“I don't like dropping out of races, I feel like when you drop out once, then mentally, it's bad for you. I always make sure I finish, even if I'm crawling through the line” – Mo Hashi, track and middle-distance runner How do you know when you've got your pace right? We spoke to track and middle-distance runner Mo Hashi about how to get your timings just right during a tempo run with him at Bushy Park. He may not think it, but Mo Hashi is fast, the track and middle-distance runner, who uses his spare time to compete in competitions up and down the country, has a current 5K PB at 14 minutes 35. But what motivates him to get out on the track and how hard does he push himself? Here, we talk to him about his training style, being a body double for Mo Farah and training to the point of vomiting. You can hear Mo's full conversation on the Big Run podcast sponsored by exhale. Join me for post run chats with with track and middle-distance runners like Mo, along with GB runner Holly Rush, and ultra runner Mark Kerry. Thanks for listening Danny

She went on to come 8th at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and has represented GB at the World Mountain Championships twice winning team silver and bronze. In this episode I talk to Natasha Acres, the founder of Earth Runs. There are several brilliant things about Tash. First off, she's the brains behind Earth Runs; this virtual running initiative plants trees according to the number of miles you run. And, if you wish, you can further reward yourself with one of her truly original, and very magnificent seed bomb medals. Secondly, because this initiative is truly awesome, and because she managed to cobble together an entry at the very last minute, Tash is the hugely surprised recipient of the first Brooks Run Fund, which was launched earlier this year. This global initiative was set up to celebrate the power of running, with a fund to reward big ideas that benefit our communities and our environment. Something which Earth Runs literally does in spades. The fund that Tash won is $100,000. Obviously she is giddy with it. And she talks to me here about how and why she set up Earth Runs, what she's going to do with the cash, and how she wants to continue spreading her very achievable message that we can all make a little bit of difference, that we can combine making those differences with our running, and that those differences all add up to a very big change. She is an inspiration. And I do so love talking to women who have very appropriate names, don't you? We've had Sophie Power, Mel Bound, Holly Rush – and now Tash Acres, with her brilliantly tree-focussed name. Not quite sure how I can top that – if you can think of anyone from the world of running that has a name that fits what they do, then let me know so I can add to my Mr Biff the Boxer list.Podcast listeners can claim the best discount we have for membership to Women's Running, which is 35% off. 2020 was a year of many unexpected twists and turns. At the start of the pandemic, many of us were left asking....what does this all mean? When will it end? Is life ever going back to normal? The lack of certainty day to day left us feeling overwhelmed, stressed and anxious. And I knew I wanted to help. The 30in30 challenge was designed as a social networking outreach effort. To create new connections during an unprecedented time and to help those new connections navigate uncertainty and emerge on the other side with a greater sense of clarity and calm.To get things going, I tapped 30 colleagues in my network and asked them to introduce me to 30 people in theirs who could benefit from professional support. Whether it was careers in transition, personal branding or strategic business questions and thought partnership - no problem was too big to tackle together. And the urgency was there to make an impact, fast. So the goal became 30 new connections in 30 days. What started as a relatively small outreach, became much larger than I could have imagined. And the result? Meaningful connections that yielded positivity in an otherwise uncertain time.Holly has nearly 30 years of leadership experience building strong consumer brands with well-known global companies such as Luxottica, L’Oreal and the Gillette Company. Most recently, she served as CEO for Costa del Mar, a cult brand of performance sunglasses and was previously, President of Luxottica Wholesale North America. In addition to nearly a decade in the Optical Industry, she has deep leadership experience in the Beauty, Fashion, Luxury and Outdoor sectors. She is a people and culture-first leader who is passionate about defining organizational purpose, galvanizing teams and developing next-gen leaders, especially women. She is also an active mentor, public speaker and non-profit board member.Along with her husband and two (now teenage!) children, she resides in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Holly has represented GB on a number of occasions over several running disciplines. We discuss what she has learnt through her career and what advice and support she now gives the athletes she coaches to be more sustainable and balanced.
Boy, is Holly Rush an interesting guest in this episode of Bad Boy Running! (And Jody and David didn't make a single joke about nominative determinism!) Starting out in marathons as fun runner, Holly explains her journey from standing as a spectator watching with a beer to going all the way to the European Championships and representing England and Great Britain. She talks about her frustration at trying to beat a PB that just wouldn't fall and her eventual move into ultrarunning. That, in itself, is a fascinating story, but now Holly leads the Asics Frontrunner programme that brings on ordinary runners as ambassadors for the brand. David quizzes Holly on the programme and her thoughts about running social media influencers and the direction of the sport. And then the discussion turns to Marathon Talk for which Holly is a presenter. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else.
