Episode 303 China is becoming a de facto leader in the fight against climate change. Right now it's the world's biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, but after years of keeping its emissions steady, they have finally begun to fall. And this is all while China's power demands have increased - suggesting its efforts to build clean energy are paying off. But is this enough to make a realistic dent on curbing global warming? And how will the uncertainty of President Trump's administration impact this trend? A vaccine for the dreaded norovirus is in the works - and it's already proving effective. Known as the winter vomiting bug, this nasty gastrointestinal illness affects 685 million people a year. Thanks to a company in San Francisco and some heroic people who served as test subjects, we may be closer than ever to staving it off. At some point, in a few billion years, our solar system may break up in the most spectacular fashion, simply because of random chaos and instability. But now researchers have found a bigger threat to the survival of our solar system - passing stars. Less random and chaotic, stars actually pass by our sun fairly regularly, and could dislodge planets like Pluto, flinging them out of orbit and impacting the other planets. Do you find yourself teary eyed when cutting onions? Well, you're in luck. Scientists have found the perfect way to cut an onion without crying. We provide a live demonstration for your amusement. Picture this, a tiny, 30 nm, relentless RNA virus named norovirus slips into your life, uninvited, and turns your gut into a battlefield. It's not the flu. Forget that “stomach flu” misnomer. It's a Caliciviridae family member, a nonenveloped, single-stranded RNA ninja that thrives in making chaos. As a pediatrician, I've seen it wreak havoc in kids and parents alike, and it's a master of surprise. It just played Risk in my GI tract last week. Not Fun! Let's unpack how it infects, spreads, and toys with us humans, straight from the AAP's Red Book (2024) and other research. Norovirus causes an estimated 1 in 15 US residents to become ill each year as well as 71,000 hospitalizations and 800 deaths annually, predominantly among young children and the elderly. Norovirus doesn't knock, more so it sneaks in, needing under 100 viral particles to ignite trouble. You're sipping contaminated water, munching an oyster from a shady bay, or your toddler's unwashed hands after a playdate deliver the payload. It's mostly fecal-oral, stool to mouth via food, water, or surfaces. But don't sleep on aerosolized vomit. One hurl in a crowded daycare, and airborne particles linger, landing on toys, doorknobs, you name it for days. Did I say lingering! Smart viral spread! Gorilla warfare is on! Dr. M
This week, I got medical attention to flush the Norovirus out of me so I could see Kylie Minogue at MSG (priorities!!). Plus, John and I broke down "The White Lotus" finale (may have gotten distracted during the best monologue, however) and the Beverly Hills reunion.Later, I spent some time shopping and browsing a bookstore with John Mayer and introduced Ben to Star Wars, which both warmed my lil heart. Then, I had dinner with my old pal Ricki Lake, saw the new Nick Jonas musical, and did final preparations for my Disney trip next week! For more interviews and behind-the-scenes tea, tune in to Andy Cohen Live weekdays on Radio Andy by subscribing to SiriusXM. Your Faith Journey - Finding God Through Words, Song and Praise
Sermon 4/6/2025 – Jn 12:1-8 The prophet Isaiah brings us words from our Lord God: “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” This is a beautiful reminder that God will surprise us God makes a way for us God brings out an army of fighters for us God nourishes and replenishes us Whatever we face, God is there, navigating beside us The arc of the Gospels from Luke these past weeks have been building the tension toward Jesus' arrest and crucifixion We can feel the tension within the community The Pharisees are threatening Herod's wish to kill Jesus They're grumbling about what Jesus is doing and who he's hanging out with (all the wrong people) And Jesus is responding with outrageous parables about how God isn't going to fall in line with human expectations God is extravagant in God's love for God's people God will protect God's people like a fierce mother hen God will nourish the fig tree until it bears fruit God will welcome the wayward son with open arms and celebration “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” In the midst of anxiety With the threat of death Burdened with tension God is there God is about to do a new thing Can we perceive it? Can we? Because fear Anxiety Tension The energy of these emotions act like walls Huge barriers to God's love Barriers that make God's love, mercy, tenderness and forgiveness sit on the outside of our hearts --- One thing we know about anxiety and tension – Is that they spread They are more contagious than Norovirus or Influenza A As they travel among people and communities So today, we hear the words of the prophet Isaiah and the Gospel story about Jesus in a safe place, the home of his friends His chosen family – Lazarus who he raised from the