Welcome to a brand new sub-set of show exclusively looking at the Italian Collection releases of 88 Films. 88 Films have, for the last 2 years or so, have been on a tear releasing a torrent of Italian genre classics in high definition. I have been purchasing them and it should be no surprise to anyone, I have left them pretty much unwatched (what can I say...I'm a compulsive collector). In order to watch the movies I buy, and of course create some quality content for you all Under the Stairs, I will be running through each of the movies on this bonus series between 1-2 movies a month depending on the TPUTS schedule. So strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride of alleged plagiarism, zombies, gore, rape, genital mutilation, sexism, revenge, gialli, cops and robbers, cannibalism, sci fi & more bush and titties than an annual subscription to Penthouse magazine. Disc One in the 88 Films Italian Collection is Aldo Lado's Video Nasty take on The Last House on the Left (on a train), Night Train Murders (1975) (aka L'ultimo treno della notte, Last Stop on the Night Train, The New House on The Left, Second House on The Left, Don't Ride on Late Night Trains,Late Night Trains, Last House Part II and Xmas Massacre). The grading follows the Netflix rating style of 1 = Hated It, 2 = Didn’t Like It, 3 = Liked It, 4 = Really Liked It & 5 = Loved It Night Train Murders: Duncan: 4 Up next on the Italian Collection Series is Disc 2 - Antonio Bido's The Bloodstained Shadow (1978). Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Welcome to the newest edition of Halloween Boutique Psychotronic Reviews – a podcast that reviews and critiques films released by boutique labels that have taken old and sometimes forgotten midnight movies and re-releases them in special editions where the quality of the picture is fully remastered, usually from onetime lost or privately owned negatives or prints. A wide variety of cult films are reviewed in this edition of the podcast including films that try to follow in the footsteps of more widely known movies like Last House on the Left and The Exorcist. Also, an interesting Blaxploitation film from a director more known for his horror thrillers. Another is by a one time director that has lived a very interesting life. And another that is so surreal, the film can be consider “weird cinema” even more so than arthouse. This edition co-host Philip of the Dark Discussions Podcast critiques five films: Arrow’s newly released Mexican horror film, We Are the Flesh; Code Red’s remastering of director Lee Frost’s Black Gestapo; Blue Underground’s blu-ray release of the 1975 Italian horror film, Night Train Murders; Severin’s release of the Italian possession film, Malabimba the Malicious Whore; and both versions of Don’t Answer the Phone (released early 2017 by Vinegar Syndrome and prior by Scorpion Releasing). It took almost 9 years but we did it!!! Wh finish off the December Nasties this year and out them to rest for good! We talk a little bit about Rogue One and review Night Train Murders and Xtro.
Lee, Daniel and Paul kick off a month-long horror stretch for October with two Italian selections. First off it's the rape-revenge entry "Night Train Murders" (1975), and then they jump ahead nineteen years to the surreal zombie-comedy "Cemetery Man" (1994). Lee butchers Italian names (as usual), but this time the cast list for "Cemetery Man" may have broken him. Also covered: listener comments and what the hosts have watched as of late. "Night Train Murders" IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073836/combined "Cemetery Man" IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109592/combined Featured music: "A Flower's All You Need" by Demis Roussos & Ennio Morricone.
The original 2 hour cut of the Sylvester Stallone starrer Cobra was exceedingly violent and bleak, so much so that the MPAA insisted the film be cut to avoid an X rating. Initially resistant, Stallone and director/producer George P. Cosmatos gave in as much to avoid the dreaded rating as to challenge the highly tracking Tom Cruise movie Top Gun at the box office. Stallone had recent hits Rambo:First Blood Part II and Rocky 4 and was under pressure to produce another hit. The heavily edited final version of Cobra did have a huge opening weekend and made money for Warner Bros. but wasn't the hit those previous films were. Dan and Vicky give us their thoughts on this trash-tastic entry in 1980's big budget sleaze. They have a few choice words for Sylvester Stallone and his script. They also recount some of their recently seen including the new Blair Witch, Bridget Jones' Baby, Dario Argento's Dracula and Mother of Tears, a pair of giallo classics Night Train Murders and Short Night of Glass Dolls, the Polish horror oddity Possession and the TV series' Atlanta and Better Things. They get serious a little when they talk about the recent spate of police violence and Dan has a bone to pick with the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Add in some great 1986 tunes and Hot Date 37, Cobra, strikes hard and fast.
It’s a Last House On The Left rip-off but this Italian horror has much to recommend it.
