Mastering Healthcare Marketing: Expert Insights from Jake Sucoff, Founder of Patient ProcureIn a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur, host Josh Elledge sat down with Jake Sucoff, Founder of Patient Procure, to discuss the unique challenges healthcare providers face in marketing their services effectively. With a focus on digital marketing strategies, Jake offers actionable advice on how healthcare organizations—from solo practitioners to multi-state groups—can connect with patients through personalized, results-driven marketing. This episode provides invaluable insights into how healthcare professionals can optimize their marketing efforts and engage more effectively with their target audiences.Understanding the Unique Challenges of Healthcare MarketingHealthcare marketing is different from any other industry, and Jake Sucoff emphasizes this difference as one of the most critical factors for healthcare providers to consider when developing marketing strategies. Key to healthcare marketing is navigating complex regulations, such as HIPAA and other privacy laws, that limit how patient data can be used in marketing efforts. The stakes are higher because patients are not just purchasing a product—they are making life-altering decisions about their health. Additionally, healthcare marketing must build trust and authority to demonstrate the provider's expertise and reliability. One common misconception Jake encounters is that physicians believe their medical expertise automatically qualifies them to handle their own marketing. He compares this to representing oneself in court, emphasizing that marketing is a specialized skill. Professional marketing assistance is essential to avoid costly mistakes and ensure the correct strategies are used to reach and convert patients.Jake's actionable advice is simple but effective: Recognize that marketing is a distinct field and invest in expertise to bridge the gap between healthcare services and patients.About Jake SucoffJake Sucoff is the Founder of Patient Procure, a digital marketing agency specializing in the healthcare industry. In this episode, we chat with Neil Herbert, Chairman of Pulsar Helium, a leading primary helium exploration and development company listed in Canada and the United Kingdom, with its flagship Topaz Project in Minnesota, USA, which has one of the world's highest concentrations of helium. Neil brings over 30 years leading and advising companies from start up, through IPOs, development and over US$3bn of M&A. KEY TAKEAWAYS Pulsar Helium is focused on a primary helium project in Minnesota, which boasts some of the highest concentrations of helium globally, with a significant advantage of having no hydrocarbon association. Helium is increasingly vital for various technological applications, particularly in microprocessor production and healthcare (e.g., MRI scanners). The U.S. federal government is actively supporting projects like Pulsar Helium, aiming to ensure local supply chains for critical materials. The project requires relatively modest capital expenditure (between $10 million to $50 million) due to its small footprint and the absence of toxic gases. Financing options include existing bank facilities and potential state and federal support. If current testing goes well, Pulsar Helium aims to reach a financial investment decision (FID) early next year, with potential production starting as early as 2026, depending on the success of ongoing operations and permitting processes. BEST MOMENTS "The value of helium is around 100 times that of natural gas. It's a very high value product, and the potential returns on these projects could be phenomenal." "We started looking at projects in Africa, but when this opportunity came up in the States, it was just a no brainer. It was a project that was so good, you couldn't miss it." "The biggest consumer in the world of helium is actually the United States. They have a big space program and a big healthcare industry, making local supply crucial." "We're looking at a range of CapEx around 10 to 50 million. Given the relative modest amounts of money involved, I don't expect enormous problems with that." Teachhoops.com Coaching is a demanding profession no matter where you hang your whistle, but stepping onto the sidelines in a small town presents a unique set of challenges and rewards that are often overlooked. Unlike their big-city counterparts, small-town coaches aren't just strategizing plays or developing athletes; they're often pillars of the community, mentors, role models, and sometimes, even impromptu therapists for their players and their families. This episode takes a deep dive into the multifaceted world of coaching in close-knit communities, exploring the distinct pressures and triumphs that come with the territory. We'll unpack the unique dynamics that characterize small-town coaching. This includes the blurred lines between personal and professional life, where every victory and defeat is often a community-wide event, and where the players you coach might also be your neighbors, the children of your friends, or even your own relatives. We'll discuss the intense scrutiny that often accompanies the role, where everyone has an opinion on your coaching decisions, and where the local newspaper or coffee shop gossip can be as influential as the state championship. Furthermore, we'll explore the