Matthew Crory, Kevin Baver and Doink discuss the Red Sox return to .500 AGAIN with a split vs the Braves. They debate if Kutter belongs in the 2025 rotation depending on the offseason. Sam Kennedy says the team is underperforming, but how can you blame them with the hilarious lineups they are putting out, like in Game 1. Chris Sale's return might have seemed lame on TV but the Pesky Report Stands for Chris Sale. Dom Smith is here for a good time, and Dalbec is an RBI machine. Pivetta dominated the Braves as they are shut out for the first time this season. Duran leads the league in triples by a large margin, and Devers is on fire since April 24th. They also discuss Jay Groome's betting record, and the camera mishaps during Jamie Westbrook's debut. Doink previews the White Sox's upcoming series. Go vote for the all star team! In the second half Jonathan talks about his book Smart Wrong and Lucky: The Origin Stories of Baseballs Unexpected Stars. How some of today's biggest names almost didn't get noticed. You'd be surprised where some played positions that are far from where they made names for themselves.
Catching up on the biggest roster battles and player performances during Spring so far. Mad Friars' John Conniff discussed the Padres top 30 prospects, their best internal pitching prospect, how Jackson Merrill is viewed in baseball & why he's still high on Luis Campusano.
Jay Groome was drafted in the 1st round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox and had a lot of hype around his name out of high school. During the early parts of his career, Groome struggled to adapt to professional baseball and was sidelined with multiple injuries. 6 years later, Groome is playing AAA and was recently traded to the San Diego Padres. When this episode was recorded, Groome was still apart of the Red Sox organization and talks about what the support of Red Sox fans has meant to him throughout his journey in the minors. Then Groome explains the biggest lessons he's learned from his journey and what advice he'd give to his younger self. Lastly, Jay shares his hobbies outside of baseball and what are his hidden talents.
In todays episode I ask, what would you do with $7.25 Million? A 1909 T206 Honus Wagner sold for the much. I give my own opinion on whether I'd pay that much for a baseball card. I discuss the whole Jaren Duran situation about when he started chirping back at a fan who was chirping at him for not making certain catches at center field. I look over the standings and talk about certain teams... Mets, Braves, Padres, Mariners, and Orioles? Which teams have fighting chances at their division and which team have already won their division. I finish the episode off with me talking about my trip to El Paso with the team. Shagging BP, watching Jay Groome pitch, rain delay which lead to a "footbal game".

Bob Osgood (@BobOsgood15) and Shelly Verougstraete (@shellyv_643) were honored to have the great Ian Cundall (@IanCundall) from SoxProspects.com to discuss the draft and what is going on the minor leagues. We start of the episode with Marcelo Mayer talk. Did Ian think we had a chance to snag him with the fourth overall pick? Also, was the draft more unpredictable due to 2020 and the lack of looks? We also discuss the chances of signing a couple of Florida Gators and why did Niko Kavadas fall to the Sox in the 11th round? Of course, there is some Chris Sale and Connor Seabold discussion. But what are Ian's thoughts on Chris Murphy and Jay Groome going forward? Well, you will just have to tune in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The 2021 Major League Baseball season is just over two weeks old. Chris and Ian got together to discuss what they have seen with the big club, including some early takes on who is figuring things out. There’s some bad news on the injury front, and some good news with Eduard Bazardo’s MLB debut and the return of streaming from the Alternate Site in Worcester. Plus, there’s the hot-button issue of the new rule change experiments the Atlantic League will be trying out this summer. And we close out the show taking a quick dip into the mailbag. Chris and Ian have a metric ton of emails to go through. We put out a call for questions and you all stepped it up. Awesome work. Before getting after the emails, the guys go over details from camp. The sprint that was the 2020 season has drawn to a close, and while it may not seem like it, Chris and Ian had plenty to look back on. There were plenty of debuts to digest, so the guys looked back on the first taste of MLB for Bobby Dalbec, Tanner Houck, and others, plus examine what the team's (probable) positioning at number 