The Philadelphia 76'ers season hasn't gone how we all hoped it would. But at the moment, they're winning games. Are the Flyers teasing us at the moment? Or should this team look to fight another season? This week, Harrison Grimm from LibertyBallers.com joined us for a great discussion about the Sixers and what should happen for the remainder of this season after so many injuries and sheer disappointment. But first, the guys talked about the Eagles heading to the Super Bowl, and the many ways this team has been resilient over this season. (Approx. 4:25)From there, they discussed the recent MLB Network list of shortstops and how Trea Turner is now ranked No. 10 after being ranked No. 5 last season. Is this indicative of a decline? (Approx. 14:10)They guys then moved on to talking about the Philadelphia Union being banned by FIFA from “registering new players for the next three transfer windows, and how this is reflective of an incompetent organization. (Approx. 23:00)Then the guys dove into some Flyers talk, and how Danny Briere has handled acquiring talented needed to take this team to the next level. Meanwhile, while we were recording, it was announced that the Flyers traded Morgan Frost for Calgary forward Andrei Kuzmenko. (Approx. 32:40)What they threw down on the Table this week was an in-depth discussion with Harrison Grimm from Liberty Ballers as we've been following a number of storylines with the Sixers. Should the Sixers tank as it pertains to the OKC first-round pick? Thoughts on Daryl Morey and his job security. So many injuries have allowed other players to show what they have - so who may be a key piece moving forward? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (Approx. 47:25)A big thank you to our friend of the show, Josh Shuster, from philadelphiasoccernow.com for filling in for the guys this week and cohosting with Jeff.Head over to our website for all of our podcasts and more: philadelphiasportstable.com.Follow us on BlueSky:Jeff: @jeffwarren.bsky.socialErik: @brickpollitt.bsky.socialFollow us on Threads:Jeff: @mrjeffwarrenErik: @slen1023The Show: @philadelphiasportstableFollow us on Twitter/X:Jeff: @Jeffrey_WarrenErik: @BrickPollittThe Show: @PhiladelphiaPSTFollow the show on Instagram: instagram.com/philadelphiasportstable.
The Philadelphia 76ers not only have the worst start in franchise history over the past decade, but there's drama filled with this team behind the scenes. Can this team dig out from the hole they've placed themselves into? This week, Harrison Grimm from SB Nation's LibertyBallers.com joined us for a great discussion about the team. But first, the guys reflected on their NFL predictions right off the bat, going through their division and wild card predictions before the season started. (Approx. 5:40)From there, the guys talked about the Eagles remaining schedule and whether or not they can get the top No. 1 seed in the NFC. (Approx. 21:20)The guys then got into some MLB Hall of Fame talk as the new ballot was released this week. Who should get into the Hall of Fame in 2025? (Approx. 29:35)They also dove into the Sixers debacle of a season, the drama behind the scenes with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and head coach Nick Nurse. (Approx. 38:10)On the Table this week, Harrison Grimm from Liberty Ballers joined us for an in-depth discussion about the Sixers, the drama behind the scenes, and what the future leadership of this team looks like. Can Nurse be effective for this team? Will the team gain any consistency when Embiid, Maxey, and Paul George start playing together over time? Is there a bright spot on the team? All of this and much more on the Table this week! The Philadelphia 76'ers are now a true force in the Eastern Conference. With the offseason acquisitions, mainly nabbing Paul George in free agency, this Sixers team is going to be a true powerhouse this coming season. Harrison Grimm from LibertyBallers.com helped us dissect these storylines this week as we look towards a promising Sixers season. But first, dove into some Eagles and NFL football talk, specifically how the Philadelphia Eagles have become a model NFL organization thanks to the evolution of GM Howie Roseman. (approx. 5:25)We then gave our thoughts on the top-5 NFL teams heading into this season and why.. (approx. 15:15)From there, we discussed how the Philadelphia Phillies have 7 players heading to the All-Star Game, and how there's an argument that more players could have been added to the mix. (approx. 26:40)Then we dove into the heist of the year. Apparently, thieves left a Dallas Baseball Card Show with a collection of rare cards worth more than $2 million. How does something like this happen? (approx. 33:25)From there, we talked about an ongoing theme with the Sixers: is Joel Embiid happy in Philly? (approx. 37:25)What we threw down on the Table this week was a fantastic and in-depth discussion with Harrison Grimm from Liberty Ballers about how the Sixers season has put them in a great position in the Eastern Conference. Paul George will be a force on this team, and the addition of Caleb Martin will be fun to watch in the postseason. Thoughts on Andre Drummond once again backing up Joel Embiid. Kevin talks about the Sixers signing of Paul George. Where does it put them in the Eastern Conference? What other moves to they need to make. He then gets into some Philly talk with Scott Lauber of the Inquirer. Ky Carlin of Liberty Ballers joins Kevin to give more insight on the Sixers offseason. The last hour of the show, Philly sportswriter Mike Kern joins Kevin in-studio.
