On this episode of the Three-Inning Save podcast, the Dodgers are up 2-0 in the National League Championship Series after brilliant starts by Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Snell in Game 1 was the first MLB pitcher to face the minimum in eight or more innings in the postseason since Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series. Yamamoto in Game 2 pitched the first MLB postseason complete game in eight years, and the first by a Dodgers pitcher since José Lima in 2004. Also, Max Muncy broke the Dodgers all-time postseason home run record. Now the series returns to Los Angeles with the Dodgers in command. Tyler Glasnow starts on the mound in Game 3, and Shohei Ohtani in Game 4 at Dodger Stadium. The Three-Inning Save is part of the Fans First Sports Network. Blake Snell had the Postseason performance of a lifetime on Monday, dominating the Brewers for eight innings and leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to victory in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. Snell allowed just one baserunner — a hit to Caleb Durbin, whom he promptly picked off — in facing the minimum over eight scoreless innings. Roki Sasaki came in for the ninth to preserve LA's 2-0 lead, but he didn't have it tonight. Sasaki got two outs and allowed one run, leaving with runners on the corners and Blake Treinen entering to bail him out. Treinen was up to the task, walking William Contreras to load the bases before striking out Brice Turang to end the game. Oh yeah, and there was the weirdest "grounded into a double play" you'll ever see, simply because when you think of a GIDP, you think of a ground ball, because it's right there in the name. But Max Muncy hit a 404-foot fly ball that never touched the ground, yet somehow it turned into an 8-6-2-5 GIDP to kill a rally. Since the Dodgers won, we can look back on how dumb and unlucky it was and just kind of laugh. Tube in all postseason long! We got Liván Hernández, Greg Maddux, and a big strike zone for left-handed hitters. Hear why this was the most shocking league championship series round to that point, when quantifying via the betting markets for every series since they started playing this round back in 1969 — No. 1 by a mile. In the time since, only 2010 tops it. KAMALA GOES ON FOX? PROVES TRUMP IS A P**** A** B**** - 10.15.24

Countdown with Keith Olbermann

SERIES 3 EPISODE 49: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Oh my God is this perfect. Kamala Harris doing an interview on Fox with Bret Baier tomorrow night pushes ALL the fascist buttons, all at once, and she ESPECIALLY pushes the one button that proves, as Chrissy Teigen tweeted and Rep. Maxwell Frost got entered into a Congressional hearing, that Trump remains a "P.A.B." Can you IMAGINE Trump sitting down to be interviewed by Maddow, or for God's sakes even Andrea Mitchell. Or the Meidas Network guys. Or me? It is not only enraging Trump now, not just tomorrow, but for the rest of the campaign. Every moment. He cannot stop it. He cannot stop his own insanity, he cannot hope to contain it; there is an excellent chance it will literally push him fully over the edge and he will start dropping n-words. Trump only found out in late afternoon and promptly lost it. He attacked Fox as ‘weak and soft”, he called Baier “Fair and balanced” and meant it as an insult. On TOP of which, Trump had already been raging about Fox letting liberals on its network. Now there is a chance that even the Washington Post and New York Times political reporters will skip whatever D-C cocktail party they were going to go to Wednesday night in hopes of getting into Politico's “Spotted” column and start asking the Trump mouthpieces and the Republicans why if SHE can go on Fox, he can't go on MSNBC. Or Washington Post Live. Or a New York Times cocktail party. This also, I think, finally puts a stake through the she's-not-doing-interviews canard, and transforms that entire issue into a journalistic bidding war. If you're wondering if Baier might trip up Harris - worry more about Harris tripping up Baier. Madame Vice President? Ask HIM some questions. Ask HIM where Fox is, covering the guys who joined Lara Trump's boat parade while flying Trump Flags and Nazi Flags with swastikas on them. Ask HIM where Fox is covering Trump's obvious mental decline and whether he's had a stroke or a tumor. Ask HIM where Fox is about Trump saying the military should be deployed against his enemies, and at the election three weeks from now. Ask HIM where Fox is covering Trump's promise to invoke a law that lets him imprison or expel ALL Hispanics in this country based only on race. Or ALL African-Americans. Or ALL German-Irish-Americans named Baier. PLUS: Now we know why Trump has been forced to do the stupidest thing possible, eight days before the election: spend a vital campaign day in New York, a state he cannot win. He is hosting a high-end fundraiser. If you're trading campaign time for campaign funds this late - you're losing. B-Block (22:14) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A hospital in the UK's National Health Service is now renting out wheelchairs £2 an hour. Hockey's Ottawa Senators failed to give away the Zamboni-Shaped Gravy Boats they promised yesterday. How is Canada supposed to put gravy on the biscuit it just put in the basket? And hi I'm David McCormick I'm running for the Senate from Pennsylvania and I am NOT actually from Connecticut. See me rooting for the Philadelphia Steelers? C-Block (33:42) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: After the Mets tied up the National League Championship Series yesterday it means we still have the chance of another Mets-Yankees all-New York World Series. So while it's still a possibility, let me tell you how I wound up on the periphery of the biggest moment of the last one, in 2000, when Roger Clemens threw Mike Piazza's broken bat at him (if you're a Mets fan) or he didn't (if you're a Yankees fan) or how he actually threw it straight at me (if you were me, reporting for Fox from the camera well next to the dugout). Also why Mike Piazza threatened to sue me over it.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

