“Trauma” means many things to many people. Mytrae Meliana is innately familiar with its myriad implications, having endured an indescribably abusive marriage, being subject to exile and house arrest in India by her own parents, and fighting against cultural and societal patriarchy to find her own voice. She captured her harrowing, and ultimately redemptive story in a memoir entitled Brown Skin Girl: An Indian American Woman's Magical Journey from Broken to Beautiful. Nikhil and Shelly spoke with Mytrae about her incredible story, which provides hope to many South Asian women who feel they are suffering in silence. She exudes light, wisdom, and quiet power in recounting her tale of triumph and healing, which now finds her as a holistic psychotherapist, trauma specialist, women's empowerment and Divine Feminine teacher, channel, award-winning author, musician, sound healer, and speaker in Portland, Oregon. Mytrae's story starts as a young adult in the U.S. in the 90's; an Indian graduate student in love with an American man. But her family's expectations catch up to her, and she quickly finds herself forced to give up her dreams, trapped in her family's home under house arrest and enduring abuse. Separated from the world she knew, she finds a way to carve a new path for herself. Now a psychotherapist, author, and healer, Mytrae shares her story. She expounds on life with a narcissistic parent and how it can affect family dynamics. Outlining her journey through multiple abusive situations, she talks about finding strength to identify and leave those situations to find her own path. Perhaps most remarkable, she shares her journey healing trauma through the metaphysical. And at the end of it all, she shared how she was able to find forgiveness from the heart. Mytrae Meliana is a Women's Empowerment and Spiritual Teacher, a Holistic Psychotherapist, Trauma Expert, speaker and author. She leads workshops and programs for women that empower them to heal from trauma, liberate themselves from patriarchy, and connect with the divine feminine so that they can live true, bold, inspired lives. Mytrae is also the founder of Temple of Sound Healing, which teaches Sound Healing to Health and Wellness Practitioners and Social Justice Community Leaders. An immigrant from India, Mytrae shares her story of healing, empowerment, and awakening in her memoir: “Brown Skin Girl: An Indian-American Woman's Magical Journey From Broken To Beautiful”.    In this episode, Mytrae and I discuss: Seeking a way out in an abusive relationship How children are affected by abuse - signs to watch out for and how they may cope Knowing your rights as a human being The clash between individuality and family, culture and religion   Key Takeaways: Acknowledge when you discover that you're living a lie and letting your freedom be limited by other people - you have the capacity to break free and make it on your own, even if it doesn't feel like it.  It's important to explain sexual boundaries to your child; they might be getting abused but don't have the language to express to you what they're going through Own and proclaim your freedom, don't follow the train tracks of control and expectation, and build your own life. Your culture might tell you that God is angry at you or that you are bad, but there's never a moment that you're not loved by the Divine.   "Taking the baby steps when I couldn't chart out anything in my life was a way to crawl forward in my life… we're scared and daunted of what we have to do but take that one step… that's plenty. It's a way to build that muscle and move… you'll be stuck, unless you keep moving " —  Mytrae Meliana   Check out Mytrae's book, “Brown Skin Girl”, here: https://mytraemeliana.com/brown-skin-girl/     Connect with Mytrae Meliana: Twitter: https://twitter.com/mytraemeliana Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mytraemeliana/  Website: https://mytraemeliana.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mytraemeliana/    CONNECT WITH CYNTHIA: If you'd like to chat with Cynthia, sign up for your Personal Safety Preparedness Consultation with her today! Mytrae Meliana constantly struggled with her felt trapped and stifled in a 15year marriage and a soul-sucking job. Yet she felt bound to stay married because of her cultural beliefs she believes Indian women could marry only once. And that marriage was for life. She didn’t believe she had a right to her own happiness or her own choices. Or that she had gifts of any value to share with others. For years, she privately questioned her marriage, her family’s and culture’s messages about who she could be a woman and what was possible for her in life. Only when she was 40 when she read about emotional abuse, did he reach out to a South Asian agency to ask if it applied to Indian women, too. She became a holistic psychotherapist and began her healing journey to heal from trauma, oppression, persecution, and patriarchal programming. She sought out many healing modalities and began to find her true self and reclaim her truth, power, and body. She healed herself from Lyme Disease with holistic and spiritual treatments. You can find more Information about Mytrae Meliana  atwww.carlaandrews.com/yourinspiredjourney

Healing from trauma is complex. Especially when women are asking the wrong questions: “What is wrong with me?” Rather “what is wrong with the system?” Fear, guilt & shame messaging dominates the story. The question to ask: “If you are feeling fear, shame or guilt, ask, is this my story or is this a larger story I have been told by somebody else: family, culture, mainstream society or religion. Any story that tells us we are not good enough --- something is wrong with that story.” Sisterhood community is amazing for Creating truth. Mytrae awakens people to their Soul Purpose so they can create a life of joy, passion, and inspiration from the inside-out. She heals people from trauma and blocks from past lives that cause physical illness and emotional issues in this lifetime. Mytrae's spiritual path, which she's had for most of her life, has wound through Integral Yoga, Tantra, mysticism, and metaphysics. She was miraculously healed of Lyme Disease on her first visit to John of God, a spiritual healer in Brazil. Her own life journey is a testament to hope, possibility, and the power of love. An award-winning writer, she's the author of John of God: A Guide to Your Healing Journey with Spirit Doctors Beyond the Veil, and How I Healed From Lyme Disease: My Story, Lessons, And Steps To A Miracle. A pianist, she is blessed with the gift of channeling what her Guides call “The Language of Light.” What comes through her is celestial music from Father Creator and Mother Creator. This music contains healing keys which unlock and release disease, retrieve fragmented soul parts, activate chakras and DNA, and people's wisdom, love, strength, and Divinity. She teaches “Women and Tantra” in the Women's Spirituality program at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). In case you haven't heard about John of God, here is some information about him. João Teixeira de Faria, internationally known as John of God or João de Deus, is one of the most powerful channeling mediums and healers alive today. He began his spiritual career over 30 years ago and in this time has helped millions of people heal a variety of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual diseases. John of God is a humble man who is very clear about one thing: “I do not cure anybody. God heals, and in his infinite goodness permits the Entities to heal and console my brothers. I am merely an instrument in God's divine hands.” There are a variety of spiritual healing guides that have chosen to work with and through John of God. Together they treat the whole person and their whole life. The glue that binds humanity is Love and John of God and the entities are most concerned that you are whole and a reflection of this love in the world, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. He and the entities, through a constant and thorough cleaning of your energy field, and your own efforts, are able to elevate you in a phenomenal way to become who you truly are — radiant and a reflection of the divine on earth. Healing services are provided at The Casa De Dom Inacio in Brazil in person and through Crystal Healing Beds. Many make the trip to meet John of God and receive healing in person. For those who are unable to make the trip or those who are continuing their healing journey, John of God Crystal Healing Beds are available around the world through selected spiritual practitioners. He also offers distance healing. Some of the physical diseases that have been healed in others are AIDS, cancer, autoimmune disorders, arthritis, and injury from sports and accidents. Some of the emotional diseases that have been healed in others are addictions, depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Karmic patterning, family lineage, as well as relationships between families and loved ones can also be repaired and restored.
