Today on The Indo Daily, Tessa Fleming is joined by Maeve Sheahan, Senior Correspondent with The Sunday Independent, and Chalkie White, a former swimming student who has made allegations of abuse against George Gibney, to discuss how one of Irish sports darkest stories might be reaching a new chapter. This episode of The Indo Daily features discussion surrounding alleged sexual abuse and may not be suitable for everyone. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As we continue Season 5, Mike speaks with Alex Gibney (Agents of Chaos, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, Taxi to the Dark Side) about his documentary series for HBO Max, “Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos”. If you are familiar with Gibney's work, you will know that his documentaries often have a political topic or a political edge, so it won't surprise you that while he doesn't overly focus on it, he does explore the ways in which the legendary HBO series was a commentary on America. But the true pleasure of this documentary is to witness the incredibly deep ways that Chase's own life informed his work and–this may actually be connected–the ways that Chase used techniques that he learned from directors like Polanski, Lucci, and Kubrick to shape his own cinematic language. It's been well documented how much of this week was chaotic in the Dáil.A motion of no confidence is coming next week for Ceann Comhairle, and the Government will place confidence in Verona Murphy... all while, at least in the view of the public, not a lot else is being done. So, why would a new TD want to come into this?Sinead Gibney is Social Democrats TD for Dublin Rathdown, and is former Chief Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission. She joins Kieran to discuss.

In this episode we discuss A Generation of Sociopaths: How the Baby Boomers Betrayed America by Bruce Cannon Gibney. Jerry selected the book as a deep dive into the behaviors and societal impact of the baby boomer generation, a topic that both hosts had discussed in passing. The conversation explores Gibney's central thesis that baby boomers, as a generational cohort, have demonstrated extreme selfishness and short-sighted governance, prioritizing their own interests at the expense of younger generations and the country's long-term well-being.The hosts examine key arguments from the book, particularly how the economic and political power wielded by boomers led to policies favoring immediate personal gains over sustainable societal progress. They highlight examples such as fiscal irresponsibility, the erosion of public infrastructure, and the dismantling of social safety nets. The discussion also touches on how boomers' approach to wealth accumulation, corporate influence, and political decision-making has created financial and environmental burdens for future generations.Jerry and Stably engage in a critical analysis of whether Gibney's arguments are fair and balanced, debating the extent to which structural forces versus generational attitudes contributed to current societal issues. They reflect on personal anecdotes and historical contexts, considering alternative perspectives on intergenerational responsibility. The episode concludes with a discussion on whether younger generations can shift the trajectory set by boomers and what lessons can be learned from the book's analysis.

Arjun Singh interviews Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney about The Bibi Files, a new documentary he produced that uncovers explosive new police footage from the corruption trial of increasingly besieged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The podcast comes the same week the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu — and the U.S. Senate voted down a measure to block military aid to Netanyahu's government. The conversation touches on the broader implications of Netanyahu's actions, his role in the Gaza conflict, and how his leadership has contributed to widespread division within Israel. Gibney draws comparisons to other corrupt leaders he's documented, exploring the psychology behind political misconduct, right-wing authoritarianism, and the lengths some will go to stay in power.

Oscar-winning documentarian Alex Gibney is just as much of a ‘Sopranos' fan as you and I are. That's why he's turning his attention to ‘Sopranos' creator David Chase in his new two-part HBO documentary ‘Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos.' The doc looks at the origins of what inspired the Emmy-winning series and how it pulls from Chase's own life. Gibney joins Newsweek's H. Alan Scott to talk about ‘The Sopranos,' what surprised him about his chats with Chase, and yes, we talked about that iconic last episode too.
