Justine Harper of Unchained Capital speculates that adoption will be a significant focus of 2022 after seeing notable institutions adopting Bitcoin, while Kristy-Leigh Minehan of OhGodAGirl discusses hash rates and mining. Minehan believes that this will be the year that some mainstream guys join the ASIC development business due to all of the mining moving into the United States after China's ban and the increased market saturation. Charlie Lee, Founder of Litecoin agrees with Harper and Minehan that the adoption of Bitcoin will be prominent this year. He discusses Tonga's interest in following El Salvador's plan of making Bitcoin legal tender and the potential of a Spot ETF. Peter McCormack of What Bitcoin Did discusses the benchmarks of the Bedford Bitcoin Football Club for 2022 and the focus on next season. One of the benchmarks will be commercial revenue proving that having an international base of Bitcoiners who support the team will allow a revenue model that matches lead clubs in the UK. Another benchmark will be strengthening the club's infrastructure, processes, and protocols to take a tenth division team through the leagues. McClurg speaks about the adoption of Bitcoin as payment by sports teams worldwide. Author, Jimmy Song, discusses releasing his third book and seeing a trend of Bitcoin as a political issue in current and future elections. Two democrats and three republicans in the Ohio senate race have all expressed positive thoughts on Bitcoin. Song speculates that 2022 will have positive effects on Bitcoin despite potential adversity. McClurg brings up the recent news that Rio De Janeiro is adding one percent of Bitcoin to its city treasury, similar to Miami. These two cities are now competing for forces with El Salvador. Wilson speculated that El Salvador would win due to its current Bitcoin infrastructure and commitment. McCormack asks the other's opinions on the pegasus software in El Salvador. He describes the issue of thirty activists and journalists having information compromised on their phones due to this state tracking software. A variety of authoritarian problems have occurred in El Salvador over the past eighteen months. He challenged whether we are being objective enough regarding this issue. Minehan states that the NSO group that created the Pegasus software was running a subsidiary of an American venture capital firm to create it. She has seen a trend of giving people a pause because they are in the Bitcoin community, which is happening in El Salvador. With the excitement surrounding them adopting Bitcoin, people are not paying attention to what is happening with the pegasus software. Over thirty percent of the IOS population had the pegasus software installed until the IOS 14.2 update. Song agrees and discusses the issue of tech companies having more information than they should. McClurg suggests looking at the issue from a macro perspective. He acknowledges what they are doing is bad, but they have been an authoritarian regime for a very long time. It takes time to become a democracy, and he believes that aspects of democracy and freedom will emerge into the government. Harper agrees that it is vital to be objective and that the people of El Salvador are benefiting from the financial freedom of implementing Bitcoin. However, she can see both sides of this issue. Lee believes that our focus should be on praising them for their implementation of Bitcoin because we ultimately cannot change what they are doing. Wilson talks about technology authoritarianism and if Bitcoin will fix de-platforming. There have been many instances of people getting banned from Twitter or Youtube for talking about Bitcoin. McCormack suggests that even with issues surrounding censorship, he does not believe that enough individuals would be willing to switch platforms to make an impact. The group discusses the potential of an app without censorship and the effect of current social media apps. They debate personal security issues and if individuals are willing to take extra precautions to ensure their mail's security. Minehan asks, “how do you monetarily incentivize running your own email server?” Song suggests that Bitcoin can help fix this issue due to the monetary incentives such as fees for running a lighting node. Lee believes that with microtransactions becoming more feasible, there is potential for solving this problem. As the podcast wraps up, McClurg congratulates his guests on their recent accomplishments and has high expectations for the new year, and looks forward to seeing everyone at Bitcoin 2022 in Miami.

How are bitcoin (BTC) miners strategizing for the upcoming halving event in which block reward subsidies will be cut by 50 percent? On this week’s episode of “Bitcoin Halving 2020: Miner Perspectives,” Kristy-Leigh Minehan and Pavel Moravec give an in-depth explanation of what miners are doing to maximize profits and increase operational efficiency. Since October, Minehan explains, bitcoin mining farms have been getting on “the upgrade train” and purchasing state-of-the-art ASIC machines such as the Antminer S17 and S19. Moravec says bitcoin miners have also been looking at creative ways to cut electricity costs by leveraging surplus energy from certain cities’ power grids. What started primarily as a hobby in 2009 has flourished over the years, gained broader adoption and ultimately evolved into a new, professional industry. “We’ve gotten to a point in bitcoin’s history where the government is paying attention and has started to realize bitcoin isn’t going away. Mining is not going away. And it’s in their best interest to start working with ... miners,” Minehan said.Teaming up with local governments and utility providers is another miner strategy both Minehan and Moravec have seen on the increase in recent years. This is why Minehan believes even the geographic distribution of miners, which was discussed in depth in an earlier podcast episode, may further diversify in future to regions such as North America and Europe. Kristy-Leigh Minehan was into Bitcoin before most people had heard of it. She was getting paid in Bitcoin for developer work, and was pleased to be able to convert her first payment into enough dollars to buy one of Apple’s fancy new iPads. She loved her iPad. But perhaps not so much that she would have chosen it over the more than $200 million that those Bitcoins would be worth now.Today, as Chief Technical Officer of Core Scientific in Seattle, Washington, Kristy-Leigh is still working in cryptocurrency and blockchain and is confident they’re going to be widely adopted. That will create opportunities for experts to build new kinds of servicing businesses that will integrate blockchain solutions, themselves getting paid with micropayments for each transaction.“You’d go to a business, and you’d say ‘listen, I’ll build all of this out for you on a smart contract. And then every time that smart contract is processed, every time those rules are executed, I will take a very small per cent’ ...Multiply that by millions and millions of transactions per day - bingo! You’ve got a sustainable business.”That’s just one example of a wider push that Kristy-Leigh would like to see towards “building infrastructure”. That means creating the kind of basic products that are taken for granted in other software areas. In blockchain and cryptocurrency, they would allow people to get involved more easily:“We need to start building things like tools - debuggers, all of the basic stacks of software that traditional software development has. Build it from the ground up so that anyone - any teenager, any high schooler can jump in and start creating on the Bitcoin blockchain.”Alongside the infrastructure, Kristy-Leigh wants the sector to work closely with regulators to build confidence with established public and private sector players: “If the governments are saying ‘hey, we need KYC [‘know your customer’ - processes to guard against money laundering and other regulatory issues], we need to come over to them and say ‘OK, great, what KYC standards do you need, that still protects customers’ privacy, but allows you to get enough information to know what the sources of these funds are, and are people paying their taxes?’”That kind of protection would lead to greater adoption of cryptocurrency by banks and governments and lead to people “letting it into their lives”.Long term, Kristy-Leigh has a vision for national currencies to be conducted on a blockchain. Just as each currency note now has its own serial number, each transaction would be traceable on the blockchain. The physical aspect of money is “clunky and it’s prone to errors and it’s prone to laundering”. Instead, there’ll be a “digital-backed system with asset IDs that are tracked”. It’s a big ambition because it would entail more discipline from governments: they wouldn’t be able to print more money to fix their problems. But Kristy-Leigh is bullish about the prospects: “all it takes is one country to adopt it and the rest will have to play catchup.”
