How do we know who is a genuine believer? And why does it matter to know the difference between conversion and conviction? Those are the questions we're wrestling with in this episode How to Study the Bible. Today, we're studying Daniel 4 in our Living Right Side Up in an Upside Down World series. After dreams, miracles, and multiple warnings, the king still resists repentance—until God graciously brings him low and restores him when he finally acknowledges: “Heaven rules.” Nicole distinguishes religious conviction from Christian conversion, names how pride hides in plain sight, and calls listeners to examine their allegiance—not to personalities, parties, or echo chambers, but to Jesus as Lord. You’ll learn how to read Daniel 4 with context, spot the turn from “the tree” to “the man,” and apply the chapter’s timeless truths to your life today. Key Takeaways from Daniel 4 - Religious conviction does not equal Christian conversion. Interest, morality, or “saying the right words” is not the same as repentance and allegiance to Jesus. Heaven rules. God is sovereign over kings, kingdoms, and timelines—even when He seems slow. Pride is subtle and stubborn. It hides in control, certainty, self-reliance, and power. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. God is patient. Nebuchadnezzar receives 12 months to repent—Scripture shows a God who warns, waits, and still welcomes. Read carefully. Daniel 4 shifts from describing a tree (it/its) to a person (him/his)—a textual clue that the dream is about the king himself. Escape echo chambers. Anchor teaching in Scripture, not personalities or algorithms. Measure fruit, not just words. Repentance is a turn, not a tweak. Conversion means leaving the kingdom of self for the kingdom of God—a new operating system. These past few weeks have been full of evil and violence, but also with the sounds of revival! How do we rightly respond to the evil and suffering that surrounds us? In this timely conversation, I sit down with my husband, Dr. JP Jones, to explore the spiritual antidote to tragedies like assassinations, school shootings, and international conflict. Drawing from his years as a pastor and theologian, JP unpacks the root causes of moral decline while pointing us back to Scripture as our guide. Together, we discuss how to channel righteous anger without slipping into unrighteous responses, and how to wield spiritual weapons—like prayer and truth—in today’s battles. This episode will challenge and encourage you to stand firm in faith, overcome evil with good, and trust God’s sovereignty even in chaos. We begin an overview in four podcasts of Blake's two final and definitive poems, Milton and Jerusalem. Milton is in two books. In the first, Milton returns to the fallen world to achieve the clarified vision that eluded him in Paradise Lost. He wrestles with Urizen, who tries to oppose him, and enters Blake's left foot to inspire him.
Imagine this scenario: Someone you dearly love is hurting. Maybe they are grieving the loss of a loved one or battling the depths of depression. Maybe they've lost their sense of purpose or just got a hard diagnosis from the doctor. What is the best thing you can do for them? Is it calling them every day? Making them meals? Being willing to sit with them in the quiet? Should you watch their kids? Offer to drive them around? Pick up their groceries? All of those can be really good things for us to do. They show our love and support in very practical ways. But what if I said the very best thing you could do was to stay close to Jesus yourself? Let's explore some reasons why staying close to Jesus is so important when we are caring for someone who is hurting. And then be sure to stay to the end for a special invitation to dive deeper into this topic with me at a live event coming up next week. This episode dives into one of the hardest questions we face as parents: How do we help our kids stay rooted in the faith when the world is pulling them away? Dr. Greg sits down with Raquel Rose, who's lived this from every angle—first as a scared college student facing an unexpected pregnancy, later as a school counselor walking with teens through their toughest moments, and now as a Catholic mom of four. Key Topics: The real reasons kids shut down—and what actually helps them open up Why Raquel was afraid to tell her parents she was pregnant—and what she wishes they had said The moment of grace that changed everything before her scheduled abortion How seeing Jesus in the Eucharist led to healing, hope, and a new path What Raquel learned from years of counseling teens who couldn't talk to their parents Simple ways parents can build trust and bring faith into everyday family life Learn More: The Little Rose Shop – Explore Raquel's Catholic toys, books, and tools for faith-filled family life. Ever felt disheartened looking at a world that seems increasingly distant from God? You're not alone—and you're not the first. In this deeply insightful exploration of Ezekiel chapters 14, 15 and into 16, we discover that God's ancient prophet faced remarkably similar circumstances to our own.The episode begins with God's sobering revelation that even if the most righteous biblical figures—Noah, Daniel, and Job—were present in Jerusalem, they could only save themselves through their righteousness. This powerful message speaks directly to believers today who wonder how to remain faithful when surrounded by spiritual indifference. We dive into one of scripture's most profound metaphors: Jerusalem as an abandoned newborn, unwashed and left to die, whom God rescues, nurtures, and transforms into a beautifully adorned bride. Through vivid imagery and historical context, we see how God took Israel from humble beginnings through to Solomon's glorious kingdom—and the tragic consequences when they abandoned their divine purpose. The allegory of the useless grapevine delivers a particularly potent message about spiritual fruitfulness. Unlike other trees whose wood remains useful, a fruitless vine serves no purpose—mirroring the reality of what happens when believers disconnect from their divine source. This imagery, later echoed by Jesus in John 15, reminds us that our primary calling is to remain connected to God regardless of cultural currents.Despite the heavy themes of judgment—foretold through sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague—this episode ultimately delivers hope by emphasizing God's faithfulness to preserve a remnant of believers in every generation. For anyone feeling increasingly isolated in their faith, this timeless message offers both challenge and profound reassurance.Join us as we unpack these ancient words that speak with surprising relevance to our modern spiritual journey. Discover how to stand firm when society separates from God and find courage in knowing you're part of a faithful remnant with deep historical roots.Support the showThank you for listening!! Questions about why, if Adam and Eve were in perfect community with God, we would need to be in a fallen world to fully know God, and why God cursed nature after the fall. If Adam and Eve were in perfect community with God, why would we need to be in a fallen world to fully know God, and did God create a set of circumstances that would bring about a fallen world solely to reveal his other qualities? Why did God curse nature after the fall?
We focused on spiritual protection, the power of prayer, and Christ's conquest over the world system. Together, we explored our role in spiritual warfare, emphasizing prayer, unity, and walking in faith. Key Scriptures like Ephesians 6 and 2 Corinthians 10 reminded us of the armor we have in Christ and His authority over Satan's system. We also shared personal reflections, discussed family, and lifted up a hospital-related prayer request.

Why does work often feel so frustrating, unfulfilling, or even futile? In this sermon, we take an honest look at the reality of work in a world marred by sin. While God designed work as a meaningful and creative expression of His image in us, Genesis 3 reminds us that the fall has distorted everything — our relationship with God, with each other, and with our labor. We now face thorns, sweat, pride, envy, and disillusionment in our daily grind. But Scripture doesn't leave us hopeless. This message explores how the Bible realistically acknowledges the pain of our work while offering a better way forward — a calling to work unto the Lord, even in broken systems and imperfect conditions. We were made for more than toil and chasing the wind. And in Christ, even our labor is not in vain.Join us as we examine the tension of living “East of Eden” and discover the redemptive hope God offers for our daily work.

If God is a good Father and creates a good world, why does evil exist? The Catechism addresses this profound and often painful question. Fr. Mike helps us understand how to reconcile sin, evil, and suffering with God's loving Providence. He assures us that while God does not remove evil, he does redeem it, offering himself as the solution. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 309-314.
