Kim O, coach and founder of HeartWorkU, joins me today to share wisdom on compassion, healing, parts work, spirituality, resilience, and the Enneagram. We discuss her journey from 30 years as a hairstylist to becoming a coach and her decision to leave her Master's program in Counseling Psychology due to ideological differences.Kim presents her research on detransitioners and the lack of acknowledgement from the American Psychological Association (APA) on this topic. She emphasizes the importance of belief and resilience in her coaching practice, and how she helps clients separate their higher self from their wounded ego or inner child.Kim explains her approach to coaching, which focuses on helping clients witness their feelings and hold space for them. She believes in the power of self-love and teaches clients to understand that they are resilient and have the answers within themselves. We also explore the differences between counseling and coaching, highlighting the importance of ethics in counseling and the relational aspect of both roles, as well as how Internal Family Systems and the Enneagram help us in our work with clients.Kim shares her personal journey of healing from childhood trauma and the impact it had on her identity. On Today's Monday Motivation, Corry discusses APPRECIATION with Chris Heuertz. Chris Heuertz has spent his life bearing witness to the possibility of hope among a world that has a legitimate reason to question Divine goodness. Originally from Omaha, he attended university in Kentucky before moving to India, where he volunteered alongside Mother Teresa for three years. While in India, he helped launch South Asia's first pediatric AIDS care home — creating a safe haven for children impacted by the global pandemic. In 2012 Chris helped launch Gravity, a Center for Contemplative Activism. He also published two best-selling and award-winning books: The Sacred Enneagram: Finding Your Unique Path to Spiritual Growth (2017) and The Enneagram of Belonging: A Compassionate Journey of Self-Acceptance (2020). In addition, Chris hosts the chart-topping podcast Enneagram Mapmakers (https://enneagrammapmakers.podbean.com/), where he facilitates candid and vulnerable conversations that chart the unexplored interior landscape of the ego. In this first fall 2021 riff, I share about the way we all are investing, whether we have a financial adviser, stocks, ETFs, mutual funds or a retirement account or not. We all trust others with valuable things and we all hope that we get a return of some sort on that which we have entrusted. We also invest in ourselves, too. It's about making sound investments and being patient as the valuable things we have invested do work in the vest pocket of the one in whom or in which we've in"vest"ed. I mention Chris Heuertz's book The Sacred Enneagram in this podcast, in which he explores the power of silence, stillness, and solitude--it's worth a read, in my opinion! In this episode of Enneagram Mapmakers, Chris Heuertz interviews the author of The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram and The Enneagram of Passions and Virtues, Sandra Maitri. During their conversation, Sandra reflects back on the role she played as a university student in helping develop Enneagram Types with Claudio Naranjo with his first SAT groups. She also explains how the popular Enneagram theories of “integration” and “disintegration” are actually misunderstandings. Sandra Maitri is an artist, an author, and an Enneagram teacher. She was among the first group of students to whom the Chilean psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo presented the Enneagram system in the United States in the early seventies. She is currently a supervising teacher of the Diamond Approach® to Inner Realization.
This is the last episode of Season 1 of Enneagram Mapmakers where Chris Heuertz interviews Russ Hudson, the co-founder of the Enneagram Institute and co-author of The Wisdom of the Enneagram. Russ addresses the divide between the Enneagram of Personality and the Gurdjieffian studies of the Enneagram, his friendship and working relationship with the late Done Riso, and Russ also candidly shares his own introduction to the Enneagram and his story of mistyping himself. The show concludes with Russ reflecting on his hopes for the future of this teaching and the movement that's grow around it.

