Our impact on the world around us can often feel intangible. While we know our lives are more than our labour or careers, the notion of legacy often gets boiled down to fame, popularity or being “known” for something--but what else is possible? In this episode, Nic and Lala offer their ideas on relationships and values as forms of legacy, and how the small ripples of our actions can cause massive waves of care for generations to come. Song of the week: I Was Here by Beyonce.

Americans have a complicated relationship with food. We obsess over food television, recipes, and cookbooks, and simultaneously grapple with dietary problems like obesity, anorexia, diabetes, and heart disease. There are seemingly more diets and diet books every year, yet it doesn’t feel or seem like we’re getting any healthier. Why is this? To unpack our country's unhealthy love-hate relationship to food we sat down with Reshaunda Thornton, the dietician against diets. In her book, TED Talk, and one on one work with her clients, Reshaunda has built a positive alternative to diet culture that is as effective as it is compassionate and adaptable. In our chat, we explore: Why so many people are drawn to diets even though most of them fail. Why the idea of motivation is overrated when it comes to diet and why habits and consistency matter more. The key steps that she has her clients take to better understand their relationship to food and start making choices out of love instead of out of fear or obligation. Why she tells her client to "stop counting calories and start making every calorie count." How eating better starts with loving yourself and making time for yourself. This is one of our most eye-opening episodes to date that will leave you re-thinking how you relate to food and yourself for better and for always. Show Notes: Learn more about Reshaunda on her websiteReshaunda's TED Talk is a must-watch. Stay up to speed on her work by following her on InstagramYou can learn more about Reshaunda's philosophy by buying her book: "Play to Win the Food Fight." Art is a language, is a medium, so is radio. It was the first outlet for the first sound artists and producers before sound was called art. For the listener is discovery, the feeling of live interaction and community. IWH is curated radio, a listening excursion of sound art, soundscapes, experimental music, sometimes not experimental, and sometimes not music. I Was Here is radio for those who like to listen. We prove to be less than perfect podcasters: the recording came out a bit too quiet and a lot of compression was used to salvage comments. Things sound a little fuzzy or underwater. (Don't worry Nate and Amy were not forced to discuss this book while underwater.) We manage to discuss National Book Award finalist I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika Sánchez. Kim suggests Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson and Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani. Molly suggests Burn Baby Burn by Meg Medina, Out of Darkness by Ashley Hope Pérez, A Step From Heaven by An Na. Lindsey suggests City of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C. Anderson, I Was Here by Gayle Forman, and the television program Veronica Mars. Nate suggests We Are Okay by Nina LaCour. ¢a$h Mo₦€¥ suggests Gabi a Girl in Pieces by Isabel Quintero , The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Pérez, and the film Real Women Have Curves. Nathan suggests "Girlfriend in a Coma" by The Smiths and The Mystery of Hollow Places by Rebecca Podos. Amy suggests Gabi Girl in Pieces as well, and ties up our conversation on Lady Bird.
This is an excerpt of the "I Was Here" script written by Emily Keyes.
I WAS HERE author Gayle Forman reads her Twitter Fiction Live at Subculture in New York City. We caught up with her after to talk all things writing, movie adaptations, and dinosaur porn. Read an excerpt: http://bit.ly/1Fbt34L

Finally Jayne Denham has come out admitting she is Addicted To The Diesel, all Lee Kernaghan could say was “Well Ute Me” when Adam Brand was asked where were you while all this was happening... "I Was Here" was all he could say. But in the words of Doug Bruce maybe she was Made That Way. Also tunes from Justin Moore, Brad Paisley, Graeme Connors, Troy Cassar-Daly & Adam Harvey all on Ben Sorensen’s REAL country this week.
