The team rescues a civilian and servitor carrying vital intel from the crosshairs of a sniper, then helps secure the area. Things turn chaotic when the lights suddenly go out just as a horde of Poxwalkers shows up. Will it be lights-out permanently for Kroog, Flak, Lynane, and Bumper, or will they shine brightly like the flame of the emperor?
After taking shelter and awaiting their next orders, Kroog, Flak, Lynane, and Bumper are tasked with disarming mines to clear the way for tanks as they proceed to Delta 9. Explosions occur. Later, the team meets a suspicious man claiming to have disturbing news about the emperor.

Melvin Hurwirz was 16 years old when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Within just a few years, all four boys in his family were at war, each in a different branch of the service. After enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Hurwitz was assigned as a gunner and as a radio man for a B-17 bomber crew after an aptitude test showed his proficiency at Morse Code. His crew then had a bit of an adventure flying the bomber over to Great Britain. It was Spring 1945 by the time he saw his first bombing mission. In this edition of Veterans Chronicles, Hurwitz explains why he chose the Army Air Corps, what he was thinking as he went up on that first mission, and the amount of enemy resistance he faced in those final weeks of the war.Hurwitz also details his four bombing missions, particularly two aimed at German personnel still in France and how his was among the first planes ever to drop napalm in Europe. Hurwitz also tells us about bringing desperately-needed humanitarian aid to Belgium and the Netherlands at the end of the war and bringing French POW's back from Germany.
The Zoom call dust-up between state Senator Elena Parent and the mother of a trans child continues to catch the attention of local media and the political consultant class; the latest to chime in being the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Bill Torpy, who zeroed in on an angle: that Parent is one of four Democrats who voted for a GOP-led bill (four others skipped the vote altogether) to limit taxpayer-funded gender-affirming care for trans convicts while in prison, and of those four, (eight if you include the four who didn't vote) Parent is the only one who's white. Torpy also noted that the backlash Parent is enduring on her social media is also coming from angry white constituents (assuming they're all her constituents. This all gets back to points I made last week: this aggression solves nothing, nor would Parent's vote have, were it to have gone the other way. We keep doing this to ourselves, on the left. "Incremental" isn't a sexy term, particularly when invoked in politics, but "ideological purity" is the enemy not just of "progress, but eveen just "incrementalism," too. Hell, I got a testy email over it. Not to foster a conversation or enlighten (plenty of opportunity to win hearts and minds with personal stories) but more to manifest division (and derision, but I'm a big boy; I can handle it). - - - - - - - - As damaging as Kamala Harris' campaign having no answers for the barrage of 'anti-trans' attack ads that lead some Democrats now to be more calculating with their support, so, too, was the perceived 'gaslighting' by the Biden White House (and re-election campaign) about Joe Biden's ageand mental fitness. At least that's what an aide to the First Lady became the first to say publicly from within that White House staff. Infuriating to hear, but unsurprising, too.

Surely it is possible to eulogize a cultural icon with some measure of accuracy? Like many of you, I read the many tributes to the Roberta Flack and her unworldly talent last week and was troubled by how many of them (perhaps byproducts of A.I. or non-extant copy editing) credited her with the innovation of the flak jacket, as popularized by Houston's Dan Pastorini. In fact, the flak jacket was invented by the late Byron Donzis (above), a lifelong Roberta Flack fan who tried to license her surname for the product and upon failure to come to an agreement, had to opt for the alternate “f-l-a-k” spelling. I mean, you can look all of this stuff up, I don't see why I always have to be the one to explain this stuff, particularly as I'm already busy enough programming the greatest radio program of all time. For the record, this week's inclusion of Flack Blag was not intended as a tribute to Roberta Flack. It's a (very) unfortunate coincidence.

