The trickster deity (or archetype) is instrumental in the progress of most cultures and essential for inner transformation. We get acquainted with the primordial force of alchemical change, including his aspects of Hermes, the Coyote, Loki, Set, Prometheus, and Tezcatlipoca. Is the Trickster just Jung's Shadow or an alien shitposter? How do we harness this archetype's psychic gifts and avoid its cosmic pranks? You'll find out, and for good measure, we'll include some of HP Lovecraft's dark jokes as a bonus.Astral Guest – Jeffrey Lang, author of The Trickster Gods and Their Influence on the Development of Human Culture. This is a partial show. **This hour and half will be the best that you could invest for the betterment of your intellect and faith.** This does not just speak about the purpose of life itself; it speaks about the purpose of Islam, the purpose of the [Quran](http://www.thechosenone.info/al-quran-with-english-translation/) and the Purpose of our desire to seek the truth and redemption. This is a beautiful guide for sincere seekers of Truth! Shaikh Hamza Yusuf on his Sandala blog wrote eloquently about this lecture and what it should mean for a Muslim. He writes: “After listening to his lecture, I have to conclude that Dr. Lang is bold, honest, a truly brilliant and original thinker, and, in reality, a proof of the Qur'an. Let me explain this last statement: while on the one hand, the**[ Qur'an ](http://www.thechosenone.info/al-quran-with-english-translation/)**needs no proof, on the other, one of its greatest proofs is that if you do what the Qur'an challenges you to do – to reflect on it deeply – you will arrive at the conclusion that it could not be from other than God.” Please do take the time to listen and to reflect deeply on what is presented. Shaikh Hamza Yusuf ends this entry by saying: “I really believe there are some original insights here worth considering, especially for those struggling with their faith or lack thereof. I hope you will give it a listen. If you do and are tempted to turn it off after a few minutes, you might consider asking yourself how is it that we can so easily get lost in a two-hour film that demands nothing of our intellects and not listen to a former Christian-turned-atheist Ph.D. in mathematics explain how the Qur'an convinced him it was revealed by his Creator.” Definitely a something to consider…
In this episode, I do a book review of a book called Struggling to Surrender by Dr. Jeffrey Lang. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/533324.Struggling_to_Surrender The book is a powerful account of Dr Lang journey of discovery that eventually lead him to Islam. It is autobiographical and written in a very easy to read style. Dr Lang is a Mathematician and he values reason and logic. He explains the Message of the Quran, presents and analysis of the Sunnah (which is the life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam). He writes about the state of the Muslim people and addresses some issues surrounding some controversial subjects such as the role of women in Islam, women's rights, the Shariah Law, the misconceptions surrounding Jihad, Apostasy and so on. All in all it is a very powerful book. Finish that bottle of Chateau Picard '49 and let the mudslinging begin as we pay a visit to "Family"!Author Jeffrey Lang is back on the show to talk about one of Star Trek: The Next Generation's most offbeat and heartfelt episodes. Picard has escaped the clutches of the Borg and saved the Federation once again, but he can't win the battle against the memory of his traumatic experience without the tough love of his estranged brother, Robert . . . and a well-timed mud fight.Join us as we look at one of TNG's only epilogues, an episode that was literally underrated, but one that shows, more than any other, the true, beating heart of Trek. Along the way, we talk about the growing maturity in storytelling of TNG's middle years, the key performances that make this episode work, the small flashes of continuity afforded on a procedural show, and how sometimes being screwed up is exactly right.Plus, we discuss the horse thief Crusher, Gene hating Picard's fear, the best old guy fight in sci-fi television, the drawbacks of synthehol, the myth of the effective admiral, whether Kennedys cry, the literal lost art of matte painting, Jeff checks TV Guide circa 1991 for Macguyver times, and Kal posits the existence of exoeconomists!Make Atlantis Dry Again!Check out Jeff's fascinating Trek novels! The Left Hand of Destinyhttps://amzn.to/2uvj27DSection 31: Abysshttps://amzn.to/2NoFqX6Force and Motionhttps://amzn.to/2LhPUKEHear our live episode with Melinda Snodgrass from CONvergence 2018!https://www.patreon.com/posts/20122260Be our nephew on Facebook and Twitter!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodBuy us some Chateau Picard on Patreon!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodSubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

Is Islam really the fastest growing religion? If so, then where are the Muslims and why are our Mosques sitting empty on a daily basis (besides the role call, obligated Jum'uah crowd)? There is a phenomenon happening in the Western Muslim communities and beyond that we are either ignorant to or just plain ignoring. We are standing on the edge of a very serious crisis and this is a crisis of Faith. We are losing people from Islam faster than we are able to sustain them and the truth is being masked by this dangerous rhetoric being doled out by Shayukh and the general Muslim population alike. Yet, this is not a discussion on where to put blame, this is a discussion on how much we have contributed to this breakdown on a very personal level.

