“Is vomiting worse than losing control of your body during… well, anything?” That's the hilarious question that kicks off the Weekday Update, and it only gets crazier from there. Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive into the winter vomiting disease (aka norovirus) with stories so vivid you'll clutch your stomach—and not just from laughter. KT warns about the CDC's alarming stats, and recalls last year's exorcist-style sickness, and Ben wonders if immunity is just wishful thinking.

Chris opens the hour with heartbreaking news: former Lakers great Elden Campbell has died at 57, and Full House star Dave Coulier is facing a new cancer battle just months after beating stage-3 lymphoma. Then — a brighter moment — the triumphant return of Foosh at last night’s event. From there, the conversation shifts to a stunning new survey: 84% of American teens say the news media is biased, boring, fake, or flat-out confusing, with fewer than one in three trusting journalists to fact-check or dig for truth. Chris breaks down what this generational media distrust means for the future. Next: the Trump administration’s “no tax on tips” plan has turned into a regulatory circus. The IRS is now forced to decide what counts as a tip… and what counts as pornography. Sex workers, creators, and tax experts warn the vague rule opens the door to discrimination and wildly subjective audits. Finally, a health warning: Norovirus cases are exploding early, doubling nationwide and already hitting winter-surge levels. Chris covers what to watch for — and why this year’s outbreak could be especially rough for kids and older adults.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When people ask about getting sick on a cruise ship, they're often worried about norovirus. But what happens if you catch a nasty cold, sprain your ankle, or (even worse) have a serious medical emergency like a heart attack? Rest assured, because cruise ships are well prepared. Are there doctors on cruise ships? Of course! Cruise ships will always have at least one doctor along with a staff of nurses. Larger ships will have more personnel with larger infirmaries. What kind of medications do they have? If you you're looking for aspirin, seasickness meds or other basic over-the-counter meds, you probably can skip the a trip the infirmary and just buy them at the ship's store. If you need prescription meds, medical facilities on cruise ships will have drugs on hand to treat infectious diseases like the flu and norovirus, problems with of the eyes, ear, nose and throat, and a variety of gastrointestinal and respiratory issues.

Episode 303 China is becoming a de facto leader in the fight against climate change. Right now it's the world's biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, but after years of keeping its emissions steady, they have finally begun to fall. And this is all while China's power demands have increased - suggesting its efforts to build clean energy are paying off. But is this enough to make a realistic dent on curbing global warming? And how will the uncertainty of President Trump's administration impact this trend? A vaccine for the dreaded norovirus is in the works - and it's already proving effective. Known as the winter vomiting bug, this nasty gastrointestinal illness affects 685 million people a year. Thanks to a company in San Francisco and some heroic people who served as test subjects, we may be closer than ever to staving it off. At some point, in a few billion years, our solar system may break up in the most spectacular fashion, simply because of random chaos and instability. But now researchers have found a bigger threat to the survival of our solar system - passing stars. Less random and chaotic, stars actually pass by our sun fairly regularly, and could dislodge planets like Pluto, flinging them out of orbit and impacting the other planets. Do you find yourself teary eyed when cutting onions? Well, you're in luck. Scientists have found the perfect way to cut an onion without crying. We provide a live demonstration for your amusement. Picture this, a tiny, 30 nm, relentless RNA virus named norovirus slips into your life, uninvited, and turns your gut into a battlefield. It's not the flu. Forget that “stomach flu” misnomer. It's a Caliciviridae family member, a nonenveloped, single-stranded RNA ninja that thrives in making chaos. As a pediatrician, I've seen it wreak havoc in kids and parents alike, and it's a master of surprise. It just played Risk in my GI tract last week. Not Fun! Let's unpack how it infects, spreads, and toys with us humans, straight from the AAP's Red Book (2024) and other research. Norovirus causes an estimated 1 in 15 US residents to become ill each year as well as 71,000 hospitalizations and 800 deaths annually, predominantly among young children and the elderly. Norovirus doesn't knock, more so it sneaks in, needing under 100 viral particles to ignite trouble. You're sipping contaminated water, munching an oyster from a shady bay, or your toddler's unwashed hands after a playdate deliver the payload. It's mostly fecal-oral, stool to mouth via food, water, or surfaces. But don't sleep on aerosolized vomit. One hurl in a crowded daycare, and airborne particles linger, landing on toys, doorknobs, you name it for days. Did I say lingering! Smart viral spread! Gorilla warfare is on! Dr. M