dead, and Martha and Mary These people who are close to Jesus have been shown the nature of God through the person of Jesus They have been shown God's extravagant love again and again Through parables And miracles Through Jesus raising Lazarus from death But the tension from the community is there, It's seeped in It has spread into their home Into their hearts and minds as Mary does a new and extravagant thing We read these stories year after year We know that Judas is the “bad guy”, who will betray Jesus to the soldiers leading to his imprisonment and crucifixion But having a woman act as the “good guy” is surprising It would have been even more surprising then than it is now For Mary to demonstrate God's abundance For Mary to break cultural expectations Challenging gender roles As she takes her hair down Uses an entire pound of perfumed oil And wipes Jesus' feet But Mary's role isn't the only surprising role in this story We see the human side of Jesus, the fierce advocate, the strong defender, the wise teacher, the righteous Son of God, As he sits and acknowledges his need of tenderness His need of support His weariness from these past months As Mary cares for him Wiping the tension out of his whole body through his feet “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” We acknowledge the intimacy of this act on Maundy Thursday when Jesus washes the feet of his disciples Imagine the intimacy of Mary wiping Jesus' feet with her hair and expensive perfume… Imagine how close she would have to sit to Jesus… Imagine her face, and her gaze upon him… Imagine the smell of the perfume, an entire pound of it, filling her nostrils and wafting up to Jesus' face, filling his nose The lovely fragrance spreading…permeating the entire room Lingering… Imagine his gaze upon her… As Jesus sits around the dinner table, surrounded by others, and Mary touches his feet for the first time… Imagine Jesus' surprise as she continues ministering to him until the entire jar is gone… “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” Now imagine God caring for you in that extravagant and tender way Imagine God knowing all you've done And not done All you've endured And all you're facing in life Imagine God bringing God's self so close to you So close, just a hair's length away Close to even the dirtiest and sorest parts of yourself Not just the parts you'd offer first But even the embarrassing and hurt parts The parts you keep tucked away and covered Imagine God coming so close to those parts And blessing them Wiping them Loving them Anointing your past, present and future With a beautiful and unexpected fragrance That takes over your whole self That fills the whole room That is obnoxious in a way that even others notice “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” / / / / We are so often like Judas Keeping track Judging Anxious As the tension of our community and world Spread and infect our spaces Our school and work Our congregation Our homes Even our thoughts and hearts Which is why this season of Lent is all about repentance Turning back toward God Taking a chance to let down the walls and barriers The hardness this world has erected within us And let God in Let God sit so close to us Let God let down God's hair Let God use the whole jar And reach our most unpresentable parts Let God tenderly touch those parts of us Let God wipe them clean, Let God bless them, and anoint them with God's extravagant and Holy love Amen

Food safety isn't just about what's on the plate—it's about protecting everyone who gathers to share a meal. This week on Eating at a Meeting Podcast LIVE, join me as I chat with food safety expert Francine Shaw, CP-FS, FMP, about one of the most contagious viruses threatening events today: norovirus. Francine's expertise spans the globe, with projects from Peru to Dubai. She's worked with household names like Target, Marriott, and McDonald's. From keynote stages to consulting with public health departments, Francine, founder and CEO of Savvy Food Safety, Inc., co-creator and co-host of Don't Eat POOP! A Food Safety Podcast, and author of “Who Watches the Kitchen,” has made it her mission to champion food safety in every corner of the industry. With norovirus outbreaks on the rise, especially during the busy event season, it's a crucial topic for meeting planners. Did you know that norovirus spreads easily through contaminated food, surfaces, and direct contact? Unlike COVID-19, hand sanitizer alone won't cut it, so proper food safety protocols and cleaning measures are essential. In this episode, we'll discuss: How norovirus spreads and why it's so persistent. ➤ Practical strategies for venues and planners to reduce risk—from the kitchen to the buffet line. ➤ The key questions you need to ask your catering and venue partners to ensure safe practices. ➤ Steps you can take to safeguard attendees and staff, including cleaning high-touch surfaces and promoting thorough handwashing. Whether planning a corporate conference or a community gathering, this conversation will equip you with the tools to prioritize health, safety, and trust in your food and beverage experiences. Make food safety the backbone of every event, not an afterthought.
