The New York Yankees need pitching, and in our Fanmail Friday episode, Stacey and Steve answer some questions about possible trade partners for the Yankees who have starting pitching. Starting with the Brewers. Are they a good trade partner for the Yankees when it comes to Corbin Burnes? Or how about the Chicago White Sox who could trade Dylan Cease? How do they matchup with the Yankees and what could the Yankees offer? Plus, will Jeter Downs see time in the Majors? How come the Yankees weren't allowed to defer some of Aaron Judge's contract while the Dodgers were able to do it with Ohtani? What options do the Yankees have for starting pitching not currently on the 40-mam roster? Why can't the Yankees do a true rebuild like other teams? Are the Guardians open to trading Shane Bieber? What about Spencer Jones and his role on the Yankees when the time comes? Will Cody Morris, recently acquired in the trade for Estevan Florial, be used as a bullpen piece or a starter? And finally, were the rumors about the Yankees being the favorite for Yamamoto overblown? Stacey and Steve kinda sorta disagree on this one. Join the LOY Insiders Club via subtext! https://joinsubtext.com/lockedonyankeesWhat is the insider's club? https://youtu.be/BItWi-kbIJY?t=1468Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH5857VCyYLAzsWr9vHk4sQFollow Stacey On Twitter: https://twitter.com/StaceGotsSubscribe to Steve's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@stevegranadoFollow Steve On Twitter: https://twitter.com/SteveGranadoFollow the Show On Twitter: https://twitter.com/LockedOnYankeesSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!FanDuelScore early this NFL season with FanDuel, America's Number One Sportsbook! The Nats hung on 10-7 over Boston to take the series rubber match on Thursday afternoon. Mark & Al put in perspective what the victory symbolizes as they won their 55th game of the season, which equals last year's output with forty games still remaining. Washington has won 6 of their past 8 series and are 6 games over .500 since the All Star Break. (11:30) The offense broke out against Chris Sale to reach double digit runs and saw contributions from all across the lineup. Joey Menses had a pair of doubles that led to a 5 RBI afternoon. Keibert Ruiz reached base 5 times as the DH too see his scorching August continue. Other top contributors included Riley Adams, Stone Garrett, and Jeter Downs. (18:25) Patrick Corbin pitched well as he only allowed 1 run in 6 IP. Coming off a start where he issued 7 walks, on Thursday he didn't throw any "Ball Fours". His ERA is at 4.71, which is the lowest it has been since mid May. (27:20) The rout almost turned into a nightmare as Robert Garcia allowed 6 runs in less than an inning; which included a Grand Slam. This led to Davey Martinez having to use Hunter Harvey and Kyle Finnegan despite an earlier 9-1 lead. (31:20) This weekend is an odd 3 game series as the Phillies will be in D.C. on Friday and Saturday, but the finale will be Sunday night in Williamsport, PA to coincide with the Little League World Series. Mark explains the itinerary for the first ever neutral site game in franchise history. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

For the 3rd time since the All Star Break, the Nats pulled off a weekend series sweep. This one came in epic fashion as they trailed 7-2 to begin bottom of the 9th and the affair ended with the unlikeliest of bench players coming through with the walk-off hit in Jeter Downs. Mark & Al collect their breath and then analyze all that went into the comeback victory as Downs was in the game late to replace CJ Abrams at SS, who exited early due to back spasms. (23:20) The bullpen might get two important arms in the near future as Hunter Harvey and Tanner Rainey each showed progress in their rehab quest to return to Washington this season. (27:00) Trevor Williams had another poor outing as he has allowed 4+ runs in as many consecutive starts. Will he remain in the rotation or are there no better options? (37:00) Dylan Crews had a monster game on Sunday in Lynchburg as he went 5 for 5 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs. In just over a week with the Fred Nats, he has already totaled 15 RBIs. The Washington Nationals did it AGAIN! Former top prospects Keibert Ruiz and Jeter Downs hit walk offs over the weekend to beat the Oakland Athletics in dramatic fashion as this Nats team is red hot once again. Ryan discusses the weekend games as the Nats were simply electric, and now this team is the scrappiest team in all of Major League Baseball. It is a Monday after all so Ryan gets you up to date on the best, and worst performances recently as Keibert Ruiz has once again shown us why he was a top prospect in this organization. Lastly, the Nats have the day off after a wild weekend, so Ryan takes a trip around the NL East as 3 teams are in a postseason push & the New York Mets may be the biggest disappointment of all time. Follow Ryan Clary on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Ryanclary11Follow Locked On Nationals on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LO_NationalsSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!IbottaDownload the free Ibotta app and use code MLB for $5 off when you register. eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. The Nats defeated the Cubs 2-1 on an evening where Jake Irvin made his Major League debut on the mound. Mark & Al analyze the right hander's first Big League start, which had an inauspicious beginning as he hit Nico Hoerner with the first pitch he threw. Washington is 3-3 on this home stand with the rubber match on Thursday afternoon. (10:00) The bullpen was outstanding as they combined for nearly five scoreless innings. Andres Machado, just promoted from Rochester, came through with clutch outs in the middle frames. Hunter Harvey yet again was extremely impressive as well. (16:15) The Nationals turned multiple double plays on Wednesday and did so at crucial moments. The defense has been much better this year compared to last season; evidenced by the fact that Luis Garcia has not yet committed an error. (19:15) CJ Abrams had the game winning hit and now leads the team with 15 RBIs through 30 games. Abrams has been producing the past few weeks while hitting in the bottom of the order. (26:10) Ildemaro Vargas returned after last month's shoulder injury. Jeter Downs was sent down to make room for Vargas, but only appeared in one game for three+ weeks. The Nationals were six outs away from a series sweep, but the Mets got to Mason Thompson in the bottom of the 8th and New York prevailed 9-8. Mark & Al start with the top of the 8th where the Nats turned a 7-3 deficit into a brief 8-7 edge as CJ Abrams hit his first career Grand Slam. Does this qualify as a "Good Loss" considering the circumstances? (07:00) Leadoff hitter Alex Call also homered for Washington and Al points out the positive contributions from Call this season in that role. (14:15) Jeter Downs yet again did not play despite being on the Major League roster for the past few weeks. Mark gives an explanation as to all the factors that have led to his extended idle stretch. (22:45) As the final score indicates, it was not a banner pitching evening for the organization. Trevor Williams gave up nine hits in only five innings of work and allowed plenty of contact. Erasmo Ramirez also struggled as he ceded a trio of runs in only one inning of work and has not pitched as well this year as in 2022. What would the SF Giants need to give up to trade for Shohei Ohtani?