Tom Alvord hosts this edition of Fanatic Weekend. Tom's joined by Kevin Cooney for the first hour of the show, where the two of them examine the 76ers offseason and look ahead to the Phillies vs Marlins game. Then Tom anticipates whether or not Paul George will opt-in or out of his contract with the Clippers. Tom and Josh discuss what would be the worst path for the 76ers this offseason. Just moments later, the breaking news comes in, Paul George declines his player option with the LA Clippers. Callers react and Tom is joined by Dave Early of Liberty Ballers to dive deeper into Paul George's potential fit with the 76ers, what the chances are the Sixers land George, and what else the 76ers can do if they do in-fact sign Paul George. For the remainder of the show Tom discusses the likelihood of signing Paul George and if he will sign with Philadelphia. Also, if George makes $50 million, what pieces can go around him? Where do the 76ers rank in the east if they do sign George? The Phillies lose 3-2 to the Marlins. Tom reacts to a lackluster offense and we hear from Rob Thomson.
Bryce Harper seems to have reached another level. Is this his peak, or is thee still more we have yet to see from him? Have we seen the peak of Jalen Hurts or Joel Embiid? The Best Show Ever talks about all 3, and how we shouldn't expect our players to fall off until they give us a reason to think they have. They also dig deeper into Harper, and if he has a chance to go down as the greatest Phillies player ever. The Philadelphia 76'ers are mind-boggling at this point as we're looking toward 2024. Not only did they shove it up the Timberwolves butts this past week, but Joel Embiid is actually becoming an even better basketball player. With elements of this team playing very cohesive basketball, what might the fortunes of this team bring us fans in the future? Harrison Grimm from LibertyBallers.com joined us this week for a deep-dive into this Sixers team. It was a great discussion! But first, we dove some listener feedback in response to our recent segment about the Kelce brothers' media narrative. (approx. 6:10)We then discussed how this Eagles team has been floundering, whether they can actually beat the Giants this season, as well as some other NFL quick hits. (approx. 13:25)From there, we dove into a story that was posted on one of our favorite Phillies sites about what the meeting between the Phils and Yamamoto's camp means for the organization long-term even if they don't land the Japanese superstar? (approx. 34:20)We then discussed some NBA quick hit stories: Draymond Green's indefinite suspension, and why the Pistons are such an awful team, as well as how fun it has been to watch the Sixers and Joel Embiid. (approx. 39:40)What we threw down on the Table this week was an in-depth discussion and interview with Harrison Grimm from Liberty Ballers about what we've been witnessing from this Sixers team. The Philadelphia 76'ers season is almost upon us! Adio Royster and David Early go on vacation for two weeks, and all hell breaks loose in the Philadelphia 76ers landscape. Fans are down on the Sixers off-season. A recent SB Nation Reacts poll started by Jackson Frank of Liberty Ballers suggests that fans are grading this off-season kind of harshly. (The 51% percent of you that graded "D" or "F", anyways.) A good amount are grading as incompletes depending on the trade status of Damian Lillard or James Harden. Speaking of which, there have been updates for both players! Damian Lillard wants out of Portland (to Miami only), and he and his agent get slapped down by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. James Harden still wants to be traded, but the one team he wants to go to isn't playing nice when it comes to shelling out proper pieces (or even pieces that keep the Sixers contending). How is the rest of this off-season going to go with training camp right around the corner? Paul Hudrick from Liberty Ballers joined the show to discuss what he thinks is the Sixers best path to a championship.
