Galva Mayor Volkert joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to recap the Monday City Council meeting. Galva's City Council welcomed three members following April's election—John Wirth joins for Ward 2, while Doug Anderson and Jayme Hopping continue serving their wards. The American Legion begins poppy sales for Memorial Day and invites volunteers to place flags at Galva Cemetery on May 11, 2025, meeting at 7 AM. Citywide cleanup runs June 16–21, with pickup available on June 16th; contact Galva City Hall at 309-932-2555  for details, especially regarding tire disposal fees. Galva acquired 44 acres near the park district, and the park district is looking to expand recreational areas. The park district intends to use the five acres to add a parking area, soccer field, and ball diamond. The city is still installing the solar arrays, and when completed, residents will have the option to purchase electricity from the solar array. Mayor Volkert said the city will never ask you for financial information. If you have questions regarding individuals going door-to-door selling electricity, contact City Hall. The city has demolished some dilapidated buildings, and they have one building left. Anyone interested in opening a business in the final building or building on the land from demolished buildings should contact Galva City Hall for more information. The park district taxing boundaries need to match the city boundaries, so land around the ethanol plant has been annexed into the city, allowing for a larger tax base for the Galva Park District. Galva added a couple of trinkets and pictures to the Henry County time capsule, which will be opened far into the future.

Voices In My Head (The Official Podcast of Rick Lee James)

Voices In My Head (the Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 545: Mark D. Conklin THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK BRINGS SCRIPTURE TO LIFE WITH MUSIC'S TOP NAMES Gloria Gaynor, Rita Wilson, The Fisk Jubilee Singers, Rhonda Vincent and Ernie Haase & Signature Sound Among Star-Studded Guests   Uniting a veritable who's who of Gospel, soul and country music luminaries for a uniquely inspired collection of song and spoken word, The Gospel According to Mark is set for release May 17 from StowTown Records. Created by and featuring acclaimed singer/songwriter Mark D. Conklin, the project's 12 standout musical collaborations are interwoven with 12 Scripture vignettes voiced by iconic songstress Gloria Gaynor.    Produced by Conklin who also wrote or co-penned each musical selection and GRAMMY winner Mark Prentice, the project offers fresh perspective on the New Testament book of Mark, chronologically conveying the account of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. With Gaynor's narrations anchoring every song, The Gospel According to Mark showcases musical contributions from renowned actress and singer Rita Wilson; internationally revered collegiate ensemble The Fisk Jubilee Singers; Gospel trailblazers The Fairfield Four; the “Queen of Bluegrass” Rhonda Vincent; Southern Gospel leaders Ernie Haase & Signature Sound; GRAMMY-winning recording artist John Berry; and ‘80s country hitmaker T. Graham Brown, among many others.    “While serving as the director of the GRAMMY Museum Experience at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, I had the privilege of sitting down with the legendary recording artist Gloria Gaynor in 2020,” Conklin recalls. “After spending time with her album and speaking with her about her unwavering dedication to the Lord, an awakening occurred within me. It ignited a long-dormant desire to embark on my own worship project dream I had put off for years.”   “Later, as I edited the audio of my interview with Gloria for a podcast, it hit me like a bolt of lightning,” he adds. “I knew THAT voice, HER voice, was the one! To my great delight and surprise, she graciously agreed to join me on my musical journey, and I will be forever grateful.”   “I'm so honored to have been asked to narrate The Gospel According to Mark and lend my voice to such an uplifting project that Mark D. Conklin has brought to life,” Gaynor shares. “To be part of such an amazing gathering of talent to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is truly a blessing for me.”   The Gospel According to Mark is highlighted by lead single “The Greatest is Love,” which is now available on digital platforms. Featuring acclaimed recording artist Wendy Moten, a runner-up on NBC's “The Voice," the retro rock 'n soul track embodies the nostalgic sounds of Memphis and Muscle Shoals.   Additional album standouts include the Rita Wilson spotlight “Through the Storm”; “Oh, Lonely Day,” a stirring Good Friday anthem with vocal contributions from John Berry and Rhonda Vincent; and the soulful “Take This Cup” with The Fairfield Four, an emotive musical rendering of Jesus' struggle in the Garden of Gethsemane. Conklin has also authored an exclusive devotional companion for The Gospel According to Mark. Unpacking scripturally-rooted insight behind each of the album's 12 songs, the devotions present encouragement for daily living, reflective questions and directed prayers.   ABOUT MARK D. On this week's episode of ScaleUp Radio, I'm speaking to Doug Anderson who is a co-founder of DT Studios.   They are a company that work with visual media; so, primarily photography and video production - and they help businesses with their marketing; helping to get their brand out through the use of the visual.   The business was set up in 2019 and Doug, along with the other co-founder Terry Livesey, were both working as independents - but realised that they could make a bigger impact if they combined their expertise and services.   As always, there is a lot of ground covered in this conversation including:    - The value in ‘paying your dues'. For Doug it was photographing weddings - not specifically what he wanted to do, but it gave him a good grounding in the industry.  - How honesty is the only policy when it comes to your business partner. By being honest with them - and them being honest with you - you can sort out your individual strengths, meaning you can make a better plan for the operation of the business.  - Why having a Business Rhythm is important, even in smaller businesses. Regular meetings and feedback sessions are still important - even when it's just the two of you in the office.    What's interesting in listening to Doug is the arrangement that exists in the business between him and the co-founder of DT Studios, Terry. They seem to work together very well - and that seems to have come from a place of honesty, as well as some healthy competition.   Doug can be found here:   linkedin.com/in/douglasanderson15   https://www.dtstudios.co.uk/   info@dtstudios.co.uk     Become A Key Person Of Influence by Daniel Priestley - https://www.waterstones.com/book/become-a-key-person-of-influence/daniel-priestley/9781905823840   Milanote App - https://milanote.com/   Scaling up your business isn't easy, and can be a little daunting. And then more recently, David Attenborough's high profile Netflix series Our Planet. But for someone who has had such incredible career success, Doug was tremendously down to earth, and fun to talk with. And he shared stories about why it's so hard to shoot in the underwater environment, how he approaches being so close to large wild animals in the ocean, and an incredible moment of filmmaking he had off Antarctica with what is sometimes called the finger of death.Scuba Diving, Free Diving, Ocean Environmentalism, Surfing, and Marine Science. Please give us ★★★★★, leave a review, and tell your friends about us as each share and like makes a difference.