challenges of limited resources, from smaller budgets and fewer assistant coaches to the struggle of attracting and retaining talented athletes when the talent pool is inherently smaller. Beyond the challenges, we'll also highlight the profound sense of connection and impact that makes small-town coaching so rewarding. We'll hear stories of coaches who have shaped generations, built enduring community pride, and fostered a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the playing field. From managing parent expectations and community pressure to developing well-rounded individuals with limited facilities, join us as we explore the heart and hustle of coaching in a small town, and the unique ways these dedicated individuals navigate their vital role in the fabric of their communities. Send us a textWelcome to the latest Series of Supportive Care Matters, a podcast hosted by Medical Oncologist and International Cancer Survivorship Expert, Professor Bogda Koczwara AM.The landscape of cancer survivorship is evolving before our eyes. As treatment advances allow people with metastatic cancer to live longer, we're witnessing the emergence of a population that exists in what medical oncologist Dr Lori Spoozak calls "the place in between" – not curable but not actively dying. In this eye-opening conversation, researchers Associate Professor Nick Hart and Dr. Andrea Smith (who herself lives with metastatic breast cancer) explore the unique challenges faced by those living with advanced cancer. While survivorship programs have traditionally focused on post-treatment care, metastatic patients are typically on treatment for life, navigating constant healthcare interactions, accumulating side effects and facing the certainty rather than just the fear of disease progression. The discussion reveals how metastatic cancer patients have often fallen through the cracks – excluded from survivorship programs yet not appropriately served by palliative care services that focus primarily on end-of-life needs. This growing population faces what Dr. Smith describes as supportive care needs "on steroids" – intensified physical, psychological, financial and practical challenges that require specialised approaches.Hart and Smith share their ground-breaking work developing the first international standards for metastatic cancer survivorship care, now translated into 14 languages to guide implementation worldwide. They emphasise that improving care requires action on multiple fronts: better education for healthcare professionals, redesigned care models, dedicated peer support programs and recognition that survivorship care is everyone's responsibility rather than the domain of any single provider.Whether you're a healthcare professional, researcher, patient advocate or someone living with cancer, this conversation challenges conventional thinking about survivorship and offers a compelling vision for more inclusive, responsive care. Discover why supporting those living for years with incurable cancer represents both an urgent challenge and a tremendous opportunity to enhance quality of life for this overlooked population.Visit www.oncologynews.com.au for show notes and more information about Supportive Care Matters. This conversation is proudly produced by the Podcast Team at The Oncology Podcast, part of the Oncology Media Group Australia.

Jaime Hunt sits down with Brittney Westbrook to discuss the nuances of working with graphic designers and managing creative teams. They dive into the challenges of balancing creative freedom with strategic goals, the importance of giving actionable feedback, and how marketing leaders can foster stronger partnerships with designers. Whether you're leading a creative team or collaborating with designers on marketing projects, this episode is packed with insights on how to improve workflows, enhance communication, and ultimately create more effective marketing materials.Key TakeawaysDesigners are strategic communicators, not just decorators. They translate complex messages into compelling visuals that align with marketing goals.A well-structured creative brief is essential. It should outline objectives, audience, required content, and deliverables while still allowing room for creative autonomy.Collaboration is key. Designers should be involved in project kickoff meetings and work closely with writers and strategists to ensure alignment.Provide specific and actionable feedback. Avoid vague statements like "make it pop" and instead focus on objectives, audience needs, and functionality.Respect designers' time and creative process. Avoid last-minute changes and ensure they have the bandwidth to do their best work.Break down silos within marketing teams. Encourage cross-functional collaboration to create more cohesive and impactful campaigns.Higher ed marketing should look beyond higher ed for inspiration. Drawing from consumer brands and other industries can help create fresher, more engaging designs. Why Do Designers Need a Creative Brief? Many marketing teams push back on creative briefs, seeing them as an unnecessary extra step. But as Brittney explains, a creative brief doesn't have to be intimidating. It can be as simple as a well-organized email that outlines key details: the project's objectives, target audience, timeline, required elements, and deliverables.Having a structured brief prevents last-minute surprises