By nature, all of us have the Child, Adolescent and Adult parts of ourselves...but these parts can look very different depending on our personality and life experience. Through the lens of the Enneagram, we can understand more about our personality and the ways we show up in stress and in health, and in this episode, Enneagram coach Ramona Reid breaks down how the wounds we received as a child affect our personality later in life. Our Enneagram type is often influenced by the message we did not hear as a child, and we form a personality or mask to make up for that wound. This might look like trying to be good and perfect, getting big and strong or trying to keep the peace with everyone around us, but it’s always an ego response. Ramona does a beautiful job tying the Enneagram into The Adult Chair model and helping each of us understand what our Child, Adolescent and Adult might look like based on our type. Listen to discover: The three Enneagram centers and the nine types The message each type didn’t receive as a child and the wounding each type carries The mask each type creates to cover that wounding What the core essence (healthy Adult) looks like for each type How to recognize our triggers and move towards presence This show was as cool as it was informative! Even if you have never heard of the Enneagram, you will benefit from listening as it will deepen your understanding of your wounding and how you are showing up in the world. If you want to listen to the other shows that Ramona has been on to deepen your understanding of the Enneagram, see the show notes below. They are all brilliant shows! “The point is not to never be triggered again. It’s to understand that triggers are human and they’re mine...I want to learn how to encounter them with more accountability and integrity and love for myself and my inner child.” - Ramona Reid “Everyone’s just sort of doing the best they can, and then we internalize that. When we’re little, we think, ‘This is about me,’ and we create separation from our essence.” - Ramona Reid “As children, we are sponges and absorb everything around us...and it becomes ours. It’s why you’ve got to observe everything and pay attention to what’s going on inside of you.” - Michelle Chalfant “The work from my perspective is getting in touch with what’s actually going on. Notice where our minds are going, where our hearts are going, out of presence...when we’re able to be present, that’s when our core essential qualities will show up.” - Ramona Reid Resources Ramona Reid Website http://www.mynashvillecenter.com Ramona Reid Radio Show http://www.holisticrevolution.com Episode #51: Find Your Authentic Self in the Heart of Your Enneagram https://theadultchair.com/podcast/51 Episode #114: Deepening The Adult Chair Using the Wisdom of the Enneagram https://theadultchair.com/podcast/114 Episode #205: Stress and Your Enneagram Type https://theadultchair.com/podcasts/205/ Book: Sacred Enneagram - Christopher L. The Enneagram is thousands of years old and is a powerful tool for personal transformation as well as a tool for empathy with even our most difficult relationships. The unique thing about the enneagram is that other personality tests tend to make you feel good and highlight your strengths. The Enneagram does not do that. I always say, “you’ll know what number you are when the description of it hurts your feelings.” This doesn’t work like a PLACEMENT EXAM. ANY number can be partners with ANY other number. And while we’re at it—any number can do any job THEY deem valuable and a good fit for them. So what exactly is it then, you ask? Great question. We’ll take a look at today:What is the enneagram? How does it work? Where does it come from? What are the ways we can use it? PLUS an overview of each number’s strengths, opportunities for growth, paths for development, and each number's “security blanket.” Resources mentioned: Books:The Road Back to You- Ian Morgan Cron & Suzanne Stabile The Paths Between Us - Suzanne Stabile The Complete Enneagram - Beatrice Chestnut The Sacred Enneagram - Christopher L. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

In this episode, the sisters discuss the Enneagram and the Five Elements, two different personality type/belief systems that have a lot in common. Enneagram is Greek for “nine-pointed figure” and the Five Elements comes from ancient Chinese culture. Both systems have helped us learn more about ourselves and the people in our lives, but they have also given us deep emotional language to talk about self discovery and spiritual growth. We hope you enjoy this episode and we hope that you check out some of the resources that have been most helpful to us.Learn the Five Elements from Dondi DahlinOther 5 Elements Sources:YouTube — 5 Elements Qigong Tutorialhttps://www.springforestqigong.com/spring-forest-qigong/121-theory-of-five-elementsEnneagram Resources:These are the resources that Naomi has relied on to learn more about the enneagram and my type. If you know who Chris Heuertz is, you are the right amount of obsessed with the enneagram. You will also be shocked to hear that he voluntarily guested on No Chill Enneagram. We can't explain it either. The enneagram works in mysterious ways. When you have someone as wise as Heuertz, you ask the important questions like "The enneagram is so hot right now, how annoying is that??" and "How can we become enneagram experts, in like the next 5 minutes, and could you get us a certificate or something?" PLUS: Chris explains why the number we ranked lowest in our first episode (so sorry) gets a bad rap. AND: We give Chris the opportunity to take over the show. Does he embrace unchecked power? Let's find out together... YOU WON'T BELIEVE: Chris types reviews with us, and masterfully so. Oh, and he says enneagram slang can happen, so that settles that.