As we enter this new decade, I thought it would be fun to talk to a few friends and reflect back on what life was like 10 years ago. In these conversations, you’ll hear guests speak about what God has done in their life, their dreams and goals, things they would have done differently, and things they’re most proud of. And, looking back always causes me to look forward, so we’ll also chat about dreams for the next ten years! My guest today is Chris Heuertz. Chris is an instigator for good, a champion of collaboration, and a witness to hope. He teaches the Enneagram in workshops around the world and has authored 5 books including the award-winning and best-selling book, The Sacred Enneagram and recently released, The Enneagram of Belonging. In today’s episode, we chat about Chris’s last 10 years. We touch on his time in India as a young adult where he was mentored by Mother Teresa and how he helped launch South Asia's first pediatric AIDS care home. He shares his journey with the Enneagram and contemplation and how they have affected the deep soul work he’s involved with -- especially in the era of COVID-19. Chris also dives into his new book, The Enneagram of Belonging which aims to help us develop an honest relationship with our type, confronting our "inner dragons," practicing self-compassion, and thereby coming to fully belong to ourselves--and, ultimately, to love itself. I’ve been sitting with his words, “The world is changing in real time.. and being present is pregnant with the potential with every moment we may be given to us in the future.” and, friends, I have a feeling you’re going to want to listen through this episode more than once. Be sure you check out Chris’s new book, The Enneagram of Belonging: A Compassionate Journey of Self-Acceptance. Chris Heuertz and I talk about the Enneagram which he describes as a "compassionate sketch of possibilities that shows us who we can become if we remember what our souls' created purpose was." I think Chris's power as a teacher comes from his compassion, his deep understanding of how fear works in our lives, and his own healthy skepticism about things that seem too easy and too reductive.
In life, if we can’t self-observe, we can’t self-correct. In today’s conversation, we’re going to take a deep dive into an angle of the Enneagram we’ve not yet talked about here on the show, and that’s the core need for belonging. Today’s guest, Chris Heuertz, says, “We often live with a muscle memory of limitation that doesn’t believe we have the potential to be strong and courageous in life.” It’s easy to run from (or ignore) the aspects of our personality that we don’t like, instead of running to them in truth to find meaning and experience transformation that will ultimately shape us to be the people we’ve been designed to be. Belonging is about integration, and that’s where we’re headed today. Episode Links: Chris’ Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Buy “The Enneagram of Belonging” on Amazon! This week I had the distinct privilege of sitting down with Christopher Heuertz and discussing his brand new book, The Enneagram of Belonging: A Compassionate Journey of Self-Acceptance. Chris's work has been instrumental in my own journey of self-love and so it was a real honour to drill deep into some core philosophical aspects of the Enneagram (including some of the ways people frequently misapply the tools), followed by a review of the new language he gives us in this book. If you have ever felt frustrated or put into a box by the Enneagram, you'll find some things here that I hope will be helpful and freeing for you.UPDATE: I am aware of claims against Chris Heuertz and I have done my best to investigate the issue as far as I am able. You can read about these claims here, along with Chris' response to them, and the response of an investigation by the board of directors of the Gravity Institute. I have chosen to keep Chris' interview here as I believe the material is helpful. Look, here's the deal: sometimes we're overcome by a global pandemic. Happens to the best of us. And then you know how it goes. You find yourself trapped in your home for literal MONTHS on end, and in the meantime you realize that everything you thought you knew about humanity and community and social assumptions is wrong. All of that happens. So who you gonna call? Chris Heuertz, of course! He's the author of just-released The Enneagram of Belonging, and the host of the brand new podcast that was accidentally perfectly timed for the pandemic: Enneagram Mapmakers. Okay, but what would you talk to Chris about, if you had the chance? Maybe you'd just want him to tell you it's going to be okay, or more importantly, that YOU are okay, right now as you are. Maybe you want to ask him "Enneathought is out of control, right??" and hear what he has to say. Or maybe you need him to help you empathize with Captain America. Because it's hard for everyone right now. Even superheroes need a break.