October 15, 1988 - With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Kirk Gibson hits a pinch-hit home run off Dennis Eckersley to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5 - 4 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Game One of the World Series. Gibson, who injured himself making a game saving catch in the National League Championship Series, never came out for game one introductions and never took batting practice spending the entire game on the trainer's table receiving treatment with Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda checking on him between innings. Inning after inning, Lasorda checked and was given the thumbs down each time until the bottom of the ninth with the A's leading 4-3 when the clubhouse boy told Lasorda that Gibson wanted to speak to him. ”I think I can hit for you, Skipper” was the message Lasorda heard when he arrived in the trainer's room. Eckersley got the first 2 batters out. Alfredo Griffin was next up when Lasorda sent Mike Davis to the plate instead, with Gibson warming up unbeknownst to anyone. As Eck settled in to pitch, Lasorda sent Dave Anderson to the on deck circle.Eckersley took notice and decided he wasn't going to let Davis hit it out of the ballpark. He worked the count to 3-2 and walked Davis. “Now get out there Big Boy” Lasorda ordered Gibson, whose appearance sent the crowd into a frenzy. Lasorda decided Gibson had two swings to try and hit it out of the park and then he gave Davis the green light to steal 2nd. With 1st base open, the A's chose not to walk Gibson who worked the count to 3-2 andGibson launched the next pitch out of the park. Vin Scully's call of the play say's it all “"In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!"October 15, 1970 - For the third time, the Baltimore Orioles overcome a 3 - 0 deficit to bury the Cincinnati Reds, 9 - 3, and win the World Series in five games. Brooks Robinson won the World Series Most Valuable Player Award hitting .429 and breaking the record for total bases with seventeen. Robinsons stellar fielding earned him the nickname “Hoover”.

The bases were loaded. Mark Vientos was up. Then the bases were unloaded and the Mets were soon on their way to tying the National League Championship Series at one game apiece. Sound familiar? A Mets fan could get used to clutch postseason grand slams when not squirming uncomfortably while crossing fingers, toes and everything else that a sizable lead doesn't shrink, let alone vanish. The emotional whirlwind is all part of the rich tapestry of October baseball that continues to make for a month like few others in Mets history. Greg and Jeff come up for air long enough to savor it before going back to alternately high-fiving and worrying their heads off.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE COURT CREATES "PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY?" - 3.1.24

Countdown with Keith Olbermann

SERIES 2 EPISODE 133: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: What happens if the Supreme Court – I'm sorry – Trump's newest Super-PAC, John Roberts, Treasurer – takes the next step and not only listens to his shroom-high concept of “presidential immunity” late next month in order to stall his trials – but actually CREATES “presidential immunity.” What ACTUALLY happens TO this country, AT that exact moment? I still do think the STALL is the POINT; not granting all presidents immunity from all prosecutions for all time. But again, the stall itself raises the question: exactly what the hell do I know? But let me present  this grim silver lining in the form of a rhetorical question. You think about it, I'll think about it. I'll address it at length at the start of the new week: What happens to the nature of this country – what happens to the nature of our government – what happens to the nature of the presidency, if the Supreme Court actually rules no president can be prosecuted for official acts? What happens THAT instant? And combine that with not a rhetorical question but a simple factual one. The day the Supreme Court effectively turns the President of the United States into a King… WHO will BE president of the United States? And could Jack Smith's response to the SCOTUS prosecutorial and electoral interference actually be to indict Ginni Thomas and present John Roberts with an insoluble crisis inside his whorehouse? Plus I don't entirely trust the source, but there is startling polling suggesting the Democrats can turn immigration and border security from their biggest liability to a plus-seven in polling by simply making a big deal out of all the immigration and border security compromises they already agreed to - and acting on whatever they can. B-Block (16:32) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: A good time to bring you his brilliant array of political commentary disguised as fables with birds and bears in them. And a Peacelike Mongoose. C-Block (31:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: To conclude Baseball Spring Training Week, I am still startled that the game was once so important that a rival guy went on a rival Los Angeles newscast and insisted that though they had just lost the National League Championship Series, the Dodgers were obligated to...go to a judge and get a court order to play in the World Series anyway!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
