Biography Steve is an actor, writer, comedian, juggler, a "Gillard award" winning presenter on BBC Radio Lancashire and now a finalist on ITV's Britain's Got Talent 2020. Steve most recently completed his 17th consecutive pantomime at The Grand Theatre, Blackpool (and his 22nd Pantomime in total) and was also made an honourary member of The Friends Of The Grand in 2016 for his services to the theatre. Last year he starred, to critical acclaim, in the World premier tour of "Naturally Insane: The Life of Dan Leno" and is taking the show to the West End (Criterion Theatre). In 2015 he performed 16 nights at The Manchester Arena as part of the "Phoenix Nights Live" show, helping raise well over £ 5 million in the process. He also appeared at the London Palladium twice within a month later that year when he performed as part of the TV show "Sunday Night At The Palladium" and as warm-up for "One Night With Neil Diamond". He spent many years as "Special Guest" on Dave Spikey's Tours and has supported several other top comedic names including Peter Kay, Mick Miller, Roy Walker and The Lancashire Hotpots! He was also the first comic, ever, to act as "Warm-up" for The Royal Variety Show featuring Take That, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow and Meatloaf. He is a regular Television "warm-up" for programs such as "The Rob Brydon Show", "A Question Of Sport", "Mastermind" and even survived over 150 episodes of "The Price is Right" with Joe Pasquale a few years ago. Steve's first love, however, is Stand-Up and it is a job that has taken him all over the world: Cruises in the Med, Norwegian Fjords and the Caribbean, hotels and comedy clubs in Hong Kong, Dubai, Crete, Cyprus, Turkey and Japan. He is a regular headline act at The Comedy Store and other "alternative" venues and has several television appearances to his credit. "Phoenix Nights", "Max And Paddy's Road To Nowhere", "Peter Kay's Britain's Got The Pop Factor...", "Stand-up Britain", "Give Your Mate A Break", "The Afternoon Show", "Talk Of The North", a "Real Radio" advert, straight acting roles in "The Things You Do For Love" and "Magnolia", and despite being one of the North West's healthiest males, a medical insurance commercial for "Medicash". He was also featured on the Granada Programme "Behind The Scenes" and "That's Entertainment" (with Cannon and Ball) and was voted "Entertainer of the Year" at the inaugural Red Rose Awards. For over 12 years Steve could be found in the guise of "Mad Edgar" the court jester at Camelot theme park where he presented over 2000 "Crazy Juggling Shows". For years, the father-of-three has been encouraged by family and friends to audition for Britain's Got Talent, but didn't expect to get far. However in August 2020, Steve became the first act sent through to the final, impressing judges with his comedy juggling routines. For 51-year-old Steve, this is the latest journey in a rich history in the world of entertainment. Steve previously charmed the judges in the audition round, with his impressive juggling skills, using his mouth to juggle ping-pong balls before juggling three guitars. His semi final performance was a huge change for Steve, who is used to feeding off an audiences live reaction - the show had to be pre-recorded this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and social distancing, and saw Steve perform to a huge Zoom wall of viewers, as well as the shows judges. The judges unanimously chose to send him through. As Ant and Dec confirmed the news, Steve said it was "crazy and unbelievable" that he had made it through, although he left the entire panel in stitches. The grand final took place in October 2020 and Steve was placed third overall. Which was a wonderful conclusion to an amazing run on the show. And Steve is looking forward to seeing you on tour next year. So watch this space.