Many of us have been told for most of our lives that fluoride is greatly beneficial to our health. So how did we get from fluoride in the public water supply being one of history's great public health achievements to it standing trial in the court of public opinion? We invite Drs. A major if not the most important key to victory in World War 2 Europe was the Allied Bombing Campaign against Nazi Germany. World War 2 wasn't just a collections of campaigns fought in different theaters but also campaigns specific to the land, sea, and air. After WW1 introduced the concept of air power, the end of the conflict saw every country invest into this new frontier of war to varying degrees. Pre-WW2 saw most major powers developing bomber aircraft to extend their projection of power and hit the enemy far behind their lines, and fighter aircraft to shoot down the bombers. WW2 in Europe saw the first occurrences of terror and strategic bombing. Hundreds of planes dropping thousands of tons of explosive on cities in a single day attempting to destroy enemy resources and moral. To be a bomber pilot or crew you had to have smarts, skills, and frankly balls because you had a 50% chance of being killed when this was said and done. These men (some in their teens) in their Boeing Flying Fortresses and Avro Lancasters kept the allies in the war until it could be won on the ground. Almost a full 5 years before the allies set foot in France, the bomber aircrews of the British Bomber Command and soon after the U.S. Air Force flew missions over France and Germany to keep the pressure on the Nazis and prevent them from solidifying their hold. Flying miles above occupied Europe without fighters to protect them, the bomber crews of the allies were constantly under attack by enemy explosive shells (Flak) from the ground or the deadly Germany fighters strafing them at double their speed. Okay I'm rambling, sorry I love this shit and I hope you will too, hit play already.Prof Chris.Support the show

Vincent "Bill" Purple joined the U.S. Army Air Corps following the Japense attack on Pearl Harbor. Like most young men interested in joining the Air Corps, he wanted to be a fighter pilot. But the Army had different plans. Soon Purple was training on multi-engine planes in preparation for being a B-17 Bomber pilot. He was deployed to England as part of the 379th bomb group inside the Mighty Eighth Air Force and flew 35 missions. In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," Purple takes us along on a typical mission - from briefing to takeoff to dropping the bombs on Nazi targets in France and Germany. He also explains what it was like flying through intense enemy anti-aircraft fire, also known as flak.Mr. Purple also gives us great detail on several of his most harrowing missions, including the time his engine caught fire and he thought he would be "blown out of the sky" to taking off in heavy fog with no visibility, to being struck in the chest with shrapnel as he flew.
During WWII one plane survived more missions than any other in Europe. Named 'Flak-Bait,' this medium bomber was saved from the scrap heap after the war and immediately donated to the Smithsonian. However, public display and outdated restoration techniques have taken a toll on the plane. We're taking you inside our restoration hanger to learn all about how the Museum's conservators are reversing damage and conserving Flak-Bait so visitors can learn about her contributions for many years to come. Thanks to our guests in this episode: Lauren Horelick - Object Conservator, National Air and Space Museum. Jule, you got this! Und euch allen wünschen wir natürlich viel Spaß dabei!

The gap at the top of the Bundesliga is back to a slim two points! Results on Match Day 19 led us there, as did FC Bayern München's win over 1. FC Union Berlin - three points the Bavarians had to wait about two months to pick up. Speaking of two months, that's going to seem like the blink of an eye compared to the drawn-out saga we're going to get regarding who'll be Jürgen Klopp's successor at Liverpool, so Bayer 04 Leverkusen fans need to be ready to strap in. Matt, Nik and Terry take all this in along with Nenad Bjelica's future at Union, Jadon Sancho's return to playing like himself, Werder Bremen's resurgence and more. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/talking-fussball/support

He and a friend hatched a plan to join the service in Canada until Lucky's father refused to allow it. But his friend went through with it. Uncle Si can't help but laugh with Martin and Jay as they do impressions of him and his bathroom noises. Willie pulls one of his most famous pranks on Si at the airport, and Jay Stone gets reluctantly tasked with entertaining California yuppies with “redneck stuff.” John-David is forced to have a difficult conversation with his son after Stone picks him up on the side of the road in their neighborhood. Jase returns from New York City with tales of the praise and abuse directed at him during his visit. The guys discuss further the meaning of the “blessings and woes” and how they are applied to real life scenarios. Jase deconstructs a recent sermon he gave to a rowdy bunch of Christians at his home church, which details the need for humility over pride in our walk with Jesus. Phil ponders the only thing worth waiting one thousand years for, and Zach drops a brain-twisting concept about the restorative nature of Heaven.
