"When we make a decision about something that matters to us, we will always experience fear. It's how we're wired as humans. Fear is our brain's way of informing us, “Something important is at stake here.” We can try to avoid fear by telling ourselves we need to be completely sure about what we're doing. But as long as we care about what we're doing or how it turns out, our fear will never go away completely. The opposite of fear isn't certainty; it's apathy."Leave a comment for Holley: https://incourage.me/?p=251313--For moments of bite-sized encouragement, the new DaySpring Daily Devotional Bible for Moms is just the ticket. When you are focused on a task, interruptions can be annoying and maddening. Yet, there may be a positive side to interruptions that balance out the negative. This episode begins with some surprising research the suggests there is a silver lining to being interrupted. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/08/210803175253.htm What determines whether you are an introvert or extrovert? Is one better than the other? Can you change which one you are? Are all introverts shy? These are just a few of the questions I tackle in my conversation with Holley Gerth. Today I welcome Holley Gerth, who advocates for pursuing hope in the midst of pain and grief. We need to recognize the need to grieve losses, big and small – including losses of our dreams, and losses in relationships. Peace stems from surrendering to God's will, rather than fixating on specific outcomes. So, we ask: how do we transition from controlling outcomes, to finding peace in God? We discuss the pivotal role of faith in understanding and working through the pain and unmet expectations in life. How do we navigate the process of transitioning from a broken narrative to a new story under the guidance of God? Holley shares five profound questions aimed at advancing the healing process, focusing on identifying and challenging the lies believed, embracing the truth that God desires to instill, and crafting a new life narrative infused with hope and grace. This approach offers a roadmap to find peace and healing in the midst of our struggles. Additionally, we acknowledge the significance of acknowledging and grieving everyday, smaller griefs, emphasizing the human need to surrender and find solace in God during these moments. Holley offers a brand new course on overcoming heartache, tailored for anyone struggling with grief, and those supporting others through similar experiences. The course particularly resonates with individuals facing relational grief, offering practical guidance to navigate the journey from hurt to healing, drawing from Holley's personal experiences with trust issues and subsequent healing. This highlights the transformative power of pain and the potential to become healers ourselves, a concept that can bring hope to many navigating their own healing journeys. If you are interested in this course, remember to sign up for the Gospel Spice newsletter to receive an exclusive 25% discount code on this course at https://www.gospelspice.com/signup We want you to remember this in your grief: amidst the struggles of pain and grief, there lies an opportunity to find lasting peace in surrendering to God's will. BONUS | FIVE QUESTIONS TO PROGRESS TOWARDS HEALING Holley provides a roadmap for healing through these 5 questions: 1. What lies have I believed? 2. What truth does God want to replace them with? 3. What is the new story that God has for me? 4. What unmet desires and expectations do I need to address and grieve? 5. How can I surrender these to God and find peace in His plan? "Our great and tender God is not trying to force you to maximize your life. His rhythm is one of love and grace at a pace that won't destroy your soul. He's not asking you to try harder or do more. "If you've seen where God's goodness and grace have carried you through in the past, that same goodness and grace will meet you again. For all of the blessings and miracles that God had done, He knew that the Israelites were prone to forgetfulness. We forget, too. It's so easy to focus on what is missing, broken, or changed in our lives that we forget God's blessings or minimize them in our minds."Leave a comment for Barb: https://incourage.me/?p=239457--Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "The only thing that limits the Lord from working in my life is my lack of trusting Him. When we face circumstances that don't make any earthly sense, God doesn't want us to ask how. He wants us to say, “I don't know how and I don't have to know how, because my God is faithful and capable.” I needed to remember that the Lord is for me. If He is for me, then what can possibly be against me (Romans 8:31)? Just because I don't know how, doesn't limit the Lord."Leave a comment for Tyra: https://incourage.me/?p=239368 --Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "The world needs what you have to offer. We need the one and only you. I want to be so comfortable in my skin that I don't over-analyze, sanitize, or hide who I am and what's important to me. The older I get, the harder it's become to pretend to be what I'm not, and the more I recognize (and try not to rebel against) who God made me to be. And God certainly didn't create us with a one-size-fits-all mold. We're weird, quirky misfits who love what we love and dislike what we dislike. We're so unique God has numbered the hairs of our heads (Matthew 10:30). We're as individual as snowflakes in a winter sky, yet we intersect and overlap in delightful ways."Leave a comment for Dawn: https://incourage.me/?p=239372--Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "God's plans for our lives are invincible when we stay connected to Him. Let's cling to God's promises. Hold tight to His heart. Have strong roots that burrow deep into His affection for us. We will not falter. We will not fail. We will not lead a barren life at any age. Psalm 92:14 CSB says, “They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green.” Yes, we will be women of beauty, growth, and blessings as long as we live. Because we are trees planted by the river of God's love, and it will never run dry."Leave a comment for Holley, and enter to WIN a copy of the new Summer Edition of Everyday Faith Magazine: https://incourage.me/?p=239450--Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "There is only One whose sacrifice purchased a freedom we can't lose. Today I honor the lives of men and women who lost their lives in war, not just in the United States but around the world. I will look at the black-and-white photos of my father and grandfather with respect, and I will call my son and daughter-in-law to let them