Michael Bluth is the owner of Open Sea Leather Co. A life-long artist, Michael was drowning in the study of Mandarin Chinese while serving as a foreign language analyst in the Navy. Overwhelmed by the intense coursework he sought refuge in creating beautiful leather goods for friends and family. Before he knew it he had created several unique minimalist wallet designs that people wanted to buy: a lot of people. Every wallet is still designed by Michael and made by artisans in Honolulu, Hawaii. Main Business Issues: Finding fulfillment in taking his business to the next level Michael's Key Insights and Takeaways: As a self identified artist turned entrepreneur, Michael found a lot of success turning his love of leather into a 7 figure business He was conflicted about the “fire” that it took to actually grow that beyond its current level and the lack of fulfillment the idea of it gave him Diving deeper we uncovered that this was a much deeper pattern of finding his sense of self worth in solving problems This was so deep rooted that it was a core part of his identity and how he couldn't really imagine who he would be without this Additionally, Michael was able to open up the door to the exploration that “solving” this problem was really going to come from finding more emotional peace around the issue Connect with Michael osleather.com, @opensealeather

Family is a concept that seems to show up a lot on our podcast. And whether it's found families, loving families, or in today's case, chaotic families, it seems to always play an important role in these kinds of shows. So today we brought along a special guest and family member to get a better understanding of the familial chaos that is Arrested Development and Modern Family. Arrested Development (05:35) - As the only capable member of his family, Michael Bluth is expecting a huge promotion to come his way at his family's company. But things go south when his father is arrested for some not-so-legal accounting. Now, Michael is left to pick up the pieces of his father's mistakes while his family learns to live life in the middle-class. Modern Family (34:14) - Time spent with extended family can be filled with fun and excitement. But it can also be filled with chaos. And when it comes to the extended Pritchett family, there's none more chaotic. Follow the lives of these three households while they deal with their somewhat extravagant everyday lives. Mormons, Navy Cryptology, and Leather, Oh My! What and episode this week where I have Michael Bluth; the owner and operator of Open Sea Leather Co. Mike is an 11-year Navy veteran who served as a Cryptologic Technician Interpretive. Mike grew up as a Mormon, and talks about his initial mission where he found a love for Spanish, ultimately leading him to be a linguist in the Navy. Mike served across several commands, having to master both Spanish and Chinese. We get into some of the off personalities you meet in the Navy, especially in the CT community (ever hear of furries!?) We also get in to what ultimately led to Mike separating from the Navy, which spoiler alert: typical Navy bullshit. As I mentioned, Mike owns and operates Open Sea Leather Co and we talk all about how he started the company, his goals and ambitions for the future, as well as where you can all grab the products! Is that the "Queen of Disco?" What are the ethics of asking out a member of your congregation? And did Urkel just invent an Anti-Super Soldier Serum? We sing our way through these questions and more as we watch Season 8, Episode 22 of Family Matters.Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. Arrested Development follows the story of Michael Bluth and his attempts to run the family real estate company. As Michael is the only level headed member of the family, hilarity ensues when Michael attempts to do anything to get his family out of the mess they put themselves in. In the pilot episode, we see everything go wrong for the Bluth family and Michael prepares to leave them behind for good to have a better life with his son. Arrested Development has been a long time favourite of ours, and if anything, suffered from being so far ahead of its time. Sometimes we forget to watch something. Everyone tells us about it, and we hear over and over how good it is. We honestly just plain forget, until we need something new to watch, because we're stuck inside the house like dummies. Then we start scrolling through and notice the one that we haven't watched. We watch it. Then one or two episodes in we start wondering why the crap are we just now watching this. That's the story behind this week's show. I'm late to it. I'm late to most everything in my life, so get over it. Better late than never, right? This week, one week before its season 3 release, we're discussing Ozark. Show Notes: [01:03] Ozark comes to us by way of Netflix. Watch it now and you can finish season 1 and 2 before season 3 releases next week. [01:20] You just need to know that this show is dark. It's dark, it's bloody, and it's dark. [01:33] How can anything with Jason Bateman be anything but fun and comical and a little bit nerdy? If that's what you're saying to yourself, you would be wrong. He's not Michael Bluth from Arrested