Thanks for tuning into the Scale Your Small Business Podcast with your host, Jillian Flodstrom. On this week's episode, we're discussing organization charts. Jillian is here to share some tips on why organization charts are important for your business, even if it's just you by yourself or if you have a small team.    Every business requires a clear structure for their company, and an organization chart can really help with that. An organization chart can make your team understand the hierarchy of your organization and what channels to go through when they're working on a project. A visual representation of the structure can help your employees understand their relationship with other groups within the company and how they can contribute over all.    By clearly communicating how each group of staff members relates to each other, the organization can experience greater growth by avoiding unnecessary conflicts and confusion. An organization chart can also help assess employees workloads. This can clearly illustrate where the loop ends, where the buck stops, based on every person that's in your organization on your org chart.   Identifying opportunities for collaboration is a massive benefit of having an org chart. Which employees work in which departments, which might be good a resource for another employee, can be huge when determining where in an organization, especially if you have a large one, where people should go to find other people to collaborate with.    In the same way, an org chart can show you holes in the structure of your organization. It can point to bottlenecks where things are getting slowed down. Important functions that no one is accountable for are immediately apparent in an organizational chart.   Finally, it's always fun (and surprisingly useful) to plan out the future of your business. You can visualize how you want to look after you've grown.    So, don't discount an organization chart just because you might have a smaller business, you might be by yourself. Give yourself the ability to dream about what your organization could become and you never know, those future spots on the organization chart just might be filled with awesome people.   Key Takeaways   Every business requires a clear structure for their company, and an organization chart can really help with that.  An organization chart can make your team understand the hierarchy of your organization and what channels to go through when they're working on a project. Identifying opportunities for collaboration is a massive benefit of having an org chart. An org chart can show you holes in the structure of your organization. Manuel also shared about the Team API concept as well the 3 core interaction modes, which inform how teams should interact with each other in order to improve the overall flow within the business. Howard Partridge is an internationally recognized business coach, bestselling author, and experienced business owner. Originally from Mobile, AL where he grew up on welfare with six siblings, Howard shares the principles and components behind phenomenal business performance. Inspiration Behind New Book Howard's new book “F.T.I.: Failure to Implement” is based on the idea that this is the single thing keeping you from accomplishing your goals. In the book, he highlights the 10 principles for life and business that lead to phenomenal performance. Potential: understanding your potential is key. If you have a bad self-image, you won't perform well. YOU are the phenomenal product.Picture: you need a compelling vision to move you and compel you to perform. This is how you create your vision.Purpose: understand why you are in business. What would your customers miss out on if your company didn't exist?People: having the right people around you influences and inspires your outcomes, from family and coaches to team members and clients.Planning: a proper focused plan will help you get where you want to go. Give this process time. Dream and think about what steps you need to take to reach your goals, then build a plan.Priority: living by priority means focusing on what is important right now. This requires discipline and focus.Process: implementing simple processes, checklists, and systems will help your team stay on track and know what their job is.Productivity: take action. Once you have your priorities straight, take the time each day to kick the ball down the field. It's not easy, but it is simple. Progress: keeping track of your progress is important for staying motivated. Patience: exercising great patience will increase your performance. You can't be in a hurry. Let things develop, let processes start working, and let people start growing. Howard shares how instrumental Zig Ziglar, one of his mentors, has been in his life and business. He was thrilled to be invited to join Ziglar's coaching team, and is passionate about sharing what he has learned to help guide other small business owners. One of his favorite stories of Zig's is the water pump anecdote. It illustrates how implementing the right systems and processes in your organization will build the momentum that leads to success. “And that's what getting your business systemized is really all about… if you will practice these and give them time to work, pump like crazy… and keep on pumping at the right pump and get that flow… keep it in play so that you just have a constant steady growth of clients, play growth, profit, production.” Components for Establishing a System Howard's advice for establishing systems in your business is focused on two important layers. MVP: define your mission, vision, values, and purpose.Organization Chart: build systems and processes to make these five parts of your business run smoothly: LeadershipMarketingSalesOperations/ServiceAdministration/Tracking Results Howard shares the success story of John Torres, President and CEO of Entrusted, a water, mold, and fire restoration company serving South Florida and Texas. John implemented these processes, and watched his company take off. “John Torres, because he simply learned the systems and implemented the systems, went from zero to $20 million a year. That guy makes so much money it's incredible… His leaders are… young people who are hungry and want to make their mark.”

“You’re a Great Leader.” When God created you, He created great leadership within you. But leadership is not a position, or pedestal, or platform. It’s not a title or a label in an Organization Chart or a corner office. Leadership has only one definition, and it’s boring: Leadership is an influence. By your words, actions, presence, lifestyle, attitude, disposition, and personality, you impact your world. Your life affects your classmates, officemates, teammates, gym mates, flatmates, and soulmates. You’ll awaken the Great Leader within you. And when you raise the quality of your leadership, you raise the quality of your life…And the quality of the people around you.

Stop for a moment. Think about your day. Are you doing work that should be delegated to your employees or contract workers? Small Business owner Robert is feeling overwhelmed and looking for tips to save time and increase his profits at the end of each month. Would you be surprised to hear that your Small Business Show co-hosts have experienced this situation a few times? Dave and Shannon offer Robert some advice about delegating and keeping the phrase "Who is going to do this for me?" in his thoughts as he moves from working IN the business each day to working ON the business to become the manage and leader his company needs. Additional tips include saying no more often, raising your prices to reach an equilibrium between revenue and profit that works for you and your business and developing an Organization Chart to really see who's doing what each day. We then jump into a question about the impact of an impending increase of the minimum wage to $15 on Gail's local Ice Cream business.
