works like "Poor Things" and "The Lobster." We also chatted about the stellar performances from Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, and how they navigate the unsettling territory typical of Lanthimos's films. From there, our conversation veered into the realm of shocking and artistic filmmaking, especially within a trilogy of films that left us both disturbed and intrigued. Themes of control, dependence, and sexual perversion took center stage, with unforgettable performances by Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, and Emma Stone. We couldn't help but compare these avant-garde movies to classics like "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Sex, Lies, and Videotape," ultimately finding a new appreciation for Lanthimos's nuanced storytelling, even if the explicit content continued to spark debate between us.To lighten the mood, we reminisced about a hilarious Saturday Night Live skit featuring Sean Hayes, Jimmy Fallon, and Will Ferrell. This set us off on a tangent about the role of absurdity and realism in film. We marveled at how dark material can unexpectedly be punctuated with humor, thanks to performances by actors like Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone. Wrapping up the episode, we gave a heartfelt shout-out to our loyal supporters, especially our friends from the Rexer Show. We raised our "Oh Brother" mugs in gratitude and shared our excitement for future episodes. POP LIFE EP. 32: WAS 1989 THE GREATEST YEAR OF CINEMA?

THIS IS REVOLUTION >podcast

Introduction:   When my good friend and fellow podcaster and radio host Kenzo Shibata hit me up and told me that he felt 1989 was the greatest year in film history, I thought that was a bold claim. Sure, I knew the original Michael Keaton *Batman* hit theaters that year, but beyond that, the details were a bit fuzzy. For many of us, especially those who came of age during the rise of home video, the lines between what was in theaters, what went straight to video, and what aired on cable often blur together. 1989 was a pivotal year—a moment when the cinematic landscape was rapidly changing, and the home video market was beginning to dominate how we consumed movies.   The year 1989 revitalized the superhero genre with Batman, saw Patrick Swayze transition from Dirty Dancing to playing the zen-like badass Dalton in Roadhouse, and introduced us to A-list actor Brad Pitt in the indie slasher Cutting Class. Christian Slater stepped into the spotlight as a teenage skateboarding detective in Gleaming the Cube, while Wes Craven tried to franchise another horror icon with Shocker.   Horror and comedy were in full swing that year, with Weekend at Bernie's giving us everyone's favorite dead uncle, and Disney making waves with The Little Mermaid. Robin Williams showcased his dramatic range in Dead Poets Society, while Denzel Washington delivered one of his most iconic scenes in Glory. Many believe that Spike Lee made a powerful statement with Do the Right Thing (I'm still trying to figure out what that “statement” is?), and James Spader broke away from his typical high school villain roles in Sex, Lies, and Videotape. Not to mention, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg brought us the third installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. And that's just scratching the surface!   So, grab your popcorn, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! We'll be diving deep into the films of 1989, exploring every genre, every standout performance, and every iconic scene. And don't forget—we'll be opening up the phone lines in the Champagne Room for you to chime in with your thoughts. What films did we miss? O'Marcaigh goes on to say Combs groped her, removed his clothes, and attempted to force her into oral sex. Another stewardess walked in on the attack, startling Combs and allowing O'Marcaigh to escape. O'Marcaigh claims Rodney Jones has audio recordings of Combs forcing himself on her. Sean Combs is named for aiding and abetting his son in the attack.    Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones' lawsuit alleges there is evidence of the sexual assaults and sex trafficking as hidden cameras record everything throughout Combs' homes, which is why homes in LA and Miami were raided. Combs' former bodyguard, Gene Deal, commented that if there are cameras in Combs' homes, there may be compromising video of “politicians and princes.” The claims are reminiscent of cameras Jeffrey Epstein allegedly used as an “insurance policy” against powerful friends like Prince Andrew. When 39 year old Bernie Tiede confessed to the murder of his friend and companion, 81 year old Marjorie Nugent in November 1996, the revelation came as a shock to the small town of Carthage, Texas. The two had been inseparable friends since the death of Nugent's husband in 1990 and as far as anyone in Carthage could tell, Nugent couldn't have picked a more devoted companion than Tiede. Yet as the details of the crime began to emerge, a strange story began to take shape—Tiede's supposed motive for the murder was to gain access to Nugent's fortune, but what he did with that money once he had access defied the logic and expectations of greed. The story of Bernie Tiede and Marjorie Nugent should have ended with the trial and conviction of Tiede, but a few years later, Bernie's story became the subject of a big Hollywood film, shining a spotlight on the story and raising new questions about the extent of Bernie's responsibility for the murder.
