In this conversation, I talk with Nick Imprescia, the son of renowned throttle man Joey Imprescia, and Ian Morgan, Nick's longtime friend and driver of the 151 Express 450R Factory Stock class MTI offshore boat. We discuss what it's like being the “new kids” in the sport. We also talk about the pair's journey in the marine industry and the influence of their families on their racing careers, and their transition from racing a garage-built, low budget bracket class boat to competing in the ultra-competitive Mod-V and 450R Factory Stock classes with a fully funded and supposed race team. The conversation touches on their opportunities to learn from some of the best racers in the world like Shaun Torrente, who Imprescia and Morgan work for, John Tomlinson, and, of course, Imprescia's dad. The boys also share stories about attending Mercury service school, re-powering with the new 500 hp Mercury outboards, the importance of data analysis, collaborating with Patrick Weismann, and their fascination with How It's Made and MythBusters TV shows. Hello I'm Granger Forson WWW.Bizsmart-Gloucesterhsire.co.uk or on LinkedIn. This time on ScaleUp Radio I speak with Ian Morgan, the owner of MBS Accountants. MBS Accountants is a very different type of accounting business that are based in Cheltenham. It was started by Ian's wife in 2005, and Ian joined in 2010. As you will hear in 2015 they made a paradigm shift that has made the highly focused accounts firm they're today, that has a waiting list of business that wish to join them. The journey they have are still on, is to make a business that meets their needs and that of their staff and clients by putting people first. As always we cover a lot of ground, including: - Keeping things simple is key. Keep making things simpler and simpler. - Treating our Clients & staff as Humans, and using our know how to guide them. - Being Honest, is something people say, but how do you really demonstrate it every day? What is so fabulous about this conversation with Ian is how a crisis point created a pivot in MBS accounting that has lead them all on a amazing journey of discovery & growth. This episode of ScaleUp Radio is one of our monthly theme presentations and it's around planning - in particular three year planning. But before you switch off with images of 110 page business plans or worse in your mind, it's not about that at all. We all know that we should be doing our planning at least an annually but how many of us really hand on heart do it properly and think about it in the right way with the right people involved and then come out with some really good priorities for the year for example that we stick to? So what we take you through here is a simple way of getting to the point where you've got that sorted, not a big written business document, but ideally on a one page plan. So a nice simple way of doing it, and we look at some of the reasons why it's so important, and most importantly, how to go about it in a practical, pragmatic way that gets you to where you need to get to, because as small business owners, we don't want to spend all of our time with our head buried in spreadsheets and word documents. And we also have a couple of guests presentations from business owners and their experiences of the planning and how they go about it and why they found it so valuable. One is from Matt Busby, who is the founder and General Manager of the name Label company. And the other is Ian Morgan, who is the founder and director of MBS Accountants. They give some great insights as to how they go about planning within their businesses and the difference that it's made to them. So I think you're going to get a lot of value out of this session, and something that you can take away and really start to apply to your business. I certainly encourage you to do so and think about how you can really set your direction and then how you can keep on top of it and take yourself further with your business. As always, there are tools mentioned throughout the presentation. If you'd like a copy of them please email admin@biz-smart.co.uk Matt Busby can be found here: linkedin.com/in/matt-busby-79594b5 https://www.namelabelco.com/ matt.busby@namelabelco.com Ian Morgan can be found here: linkedin.com/in/ian-morgan-mbs https://www.mbsaccountants.co.uk/ Scaling up your business isn't easy, and can be a little daunting. This week on T.H.A.T I was in conversation with Ian Morgan @ian.morgan about the heart attack he suffered 7 years ago at the age of 46. Ian is an Ultra Runner who has an extensive family history that included a sister who has had 2 heart attacks. Ian describes himself as being overweight before his event of the heart and living with a lot of stress that stemmed from a difficult divorce and an earthquake that impacted him financially. Ian's memory is vague on exactly what happened but was told his EKG was normal, but his troponin levels were super high. The next day he was sent to a cardiac centre where it was discovered that he had 2 arteries blocked. To quote Ian “your second life begins when you realize you only have one”. The road to connection involves finding the truth about who each of us are. There are all sorts of tools out there that help identify our personalities, but how can these be useful in the sanctifying work of God in our lives? In this episode, Kevin and Paul continue their interview with Dr. Shannon Raikes and Enneagram Coach, Stacie Joiner, to learn from their experience working with the Enneagram and inner healing prayer. We hope you feel invited into greater self-exploration, which we believe will give you more grace with yourself and others. Ultimately, as we listen to the Lord about who we are, we move from isolation to greater connection. "It's too late for me. I'm too old to start." Have you ever used these excuses are barriers? Meet Ian Morgan, an ultrarunner who is crushing it in his 50s. And guess what? He didn't even start on this journey until he was in his mid-40s. Ian was primarily focused on his engineering career and property investment company in his 20s and 30s. Realizing that a primary focus on money, materialistic possessions, and career achievements wasn't making him happy, he took a 180 turn in his life. Ian said, " I was overweight, stressed, and unhappy with myself, so I started to run. This is where I discovered a passion for ultra running. Eventually, I sold