When a member of the Jewish community in London, Ont., recently decided to go through with medical assistance in dying (MAiD), it sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community. Some were angry and confused, others were sympathetic and supportive—and others felt mixed emotions, including the father of Jordi Mand, a playwright and screenwriter. Mand discussed the topic extensively with her father (and then her brother, and others), and soon came to realize how controversial the idea of medically assisted death was within Judaism. The emotional scenario set the stage for her latest play, In Seven Days. It tells the story of a woman who returns home to learn that her father has decided to end his life via MAiD in a week's time, leaving her, their family and even the local rabbi scrambling to try and change his mind before then. The production debuted at the Grand Theatre in London, and will come to the Meridian Arts Centre in Toronto by way of the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company from May 4-16, 2024. Ahead of the play's Toronto debut, Mand and director Philip Akin sat down with the hosts of Culturally Jewish for a frank talk about death, life, comedy and the nature of choice. And before that, the hosts discuss recent controversies in the Jewish arts world, including the poorly worded Oscar acceptance speech by the director of The Zone of Interest and the cancellation of next month's Hamilton Jewish Film Festival. Credits Culturally Jewish is hosted by Ilana Zackon and David Sklar. Our producer is Michael Fraiman, and our theme music is by Sarah Segal-Lazar. We're a member of The CJN Podcast Network. “People are dying from your fatphobia and that's wild. We are so hung up on the way theatre has looked forever that we can't change our perspective enough to literally save people's lives.”  TW: Discussion of eating disorders. I found Greg on TikTok. Greg is the founder of EveryBODY on Stage, which aims to break down stigma and fat-phobia in the arts. There is such multi-layered dialogue when it comes to each person's experience. Being a CoVid long hauler changed my body by gaining weight – and even when I find the positives and self love when it comes to myself, my body, and the industry, it's rooted in privilege.  And when it comes to weight and age – why is it that a bigger body in educational theatre equals playing someone older or someone not worthy of love? How does that affect someone in their formative years? Why is it we are praised for losing weight, even when it's done in an unhealthy way? Greg and I breakdown how fatphobia dominates the theatre industry, while shedding light on the people who are doing their best to fix this. Plus, we also get into how Funny Girl on Broadway battled responses based in fatphobia and anti-semitism and how as an industry, we need to move forward by communicating with kindness.  Please note – the group I talk about in the episode who's name slips my mind is The Industry Standard Group (TISG) who are innovating Broadway by finding new pathways toward equitable representation in commercial theatre. Also, use the code “MULTI” at the EveryBODY on Stage store for a discount at https://www.everybodyonstage.com/ “There is this narrative that a fat body is bad and ugly and gross. I'm done with that. I don't care if other people find me attractive because I don't need that anymore. I am happy in my body and I deserve to take up space in this body. So, like, I don't know… get into it society.”  Greg Carruthers (he/him, she/her) is a Toronto-based choreographer, actor and body-positive activist (@EveryBODYonStage). Hailing from Bradford, Ontario, Greg studied Music Theatre Performance at St. Lawrence College which recently nominated him for an Ontario Premier's Award. Greg has choreographed for Theatre Sheridan, Hart House Theatre, Canada's Wonderland, The Madinat Theatre (Dubai), and the July 1st ceremonies at Queens Park (Toronto). As a performer, Greg was most recently seen on the 1st National Tour of 'Trey Parker's Cannibal the Musical'. As the Artistic Producer and Founder of EveryBODY on Stage, Greg has produced projects for Musical Stage Co's “Musical Moments” and Buddies in Bad Times “Queer Pride Festival”. With funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, Greg conceived, choreographed and produced a short film titled "Cell Block Tango: Reimagined" which was screened as part of the Toronto Outdoor Picture Show. Greg is very excited to be choreographing "Into The Woods" at the Grand Theatre in London this fall as well as developing a new queer musical and a dance film. www.everybodyonstage.com  Instagram: @gregcarruthers  Learn more about your ad choices. Hailed as the “Punk Ballerina” by Vanity Fair, legendary dancer and choreographer Karole Armitage is the Artistic Director of the New York-based Armitage Gone! Dance Company.  After rigorous training in classical ballet, Armitage began her professional career as a member of Balanchine's Grand Theatre de Geneve. Soon thereafter she started exploring modern dance when she joined Merce Cunningham's company, performing leading roles in his landmark works.  In the mid-80's, she established her first dance company in New York City -- The Armitage Ballet. As both dancer and choreographer, Armitage began combining classical, modern, and street influences with a bit of punk, rock-n-roll, and rap mixed in. She quickly became notorious for her radical and avant-garde work.  Armitage has directed and choreographed groundbreaking ballets internationally, and for several years she served as Director of MaggioDanza, the Ballet of Florence, Italy. Armitage also choreographed two Broadway productions -- Passing Strange and Hair -- which earned her a Tony nomination.  In addition, we learn how she penetrated the Harlem Ball Culture and brought her experience to choreographing Madonna's Vogue tour.