4 in next year's draft really means. The Red Sox wheeled and dealed at the deadline. In total, they struck four deals, including the Workman-Hembree deal talked about last episode. We don’t know who the club got for Kevin Pillar and Josh Osich, but can break down the two players the Sox got for Mitch Moreland. And both Hudson Potts and Jeisson Rosario are intriguing young players with some upside who debuted in the top 20 on our recently released rankings. Both Potts and Rosario will need to be added to the 40-man ahead of the winter’s Rule 5 draft. Who else is eligible to be selected, and which should be protected? We discuss. And with the trades, a number of Sox Prospects are playing in the bigs and the guys break them all down. And we hand the show over to you to close it out with more of your terrific emails and messages. 0:00 - Intros, housekeeping, email us and remember to check us out on Patreon 4:30 - Talking Trades 22:00 - Rule V considerations 28:30 - New rankings 47:45 - Promotions and non-promotions 1:03:45 - Mailbag Players Mentioned Hudson Potts Jeisson Rosario Gilberto Jimenez Jay Groome Connor Seabold Thaddeus Ward Triston Casas Tanner Houck Mike Shawaryn Bobby Dalbec Jonathan Arauz Jarren Duran Kyle Hart Jeter Downs Robinson Leyer Nick Pivetta We also want to thank our in-residence musical guest, The Ludlow Thieves. With the trade deadline coming up, Chris and Ian get back on the line to talk trades. They address the deal that sent Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree to the Phillies and brought back Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold. The guys then revisited the trade talks with the Padres, and while they don’t see Wil Myers coming to Boston, they do see the Red Sox as being in a good spot to take on salary and get decent young talent in exchange. The guys also talked who the club should and should not move. They talk through Casas joining the Alternate Training Site and who might join them. And we close out the show with more of your terrific questions. 0:00 - Intros, housekeeping, email us and remember to check us out on Patreon 9:00 - We have a trade to discuss 30:15 - Trade talk mailbag 36:00 - Trading Xander? 43:00 - Guys who could move 58:00 - Casas in Pawtucket 1:03:02 - Mailbag Players Mentioned Brandon Workman Heath Hembree Connor Seabold Nick Pivetta Tanner Houck Bryan Mata Kyle Hart Jay Groome Thaddeus Ward Mike Shawaryn Xander Bogaerts Jeter Downs Christian Vazquez Andrew Benintendi Jarren Duran Jackie Bradley Bobby Dalbec Jonathan Arauz Triston Casas Brian Johnson We also want to thank our in-residence musical guest, The Ludlow Thieves. Even if the ultimate goal of minor league games is player development, winning still matters to those players. With Lowell and Salem qualifying for the post-season, we get more looks. The trade deadline is right around the corner. With one swap in the books, Chris and Ian bid farewell to Jalen Beeks. They look ahead to potential upgrades to the big-league club, whether in the bullpen or at the keystone. Ian has been to Lowell and updates us on the progress of several promising young players in short-season ball. Then Chris and Ian break down the mid-season re-rankings from Baseball America and MLB Pipeline, in particular why their top fives look a bit different than ours. Ian talks about why Jay Groome is his number two guy in the system. Chris explains the challenges hitters with a first base-only defensive profile face. And the guys debate whether a hitter can shove. Despite Ian's claim to the contrary, they can't. Pitchers shove. Hitters rake. (Chris's note: Thank you, Joe) Listen in! That's Juan Carlos Linares who looks like one of the Beagle Brothers. And if we're referencing JC Linares, who ranked in the top twenty in 2011, then you know that, yeah, the system isn't looking good right now. With the calendar turning to September and the minor league season about to wrap up, Chris and Ian discussed the news and took a bunch of your questions! The Arizona Fall League rosters have been released, and the Red Sox are sending an interesting crew into the desert in October. The news highlights included Jay Groome's season ending with an injury, the in-game debut of a 2017 draftee and the on-mound debut of another, and a few transactions of note. And finally, you came through with an 80-grade set of mailbag questions. Why doesn't raw power always actualize in games? Might Mookie Betts ever move back to second base? Where would Blake Swihart rank if he were still eligible for the site rankings? The answers to these and more await! 0:00 - Welcome, housekeeping, email us and remember to check us out on Patreon.
