On the comics side, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefield left some comments on the floor of the Robservations podcast about feeling slighted during the Deadpool & Wolverine creative process and that Marvel boss Kevin Feige ignored him on the red carpet. In this week's Born to Watch episode, Matt and Damo dive into a quirky 80s classic that inspired guilty pleasure rewatches and dreams of window display romance: Mannequin (1987). Join the guys as they reminisce about how Kim Cattrall's Emmy and Andrew McCarthy's Jonathan brought a spark of movie magic into their lives. From Matt's pre-teen obsession with Kim Cattrall to Damo's confusion over the movie's inexplicable ancient Egyptian backstory, no stone is left unturned in this Mannequin (1987) Movie Review.Released on February 13, 1987 (nearly 38 years to the day!), Mannequin tells the story of Jonathan Switcher, a struggling artist whose life takes an unexpected turn when his mannequin creation comes to life. Played by Cattrall, Emmy is the dream girl in window dressing form—literally. The duo's escapades in a struggling department store are filled with over-the-top characters, 80s montages, and laugh-out-loud moments, making this film a surreal yet iconic time capsule. As the hosts explore the nostalgia factor, they note the undeniable charm of Andrew McCarthy, a quintessential Brat Pack star. Damo points out that McCarthy's relatable, down-on-his-luck artist is impossible to hate—even when dragging a mannequin around town in plain sight. Kim Cattrall, meanwhile, exudes charisma, foreshadowing her future role as the fearless Samantha in Sex and the City.Of course, the conversation wouldn't be complete without a nod to Mannequin's over-the-top supporting cast. James Spader shines as a sniveling antagonist, while G.W. Bailey (aka Captain Harris from Police Academy) essentially reprises his role as a bumbling authority figure. And then there's Hollywood Montrose, played by Meshach Taylor, whose flamboyant energy adds humour and heart to the film. The soundtrack gets its due praise, with the guys singing the praises (literally) of Starship's Oscar-nominated hit, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now." Fun fact: the song became one of the biggest singles of 1987, topping charts in both the U.S. and U.K. Yet despite its commercial success, Mannequin was panned by critics. Matt shares a particularly brutal review from Roger Ebert, who described the film as “dead.” Still, Damo counters with evidence of Mannequin's enduring appeal: a 46-week theatrical run and a cult following that persists today. The team breaks down the movie's highlights and low points in the Good, Bad, and Ugly segment. The guys rave about the film's outrageous opening scene set in ancient Egypt, complete with comedic subtitles. However, they can't help but cringe at questionable plot points—like the inexplicable romance centered on store displays and a climactic Benny Hill-style chase through the department store. And let's not forget the scene that drove Damo to rage: Andrew McCarthy casually tossing away a perfectly good choc wedge!Throughout the episode, Matt and Damo strike a balance between affectionate nostalgia and merciless critique. They reflect on how Mannequin epitomises the era's campy charm while acknowledging that its caricatured characters and absurd premise could never fly in today's world of high-concept blockbusters. So, if you're ready for a stroll down 80s memory lane filled with synth scores, big hair, and mannequins that spring to life, this episode is for you. Tune in for laughs, trivia, and some wild tangents about department store nostalgia, robot brothels, and Wilford Brimley's ageless face.Don't miss this blast from the past! ALBERT HAMMOND LEGENDARY SINGER… PROLIFIC SONGWRITER…MUSICIAN AND RECORD PRODUCER RELEASING NEW ALBUM ENTITLED ‘BODY OF WORK' ZOOM SPECIAL EVENT ON INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS!   Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Albert Hammond grew up in Gibraltar. In 1960, Albert left school, formed a band and began sending out recordings of his very first compositions to labels in England, where they were released by Parlophone Records. Soon thereafter, Albert met Mike Hazlewood and almost immediately, they teamed up as collaborators and began gaining recognition as a songwriting team: “Little Arrows” (Leapy Lee in 1968 – top 10 country and pop charts), “Make Me An Island” (a number one hit in 14 countries), “Gimme Dat Ding” (The Pipkins in 1970 – pop and R&B charts), “Freedom Come, Freedom Go” (The Fortunes in 1971), “Good Morning Freedom” (Blue Mink, 1970). “Gimme Dat Ding” was written for a children's television program called “Oliver In The Overworld” which starred Freddie and the Dreamers. Having become one of Britain's most successful songwriting teams, Albert and Mike decided to move to southern California. Albert played his songs to every record company possible, until Hal Landers and Bobby Roberts gave him the first artist's contract ever for their newly built Mums label, a division of CBS's Epic label. After auditioning for CBS president Clive Davis, and over 30 other people, Albert was asked to record some songs. The legendary Diane Warren and the talented Sofia Carson, are with me today! They're here celebrating the Academy Awards Best Original Song nomination of "Applause", written by Diane, and performed by Sofia, for the movie "Tell It Like A Woman". You may not immediately recognize Diane's name, but she has penned countless hits, like "Rythm Of The Night", "If I Could Turn Back Time", "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us Now", Unbreak My Heart", "Because You Loved Me", "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"... and so many others! Her latest, "Applause", is described as an anthem for women, yet I know once you hear it you'll agree that it's perfect for anyone who's ever faced a challenge - which means it's a song for all of us!Sofia is fresh from her role as Cassie in Netflix's "Purple Hearts", where she also co-wrote and performed the soundtrack as well as acted as Executive Producer. Comedian and actor Holly Prazoff (Comedy Bang! Bang!) joins to discuss the 1987 romantic comedy MANNEQUIN starring Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall, James Spader, and Meshach Taylor. A loose adaptation of the Pygmalion myth, the Michael Gottleib-directed film tells the story of a department store mannequin inhabited by an ancient Egyptian woman. Though critically dismissed upon its release, MANNEQUIN proved to be a box office success and oft-replayed film on cable TV, earning an Academy Award nomination for its original song, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" performed by Jefferson Starship. Our conversation with Holly is nowhere near as rigid as the titular mannequin, as we veer into extended diversions covering Sex and the City, And Just Like That..., Pixar's Cars, Canadian radio, Tron, The Fisher King, the Holodeck, American Gigolo, UCB, Tom Cruise, and much much more.

