Central planning always fails, without exception. Civilization is never created from a blueprint developed in the imaginations of a few elitists. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Civilization is always destroyed by central planners. So why do people constantly find themselves suffering under the yolk of utopians, when the only possible endgame is failure?

Yesterday we saw Israel defeated at the hands of the Philistines. Israel should have seen this as an act of God against them, examined their hearts and repented. But instead, the compound their wickedness, by attempting to manipulate God, using the ark of the covenant as a 'lucky charm'. And to add insult to injury the transporters of the ark, are the wicked sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas. God's judgement is fierce. 1 Samuel 4:4 So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli's two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. 5 When the ark of the Lord's covenant came into the camp, all Israel raised such a great shout that the ground shook. 6 Hearing the uproar, the Philistines asked, “What's all this shouting in the Hebrew camp?” When they learned that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp, 7 the Philistines were afraid. “A god has come into the camp,” they said. “Oh no! Nothing like this has happened before. 8 We're doomed! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.

A little while back I got a message from Kathryn who's struggling to surrender to God's will for vocation, career, and living situation. She wrote, “Every time I surrender what I want to God I just get sad, like I'm giving up. How can I surrender my desires God when I don't even think he cares, when I don't think he wants to give me what I want?” My heart went out to Kathryn and I knew right away I wanted to devote an entire episode to her question. During my vocational discernment journey, I did many ugly cries in adoration struggling with exactly this same issue. In this first-of-its-kind Q&A episode, I'm sharing how to build your trust in God for true peace and an unstoppable faith. Leaning into this massive question is scary, hard, and uncomfortable. But I'm absolutely stoked for Kathryn and anyone in this particular struggle because it's the threshold of an entirely new, authentic life. We break down the Sixers collapse, everything from Ben Simmons to Doc Rivers. We also talk about our expectations for the Hawks vs. Bucks. And in the West, the Suns face off with the Clippers. There have also been many off court stories with the Kemba Walker deal, and rumors about Luka and Zion being unhappy. We also discuss the NHL playoffs, and a few other hockey stories. The big news in baseball is the crackdown on all sticky substances. We also bring up the terrible stretch that the Arizona Diamondbacks have been on. Tom Brady and Mahomes are the Madden cover athletes (with some false advertising from EA Sports), and Brady also blew up the moon. We also have a few random stories including the Supreme Court coming down hard on the NCAA. Fails this week include DC Comics and Dick Vitale. We also cover the issues of Markelle Fultz, who definitely could have helped the Sixers if things had gone differently. Finally, we debate whether we would rather watch a game in person or on tv. Your College Bound Kid | Scholarships, Admission, & Financial Aid Strategies
In this episode you will hear: (07:08) In this week's “In the news segment”, an article from Ron Lieber of The New York Times. The article is entitled, “High Schools Are Producing Their College Lists. Don't be misled.” The article talks about how in some high schools, there is so much buzz and emphasis on the list of where kids go to college. Mark and Dave talks about why this is an unreliable way to evaluate a high school. Mark has a confession of how he used these lists for pure marketing reasons when he was doing boarding school admissions. Mark and Dave return to their discussion of those who are “Just folks” vs “those who have built in lobbyists”. (28:33) This week's question is from Yvette in California. Yvette's child had outstanding academic success in high school but she was left really disappointed and even astonished with the bad news she received when admissions decisions were released. Yvette has a series of questions about “what happened” and what should she do next. Mark and Lisa will answer Yvette's questions in episode 177 and in 178 in the question segment. Part 1 of 2 (46:43) This week's interview is the VP of Enrollment at Babson college, Courtney Minden. We look at ‘The new ways colleges recruit'. In Part 2 of 3, Courtney addresses the following topics: Courtney discusses Babson's senior fellow interview program, what is it and is it informational only or are these interviews evaluative? Courtney tells us what Platform Q is, why Babson uses them and how they used platform Q? Courtney talks about virtual high school visits and virtual college fairs and we have a candid discussion about how effective virtual college fairs are. Daniel McCarthy, a successful businessman, made a name for himself in Arizona politics after mounting an unsuccessful U.S. Senate primary run against former Sen. Martha McSally in 2020. While he lost that race, McCarthy established himself as a voice of a faction of Arizona conservatives who see both major political parties as failing them. McCarthy viewed his loss to McSally as an early sign of a rigged election, a baseless claim that has wider support after former President Trump has pushed the same narrative following his defeat. McCarthy is trying to form another political option in Arizona, the Patriot Party, and that has caught the eye of Republicans trying to reshape that party. During the annual Arizona GOP meeting to elect party leadership he was booed off stage by attendees. Is McCarthy still a Republican? What does he want for Arizona policy? How will he influence the 2022 elections? Listen to this week's episode of The Gaggle: An Arizona politics podcast, hosts Yvonne Wingett Sanchez and Ronald J. Hansen to hear an unfiltered conversation with McCarthy.