everything I owned (Houses, cars, bikes, and all my furniture) and started living a more nomadic minimalist lifestyle, traveling the world and running 50 to 250 km plus ultra races in some of the world's wildest places." How did this happen? Starting as a proverbial couch potato to present day super-fit ultra runner (seriously, he ran a 2:50 marathon and as you just heard, he gets in some serious distance), Ian knows what it takes to claim responsibility for your life and make lasting changes. And to top it all off, he says you're never too old to get started. How many of us would think we could start our running career in our late 40s and early 50s? His current job is to run and he works with sponsors as a competitive lifestyle athlete and inspires thousands with his Instagram account. "Mental laziness is something that you can use as an excuse, but at the end of the day, I had to face myself and say "is that the person I really want to be?" I remember when I was a kid, I wasn't that way. I used to challenge myself, I used to push myself so I guess I went back to those childhood experiences, examined it and thought “what can I do now as an adult to bring that to the forefront, to push myself again?" Once I realized I had this propensity for mental laziness, I then know when it comes up, I know when I start telling myself those excuses, I can check myself and use that discipline, use consistency and start putting in the work." -Ian Morgan Listen Now Key Takeaways Who is Ian Morgan? The pandemic has resulted in canceled exams for hundreds of thousands of pupils across the UK. In their place, we have Teacher Assessed Grades; where teachers are using their professional and holistic judgment to determine the level that a student is performing at. On the face of it at all sounds relatively straightforward. However, as we get closer to the deadlines, and as teachers, students and parents grapple with the realities of not having terminal exams, a myriad of complexities and questions seem to be appearing. The most pressing one seems to be, how can we make sure that this process is fair, and the grading is consistent. This week, we're looking at the challenges facing teachers and indeed Exam boards in ensuring consistency across centers and students results. Nathan McGurl, founder of The Study Buddy is joined by Ian Morgan. Ian is the Chief Executive of WJEC, having joined the organization in 2002. WJEC is an exam board based in Wales, providing bilingual qualifications. And it's also responsible for the Eduqas brand, which runs qualifications across schools and colleges in England. He is also a board member of the Joint Council for Qualifications.

HELLO Everyone! Today let's dive into types 5, 6, and 7. I love talking about the enneagram. If you are new to this I would encourage you to take a test to find out your type https://www.truity.com/test/enneagram-personality-test Please take your time filling this out and not rush otherwise you could get the wrong answer. Your highest percentage is your core values and fears and type so use that result as your type. Another resource I highly recommend is the book "The Road Back to You" by Ian Morgan and buying your personal type book by Beth McCord! Some things I also encourage you to look up is the enneagram image so you can understand where you go during growth and stress in your life. -also note childhood trauma's for each type -also note relationships between each type Thanks so much for tuning in. Please subscribe and leave a 5 star review that would mean the WORLD TO ME! Love and appreciate each and everyone of you. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jessica-crawford4/support
I’m in conversation is with ultra runner Ian Morgan who’s based in Chile with his partner Fran. Ian led a conventional life in New Zealand before becoming an athlete, competing in international races. There were a number of significant life events including a heart attack which made him take stock and change direction to the life he leads today. We talk about these areas, the impact of CV19, and the lessons he’s learned in running and life. It was an open conversation and I’m grateful to share it. To listen to the podcast conversation it’s available on iTunes, Spotify and Anchor. Lifestyle Listener: Tackling Life One Conversation at a Time
Jessica and I talk a bit more about Spirituality this week and how self-compassion is a huge part of a spiritual practice, as well as a necessity for good mental health. It's hard to practice self-compassion when you live in a world that looks down upon it. Self-compassion also gets roped into negative terminology, such as narcissism or self-indulgence. But when practiced in the right mindset, self-compassion is a great tool to use for an overall healthy lifestyle. We give our own reasonings as to how and why we practice self-compassion, and ways you could incorporate this trait into your own daily routine. We also tie in self-compassion with another facet I like to use in my own healthy living routine, the Enneagram Test. The Enneagram has been traced back to the ancient Greeks, and is used widely today to help assess personality traits. It consists of 9 numbers on a scale that looks very similar to a geometric math problem. Based on a series of questions, you are "placed" into one of these number categories and you might even cross over into several numbers. It's a great tool to help you understand your own self, and to also understand the personality traits of the relationships around you. There are lots of websites promoting this particular test, and a source I like to reference back to for understanding and learning about the Enneagram is a book titled, "The Road Back to You," by Ian Morgan and Suzanne Stabile. It's available in print format from Amazon and Barnes and Noble, and is available in audio. There is also an entire podcast series dedicated to this book with some great interviews from guests. I suggest you check it out and learn about your own number! For more information about any of the concepts you hear in the podcasts, e-mail me at samantha@lifestylelistener.com or visit my website, www.lifestylelistener.com. I can also be found on Instagram (@lifestyle_listener), Facebook, and Twitter. And don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!!! It will keep you up to date on the latest health and wellness tips covered each week.

