“The year of the Lord's favor” (NRSV) in Isaiah 61:2 is a kind of jubilee year, but it is not simply an observance of Leviticus 25.

2020 was a rough year, in fact so rough that it almost killed me. However, the things I went through in 2020 while still sometimes difficult to sallow, have brought me so much closer to the Lord. I share my brief story and thoughts as I went from being on the verge of suicide to walking into 2020 stronger than I have ever been.

The year of the Lord's favor, when God comes among us and puts things right that have been wrong for so long, delivering the weary and the dispossessed from their oppression, such glad tidings don't come as good news to the folks who have everything to gain by things staying the same. Because God isn't just saying pretty words. God will persist until the scales of justice have been balanced, until those who've lived so long with nothing have enough, until the widow, the orphan, and the stranger are accorded the dignity and protection their status as God's beloved confers. God will be their champion—not just in pretty words, but in the very real press of life. Subscribe to us on iTunes! You Can experience the favor of God in an evil society. We see God's favor in the story of Noah and his family but everyone and everything else was destroyed in the Flood. Noah believed in and worshiped God and he was shown favor. You too can ask the favor of God. Even evil King Manasseh later repented and humbled himself to God and was given favor later in his life. Repentance and humility can bring about the favor of God. We too can know God and receive His favor for our lives and our family, our community, our nation, and the world. May the favor of the Lord out God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us.

Isaiah 61: 1 - 11, Will Turner
Pastor JD begins a brand new series titled "Look Beyond". In Numbers 32, there is a story about leaders wanting to settle in their portion of the Promised Land before their brothers and sisters conquer their portion. During this series we will explore the lessons and ideas from that passage and show how it ties with the Gospel of Jesus–who came to bring liberty to the captives, give sight to the blind, preach good news to the poor, and proclaim the Year of the Lord's Favor. Let's begin this journey together.
When you comprehend the brevity of life and the seriousness of sin, your proper response is to seek the Lord's favor.
The 13th and final sermon in our series in Isaiah.
This bible study devotional covers Leviticus chapter 25. Here we learn about the Sabbatical year and the Year of Jubilee. These mega-Sabbath rest years were meant to be times of freedom, cancelation of debt, and fresh starts for the people of Israel and their land. As always, we are committed to showing you how Jesus fulfills these specific passages. In Leviticus 25, we see that Jesus brings the final and full Year of Jubilee, called the Year of the Lord's Favor, in this death, burial, and resurrection. For more information about Spoken Gospel visit: https://www.spokengospel.com We believe the only path to transformative Bible engagement is to see Jesus and his gospel wherever you are in the story. Jesus taught that he can be seen on every page of the Bible. Only by seeing the light of the Gospel in the face of Jesus can we be transformed into his image (2 Cor. 3:18, 4:6). We want to help people engage with every corner of the Bible in a transformative way. To that end, we are making Christ-centered, devotional podcasts that cover every chapter of the Bible. They are brief field guides through every passage of scripture that explain each chapter within its context and how it reveals more about the good news of Jesus. The Gospel changes things. Through our resources, we hope to create growing, deepening, and transforming Bible engagement that reshapes individuals, churches, and cultures with the Gospel. And we hope that you will join us in that mission.

Isaiah 61:1-9
The gifts have been opened, the egg nog has been drunk, the cookies have been eaten, and the relatives have returned home. But in the midst of all the festivities, did you catch the beauty and mystery of Christmas? Did you consider who that baby in the manger would be and what he would do? This Sunday we hear Jesus describe himself and his mission from Luke's Gospel.

This week, Frank continues our new series traveling through the book of Luke. This week, we open up the narrative in Luke 4 and find Jesus in the synagogue. As he proclaims His mission and the fulfillment of prophecy through this mission, He challenges each of us to take on that mission as His Church. We have Good News to share with others, do we give proper importance to our mission to proclaim His Gospel to our friends, neighbors, etc.?

Isaiah 61 is a Messianic passage about Christ written hundreds of years before Christ that was fulfilled by Christ. In Luke 4, Jesus read from Isaiah 61 when He taught at the synagogue in Nazareth and said that He was the fulfillment of that passage—declaring Himself to be the Messiah. The verses Jesus read speak about the mission of His ministry and how He desires to bring healing, freedom, forgiveness and salvation to all who would believe and receive Him. Pastor Gary connects Isaiah 61 and Luke 4 and shares how God takes broken, sinful people and brings beauty out of the ashes of our lives.

In the year of the Lord's Favor, Christ Jesus brings forgiveness of sins, which is the greater work. I. Seek Him II. Know Him III. Worship Him
Fingerprints mark an individual as unique. In the next section of Luke’s Gospel, he details for us the unique mission and passion of Jesus. We see he is the last Adam, the Anointed King, sent to bring good news to the poor, liberty to the captives, sight to the blind, freedom to the oppressed and God’s favor to the world. In this teaching you will learn that Jesus brings the year of the Lord's favor. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor." Luke 4:18-19(ESV)