Happy Satiated Saturday!I want you to think of a special relationship you have in your life. Maybe this is with a friend, a parent, a family member. It took time to build trust with this person. Every time they showed up for you, every time they picked up the phone when you needed them, every time they gave you a ride to the airport, every time they offered a shoulder to cry on, this was noted where they became someone you could trust. That trust can lead to feeling safe in the world. The same can be said for our relationship with our body. When we trust our body, this can cultivate a sense of confidence, safety, and self empowerment. We aren't born trusting or mistrusting our body. Based on our life experiences, that is learned over time.In this week's episode, I will share 3 Trust Interrupters and 3 Trust Enhancers to deepen into relationship with your body. You can also read the transcript to this week's episode here. Take all the time you need on this body trust journey. Just how it took years to get to where you are today in your relationship with your body, it will take time to create the kind of relationship you would like to have with it now. Who are you trusting with your money? We’ve all received some crappy advice at some point in our lives, but when it comes to our personal finances we need to make sure that we’re listening to the right folks. One of the reasons it can be so difficult today is due to social media and entertainment- there are a lot of self-appointed “experts” these days and it can be difficult to tell the difference between sound financial advice and an account or a show that’s meant to just amuse you. For most folks, it might be easier to sniff out a blatant scam where someone is out to swindle you. But potentially even more dangerous- what about the instances of friends or family members who think they’re giving us good advice? Those are situations where they probably have good intentions, but it’s just not the right advice for you. We run the gamut between headlines and social media to financial advisors, and we also discuss how you can determine if the advice you’re hearing is right for you. Harris County Democratic Party Chair Lillie Schechter speaks on Democratic winning. Professor Glaude busts the American myth. Why they don't trust. Lillie Schechter is the retiring Harris County Democratic Party Chair. Texas' Harris County is a bellwether county and the third-largest county in the country, Los Angeles and Cook County Illinois the only two more populous. Under her reign, Democrats have thrived not only in winning all major elections but getting out the vote. Professor Eddie Glaude used the massacre in Tulsa, Oklahoma's “Black Wall Street” to bust the American myth. The Johnson & Johnson talcum powder lawsuit is an example of why one must be very careful in questioning those who are fearful of the vaccine for the loss of trust. --- If you like what we do please do the following! The left is pushing hard for a Jan 6 Commission in the style of 9/11 as they over hype and push false narratives of the events at the capitol. Nothing in the Democrat's history even remotely suggests they can be trusted. In the last 12 years alone the Democrats have engaged in massive abuses of power, used Government to attack political opponents to influence elections. Look how corrupt the Mueller Probe was that issued a report that has been completely discredited and debunked. Yet they used that baseless investigation to use as a political weapon against GOP in 2018. If they get the Jan 6 commission, the Dems would use it to not only target Trump yet again, they would target all GOP candidates, their donors, free speech platforms, conservative influencers, and sponsors of conservative shows to shut Republicans out of the election completely. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thejacobjohnstonshow/message