Hey, friends! It's your favorite delusionally young optimist, Debbie Nigro, back with another Wellness Wednesday where we keep the "live" in alive! If you missed the show, here's a rapid-fire rundown of what we talked about—because, let's be honest, I covered a lot. Buckle up! 1. Do We Age in Bursts? Apparently, OMG Yes! Scientists have confirmed what we already suspected—one day, you wake up and bam, you've aged five years overnight. Studies show major aging jumps around age 44 and 60 (so if you're near one of those, hydrate and brace yourself). Researchers analyzed DNA, proteins, and other molecular markers to prove that aging isn't a slow, gradual process—it's like nature's version of a surprise party, but instead of balloons, you get wrinkles. 2. Your Heart is Aging, But Science is Catching Up! Heart disease is still the #1 cause of death, but treatments are better than ever. The heart actually stiffens as we age—apparently, moisturizer won't fix this one. New cardiology advancements are helping older patients live longer, healthier lives—yay for progress! 3. Ping Pong Could Help Parkinson's Patients—And It's Pretty Cool A man with Parkinson's found that playing ping pong helped him regain movement—and now thousands of patients worldwide are following suit. New York City even has a dedicated Ping Pong for Parkinson's program (and I was ahead of the curve on this story, thank you very much). Bonus: Ping pong is fun, so even if you don't have Parkinson's, grab a paddle and get moving! 4. Measles Outbreaks—Yep, They're Back (Ugh) Measles was eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, but now cases are popping up in Texas, New Mexico, and even New York. Pregnant women and young kids are especially at risk, so let's stay informed and proactive. This is your friendly reminder to double-check your vaccination records (if you can actually find them). 5. Pheromones, Love Chemicals, and the $100 Attraction Boost Did you know you can buy pheromone perfume additives to increase your attraction factor? Dr. Winifred Cutler discovered human pheromones in 1986, bottled them up, and now you can buy them for $100 a pop. Do we really need them, or do we just need to get out more? Hmm… 6. Collagen Loading—The Fountain of Youth? I've been doubling up on collagen, and I swear I feel the difference. It helps joints, skin, hair, and nails, but you have to stick with it for at least three months to see real results. If you're impatient, "collagen loading" (taking a double dose for the first month) can help speed things up. 7. Strawberries & the Norovirus—Wash Those Berries, People! The FDA is warning that strawberries might carry norovirus—yes, the one that makes you wish you never ate again. How to avoid getting sick? Wash them thoroughly under running water (yes, even the pre-washed ones). A vinegar soak (3 parts water, 1 part vinegar) can also help cut down on germs. 8. Spring Break Travel Warnings—Stay Safe, Folks! Some Caribbean destinations now have heightened safety alerts from the U.S. State Department. If you're traveling, stick with your friends and avoid risky situations (especially late at night). A tragic story about a missing college student in the Dominican Republic is a sobering reminder to stay vigilant. 9. Ozempic & Mounjaro—More Than Just Weight Loss? New research suggests these popular weight-loss drugs may reduce inflammation in the brain, potentially helping Parkinson's and Alzheimer's patients. But there's a catch—stop taking them, and your body might go right back to square one. 10. Where Can You Breathe the Cleanest Air? Only seven countries met the World Health Organization's air quality standards in 2024. If you want fresh air, head to Australia, New Zealand, The Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Estonia, or Iceland. The U.S.? Not on the list. (Might need to rethink those travel plans.) Final Thought: The Key to Longevity is... LIVING! Inspired by Arianna Huffington's latest piece, I want to remind you—longevity is great, but don't get so caught up in living long that you forget to live well. Focus on joy, love, and purpose—not just extending your years, but making those year's worth it. Oh, and if someone texts you the word ‘slay', make sure you know that means you've done an exceptionally good job (thank you, Gen Z, for keeping me on my toes). So, if you ask me I think I've pretty much ‘slayed' this week's Wellness Wednesday Report! Remember, we're all just trying to keep the live in alive—so let's do it with energy, laughter, and maybe a little collagen. It's been going around and half of the show has already dealt with it. Let's learn some more.