Development. [02:36] This show is that good. You will be hooked. Jason Bateman is so good in this. Laura Linney plays his wife. She's so good too. [02:54] I think what makes these two actors so good in the series is that they both looked so normal. [03:12] I don't know how they deal with the stress in their lives. They have to launder $50 million and then $10 million will go missing, and they'll have to come up with the other $10 million in like 48 hours. I don't understand how their organs aren't shutting down. [03:43] You're not going to want to watch this when the kids, mother-in-law, or ladies group are around. But you are going to want to watch it. [04:01] Turn the subtitles on when Jacob Snell is on the screen. I was personally raised around rednecks, and I still can't figure out what he's saying half the time. [04:09] I'd give Ozark 4 Spanx. [04:21] I like my shows dark and heavy. If you're trying to decide between this and The Walking Dead. Try this. If you're trying to decide between Ozark and The Big British Bake Off, I doubt this one's for you. It's Christmas morning. Your eyes pop open. You throw your blanket to the side and run downstairs so fast your feet feel like they don't even touch the ground. The tree is all aglow. Your stocking is stuffed so full the seams are stretched. Under the tree are all kinds of gifts, wrapped in silver and gold. You gleefully grab the biggest one and rip the paper. You pull open the box and inside is the gift you've waited for all year. That's right, it's the 2019 Grave Plot Podcast Christmas episode! This year's selection kicks things off with a Real World Horror story about the mythical Mothman. He's overtaken Point Pleasant, now does he have his sights set on Chicago? In Horror Business, we discuss the new vampire/western movie coming to us courtesy of Glenn Danzig and starring one of the stars of Idle Hands. We also talk about a new Stephen King adaptation from Blumhouse, a Lovecraft film from the creators of "Game of Thrones," and more content coming to Quibi. We close things out with news on an upcoming thriller courtesy of Michael Bluth. For our film reviews, we've got some holly jolly horror for you with a couple of frightfully festive films. First up is the family-reunion-gone-wrong film I Trapped the Devil, about a man who has a hostage in his basement that may or may not be the Dark Lord. From there we go on to discuss the Christmas zombie musical known as Anna and the Apocalypse. It's a joyous holiday romp, filled with cheerful songs and hordes of undead hungry for human flesh. There are lots of things you could put on to enjoy your Christmas morning. Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Mariah Carey... We thank you for choosing The Grave Plot Podcast for your holiday listening. Merry Christmas, bitches!
As an actor, director and producer, Jason Bateman’s all-or-nothing commitment has propelled him to success on both the big and small screen, in comedy and drama, and on both sides of the camera. He was awarded a Golden Globe for his performance as Michael Bluth in “Arrested Development,” and he won a Screen Actors Guild award for his work playing Marty Byrde in “Ozark.” Bateman is also a four-time Emmy nominee. In this episode, he shares what fans can expect from the third season of “Ozark,” his profound sense of responsibility, and his obsessive love of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Level headed son Michael Bluth takes over family affairs after his father is imprisoned. But the rest of his spoiled, dysfunctional family are making his job unbearable.
It's a tale of two Netflix series, both starring Jason Bateman - one of which is in deep decline and likely about to end it's long run, and another of which is just getting started. Say goodbye to Arrested Development's Michael Bluth, and pray for Marty Byrde, who is forever just barely surviving the dangerous decisions he's made for himself and his family. There may always be money in the banana stand, but there are cartel members and crazy rednecks (or hillbillies!) in Ozark. Plus, uh - Kanye needs some help. You may have caught his very sad performance in the White House today - much like Trump and Jim Brown, I don't know what to make of it, but I am worried about him. Mental illness is no laughing matter, even though the transcript of his bizarre monologue is a little bit funny at moments. Mostly, I'm sad and concerned for the poor guy - but not as much as I am for Marty Byrde and his family, and for the cast of Arrested Development who apparently had a miserable time working with Jeffrey Tambor. I wish everyone, actors, musicians, politicians and fictional characters - it is getting hard to tell them apart from each other - only the best. This week, A+A join the gang for the Saints and Sinners Masquerade Party with Margaret McCuen AKA Katie McCuen (@katiemccuen) AKA Not-Tamar, our original wonderful guest for this episode. The trio tries to catch lightning in a bottle twice and fails to do so, recapping and rehashing an episode lost to the Podcast Gods forever. The result is unadulterated Aaron, a lot of swearing, and Andy doing his best to Michael Bluth the situation. Unfortunately, this is not Arrested Development. XOXO.