In this weeks episode Averyn and Vonia flip the script! Averyn picks the crime and Vonia has to find a Rom Com to pair with it. So we begin with story of the horrible and mysterious death of 24 year old Australian, Phoebe Handsjuk. On The night of Dec. 2 2010 Phoebe's body was discovered in the garbage room of the luxury apartment building where she lived with her boyfriend Ant Hempel. Phoebe fell feet first down 12 flights in the garbage chute before being thrown out of the trash compactor into a trash bin. Phoebe miraculously survived this fall but died shortly after from blood loss due to her injuries. Police immediately assume suicide. The coroner rules it an accident. But her family isn't buying it. If Phoebe got into the chute herself why aren't there any of her finger prints on or around the garbage chute. If it was a horrible alcohol and sleeping pill induced accident why were all of Phoebe's emails deleted before police bothered to look for evidence there. If it isn't foul play then why did another one of Ant's girlfriends end up dead under mysterious circumstances 8 years later? Then Vonia covers the 80s Rom Com flop, Mannequin. This is a story about a man besotted by his own creation. When a struggling artist discovers the mannequin he made comes alive at night he quickly falls in love with her. The two save the department store where the mannequin lives from certain closure all while those around him question his sanity. This movie might not be great and it might often border on offensive in its portrayal of certain characters but it did give us one glorious gift… the Starship song ‘Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' was written specifically for the movie Mannequin. She has written some of the biggest hits of all-time, like "How Do I Live," "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," but in the 80's, she wrote some songs that DIDN'T top the charts. She wrote songs for Barbara Mandrell, Melissa Manchester, and Ronnie Spector, among others. Some of these are really good! And for others, the top spot on the Hot 100 was a real moonshot.

Otros grandes exitos de esta banda fueron “Find Your Way Back”, “Stranger”, “Laying It On The Line”, y “It's Not Over Till It's Over” . --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/radioflowok/message

„Albert doesn't just write hits - he writes classics“. Pardy Gill joins Simon Bonenfant in the Blind Abilities Studio to share with us Pardy’s journey from denying and not accepting his blindness until a few incidences made him quite aware that he needed to address his low vision and face the fact that he was going to have to change his perspective on being Blind. A lot of us who are losing vision over time try to hang on as long as we can and Pardy was no different. Until some near-death experiences, Pardy was content on living a life without addressing the growing loss of vision. With some training and meeting others with vision loss, Pardy became confident and his advocacy skills kicked in and is now a Trustee of the National Federation of the Blind United Kingdom. Pardy contracted COVID-19 and talks about his month-long hospitalization. How the staff, family and Pardy worked together to communicate and work through this challenging situation. Join Pardy and Simon in this inspiring journey and learn how peers and community allowed Pardy to realize that “Nothing is Gonna Stop Us Now”.