In today's video, I'm discussing how we can prevent or minimize the unwanted symptoms of norovirus. First, it's important to recognize that norovirus relies on oxidative stress-induced cell damage to spread and replicate in the body. So anything we can do to decrease oxidative stress by improving the antioxidant status of our cells decreases the opportunity for viral activity in our body. Norovirus also attacks and damages the intestinal lining, which is why vomiting and diarrhea are often a large part of the symptom picture. Making sure our gut health is on point is high value. Nutrient Support⬇️ Support gut health integrity and cellular antioxidant status by using probiotics like lactobacillus and bifidobacterium species as well as one of my favorites, N-acetyl Cysteine or NAC. NAC increases our master antioxidant glutathione to reduce cell damage and promote a hostile environment for norovirus. Vitamin C and selenium can also help in a similar fashion to NAC. Plus I share how to properly hydrate if you are vomiting, why I use a throat spray, and how acid blockers (proton pump inhibitor and H2 blockers) can increase susceptibility to a norovirus infection. ➡️Healthy Meals Made Easy PDF https://go.drwholeness.com/healthy-meals-made-easy -------- Connect with Dr. Matt online:

Norovirus—often called the perfect pathogen—is one of the leading causes of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks worldwide. Responsible for widespread illness across all age groups, it remains a major cause of childhood and endemic infections. Originally described as winter vomiting disease due to its seasonal surges, norovirus is infamous for its rapid spread, low infectious dose, and resistance to disinfection. In this episode of Transmissible: A Public Health Podcast, host and scientist Jessica Stahl breaks down what makes norovirus so uniquely contagious, how it wreaks havoc on cruise ships, in schools, and in prisons, and why it continues to be a persistent public health challenge.Citations and additional reading:Norovirus | Norovirus | CDCNorovirus (vomiting bug) - NHShttps://academic.oup.com/jid/article-abstract/205/11/1622/844989?redirectedFrom=fulltext Norovirus Disease in the United States - PMCEID_9-13_NorovirusInTheUnitedStates.pdfNorovirus: Facts and Reflections from Past, Present, and Future - PMCLegal Disclaimer: The information provided in Transmissible: A Public Health Podcast is for informational and educational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice. We watched a lot of bad football this season in the NFL. There were a lot of really bad teams. Betting and fantasy keep us interested in teams and games that are terrible. The poor level of play even spilled into Wild Card weekend. There are a lot of things that contribute to ‘crappier football'. Boomer thinks they're adding another game and teams will have 2 bye weeks and Netflix will be in the mix for the regular season. We then wondered if CBS Sports Network would cut away if one of us was choking on the air. Aly, our makeup artist, has Norovirus and Gio's concerned he is now going to get it. A caller wonders what we thought of the saxophone-only national anthem at the Eagles game. We talked about violinist Itzhak Perlman. Al has a very strange way of saying his name. Jerry returns for an update and starts with audio from BT and Sal about what BT wore when he interviewed Rick Pitino. BT was then called ‘gullible' by Sal and Pete Hoffman. Melissa Start and Cris Collinsworth were talking about the cut on Jayden Daniels' face. Rex Ryan said the Chargers had a bye week having to play the Texans and DeMeco Ryans referenced it after the game. Joe Mixon referenced it when he was smoking cigars after the game. In the final segment of the hour, this is a big game for Sam Darnold's career and wallet.