and ensures designers understand the strategy behind the project. For ongoing campaigns, creating an overarching creative brief that can be referenced for multiple pieces can save time while maintaining consistency. How Can Marketers Give Better Feedback to Designers? One of the biggest frustrations designers face is vague or unhelpful feedback. Instead of saying, “I don't like it,” try to pinpoint why: Does the design meet the project's goals? Does it align with the intended audience? Is there a functional issue with readability or layout?Brittney suggests starting with what works before addressing areas that need improvement. Ask open-ended questions about design choices, rather than dictating specific changes. And most importantly, remember that designers are professionals—trust their expertise while providing clear, strategic guidance. What Are the Unique Challenges of Design in Higher Ed?Unlike corporate brands where strict brand guidelines are universally followed, higher ed institutions often struggle with brand consistency. Departments may push for unique identities that deviate from institutional branding, creating tension between designers and internal stakeholders.Marketing leaders play a crucial role in navigating these challenges. They should advocate for brand consistency while ensuring departments understand the value of strategic design. Additionally, fostering collaboration between designers and other communicators, rather than treating them as an “end-of-the-line” production team, helps prevent misalignment. How Can Marketing Leaders Support Creative Teams?Creativity doesn't happen in a vacuum—designers need time and space to think, experiment, and refine their work. Marketing leaders should:Protect their designers' time by minimizing unnecessary meetings and last-minute requests.Encourage cross-team collaboration from the start of a project, rather than operating in a handoff-based workflow.Recognize the strategic role of design in marketing and advocate for designers as key contributors to messaging and storytelling.By treating designers as partners rather than production workers, marketing leaders can create a culture where creativity thrives and projects are more successful.Guest Name: Brittney Westbrook, Senior Marketing Officer, University of Southern MississippiGuest Social: linkedin.com/in/brittneywestbrookGuest Bio: Brittney Westbrook is a strategic communications leader whose experience spans marketing, public relations, branding, and creative. The Trump administration's efforts to cut federal spending is targeting a broad range of departments and agencies including the low-income health care program Medicaid. Republican lawmakers want work requirements in place for eligibility. But the scope of Medicaid programs goes beyond direct health care. Many people rely on Medicaid for treatment of substance use disorder and drug addiction. West Virginia has the nation's highest overdose numbers and the rate for African American people exceeds any other group. In this episode of Us & Them, host Trey Kay learns how Medicaid money supports the organizations that work in recovery and what that work looks like.

Exploring the unique challenges and needs of first responders in retirement with retirement coach and former police lieutenant Kimberly Stratman. When we need them most, first responders rise to answer the call. But what is waiting for them on the other side of the finish line once their career is over? It's a unique challenge, and one that deserves special attention. I recently had the privilege of speaking with Kimberly Stratman, a retired police lieutenant with over 30 years of experience, about her insights into this crucial transition. Kimberly's perspective, as a former officer, and the daughter, sister, mother, and wife of police officers, is truly invaluable. The Realities of First Responder Life (and How it Impacts Retirement) Kimberly's career with the Dallas Police Department, culminating in 20 years as a lieutenant, gave her a front-row seat to the realities of first responder life. She described the double-edged sword of promotion, how it distanced her from the street patrol work she loved, while simultaneously opening doors to teaching and sharing her knowledge. But beyond the daily grind, Kimberly shed light on the less glamorous aspects of the profession – the paperwork, the emotional toll, and the impact on personal lives. As she aptly put it, "Everything that makes us good to write about and makes for good viewing destroys marriages and careers." The constant stress, lack of sleep, rotating schedules, and exposure to trauma take a heavy toll, often leading to physical and mental health challenges. And, as Kimberly pointed out, "Up until just recently, we were supposed to handle all of that privately. We weren't even allowed to acknowledge that we were having any problems, or they would take your badge from you." The Unique Challenges of First Responder Retirement While anyone can struggle with retirement, first responders face a unique set of challenges. They often retire younger, leaving them with potentially decades of life to navigate. They carry the weight of their experiences, both emotionally and physically. And, as Kimberly emphasized, "First responders tend to drop dead a couple of years after retirement." This stark reality underscores the importance of proactive planning