The Critical Shift: Get Clarity, Find Success, Make an Impact
There is a lot of talk these days about being a serial entrepreneur, and many times it's overblown or exaggerated. But not in the case of today's guest, Dan Heuertz. Dan is an amazing guy who started his first business while he was still in college and by the time he finished up his undergrad degree he had 3 separate brick and mortar businesses running successfully - and was being featured in national business media. His early success has driven him to become more and to give more back, which is one of the biggest reasons he's a guest on the show. Take the time to listen to this one, you'll hear a very genuine and accomplished man describe how his path has taken him to the point he is today. Every serial entrepreneur has the bloody nose and scars that validate their accomplishments. The road to building a business is never an easy one. And for those like Dan Heuertz who have built many businesses over the course of their careers, the scars are many. But each one carried with it the lessons-learned that make the next venture more streamlined and successful, which opens the door to new opportunities. Dan has reached a point in his career where he's actively giving back, both through the business and success coaching he does and via the business projects he's working on that are aimed at revitalizing small midwestern towns like the one he grew up in. This is a fascinating conversation you won't want to miss. Poverty creates a certain kind of motivation. Couple it with a hard-working family and you have a winning formula. Dan Heuertz grew up very poor. He remembers the free lunch tickets he received from the local school district, the hand-me-down clothes he wore, and the embarrassment he felt about those things. That gave him a unique perspective on life, but it didn't result in the drive he possesses today without the example he saw in his Dad and Grandfather as they worked to make their trucking business a success. Dan says there is a certain truth to the observation that his experiences have made him who he is and in this conversation, he shares those experiences and how he views them in light of the success he's had. The valuable benefit of being a serial entrepreneur: Learning servant-leadership in a variety of settings. From his earliest business ventures, Dan Heuertz has been in the hospitality business. From bars to restaurants, to management companies that serve the hospitality business he's had a unique perspective on what it means to serve the customer. He says one of his most treasured leadership beliefs is about how true leaders serve not only their customers but their employees and teams as well. He believes that philosophy is what fueled the quick growth and unusual success he's been blessed to experience. In this conversation Dan shares why servant-leadership is powerful and how it impacts a business in a positive way, so be sure you listen. Revitalizing small towns through smart business developments. Dan Heuertz says that returning to small town America gives him a peaceful, centered feeling. It makes sense since he grew up in a small town himself. He's one of those guys who's able to see opportunity where others see nothing, and he's doing it again with his first hotel project - one he's building from the ground up in a small midwestern town. During this conversation, Dan shares how he's come up with the vision for revitalizing a small town through the construction of a hotel and how he's modified the typical hotel business model and is working with the town administration to make the project a win-win for himself and the community. He's an inspiring example of a successful serial entrepreneur who wants to make a difference with his success. Episode 12 with Chris Heuertz is all about his newest book, “Sacred Enneagram: Finding Your Unique Path to Spiritual Growth.” Chris is the co-founder of Gravity, a Center for Contemplation and Action. He speaks all over the world, leads retreats and was named one of Outreach Magazine’s “30 Emerging Influencers Reshaping Leadership.” Chris talks with us about the enneagram, self-reflection and doing deep inner work in our lives. While there are many books on the enneagram, Chris takes you beyond caricatures to how our enneagram type aligns with prayer postures which lead to spiritual growth. Join Alex McManus for interviews with activists, missional practioners, and thought leaders from around the world. Alex interviews Phileena Heuertz, author of "Pilgrimage of a Soul: Contemplative Spirituality for the Active Life", published by InterVarsity Press, July 2010. Activists often see contemplation as a luxury, the sort of thing that must necessarily be laid aside in the quest to see the world set aright. But in Pilgrimage of a Soul we see that contemplation is essential--not only to a life of sustained commitment to the justice and righteousness of God, but to the growth in faith and discipleship that the Holy Spirit beckons each of us to. Tracing seven movements from a kind of sleepfulness to a kind of wakefulness, Heuertz shows us that life is a journey that repeats itself as we are led by Christ deeper and deeper into our true selves and a truer knowledge of God.