Hour 1 Wild Card weekend is over and there were a lot of disappointing games. The most disappointing performance from an individual was Justin Herbert and the Steelers were the most disappointing team performance. The Steelers looked ‘leader-less' according to Boomer. The Ravens/Bills is going to be a great matchup of 2 MVP candidates in their prime. In the Packers/Eagles game, cameras caught AJ Brown reading a motivational book while sitting on the bench. That was him sending a message that they were barely using him. He had one catch for 10 yards. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Commanders beating the Bucs. We heard the Baker Mayfield fumble and the game winning FG. AJ Brown talked about the book he was reading on the sideline. Jordan Love was asked about his struggles, including 3 INTs. Josh Allen had an incredible TD throw on 4th and one. Mike Tomlin talked about the Steelers performance. In the final segment of the hour, the Jets interviewed the Maryland head coach and Boomer had no idea that was happening and doesn't think it's a realistic choice for the Jets. The Jets seem to be waiting for someone still coaching in the playoffs. We talked about the Rooney Rule and whether it works or not. Hour 2 We talked briefly about colleges and universities having a ton of money to pay athletes and yet they are still looking for alumni to donate. Boomer got a letter from Maryland looking for money. We talked about the draft and Boomer doesn't think Shedeur Sanders will agree to go to the Titans or the Browns. That would set him up to be drafted by the Giants to play with Malik Nabers. The dream scenario for Deion would be for him to coach the Raiders and for them to draft Shedeur. There are reports Tom Brady really wants Ben Johnson for the Raiders, but there is no QB there right now. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Bucs radio as the Commanders kick the game winning FG. Baker Mayfield had a terrible fumble and Todd Bowles was asked about it. The Eagles beat the Packers but it wasn't pretty and Saquon talked about that. Jalen Hurts was asked about AJ Brown reading a book on the sideline. Boomer wonders how we each ‘find our flow'. George Pickens was asked after the Steelers' loss if he's optimistic going forward and he said, ‘uh, nah'. Kevin O'Connell is preparing to play as if they're playing in Los Angeles. The Patriots hired Mike Vrabel. In the final segment of the hour, former Ranger Sean Avery told the story of playing in a men's hockey league and having to knock a guy off his skates after he was bragging about his fourth goal of the game. He was banned from men's hockey in the state of California. We talked about traffic now that congestion pricing has been put into place. Boomer said businesses seem to be hurting because of it. Hour 3 We watched a lot of bad football this season in the NFL. There were a lot of really bad teams. Betting and fantasy keep us interested in teams and games that are terrible. The poor level of play even spilled into Wild Card weekend. There are a lot of things that contribute to ‘crappier football'. Boomer was busy texting us all a bunch of Instagram reels. Gio was learning about black holes yesterday and Boomer said there is no way he will ever be in one so not to worry about it. An old man caller said he's trying to sell his Giants season tix which he's had for 65 years. He watched old guys play like Frank Gifford. We talked about the Giants lack of quarterback play for a couple years now and are not expecting much for next season. Gio is liking Kyler Murray these days and would be interested in him as a QB for a team that is not drafting a QB. He's a quality ‘scrap heap guy'. Boomer said because of his contract it is going to be costly for a team. Boomer is looking for some ‘change of scenery guys'. Jerry returns for an update and starts with audio of Jason Whitlock talking about Joy Taylor and the lawsuit involving Fox Sports. He talked about her ‘big rack' and that ‘peanut butter skin'. Shannon Sharpe said to stop mentioning him in the lawsuit as he is not mentioned at all. John Mara was asked about the future of the Giants by Bruce Beck. Gio debuts his angry John Mara impression and it's pretty good. 71 year old Hulk Hogan was booed last night on WWE Raw. In the final segment of the hour, there's an old pizza with mushrooms in the WFAN newsroom and it looks disgusting. Boomer said that's how you get Norovirus.