and self-care. The loss of identity is another significant hurdle. Kimberly shared her own experience of turning in her uniform, a surprisingly emotional moment that symbolized the end of an era. "When I turned my uniform in, it took me three times to… get it all together… And then when I took the last stuff in, I actually cried when I was driving away. It was very hard." This powerful anecdote highlights the deep connection between identity and career for first responders. Planning for a Successful Transition: More Than Just Finances Kimberly stressed that while financial planning is essential, it's just one piece of the puzzle. "Our time and our health, I would have to say, is even more important than the money." She emphasized the need for intentionality, both in career and retirement planning. "If you're very intentional about it, if you have a plan for it… it's just like everybody's worried about the money and that's important… But our time and our health… is even more important." She also highlighted the importance of addressing health issues proactively. "Know your numbers, be brutally honest with yourself… if you can't go out and do normal stuff… start addressing that." And, perhaps most importantly, she emphasized the crucial role of relationships. "You have to know if your marriage is strong… Work with your relationship with your children… The first responder hasn't been at any of the events… and so the retiree thinks, when I retire, I'm going to spend all this time with my kids. Well, the kids have moved on." The Importance of Early Planning and Flexibility Kimberly's perspective on retirement planning has evolved over time. She now believes that conversations about retirement should...

In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton dive into the unique challenges of parenting as a first responder. Balancing the demands of a high-stress job with the responsibilities of family life can be overwhelming, especially when irregular schedules and emotional exhaustion come into play. You'll learn how to build meaningful connections with your children (Amazon Affiliate), even when time and energy are limited. We'll discuss five common challenges faced by first responder parents and share five actionable strategies to create a stronger bond with your kids while maintaining balance at home. The Unique Challenges of Parenting as a First Responder: Understand why the nature of first responder work can complicate parenting and how to address these obstacles proactively. Five Common Challenges First Responder Parents Face: 1. Irregular Schedules: Example: Missing school events, bedtime routines, or family dinners due to shift work. Impact: Creates feelings of guilt and disconnect between parents and children. 2. Emotional Exhaustion: Example: Coming home physically and mentally drained after a stressful shift. Impact: Makes it harder to be present and engaged with family. 3. Lack of Predictable Routines: Example: Inconsistent availability for activities like homework help or weekend outings. Impact: Leads to frustration for both parents and children. 4. Exposure to Job-Related Trauma: Example: Struggling to shield children from emotional stress while processing traumatic experiences. Impact: Can create tension or a sense of emotional distance in the household. 5. Limited Quality Time: Example: Spending more time at work than at home, leading to missed opportunities for connection. Impact: Causes kids to feel neglected or disconnected from their parent. Five Ways to Remedy These Challenges: 1. Prioritize One-on-One Time: Solution: Schedule dedicated time with each child, even if it's brief, like a weekly breakfast date or a bedtime chat. Why It's Beneficial: Makes your child feel valued and helps build stronger emotional connections. 2. Create Predictable Traditions: Solution: Establish small, consistent rituals, such as a family movie night or making pancakes on your day off. Why It's Beneficial: Provides stability and something for your kids to look forward to, even with a hectic schedule. 3. Communicate Openly About Your Job: Solution: Share age-appropriate insights about your work and why it's important, without overwhelming your kids. Why It's Beneficial: Helps them understand your absence and builds respect for what you do. 4. Involve Your Family in Stress Relief Activities: Solution: Engage in activities like family walks, board games, or cooking together to decompress and bond. Why It's Beneficial: Combines self-care with family time, strengthening relationships while reducing stress. 5. Use Technology to Stay Connected: Solution: Send quick text messages, share funny memes, or video chat during breaks to maintain contact when you're away. Why It's Beneficial: Keeps you involved in your kids' daily lives, even when you can't be physically present. The Importance of Maintaining Balance: Learn why finding harmony between duty and family life is essential for your well-being and your children's development. How to Build a Resilient Family Dynamic: Discover how open communication, consistency, and quality time can foster a supportive and loving household, even with the demands of a first responder career. Why This Matters: Parenting as a first responder comes with unique challenges, but with intentional effort, you can create meaningful relationships with your children and build a strong, connected family.