Chris Heuertz: Enneagram teacher, writer, badass, and all-around good guy. He is co-founder of Gravity, a center for contemplative activism, alongside his amazing wife, Phileena Heuertz. I get to talk with him about quarantine, religion, his new book The Enneagram of Belonging (releases May 19th), NetFlix, and what it's like to be labeled famous, or as he says "infamous".Follow me on IG:@thevanessariveraFollow Chris on IG:@chrisheuertzResources:The Sacred Enneagram By Chris HeuertzThe Enneagram of BelongingBy Chris HeuertzMusic by: Eric Barnharthttps://www.ericbarnhart.com

Life in this world of ours is such a “both/and". It can be beautiful and wonderful AND it can be so disappointing, confusing, and hard. Sometimes all at the same time! Pretty much everyone will, at some point, experience a difficult season and find themselves struggling through a time of discouragement, loneliness, betrayal, anxiety, sadness, grief, and the list goes on…sometimes it just isn’t easy to persevere through. So, I started this podcast to remind us all that even in the midst of of the mess, there IS hope to be found. We can help each other fight for joy and encourage one another to keep pressing forward in hope. Season 2 is all about how to do that… Most of the tools that I have been having my guests highlight are tools that I implement in my own fight for joy as well, and this episode is no exception. My guest today is Chris Heuertz, and among the many other hats that he wears (author, speaker, non-profit consultant, and activist to name a few), Chris is an Enneagram teacher and coach. I wanted to highlight this tool because of how helpful it has been to me in grief. I realize that for some of you, this may be the very first time that you have ever heard the word Enneagram. It’s still fairly new to me too. But as I’ve learned about it and therefore learned more about myself and others, its been a helpful tool in my life, especially in relationship to my grief. Three main things come to mind in regards to WHY and HOW it has been beneficial for me. First, it’s pushed me to have more compassion towards myself - especially in recognizing my tendencies in stressful times and what I am prone to when life is hard. Oftentimes we can wonder, “Why am I responding like this? Why did I react that way? Why is this bothering me and it doesn’t seem to be bothering her?” Learning about my specific dominant type has caused me to better discern how I become discouraged and the lies that I am tempted to believe when I’m struggling. It's also helped me to grow in appreciation for my strengths and the things that I contribute to the world and to my relationships, both in happy times and in difficult times. I’ve just been kinder to myself and more grateful to God for the ways that He has uniquely designed me - and also more motivated to mature, develop, and transform in more Christ-like ways. Secondly, I’ve grown tremendously in understanding and in compassion towards others. I’ve been especially grateful for the insight the Enneagram has provided into the various ways that each of us living here in the Blick house might tend to process and deal with heartache and pain. All 5 of us lost Jackson, but each of us have had a markedly different journey in grief these last 6 years. I’ve also found myself better able to extend grace and patience to the people around us who have wanted to walk with us in our sorrow (and honestly, towards those who haven’t). As I better understand why different people are responding in different ways, I can better appreciate what they ARE bringing to the table and look to them for help and friendship in the natural ways that they are wired, appreciating their strengths and perspective, and letting go of expectations that might be unrealistic for the way that God has uniquely created them. And lastly, the Enneagram has given me such a bigger picture of God…his creation, his glory, and his holiness. His greatness is powerfully reflected in the special and unique ways that He has created and wired each one of us and the personal ways that He meets us and loves us. I really think you will enjoy hearing from Chris today. He is such a thoughtful voice in this world. I was so honored to have this time with him and excited to share another practical tool that may help you fight for joy!

The enneagram is one of the most popular tools for understanding personality. It's become a frequent topic of conversation, the subject of endless memes, jokes, and lighthearted discussion. But while these things are fun, they barely begin to scratch the surface of what the enneagram has to offer. The depth of this powerful tool reflects the nuance and complications of what it means to be human. Chris Heuertz, author of The Sacred Enneagram, returns to the podcast to dive into the deeper side of the enneagram, how it reflects more variety than just the nine types suggest, and what this means for us when we walk through painful seasons.
On 4.28.19, Chris Heuertz guided us in an examination of why we engage contemplative practices and led us in a lovingkindness contemplation.
This week on the podcast, we talk with author and pastor Aubrey Sampson about her book The Louder Song: Listening for Hope in the Midst of Lament. She is also the author of Overcomer: Breaking Down the Walls of Shame and Rebuilding Your Soul.Aubrey writes for Propel Women and is currently earning her Masters degree in Evangelism and Leadership. She and her pastor-husband Kevin have three hilarious sons--which is to say there's a lot of Fortnite, Marvel, and Arsenal Football Club noise on in the background of her life. Connect with Aubrey at www.aubreysampson.com or @aubsamp.We talked (again) about the wonderful book The Critical Journey: Stages In the Life of Faith and if you're curious about the Enneagram you can read Chris Heuertz's (husband of otherWISE guest Phileena Heuertz!) book The Sacred Enneagram: Finding Your Unique Path to Spiritual Growth.Music written & recorded by Robert Ebbens.Cover art by Eric Wright/Metamora Design.
