It is TV Theme Songs Week at Consequence, where we have been ranking and deep-diving into your favorite TV themes. One iconic theme is “Tossed Salad and Scramble Eggs” from Frasier, and with the show freshly rebooted for a sequel series on Paramount+, it was also time for a fresh take on the song. To learn more about this and the current state of TV theme songs, Liz Shannon Miller spoke to composers Bruce and Jason T. Miller.Bruce composed the original Frasier theme (along with Wings, Becker, and others), and brought on his son, Jason (‘Til Death, The Odd Couple -- as well as tracks for Kanye West, Keyshia Cole, and Reba McEntire) for the reboot to match the story seeing Frasier himself (Kelsey Grammer) reconnecting with his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott).The Millers are not only father and son, but they are also best friends and creative partners. This is why getting their boots-on-the-ground perspective about their Frasier revamp and the current state of the theme song literally blew our socks off. “It was like, 'Don't mention anything about Seattle, nothing about crazy people, nothing about psychiatry, psychology, anything that has to do with the show, but make it germane to the show,'" Bruce recalls of writing the original theme.Check out the Frasier on Paramount + here.Listen to the full interview with Bruce and Jason T. Miller now and you can read the full article on Consequence.net. You can also check out our new "I Never Skip Intro" merch collection, a celebration of those who always stick around for a classic theme, including a T-shirt, hat, and holographic sticker. In 2015, Liz Shannon Miller told her friend Frank Smith what happened in DUNE: the novels written by Frank Herbert et al, the film adaptation directed by David Lynch, other attempts to bring DUNE to life over the years, and maybe even JUPITER ASCENDING a little bit, just for shits and giggles. And now you can hear what was said!
After an impressive run in last year's Singles tournament, Liz Shannon Miller is looking to establish herself as one of the best in the division. But to do so, she will have to run into one of the greats as former champion John Rocha is hungry to get back in the win column and on a path back to the belt. Who will come out on top? And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. After two long years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe desert, since Avengers: Endgame and its postscript Spider-Man: Far from Home, Marvel’s mightiest are back on the air. For the first MCU series on Disney Plus, we have WandaVision, a TV show that is very much about TV shows and what the medium means to us. The comfy-cozy sitcom rhythm of the show, as Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany’s Vision make-believe they’re on the sets of The Dick Van Dyke Show or Family Ties, is interrupted by unsettling reminders of where we left these characters. Wanda was grieving--because Vision was dead. What’s going on here? Don’t change that channel, because Paul, Arlo, and special guest Michael Holland--currently post-production supervisor on The Afterparty--discuss how showrunner Jac Schaeffer and director Matt Shakman channel grief, capture the nostalgic spirit of old TV, weaponize fan expectations, and more. NEXT: we’ll be back, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel. It's time for the Movie Trivia Schmoedown! Today's singles division match features two rookies looking to make a name for themselves. Liz Shannon Miller, an online news editor, faces off against comedian and podcaster Demi Adejuyigbe. Miller is no stranger to the Schmoedown, as she was suggested to join the league by the wife of former champion Ethan Erwin (who argued Miller's knowledge was as good, if not better, than Big Time himself). Adejuyigbe's resume includes writing stints on shows such as The Good Place and the Late Late Show with James Corden. Despite their chops in the real world, can either of them prove to be successful inside the Schmoedown ring? We'll find out in this three-round movie trivia head-to-head competition. A spinoff of CBS' critically acclaimed "The Good Wife," Robert and Michelle King's "The Good Fight" helped launch CBS All Access last year when that streaming service furst launched. The show returned this spring for Season 2, with Christine Baranski back as Diane Lockhart, along with co-stars Delroy Lindo, Cush Jumbo, Sarah Steele, Rose Leslie and new cast member Audra McDonald. Earlier this year, IndieWire TV editor Liz Shannon Miller sat down with the Kings to talk about the show and how they've adjusted to producing the spinoff for a new platform. And that includes letting Christine Baranski rip a few F-bombs. (Music by Omar Khan and HookSounds.)
HBO's new comedy 'Insecure' is like nothing else on television, an honest portrayal of Issa Rae as an African American women who is just trying to figure out what they want out of life. We sat down with Prentice to hear how it's going – and how "Insecure" depicts code-switching, dating, South Los Angeles, and so much more. Also on this edition, Liz Shannon Miller discusses "Girls" executive producer Jenni Konner's recent account of how Lena Dunham was accosted inappropriately by a producer, and Ben Travers on whether Sarah Jessica Parker's new HBO show "Divorce" is worth watching.
This week, Liz Shannon Miller and Ben Travers dig into the recent release of new comedies like "The Last Man on Earth" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," plus pick the shows they're most excited about next.
In Indiewire's first TV podcast, editors Liz Shannon Miller and Ben Travers look back on the legacy of "True Detective."