Shohei Ohtani may very well stay in Anaheim until he reaches free agency following the 2023 season. But if the Angels are being real with themselves, they may determine that it's in their best interest to trade him now. If so, the San Francisco Giants are as logical a destination as any for the two-way Japanese superstar. Looking at the Red Sox's Mookie Betts as a comparison, what would the SF Giants have to give up to acquire Ohtani? The Dodgers gave up Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs, and Connor Wong, and took on half of the $96 million owed to David Price over the three seasons left on his deal, in order to acquire one season of Betts. The Giants' rivals then extended Betts to a 12-year, $365 million contract, keeping the star outfielder in Los Angeles for the rest of his career. A comparable package from the Giants would look something like Thairo Estrada, Luis Matos, Brett Auerbach, and $48 million over three years. Anthony Rendon's contract could be used as a somewhat similar comp to what Price was owed, but it's not exactly the same. That hypothetical price might seem light, but remember that it's just one year of Ohtani. There's no guarantee he would agree to an extension. All of this is fantasy, of course. The Angels likely won't trade Ohtani, even though it may be in their best long-term interest. And even if they did trade him, there would be 29 other teams willing to give up big returns for his services. Remember, however, that people didn't think Boston would trade Betts, but they did. In a dream offseason scenario—if we're allowed to just dream for a minute—how about Ohtani and Aaron Judge on the San Francisco Giants. Pottymouth survived both Red Sox at Yankee Stadium and the Dead at Citifield and tells us all about it. Game day descriptions include boyfriend highlights (fun to celebrate a Jeter homer at Yankee Stadium), and a little too much information theater. Matt Carpenter has found his swing, Whit Merrifield's consecutive game streak ends in a wimper, and rookie Adley Rutschman's pinch hit homer is the first since Trey. Will Soto make Pottymouth regret the City Connect jersey? Is $440million really not enough? We boldly predict Home Run Derby winners. So many draft-eligible players are children of professional ball players – nature or nurture?Eve Rosenbaum joins the Os front office, and Nelson Cruz gets the nod to manage the Dominican Republic's  World Baseball Classic team. In the labor report, the threat of an All Star Game strike gets the parties back to the negotiating table in the fight for higher wages for Dodger Stadium concession workers. Thousands of minor leaguers will be due part of a $185million class action settlement because of minimum wage and overtime violations. We say “Just a little seething,” “His forearms outrank your situational power,” and “I too have children.”Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith,  and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Patti and the Pottymouth record from neighborhood brewery 3Stars and wish them a fond farewell on their last day of operations. Pottymouth has been back to Fenway so she has a LOT to say, including reports of a hero named Jeter. Patti celebrates the return of Corey's bat, the historic naming of Jazz to the All-Star roster, and the water wings of probable future BF J-Rod. There is pondering over the Os just being fun, or are they actually good. The UK hosts Derby X (is it “ex” or “ten?  We  don't know!) which sounds exactly like something we would come up with over tasty beer at a local brewery. Patti gives you the basics on how next week's draft works, as well as an overview of the latest proposals for an international draft. Important events in girls baseball are happening from T-ball to elite levels. Advocates for Minor Leaguers toss around terms like “minor league conspiracy” and “illegal” in their response to the Senate request for information on MLB's antitrust exemption. Pottymouth makes travel plans for the World Baseball Classic. We launch into the SCOTUS rant that you knew was coming, but don't worry, we deftly tie it to baseball and provide a checklist of specific actions including standing up AND sitting down, and being like Lauren. Pottymouth loses another boyfriend due to character flaws, we get a “Let's Go, Jeter” chant at Fenway that we can get behind, and Patti remains stuck with Adley's mustache because you don't mess with a streak.
