Mad Friars' John Conniff discussed the Padres top 30 prospects, their best internal pitching prospect, how Jackson Merrill is viewed in baseball & why he's still high on Luis Campusano.

Jay Groome was drafted in the 1st round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox and had a lot of hype around his name out of high school. During the early parts of his career, Groome struggled to adapt to professional baseball and was sidelined with multiple injuries. 6 years later, Groome is playing AAA and was recently traded to the San Diego Padres. When this episode was recorded, Groome was still apart of the Red Sox organization and talks about what the support of Red Sox fans has meant to him throughout his journey in the minors. Then Groome explains the biggest lessons he's learned from his journey and what advice he'd give to his younger self. Lastly, Jay shares his hobbies outside of baseball and what are his hidden talents.

In todays episode I ask, what would you do with $7.25 Million? A 1909 T206 Honus Wagner sold for the much. I give my own opinion on whether I'd pay that much for a baseball card. I discuss the whole Jaren Duran situation about when he started chirping back at a fan who was chirping at him for not making certain catches at center field. I look over the standings and talk about certain teams... Mets, Braves, Padres, Mariners, and Orioles? Which teams have fighting chances at their division and which team have already won their division. I finish the episode off with me talking about my trip to El Paso with the team. The Red Sox wheeled and dealed at the deadline. In total, they struck four deals, including the Workman-Hembree deal talked about last episode. We don’t know who the club got for Kevin Pillar and Josh Osich, but can break down the two players the Sox got for Mitch Moreland. And both Hudson Potts and Jeisson Rosario are intriguing young players with some upside who debuted in the top 20 on our recently released rankings. With the trade deadline coming up, Chris and Ian get back on the line to talk trades. They look ahead to potential upgrades to the big-league club, whether in the bullpen or at the keystone. Ian has been to Lowell and updates us on the progress of several promising young players in short-season ball. Then Chris and Ian break down the mid-season re-rankings from Baseball America and MLB Pipeline, in particular why their top fives look a bit different than ours.