Hour 1 Today is the day Rex Ryan gets his interview with the Jets. Rex and Brian Flores are the only decent candidates for the Jets. Gio would prefer the ‘next Rex' over the old Rex. Gio said no other team would even ‘sniff' Rex Ryan. Why isn't Jon Gruden on anybody's list? Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with John Mara saying, ‘we stunk this year'. Joe Schoen was asked if he talked to Shedeur Sanders. Jeff Ulbrich gushed about the Jets players and the locker room. Rex Ryan was on ESPN radio and said he's getting the Jets job because, ‘I'm the best guy and it isn't close'. Robert Kraft took responsibility for Jerod Mayo's lack of success. Jerry Jones was an actor on a TV show called ‘Landman' and Jerry has some clips. He sounded really genuine. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer said Sam Darnold had a hard time handling the blitzes against the Lions. He probably lost some confidence and looked flustered, so the Rams will probably try to do the same thing. Hour 2 Boomer was busy texting us all a bunch of Instagram reels. Gio was learning about black holes yesterday and Boomer said there is no way he will ever be in one so not to worry about it. Hour 3 Rex Ryan is getting his interview with the Jets today. Gio would be interested in Rex if he can find the right guy to run the offense. Gio would prefer the 2025 Rex over the actual Rex. Boomer said Rex is the ‘Donald Trump of coaches'. Gio wonders if Jets fans would prefer Rex or Aaron Glenn. Jerry returns for an update, but first, Eddie sent us a pic of him in Wyoming where he is observing the wolves. Jerry starts with audio from Giants players talking about the season and with Schoen and Daboll coming back. John Mara talked about quarterback being their number one issue. Mara does not seem confident even though he's keeping those guys. Jeff Ulbrich seems impressed by the Jets young talent. Rex Ryan talked about how he would handle Aaron Rodgers as opposed to the way the Jets handled him this year. Deshaun Watson had a setback and Boomer doesn't think we'll ever see him in a Browns uniform again. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about how congestion pricing is going so far after two days. Hour 4 Rob Saleh should have been a huge success with the Jets. But we had an offensive coordinator who never did it before and a rookie quarterback with Zach Wilson. We put out a poll as to who you want as Jets head coach if you only had these options: Rex, Brian Flores, Aaron Glenn or Jon Gruden. Boomer said if Rex comes here, he will be the story and Rodgers could just be the quarterback and not the spokesperson. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with Sauce Gardner wanting to be a part of the change in the Jets organization. Davante Adams talks about the importance of the coach the Je ...

Another scary word was contrived by the medical establishment recently: QUADEMIC. The viral interference is of some concern because the CDC reports that COVID-19, RSV, Norovirus, and the Flu could ruin your New Year. While many diseases have the potential of killing you, labeling something like “Quademic” raises a lot of red flags, mainly because it's being politically weaponized by global health scientist, Peter Hotez, who threatened the Trump administration by saying that on the day after his inauguration, he will have to deal with several pandemics all at once. Moreover, why is the complicit mainstream media bombarding us with absurdities, self-contradictions, and victim-shaming memes in their propaganda war, thus, keeping the American public in a constant state of panic? Tonight on Ground Zero (7-10 pm, pacific time), Clyde Lewis talks about QUADEMIC - CHICKEN NOODLE FLU. Listen Live: https://groundzero.radio Archived Shows: https://aftermath.media