Jeffrey Lang: The Light Fantastic. When Data sacrificed himself to save the Enterprise crew in Nemesis, we all thought it was the end of the beloved android. But in Cold Equations, David Mack gave Data a second chance at life and opened the door to new possibilities. Now, in The Light Fantastic, Jeffrey Lang continues the story—which was in fact started in his own 2002 novel Immortal Coil—as Data and Lal find themselves facing off against a familiar foe from their days aboard the Enterprise-D: Moriarty. In this episode of Literary Treks we're joined by Jeff to talk about the origins of the story, whether or not Sherlock was an inspiration for parts of the concept, the idea that Data may be an android version of a Trill, and how dealing with adolescene plays a key role in Data's new life. We also find out why Data is like saffron and where the story might go next. In our news segment we learn more about John Jackson Miller's upcoming story Takedown, the forthcoming limited-edition book Return to Tomorrow that will take back to the making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture through interviews from the time, and we dress the final frontier. Jeffrey Lang: Immortal Coil. For most of Data's existence he was a subculture of one. He was alone in the universe as a unique being with a unique future. Over the course of his life he went from being the son to being the caretaker in a sense. Once Data gained emotions, he had to come to terms with the understanding that he would outlive everyone around him. His life would, potentially, go on forever. In his 2002 novel Immortal Coil, Jeffrey Lang tackled this reality as Data deals with the death of his "mother," Julianna Tainer, and learns the astonishing secret of artificial intelligence that stretches far back into the galaxy's past. In this episode of Literary Treks, hosts Matthew Rushing and Christopher Jones are joined by Jeffrey Lang to discuss the book, what he wanted to achieve in moving Data forward beyond Generations and First Contact (the latest film at the the novel was written), and how the concept of responsibility is dealt with in the Star Trek universe. In our news segment we check in on Jeffrey's new book, The Light Fantastic, and Scott Pearson's The More Things Change.
James Swallow: The Poisoned Chalice. Over the past decade the prime universe has grown richly complex as print adventures have taken over where television left off. Now, in a new five-book series titled "The Fall," some of Star Trek's greatest authors are going to rock the Federation to its core with an adventure that takes place over a period of sixty days and involves TNG, DS9, and Titan. In this episode of Literary Treks hosts Matthew Rushing and Christopher Jones continue our series of interviews with the authors of The Fall as James Swallow joins us to discuss the fourth book in the series, The Poisoned Chalice. James is returning to the world of Titan for the first time since Synthesis to get Riker and his crew out of their comfort zone. We learn about the real-world politics behind The Poisoned Chalice, how the world view of Federation citizens and leaders has changed in the aftermath of war, and what it was like to write the first ever meeting between two onscreen favorites—Tuvok and Nog. We also find out what James has in store for us on the Star Trek front in 2014. In our news segment we get a first look at the cover art for Greg Cox’s No Time Like the Past, find out more about David R. George III’s John Harriman-Demora Sulu novel One Constant Star, and also check in on Jeffrey Lang’s Light Fantastic. In comics we take a peek at IDW’s early-2014 slate, which includes Ongoing #31—the first part of I, Enterprise—and a reissue of the first six classic Gold Key comics. And to top it all off, we close out the year with a review of Ongoing #28, the final chapter of The Khitomer Conflict.
