Marketing budgets are increasing, and yet creative spend is decreasing. Clients want more creative for less. This podcast teaches you how to find those efficiencies, using working examples in the retail and B2B sector. My guest is Michael Veitch, ex-Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand and a seasoned digital master, whose new company OutcomePath helps companies across all sectors find their online MOJO. He explains why copying the competition can be one of the easiest mistakes to make; ignoring your organisation's DNA can become costly and is sometimes fatal. We examine what happened at The Body Shop and how disaster could have been avoided. Mike also has some wonderful advice for anyone looking to acquire and relaunch the retailer, as well as providing handy tips for measuring your company's online performance and making sure it matches the offline experience. ------------- Mike's LinkedIn profile here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mcveitch/ OutcomePath web site here: https://outcomepath.co.uk/ Learn more about your ad choices. I am a non-observant Jew. I'm actually an atheist who was raised in a secular Jewish home. My parents weren't religious either and, with three daughters and no sons, we had no Bar Mitzvahs and we were growing up at a time when Jewish girls weren't necessarily expected to be a Bat Mitzvah. So were weren't. But we did grow up knowing that we were of Jewish heritage. And although I don't know the stories of my ancestors, I do know that my father's family came here from Russia and Romania, and my mother's family came from Russia and Austria. They all left their homelands because of the Nazis and the Holocaust. We grew up knowing about the atrocities, with the directive to always remember so nothing like this could happen ever again. The annual Holocaust Remembrance Day was established back in the early 60s, yet I don't remember it being as prominent as it is this year before. Perhaps that's due to the rising incidents of antisemitism around the world, the rise of Neo Nazi groups here and abroad, the atrocities we're seeing in Ukraine at the hands of the Russian soldiers... or perhaps it's because the last remaining survivors of the Holocaust are aging rapidly, and their descendants want to insure the stories survive. Today, I'll feature two films that debut on PBS stations this week. First up, I'll talk with Steve Pina, producer of "The Holocaust: A Turning Point". If you're in Southern California, you can see it tonight (April 27) at 11pm PDT or tomorrow at 7pm PDT on KLCS. Anywhere else, you can see it posted on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0u6Hb8fdEU. Then, I'll talk with Michael Veitch. He's one of the songwriters who participated in a program that culminated in the film, "We Remember: Songs of Survivors". The singer/songwriters visited with Holocaust Survivors in Hudson Valley, NY to create original songs based on their conversations. It premiered on PBS last night and will run on 450 stations between now and May 24. Check your local listings.

On Backstory this week, Mel Cranenburgh is joined by author, Moreno Giovannoni, whose book The Fireflies of Autumn:And Other Tales of San Ginese explores tales of war and migration, feasts and misfortunes - of a people and their place over the course of the twentieth century in a Tuscan village. Moreno Giovannoni was born in San Ginese but grew up in a house on a hill, on a tobacco farm at Buffalo River in north-east Victoria. He is a freelance translator of long standing.https://www.blackincbooks.com.au/books/fireflies-autumnMel then speaks to Michael Veitch, performer, writer and broadcaster, about his latest work Hellship which documents the fate of the emigrant clipper Ticonderoga and its passengers. Shortly after crossing the equator, typhus had erupted throughout her decks, and in just a few weeks, one hundred of her mainly Highland Scots emigrants had perished, hastily buried at sea with what little ceremony could be afforded. Forbidden to enter Melbourne, the Ticonderoga was made to offload her human cargo onto a small beach inside the heads where, for the next six weeks, a makeshift quarantine hospital was established. Through the tireless efforts of the ship's young surgeon, Veitch's great-grandfather, aided by a handful of passengers, including a courageous young Scots woman from the Isle of Mull (his great-grandmother), many lives were saved. Hellship is a book, a play and has a soundtrack by Veitch's son, Thomas Veitch and Rose Hampton.https://www.hellshipticonderoga.com/

Rosebud Regional Lecture- Michael Veitch Tuesday 24 September 2013 Over the course of three years and two books, author, broadcaster and performer Michael Veitch sought out and interviewed over sixty former airmen of Second World War and recorded, largely for the first time, their stories of flying, combat and survival. As Michael soon discovered, every man who flew in combat in Second World War has at least one extraordinary story to tell. Stories such as that of Lancaster pilot Bruce Clifton, shot down after a navigational error led he and his crew astray over neutral Sweden. His aircraft exploded in a massive fireball and Bruce was blown mid-air but remained totally unharmed and parachuted to safety. Or Barney Barnett, Hurricane pilot pounced on by Japanese Zero fighters while on escort duty over Burma. Barney bailed out but was forced to elude the searching Japanese for days, hiding for his life amid the mangroves until a chance reunion with an outpost of the Indian army saved his life. Michael Veitch will be speaking about some of these remarkable men, their stories, and the privilege he felt at being the receptacle of such priceless information.
