Bitcoin ETFs just bled $630.4 million in a single day — the biggest outflow in over three months — as BTC broke below $80K to $79,200, Solana cratered 5.6%, and BlackRock's IBIT led the redemptions on the back of hot inflation data and Xi's Taiwan warning to Trump. The macro shakeout collides with the most pivotal crypto policy moment of the year: the Senate Banking Committee is marking up the 309-page CLARITY Act today with over 100 amendments on the table, while Coinbase's Brian Armstrong calls it a "true compromise" that could transform US finance. Add Metaplanet's $725M Q1 loss on its 40,177 BTC stack and Anthony Scaramucci doubling down on his S-curve adoption thesis, and the question becomes: is this the bottom — or just the beginning of the shakeout? Is the Bitcoin bottom finally in? Tom Lee thinks so, calling a turning point after the Iran ceasefire as his firm aggressively accumulates ETH and crypto funds see renewed inflows. At the same time, Morgan Stanley just launched the first major U.S. bank Bitcoin ETF, signaling that Wall Street isn't waiting around—they're already positioning. Meanwhile, stablecoins are projected to reach trillions (even quadrillions) in volume, regulators are stepping in, and new innovations like quantum-resistant Bitcoin tools are reshaping the future of the space. So is this the start of the next bull market—or just another trap before the next move? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mark Yusko, chief investment officer at Morgan Creek Capital Management, says global uncertainty "is at the highest level it has ever been," which is why investors have been leaning into quality and other factors they understand and are comfortable with, but he says value-oriented investors should be looking for less-traveled paths, searching for opportunities where they feel really uncomfortable "and where it's hard to pull the trigger." Yusko discusses ETFs in the Market Call, but also talks current events, noting that "Volatility is disagreement about future outcomes." With the "ETF of the Week," Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi, turns to an actively managed municipal bond fund as a tax-time diversion, but he notes that the low-cost fund with a solid tax-free yield deserves long-term consideration too. Jamie Hopkins, co-author of "Your Retirement Sketchbook: 125 Retirement Planning Lessons from Financial Experts," discusses the new book, holes many people leave in their financial planning and how to take charge of the process and fill in the gaps.
Crypto is entering a major turning point as regulatory clarity begins to take shape in the U.S., with lawmakers advancing market structure discussions and a key hearing on tokenization happening today. At the same time, institutional demand is surging—Bitcoin ETFs just saw $2.5 billion in inflows this month, while major banks accelerate their push into stablecoins and tokenized assets. But beneath the surface, there are signs of tension, with Circle's stock dropping on regulatory concerns even as Tether moves toward its first full audit. With clarity arriving and big money flooding in, the question is whether this marks the start of crypto's next breakout—or a more volatile phase ahead.
Mark Yusko of Morgan Creek Capital sits down with Brandon Green to explain why Bitcoin's price has nothing to do with its value and why that distinction matters more than ever right now. They break down how futures markets suppress Bitcoin's spot price, why the four-year cycle played out exactly as expected, and how AI agents are already choosing Bitcoin as their native money.
Mark Yusko returns with his highly anticipated "Around the World: 10 Surprises for 2026," opening with a Top‑Gun‑worthy flyby through the global macro landscape before diving straight into the turbulence ahead. He breaks down the forces that could define the year: the K‑shaped economy, AI's outsized impact on GDP, the global debt bomb, the unraveling yen carry trade, Europe's political tightrope, China's long‑game positioning, and the next phase of Bitcoin's four‑year cycle. Mark explains why the risks everyone obsesses over often aren't the ones that matter, and where real opportunity tends to emerge when liquidity, psychology, and policy collide. As Viper reminds us, "A good pilot evaluates what's happened… so he can apply what he's learned." Want more? In this year-end edition of Back Around The World, Mark Yusko unpacks the highs, lows, and jaw-dropping surprises that shaped the global economy in 2025. The year opened with markets at record highs and investor euphoria, only to be jolted by tariff wars, recession fears, and wild volatility. Tariffs dominated headlines for months, sparking trade tensions and policy uncertainty that rattled global markets. Meanwhile, AI optimism and tech valuations soared to levels rivaling the dot-com bubble, even as economic fundamentals weakened. Bitcoin reached new all-time highs, gold surpassed $3,000, and global liquidity fueled a stunning rebound across equities despite mounting debt and consumer stress. As the year closed, animal spirits returned, but questions linger about whether this rally is built to last. Join us as we turn back the tape to discuss an extraordinary year for markets. Want more? The Last Trade: Mark Yusko breaks down why the bitcoin cycle isn't dead, how futures and index flows “tame” BTC, why gold and oil remain the real benchmarks, and what this year's post-peak reset signals about an adversarial, institutional future.---
In this episode of Around the World with Yusko, Mark Yusko applies Samuel Taylor Coleridge's concept of the "willing suspension of disbelief" to today's markets, challenging listeners to separate optimism from economic reality. From the birth of central banking to the AI-driven boom, Yusko traces how belief, leverage, and monetary policy have fueled centuries of speculative cycles. He examines bubbles from WeWork and Beyond Meat to nuclear startups and quantum computing, highlighting the widening gap between enthusiasm and the underlying fundamentals. Along the way, he contrasts fiat devaluation with the strength of scarce assets like gold and Bitcoin, dissects the "infinite money glitch" behind tech valuations, and considers what history suggests about the next correction. Blending sharp analysis and perspective, this episode offers a global, data-driven look at where he thinks we are in the investment cycle. Want more? Bitcoin has smashed a new all-time high of $111,861 on CoinMarketCap—and it happened on Bitcoin Pizza Day! Exactly 15 years ago, Laszlo Hanyecz spent 10,000 BTC on two pizzas in what's now seen as the first-ever real-world Bitcoin transaction. Today, those two pizzas are worth over $1.1 billion. Absolutely insane! This historic rally is being fueled by major institutional buying from Michael Saylor's Strategy, which now holds over 576,000 BTC, and a surge of inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs—over $609 million just yesterday. Adding to the momentum, a key stablecoin bill advancing in the U.S. Senate is giving markets hope for long-awaited regulatory clarity under a pro-crypto Trump administration. Michael Ball, president and lead portfolio manager at Weatherstone Capital Management, says that while the economy appears to be headed for a soft landing, that smooth ride and the first rate cuts have already been priced into the bond market, which means that bonds are not giving much cushion right now against any softness that could lead to a recession. He notes that higher quality bonds in floating-rate bank loans, short-term high yield and other niches are strong values in current conditions, especially when deriving income from sources like dividends is pricey, given stock market valuations. George Kinder, president, The Kinder Institute of Life Planning — a pioneer in the "life planning" realm of financial planning — discusses his latest project, a self-published book about achieving balance and happiness in life, called "The Three Domains of Freedom: Each Moment is Yours, Your Life is Yours, Civilization is Yours." Previously, Mark and Cory discussed why they believe interest rates are likely to settle into a more normalized range over the coming years, compared to the near zero interest rate period following the Great Financial Crisis, and why they believe this is likely to be a strong tailwind for long/short equity strategies going forward. As for the direction of broader equity markets, investors appear to be anxiously awaiting interest rate cuts to push stocks even higher, however, history suggests this optimism could be misplaced and that investors should be careful what they wish for. Listen in to find out why and we hope you enjoy the episode.