know how much I love them. Even so, I remain cognizant and tender toward the myriad of ways this world and its wars cut and wound us. Ours is a world in need of healing, a people in need of a freedom we can't secure no matter how loud we scream or how hard we fight. We need more than warriors or weapons or even our own wisdom can achieve for us. We need a Savior. Hallelujah, we already have Him."Leave a comment for Michele: https://incourage.me/?p=239301 --Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. Has God ever answered, "No" to one of your prayer requests? Did you have a hard time accepting when God's answer was "No." I don't know about you, but I think that is a really hard one when we pray fervently, and God does not answer with the way we want him to. I remember that with my friend, we were praying for a miracle for her to be healed, but sadly she wasn't. It was really hard to accept that "No". I am excited to have Hadassah Treu on the podcast this week because she is going to share her story of a time when she had to accept when God answered, "No." I think it is a very powerful episode. "We serve a God who cares more about the quality of our faithfulness with what He's given us than the quantity of our accomplishments. He isn't asking us to do as much as we possibly can; He is asking us to say “yes” to what He asks us to do with what He's entrusted to us. He isn't looking for more people to have big platforms; He is searching for humble hearts willing to do little things with great love. God is not comparing us to anyone else, He is always and only inviting us to become more like Jesus."Leave a comment for Holley: https://incourage.me/?p=238364--Encourage all the moms in your life with heartfelt messages of God's love! "If our hope rests in Jesus alone, we will not be disappointed. If I place my hope in an outcome — a prayer I want answered or a healing I want delivered — I will end up disappointed. “You will have suffering in this world,” Jesus says (John 16:33). That's the bad news in no uncertain terms. None of us will escape the pain of the human condition. It's part of the deal. However, Jesus didn't end with the bad news. “But take heart! I have overcome the world,” He promises (John 16:33). Jesus — the flesh-and-blood presence of God Himself — is our good news. He is our hope, our answered prayer to all prayers. And if our hope rests in Him alone, we will not be disappointed."This story was written by Michele Cushatt, and published in the Create in Me a Heart of Hope Bible Study: https://incourage.me/?p=238396--Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "Let's put our focus on the real treasure, the things that last forever. I want what I do on Earth to last for eternity. I don't think there is anything wrong with having nice things or staying in amazing places, but possessions and vacations won't last forever. Those things don't make a difference in eternity. Only the things we do for the kingdom of God will last forever. Our careers, hobbies, homes, and cars will not last. They are just pieces of land we must be willing to sell for the real treasure God has for us. "This moment, right now, is your opportunity to seek refuge in your Heavenly Father. "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." Psalm 34:8 NIV Today, I want to encourage you that no matter how impossible your situation may seem, this moment, right now, is your opportunity to seek refuge in your Heavenly Father. It's the Lord's personal invitation for you to “taste and see” His goodness through eyes of faith and believe with your heart that your circumstances don't define His goodness; rather, His goodness is His character. Remember, He is always there in your darkest hour, working miracles and making a way for you. He promises you hope and a bright future as He authors your story. Your miracle is in the making."Leave a comment for our new contributor, Ligia: https://incourage.me/?p=238179 --Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "Like the kind nurse who set her schedule aside when I needed her comfort, like the exasperated intern in the hall who saw my tear-stained face and realized there was a reason for our delay, I try to remember that our most important, loving actions on any given day are often when we let ourselves get interrupted by God. We might never feel ready, but Jesus shows up anyway. What a gift when we remember that we can show up with compassion for each other, too."Leave a comment for our new contributor Laura: https://incourage.me/?p=238250 --Discover the secret to meaningful conversations, strengthen your relationships, and become an encourager to those around you. "My story isn't over yet, and I choose to trust the Author even when I don't know what's coming. I recently met two friends for coffee, and all three of us talked about unexpected shifts in our lives. Some personal. Some professional. All stretching us in uncomfortable ways. I said, “One of the only certainties in life is change.” When I remember this, it helps me resist change less, and instead expand to make space for it. The changes I've loved most and the ones I've hated have both led to growth. This doesn't make me like change, but it does give me hope."Leave a comment for Holley: https://incourage.me/?p=237309 --Did you know that the season of Lent begins this week? "It is healthy and holy for joy and grief to coexist. It is essential, not sinful, for us to feel sad sometimes. It is necessary, not a lack of faith, for us to mourn what or who we've lost.It is healthy, not harmful, for us to shed tears as we figure out a new normal we never wanted. Just because the sun goes behind a cloud doesn't mean it isn't still there. Just because our joy can't be felt for a while, doesn't mean it isn't still there. We are not in trouble with God for not being able to force ourselves to be happy all the time. We are human and we are healing -- this is hard and holy work."Leave a comment for Holley: https://incourage.me/?p=236376--Join us on Thursday, December 21st for the premiere of DaySpring's Christmas movie, Miracle in Bethlehem, PA, on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries! "We can trust God with our hopes, with our fragile hearts, with our deepest hurts. I hope in a God whose character remains the same no matter what happens. I hope in the promise that I'm part of a purpose and plan bigger than I can see. Hoping in isn't meant to be used as a spiritual cliché or holy Band-Aid. It's not for the faint of heart. It's an anchor, a foundation, a still place our souls can go while the hurricane of hurt swirls around us."Leave a comment for Holley: https://incourage.me/?p=235518--Become an (in)sider!
