Jackson Frank of Dime Uproxx and Liberty Ballers joins Justin and Carter to discuss what Georges Niang can bring to the Cavs, his assessment of Cleveland's offseason, as well as discuss what to make of the Philadelphia 76ers next season. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Philadelphia 76ers vs. James Harden continues! Per reporting from Tom West, the NBA launched an investigation into what led Harden to call Daryl Morey a liar while entertaining a group of fans in China. There has been much speculation as far as what kind of "deal" Harden and Morey made last off-season that would lead Harden to say such things about his BFF. It could also be as simple as Harden being upset that Morey did not trade him to his only choice of destination -- the Los Angeles Clippers. Adio Royster and David Early discuss this new aspect of this ongoing saga. After the break, they try to gain a sense of what locker room chemistry would look like with Harden in tow. Jackson Frank posted an SB Nation Poll and 36% of respondents believe there would NOT be a Harden trade before the season begins on October 28th against the Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin. Right now, Joel Embiid is happy to be a Sixer -- which is what ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne is reporting. However, comments made by newly signed guard Patrick Beverly could pose another dynamic that could upset the team chemistry and locker room atmosphere. Adio Royster and David Early go on vacation for two weeks, and all hell breaks loose in the Philadelphia 76ers landscape. Fans are down on the Sixers off-season. A recent SB Nation Reacts poll started by Jackson Frank of Liberty Ballers suggests that fans are grading this off-season kind of harshly. (The 51% percent of you that graded "D" or "F", anyways.) A good amount are grading as incompletes depending on the trade status of Damian Lillard or James Harden. Speaking of which, there have been updates for both players! Damian Lillard wants out of Portland (to Miami only), and he and his agent get slapped down by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. James Harden still wants to be traded, but the one team he wants to go to isn't playing nice when it comes to shelling out proper pieces (or even pieces that keep the Sixers contending). How is the rest of this off-season going to go with training camp right around the corner? Adio and David discuss that and more (such as Adio's thoughts on the re-release of the Philadelphia Eagles Kelly Green jerseys). Follow Adio on Twitter. Follow David on Twitter. Christmas time has passed. Christmas time has passed. (Just assume your hosts are singing that like in the beginning of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.) The Philadelphia 76ers have won eight in a row after their 119-112 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day. The boys in red and white (very Christmassy, by the way) were fueled by performances by Joel Embiid (35 points, eight rebounds), James Harden (29 points, 13 assists) as well as some hot shooting from De'Anthony Melton and Georges Niang – particularly from the “Mini Van” in the fourth quarter. Things are going good. So, something has to happen to change the mood, right? Well, the mood is improved even moreso thanks to a report from Jackson Frank that says that Tyrese Maxey could be returning to the lineup THIS FRIDAY against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Sixers commented that Maxey might be put on a minutes restriction to start since he is returning from a fractured foot. With Maxey's return, Adio Royster and David Early try to figure out what kind of boost the young 22-year-old guard will bring to a team that is surging. The pendulum swung the other way with a report to dampen moods a little. Before the game against the Knicks, a report from Woj suggested that James Harden is interested in returning to the Houston Rockets in the off-season. We don't know where the report came from. We don't know what purpose the report serves, but as always, it is worth unpacking because we've seen this playbook from Harden in the past. Another report from Ian Begley hints that the Knicks have discussed internally about the prospect of trading for Tobias Harris. Is that transaction even possible? Do the Knicks have anyone the Sixers would want to get the team to the NBA Finals? Lastly, Adio adds a new title to his list of many responsibilities at Liberty Ballers. Rex Chapman may have cornered the market on the “block or charge” debate on Twitter, but who's doing it ON actual podcasts. Well, Adio is with his “Yams Defender” segment towards the end of the pod. Locked On Zags - Daily Podcast On Gonzaga Bulldogs Basketball
Big East commissioner Val Ackerman spoke about conference realignment on Tuesday, expressing confidence in the current member schools but hinting that expansion could happen when the league negotiates a new media rights deal in 2025. Ackerman also indicated the league had informal discussions with multiple schools, of which Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs almost certainly are included. But will the distance from Spokane, Washington to the other member schools be a hurdle too difficult to overcome? And will the Zags wait that long while still in the WCC?Today's show also discusses Corey Kispert's second season in Washington, where he will miss a few weeks with an ankle injury. What will his role look like when he returns? We close out the show discussing Jalen Suggs, who is amazingly healthy enough to play in game one despite a nasty knee injury suffered in preseason.
And will the Zags wait that long while still in the WCC? First we addressed the new Kyrie to the Sixers rumors and talked about why we think it is a long shot that this ever happens ... for many reasons. Next we discussed the slightly more realistic but still hard to accomplish Eric Gordon to the Sixers rumors that won't seem to go away. And then we ran down the Sixers acquisitions this offseason including PJ Tucker, Danuel House, and De'Anthony Melton. We discussed their fit on the team, the new vision of building around Maxey, Harden and Embiid with defensive minded players and who will be the starting small forward to start next season. Enjoy!