The word of the day was plausible. They open the show discussing the Phillies baffling choice to still go with bullpen games, and also about the Nuggets winning the NBA Finals with a center as their best player, and if it is plausible if the Sixers can do the same with Joel Embiid (0:00). They head to the phones to see if they think it is plausible Joel Embiid could win a title like Jokic just did, or if they have already given up on him after the ugly end to this season (14:30). In Hunter's History minute, he is challenged to speak for one minute on Wesley Snipes, and it goes very poorly (1:19:20). They get back to the phones, and talk more about if Joel Embiid can win a ring here, and the scourge of the bullpen games in Philly (1:25:04). Paul Hudrick from Liberty Ballers joins the show to talks Sixers off season plans (1:53:12). They check in with Jen Scordo to see what was brewing with her today (2:08:32). They take you calls about Joel Embiid for the rest of the show (2:16:03).
Paul Hudrick from Liberty Ballers joined us to discuss Game 2!
The word of the day is launch, because tomorrow's launches the Sixers playoffs. They discuss why this year could be different, and why we shouldn't hold the losses of the past against this specific team (0:00). They go to the phones, talk more Sixers and a little bit of Phillies, and play a game with the callers for a chance to win tickets to game 1 of the Sixers- Nets series, but unfortunately, the callers have a little bit of a hard time with it early on (11:42). Paul Hudrick from Liberty Ballers joins the show to preview the Sixers Playoff run (1:27:05). They take more calls (unfortunately) and the quality of guesses in the contest for the Sixers tickets does not improve much (1:40:51). Sixers TV Voice Kate Scott joins the show to talk Sixers ahead of the playoffs starting (1:49:41). They check in with Jen Scordo to see what was brewing with her today (2:04:10). Their personal hell continues, as the callers continue to struggle to come up with any competent answers for the Guess the Sixer contest, and they also take some time off from that nonsense to have their words taken out of context and Jen's Tasting Table (2:23:18).
Paul Hudrick from Liberty Ballers joins the show to talk Sixers- Nets!
The word of the day is health. Because it is an issue plaguing the Phillies. They react to the news that Darick Hall is hurt, and will miss a couple of months, and their nervousness about Clemens being the replacement (0:00). They take some calls, continue to talk Phillies, and also get into why it is not a real issue that the Sixers didn't look good against the Heat last night because the game didn't matter and all that did matter was them staying healthy (13:03). Once the Phillies game starts, they start the Johnson and Brodes cast, where they react to what is happening in the game while continuing to discuss the Phillies and their slow start (44:42). Ryan Blackburn brings on Bryan Toporek of Forbes and Liberty Ballers to discuss Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers in-depth (recorded before the announcement of All-Star starters, of which Embiid was snubbed). Ryan and Bryan discuss Nets vs Sixers and where the Sixers stand as a contender. Then, they get Bryan's opinion on the Nuggets, load management, and the Western Conference playoff field. Finally, they preview Saturday's game, the different matchups involved, and just how motivated both teams will be to win this one.
Bryan Toporek from Liberty Ballers and Jason Timperley join me to discuss the Sixers trade targets and whether they can realistically acquire anyone who moves the needle, some marginal upgrades or will ownership be cheap and dodge the repeater tax. We ran through all of the issues that the Sixers could face at this trade deadline with a lack of assets, salary matching, a bad market for buyers and how they will have to be creative to improve the team. On the full episode we discussed the Guards Wings and Bigs the Sixers could target at this deadline, what it would cost to get them and their fits on the current version of the team. Also how has Morey handled these situations before and should this be their all in push considering health, age and how the team has been playing? Enjoy.