In this episode, the sisters discuss the Enneagram and the Five Elements, two different personality type/belief systems that have a lot in common. Enneagram is Greek for “nine-pointed figure” and the Five Elements comes from ancient Chinese culture. Both systems have helped us learn more about ourselves and the people in our lives, but they have also given us deep emotional language to talk about self discovery and spiritual growth. We hope you enjoy this episode and we hope that you check out some of the resources that have been most helpful to us.Learn the Five Elements from Dondi DahlinOther 5 Elements Sources:YouTube — 5 Elements Qigong Tutorialhttps://www.springforestqigong.com/spring-forest-qigong/121-theory-of-five-elementsEnneagram Resources:These are the resources that Naomi has relied on to learn more about the enneagram and my type. I highly recommend checking out The Enneagram Institute website as it provides a great history to the origin of the enneagram and how we have came to learn about it. The Wisdom of the Enneagram is practically a textbook. If you are interested in digging into the nitty gritty details of your type, this book is for you. The Road Back to You on the other hand is a much lighter read that provides a great scope of the enneagram complete with plenty of anecdotes. If you want to do deeper into contemplative practice and engaging with your enneagram type then The Sacred Enneagram is the choice for you.-Riso, Don Richard., and Russ Hudson. Alexander Doll is the CEO of Barclays Germany and the Head of Banking for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Prior to his role at Barclays, Mr. Doll served as a Managing Director of Financial Advisory Business at Lazard. Mr. Doll joined Lazard after eight years with UBS. His previous experience also includes working for Lehman Brothers in New York and Frankfurt. For the full show notes please go to: http://www.thewallstreetlab.com/ Have you asked yourself what the best-case scenario for your career would be? I mean, if everything goes extremely well – you get along with your colleagues, you become a well-known and recognized expert in your field, you are being nicely rewarded financially for what you do - what would that look like for you? Will you be a CEO of a company? Or perhaps a successful investor or run your own business? Regardless of what your answer is, there is one thing we can agree on - to get there, you are going to work extremely hard at it. You must master multiple skills, not only on the technical side of your craft, but also your interpersonal abilities. And, as we have heard from so many previous guests on our podcast, you are going to have to truly love what you do – “do it for the love of the game”, as Steven Gerbel said. There is one thing that all guests on our show have in common – they have achieved a level of “success” that most of us can only dream of. We believe that, whenever you have a chance to talk to someone who has “been there”, regardless of the field they are in, we should all stop and listen, as we all stand to learn something new from them. In fact, there is nothing stopping any of us from finding someone we admire and asking for 30 minutes of their attention. These overachievers are usually genuinely nice people who are more than willing to share their wisdom with eager souls looking to grow in their careers. This is exactly what Luke and I do with our interviews – the only difference is that we bring our audio recorder with us. Maybe all you are missing is an audio recorder! Today is one of those days when we tell ourselves – “we are so glad to have recorded this”. In this wide-ranging conversation, you will get a glimpse at what it is like to be the regional CEO of a global investment bank. You will soon realize that you cannot climb the corporate later at an investment bank if you are not both good with the numbers, but most importantly, good with clients. Mr. Doll also tells us the differences between the M&A markets in Europe vs. the US, what he looks at when interviewing job candidates, and much more. And now to the show notes! 1:40 How Mr Doll explains what he does 2:30 The story of how Mr doll started out in finance 04:45 How does Mr Doll's typical day look like 06:25 current developments in the M&A markets 07:50 differences between the investment banking environment in US and EU 09:54 What is the most important aspect when analysing an M&A deal? 11:40 Specialization, industry experts and their role in investment banking 12:55 What has changed the most since Mr Doll started out in investment banking? 14:30 How does Mr Doll deal with the information overload 16:20 News outlets that Mr Doll follows 16:50 Three pieces of advice to the younger self 18:50 Favourite mistake 19:20 A person who shaped Mr Dolls life 20:25 on mentorship 21:50 on importance of education and designations 23:00 Outside of work what takes the majority of your time? 24:50 If you could… What book would you make employees at your company read? 25:25 Daily Routines? 26:02 What questions would you ask in a job interview? 26:30 What is something that you believe to be true that most people do not believe to be true? 28:00 Is there anything you would like to leave our audience with? If the interview was valuable to you, make sure to take a few seconds to leave us a 5-Star review on iTunes. Stay tuned!
